You have to be crazy to actually like 06 let-alone love it. It does everything a game shouldn't do, and in fact I had trouble identifying 06 as a Sonic game every character is turned unlikeable with no one liners and character expression.
I remember getting Sonic 2006 back in the day. I was 13 at the time, and i knew how shit it was, so i went down to the store and said "this game doesn't work" - he plugged it in the 360 at the store and said "what do you mean, it works just fine?" - i said "no it turns on i know, but just wait" - and like 15 min into the game, it started bugging out and he fell through the world. Back then patching wasn't really something console games were exposed to, so i got my money back and low and behold, years after i discover the collective hatred towards the game. Nice.

yeah the final boss was A MESS. But honestly, I liked all of the levels (yes all of them, even the sonic 06 one-you have to remember that the concept for the level was cool, it was just executed badly). Overall, I liked Sonic Generations.
To all you people who are undoubtedly saying that Sonic has a horrible fanbase, allow me to offer a counterpoint. While Sonic has an obnoxious vocal minority, the majority of Sonic fans are rather patient and level headed considering how often Sega fucked up in the past and indeed recently (Sonic Boom). Not only that, but there are countless well put together fangames and mods that pay much more respect and have a much better understanding of the source materials true potential than a lot of stuff Sega has produced. To me, this suggests a fanbase full of people who can truly appreciate the good aspects of the series while taking into account the bad.

I stand by my assertion 2006 was Sonic's best year. It has the only good Sonic game (Sonic Riders) and the best game to make videos/content about (06).
I just wanted the combat of nighttime sections in other games. I loved the complexity of it but I think the biggest problem with Unleashed was the medal collecting on the PS3 version. The PS2 version sucked looking back, it felt really stiff despite this game being on the same console as Katamari and GTA. What other games have the same complexity of the amount of moves in Unleashed that is in other games?
2:18 is one of the most glorious and resonant things Yahtzee has ever said, even if he was slightly off. Yes it _is_ actually possible for someone to like Sonic 2006, they're not wrong about _that_ (people can like ANYTHING, even inserting live mice up their asshole or Tyler Perry movies), they're just wrong if they try to claim the game is in any way GOOD. "I know it's your opinion, but your opinion is just _wrong!"_ In today's entitlement culture this is the thing people just can't and won't understand or accept- everyone is entitled to HAVE their own opinion, but that doesn't make them _right._ Sometimes a person's opinion is just stupid, and they like something not because it's _good,_ but because they're a moron with appalling taste and absolutely no standards. There's only 3.5 characters worth anything in the entire franchise. Sonic (as the main guy), Tails (as the sidekick, also he can fly), Eggbotnik or whatever he's going by (as the goal; can't have a hero without a villain), and the upper half of Rouge.
If you're gonna torture yourself with a Sonic game then you mind as well go all or nothing, either not playing it at all, or playing with all the characters at once is some sort of nostalgia furry orgy.

From my understanding, there are two ways methods of review something. Take yourself out of it completely and only comment on what you feel your audience would respond to or take your audience out of it completely and only respond with what affected you. Both of these methods are considered valid methods. Zero "Yahtzee" Punctuation is choosing to use the latter method. I find his style incredibly entertaining and his reviews well made even (and especially) when I disagree with him.
For me... Sonic Generations was the first good Sonic game in a long time (don't have a Wii so I never played Colors) Why? I don't mind the other characters nearly as much when I don't have to PLAY as them. Nothing is worse than piloting a walking mech that's as slow as turtle taking a leisurely stroll with his best friend the snail... in a SONIC game. But now we're still playing only as Sonic which is great. As for the inclusion of a Sonic '06 level... well...yeahhh.. this time however, we see how fun it WOULD have been if they kept the current 3D Sonic model of gameplay and even the 2D classic model of gameplay. It's almost like "this is what that steaming pile of hedgehog shit SHOULD have been!" It even had a nice shoutout to the name "Robotnik" (which unfortunately got dampened when Robotnik claims that "no one calls him that anymore" and that he's "Eggman." Fuck you, Robotnik, I still call you that, you fast bastard. But all in all, solid game and the nostalgia was great. It made the classic versions of levels start out similarly and then gave them completely different layouts so that was cool. Plus it was fun to play all new levels from more modern Sonic games but made better by making them 2D and awesome (like City Escape for example)

I can understand that, playing the very first Sonic the Hedgehog today is a bit of a trauma for most gamers of today [and please, while you read that try to feel the sense of smug superiority I'm feeling while writing "gamers of today" for not being in that category], they had the wierd concept that just 'cause you go bloody fast and have the reflexes of a normal human being [again, smug superiority], that does not stop you from seeing the pits and enemies coming at you as fast as next month taxes. I'm pretty sure most Sonic fans under the age of 20 would agree with you. The main reason you hear critics whine about how much better classic Sonic is than modern Sonic is purely based on nostalgia. They're likely older and grew up with the Genesis games so of course they'd prefer classic over modern. I'm 19 and the first Sonic game I ever played was Sonic Adventure, so naturally I prefer modern Sonic gameplay over classic. That's not to say I can't appreciate classic Sonic gameplay. If I were SEGA, I would just do what Nintendo does with Mario. Keep the 3D games strictly 3D and release strictly 2D games along side them for the older fans who like simpler gameplay. A good example would be New Super Mario Bros. Wii and Super Mario Galaxy. A good 2D game and a good 3D game, both released on the same console. SEGA needs to get it through their head that they don't have to choose one or the other, and that they shouldn't cram both into every game that comes along. If you wanna make a great 2D game, go all out and make it fully 2D like Sonic Rush. And if you wanna make a great 3D game, go all out and make it fully 3D like Sonic Adventure.
I really appreciate Sonic '06's existence, if even just for the fact it provides something easy to laugh at and was the basis for the single best Game Grumps playthrough of all time.
I love games with a strong story. Sonic Generations does not have that, nor strong characters. However, with this game, I was okay with that. Why? Because it went back to doing what it did best, and that is making fast paced and fun levels. I truly enjoyed Generations, and could not care for the story and saw it for what it is - basically a plot device to send you to the next level. The NPC's are revolting are are really only there for the younger players. Some of the Modern Sonic levels do suffer from crappy camera syndrome, but other than that, it is solid game. And Sonic & All Star Racing Transformed is rocking amazingness. I find it far superior to Mario Cart, and the Change between vehicle types really adds to the dynamics of the levels. The game is just so much fun.
yeah, when I first heard about the wisps in sonic colors my initial reaction was that it would have been a great chance to bring back Hyper Sonic, something along the lines of the wisps supercharge the chaos emeralds turning them into super emeralds (that's what they're called right?) turning Super Sonic into Hyper Sonic, but alas no such creative twists like that took place.
To whoever that is getting their panties in a bunch because of what Yahtzee said, you shouldn't really be like this because the reviews are usually not meant to be taken seriously, this was made basically for pointless comedic humor. There should be no flame wars in the comment section, but that's probably the reason how most of the fanbase I'm in is so annoying. Therefore here's my review, or my factual and opinionated understanding on the game in a way. (Mostly Factual part) To be fair, the only things wrong with the game were the presenting of the story, some level design problems, and the final boss. The story was very simple, and some parts seemed rushed, such as the time creature appearing at random, and going away in just a few seconds. There was also a lack of making references here and there. For example, Modern Sonic and Modern Tails were making inputs on Green Hill and Chemical Plant. This was the only time the 2 did that. Imagine if they talked about Tails racing Eggman through Radical Highway, or where Sonic and Tails had no clue where or what Crisis City was because the game never was canon. Yahtzee did point out that there were level design problems, but there were very few, especially going after Red Rings. You couldn't go back into the level to grab a red ring, you could only finish the level, quit and reload the level, or restart and lose a life. Most level design problems usually happened with Classic Sonic with me, usually not having the height to make jumps on platforming areas. The final boss was TERRIBLE, control was bad and collecting rings was difficult, Yahtzee explained the final boss easily. Excluding the major reasons it was bad, the game was really good. Critics were giving good ratings, and long time Sonic gamers were in a void of nostalgia. It wouldn't be well attracted by people who play for the story or lack in platforming games. Critics give it a good rating, and it doesn't attract to all audiences. But even so, it ended out as a great game in the franchise and pulled Sonic out of the Dark Ages like Sonic Colors.(My opinion on the game) This game had incredible level design for the most part, the music remixed was excellent, I loved the 2 gameplays given, and I will waste hours speed running levels and bosses. I would give this an 8 or 9/10. I didn't really care on the story because the gameplay made up for it. I would recommend the game to anyone who is or wants to be a fan of Sonic or platformers.
These reviews certainly are meant to be taken seriously. He has said in one of his Let's Drown Outs that he may exaggerate a bit in his reviews for comedic purposes, but that he would never outright lie and claim a game is awful when it actually wasn't.
Honestly I didn't mind Sonic 06 but what bugs me is its existance... and i mean the plot should not exist in the 1st place or the timeline cause in the end, the TRUE END, the game erases it whole plot not have never even happen so why the hell is it in the timeline in this game??

I spent half the game enjoying the modern updates to the gameplay and the other half trying not to snap my controller in two from the utterly shit old controls.
I enjoyed Sonic Adventure 2 Battle. It was one of the first games I ever played and I'd gladly play through it again. It doesn't occupy a seat in my top 10, not even my top 50 in fact, but I enjoyed the gameplay, story, and a few of the boss battles. Cue Flame-war
Having not played a Sonic game since Shadow the Hedgehog, I actually thought Sonic Generations was good. Not amazing, but definitely better than decent. Could the plot be better? Yeah. Had a good idea going for it though, but that cutscene before the final boss; all of Sonic's friends going, "You can do it Sonic!" So painfully lame to watch, childish (Well ok it's a game targeted for a younger audience, so joke's on me), and what is this, the Land Before Time?! Get yo asses down here and fuckin fight ya pussies. In the end, the story was mediocre. Regardless, the level designs were actually pretty good... I didn't like the 2D mixed with 3D for modern Sonic, completely destroyed the flow of gameplay for me. I also thought Gamplay itself wasn't bad either. Last Sonic game I played that actually was as fast as this game was Adventure 2. The targeting system (which was introduced in Unleashed I think... or Sonic 4... I'm not an expert.) was something that was desperately needed. I can't recall how many times in Adventure 2 or Heroes I threw my controller in rage because Sonic's homing attack decided to miss sending me off the nearby cliff. Shadow the Hedgehog also had that same problem, but the guns (believe or not) were a nice addition because they were a perfect substitute; I could jump over there and bonk him on the head several times hoping the game doesn't glitch and send me flying off the cliff, or I can stay here and shoot him. I'm probably gonna get a lot of flak for saying guns in a Sonic game was a decent idea, but whatevs. In the end, I give Generations a 7/10. "Meh" story; however, the graphics were nice, the sound was good, the gameplay was solid, the levels were fun and often tempt me to throw the game back in sometimes just to play them, and it was fast. Sonic Team actually polished out an above decent Sonic game and they show potential that they could actually make Sonic a decent game series again (and maybe throw back in Chao raising... as much as I hate to say it, that was sadly one of my favorite parts about Adventure 2)... or they can snort some more Cocain and turn Sonic into a Manhog surrounded by even more annoying characters...

I wonder if there actually are any sonic fans who liked sonic 06? It came out when I was 8 and was really hyped for it but couldn't play it as it wasn't on PC if I remember right so I never played it but it sounds like I dodged a bullet.
I like the newer sonic games, actually. I think the homing attack and the branching pathways were fun to play. And despite the world's contempt for sonic 06, I rather enjoyed the level, if anything it's because it was playable. My least favorite part of the game was the 2d segments with the 3d sonic. It totally threw me out of the game I was just playing and made me remember how the original sonic went except with none of the helpfulness that 2d sonic's controls had.
I enjoyed 06. Did I love it? No but I don't hate it. It kinda remind me of sonic adventure except better looking, a worse story and worse voice acting (and that is saying something). Coarse I also liked shadow the hedgehog....maybe it was because it was the only game I played that did multiple endings right. Each choice you do in the game sends you to a different ending instead of the last two choices giving you the same ending but whether or not the protagonist broods.
I love Shadow The Hedgehog. Frankly, I couldn't tell you exactly why (aside from the alternate endings) but I friggen love it. I feel like 3d sonic needs more work though, more like generations and less like Unleashed.

I also hate it when people bash on the story of the newer sonic games when really no sonic games were fucking hamlet when you think about it but latelyit has been lacking. The writers don't care anymore and a few have gone on the record to tell fans "just let him die." coarse who knows Doctor Who survived decades of being god awful and is now one of the most popular sci-fi shows out there. So who knows maybe 20 years from now Sonic will come out with a game that is actually great but I will be keeping my money in my wallet till that happens coarse I'm also waiting for mario to do the same.
IMHO, sonic adventure 2 battle is my favorite sonic game, i didn't have a genesis growing up, so i never got to play sonic in his 2d glory, but ever since adventure 2, it feels like none of them have worked quite right. unleashed was pretty good with the sonic levels, except the average one was around 10 minutes long and if you got hit once you might as well restart. I miss getting the rainbow colored "PERFECT" for chaining 10 enemies together and chucking omochao at robots and watching them explode. I guess to put it in a nutshell, i feel adventure 2 has style, where as most of the other ones either hand you most of it with automatic chains or "simply press this button" scenes
Sonic Heroes is my favorite, I admit there are couple of flaws with the game, like the slippery controls and cringing voice acting "look at all those Eggman robots" but I really like its unique gameplay and awesome level design well except Casino Park and Hang Castle fuck those levels.

Here's a fun fact that's kind of related to the topic at hand. In the Japanese version of Sonic X, there's one scene where Eggman and Rouge and talking about the latest scheme, and out of nowhere Eggman tells Rouge that her breasts are huge. That's as good and explanation for it as I can give, although I'm not sure why Eggman would program that same lust for Rouge into his robots. Then again, I'm not an evil scientist. As far as you know.
There are a few things I agree with you on. Like the 2d parts in the modern stages were annoying and pointless, the plot is non existent, and the final boss fight is bullshit.
I think all Sonic games, including Sonic 2006, were all pretty good. They all have their flaws and strengths, but they are awesome in their own way IMO.

+Tavi Dapena late rep, but Sonic is originally all 2D platform made for speedrunning. You can get through some levels in record speed, which is kind of the thing Sonic goes for. In 3D Sonic games, the camera angle and general level design makes that kind of thing almost impossible, since you have to slow down and do stupid shit to get through stuff. I like SA and SA2B etc etc, but 3D platforming and speed do not go well together.
+Some Guy If I think it over, that might not be entirely true...if a game were designed around that concept, it could work. Not a very interesting mechanic, but playable if well adapted to the game. But SEGA kept the idea of speeding through a level whilst changing the mechanics needed to complete levels. Meaning it's no longer adapted to the mechanics Sonic uses, i.e. it's like playing a racing game with candy crush mechanics. SA, SA2 and SA2B are good because there are other characters that aren't build for speed, but some for flight, some strengh and some for drilling/gliding. For example, Sonic sticks out in Pumpkin Hill, but it's perfect for Knuckles, Rouge and Tikal.
+Possibly Dell Honne actually speed running with generations is very possible and popular to do. I can see with sa2, but colors and generations are probably easier to speed run than the Genesis games. I have way less trouble with them.
I think Knuckles deserves a pass since he was brought in when the games were good, but he was cutting it close. Not clue who Rouge was for, I don't remember furries being the scourge on humanity that they are now. Maybe she helped bring about the furries. Then she deserves the death penalty.

Unless I'm sitting down in front of my computer (in which case adjusting the volume for each intro is a non-issue), his voice is too quiet compared to the intro music for me to hear what he's saying. There's only one thing that I don't agree with him on. Sonic '06 wasn't bad. It was wonderful until you realize that the music is the only thing trying to keep anything plausible in that game. So the game isn't bad. It's terrible with that one feature everyone forgot about. Like how Resident Evil was good with it's own genre of being rather focused in solving puzzles and never knowing what's behind the door but then it lost that one thing in other games when it became an FPS and forgot what charm it had before. Sonic never really lost it's ability to have good music even with Sonic '06. But the gameplay... early alphas of other games are laughing at it.

I remember getting Sonic 2006 back in the day. I was 13 at the time, and i knew how shit it was, so i went down to the store and said "this game doesn't work" - he plugged it in the 360 at the store and said "what do you mean, it works just fine?" - i said "no it turns on i know, but just wait" - and like 15 min into the game, it started bugging out and he fell through the world. Back then patching wasn't really something console games were exposed to, so i got my money back and low and behold, years after i discover the collective hatred towards the game. Nice.

It's not just you. The jump button has some kind of input lag, especialy in the modern soinc 2d segments.
Sonic does a split second animation before the actual jump takes place (at least in the Modern levels), and I think that's probably what causes it.

yeah the final boss was A MESS. But honestly, I liked all of the levels (yes all of them, even the sonic 06 one-you have to remember that the concept for the level was cool, it was just executed badly). Overall, I liked Sonic Generations.
To all you people who are undoubtedly saying that Sonic has a horrible fanbase, allow me to offer a counterpoint. While Sonic has an obnoxious vocal minority, the majority of Sonic fans are rather patient and level headed considering how often Sega fucked up in the past and indeed recently (Sonic Boom). Not only that, but there are countless well put together fangames and mods that pay much more respect and have a much better understanding of the source materials true potential than a lot of stuff Sega has produced. To me, this suggests a fanbase full of people who can truly appreciate the good aspects of the series while taking into account the bad.

I just wanted the combat of nighttime sections in other games. I loved the complexity of it but I think the biggest problem with Unleashed was the medal collecting on the PS3 version. The PS2 version sucked looking back, it felt really stiff despite this game being on the same console as Katamari and GTA. What other games have the same complexity of the amount of moves in Unleashed that is in other games?

There's only 3.5 characters worth anything in the entire franchise. Sonic (as the main guy), Tails (as the sidekick, also he can fly), Eggbotnik or whatever he's going by (as the goal; can't have a hero without a villain), and the upper half of Rouge.
If you're gonna torture yourself with a Sonic game then you mind as well go all or nothing, either not playing it at all, or playing with all the characters at once is some sort of nostalgia furry orgy.

From my understanding, there are two ways methods of review something. Take yourself out of it completely and only comment on what you feel your audience would respond to or take your audience out of it completely and only respond with what affected you. Both of these methods are considered valid methods. Zero "Yahtzee" Punctuation is choosing to use the latter method. I find his style incredibly entertaining and his reviews well made even (and especially) when I disagree with him.

For me... Sonic Generations was the first good Sonic game in a long time (don't have a Wii so I never played Colors)
Why? I don't mind the other characters nearly as much when I don't have to PLAY as them. Nothing is worse than piloting a walking mech that's as slow as turtle taking a leisurely stroll with his best friend the snail... in a SONIC game.
But now we're still playing only as Sonic which is great. As for the inclusion of a Sonic '06 level... well...yeahhh.. this time however, we see how fun it WOULD have been if they kept the current 3D Sonic model of gameplay and even the 2D classic model of gameplay. It's almost like "this is what that steaming pile of hedgehog shit SHOULD have been!"
It even had a nice shoutout to the name "Robotnik" (which unfortunately got dampened when Robotnik claims that "no one calls him that anymore" and that he's "Eggman." Fuck you, Robotnik, I still call you that, you fast bastard.
But all in all, solid game and the nostalgia was great. It made the classic versions of levels start out similarly and then gave them completely different layouts so that was cool. Plus it was fun to play all new levels from more modern Sonic games but made better by making them 2D and awesome (like City Escape for example)

I'm pretty sure most Sonic fans under the age of 20 would agree with you. The main reason you hear critics whine about how much better classic Sonic is than modern Sonic is purely based on nostalgia. They're likely older and grew up with the Genesis games so of course they'd prefer classic over modern. I'm 19 and the first Sonic game I ever played was Sonic Adventure, so naturally I prefer modern Sonic gameplay over classic. That's not to say I can't appreciate classic Sonic gameplay. If I were SEGA, I would just do what Nintendo does with Mario. Keep the 3D games strictly 3D and release strictly 2D games along side them for the older fans who like simpler gameplay. A good example would be New Super Mario Bros. Wii and Super Mario Galaxy. A good 2D game and a good 3D game, both released on the same console. SEGA needs to get it through their head that they don't have to choose one or the other, and that they shouldn't cram both into every game that comes along. If you wanna make a great 2D game, go all out and make it fully 2D like Sonic Rush. And if you wanna make a great 3D game, go all out and make it fully 3D like Sonic Adventure.
I really appreciate Sonic '06's existence, if even just for the fact it provides something easy to laugh at and was the basis for the single best Game Grumps playthrough of all time.
I love games with a strong story. Sonic Generations does not have that, nor strong characters. However, with this game, I was okay with that. Why? Because it went back to doing what it did best, and that is making fast paced and fun levels. I truly enjoyed Generations, and could not care for the story and saw it for what it is - basically a plot device to send you to the next level. The NPC's are revolting are are really only there for the younger players. Some of the Modern Sonic levels do suffer from crappy camera syndrome, but other than that, it is solid game.
And Sonic & All Star Racing Transformed is rocking amazingness. I find it far superior to Mario Cart, and the Change between vehicle types really adds to the dynamics of the levels. The game is just so much fun.
yeah, when I first heard about the wisps in sonic colors my initial reaction was that it would have been a great chance to bring back Hyper Sonic, something along the lines of the wisps supercharge the chaos emeralds turning them into super emeralds (that's what they're called right?) turning Super Sonic into Hyper Sonic, but alas no such creative twists like that took place.

To whoever that is getting their panties in a bunch because of what Yahtzee said, you shouldn't really be like this because the reviews are usually not meant to be taken seriously, this was made basically for pointless comedic humor. There should be no flame wars in the comment section, but that's probably the reason how most of the fanbase I'm in is so annoying. Therefore here's my review, or my factual and opinionated understanding on the game in a way. (Mostly Factual part) To be fair, the only things wrong with the game were the presenting of the story, some level design problems, and the final boss. The story was very simple, and some parts seemed rushed, such as the time creature appearing at random, and going away in just a few seconds. There was also a lack of making references here and there. For example, Modern Sonic and Modern Tails were making inputs on Green Hill and Chemical Plant. This was the only time the 2 did that. Imagine if they talked about Tails racing Eggman through Radical Highway, or where Sonic and Tails had no clue where or what Crisis City was because the game never was canon. Yahtzee did point out that there were level design problems, but there were very few, especially going after Red Rings. You couldn't go back into the level to grab a red ring, you could only finish the level, quit and reload the level, or restart and lose a life. Most level design problems usually happened with Classic Sonic with me, usually not having the height to make jumps on platforming areas. The final boss was TERRIBLE, control was bad and collecting rings was difficult, Yahtzee explained the final boss easily. Excluding the major reasons it was bad, the game was really good. Critics were giving good ratings, and long time Sonic gamers were in a void of nostalgia. It wouldn't be well attracted by people who play for the story or lack in platforming games. Critics give it a good rating, and it doesn't attract to all audiences. But even so, it ended out as a great game in the franchise and pulled Sonic out of the Dark Ages like Sonic Colors.(My opinion on the game) This game had incredible level design for the most part, the music remixed was excellent, I loved the 2 gameplays given, and I will waste hours speed running levels and bosses. I would give this an 8 or 9/10. I didn't really care on the story because the gameplay made up for it. I would recommend the game to anyone who is or wants to be a fan of Sonic or platformers.
These reviews certainly are meant to be taken seriously. He has said in one of his Let's Drown Outs that he may exaggerate a bit in his reviews for comedic purposes, but that he would never outright lie and claim a game is awful when it actually wasn't.

I enjoyed Sonic Adventure 2 Battle. It was one of the first games I ever played and I'd gladly play through it again. It doesn't occupy a seat in my top 10, not even my top 50 in fact, but I enjoyed the gameplay, story, and a few of the boss battles.

Having not played a Sonic game since Shadow the Hedgehog, I actually thought Sonic Generations was good. Not amazing, but definitely better than decent. Could the plot be better? Yeah. Had a good idea going for it though, but that cutscene before the final boss; all of Sonic's friends going, "You can do it Sonic!" So painfully lame to watch, childish (Well ok it's a game targeted for a younger audience, so joke's on me), and what is this, the Land Before Time?! Get yo asses down here and fuckin fight ya pussies. In the end, the story was mediocre.
Regardless, the level designs were actually pretty good... I didn't like the 2D mixed with 3D for modern Sonic, completely destroyed the flow of gameplay for me. I also thought Gamplay itself wasn't bad either. Last Sonic game I played that actually was as fast as this game was Adventure 2. The targeting system (which was introduced in Unleashed I think... or Sonic 4... I'm not an expert.) was something that was desperately needed. I can't recall how many times in Adventure 2 or Heroes I threw my controller in rage because Sonic's homing attack decided to miss sending me off the nearby cliff. Shadow the Hedgehog also had that same problem, but the guns (believe or not) were a nice addition because they were a perfect substitute; I could jump over there and bonk him on the head several times hoping the game doesn't glitch and send me flying off the cliff, or I can stay here and shoot him. I'm probably gonna get a lot of flak for saying guns in a Sonic game was a decent idea, but whatevs.
In the end, I give Generations a 7/10. "Meh" story; however, the graphics were nice, the sound was good, the gameplay was solid, the levels were fun and often tempt me to throw the game back in sometimes just to play them, and it was fast. Sonic Team actually polished out an above decent Sonic game and they show potential that they could actually make Sonic a decent game series again (and maybe throw back in Chao raising... as much as I hate to say it, that was sadly one of my favorite parts about Adventure 2)... or they can snort some more Cocain and turn Sonic into a Manhog surrounded by even more annoying characters...

I actually really like this game....
I like the newer sonic games, actually. I think the homing attack and the branching pathways were fun to play. And despite the world's contempt for sonic 06, I rather enjoyed the level, if anything it's because it was playable. My least favorite part of the game was the 2d segments with the 3d sonic. It totally threw me out of the game I was just playing and made me remember how the original sonic went except with none of the helpfulness that 2d sonic's controls had.
I enjoyed 06. Did I love it? No but I don't hate it. It kinda remind me of sonic adventure except better looking, a worse story and worse voice acting (and that is saying something). Coarse I also liked shadow the hedgehog....maybe it was because it was the only game I played that did multiple endings right. Each choice you do in the game sends you to a different ending instead of the last two choices giving you the same ending but whether or not the protagonist broods.
I love Shadow The Hedgehog. Frankly, I couldn't tell you exactly why (aside from the alternate endings) but I friggen love it. I feel like 3d sonic needs more work though, more like generations and less like Unleashed.

I also hate it when people bash on the story of the newer sonic games when really no sonic games were fucking hamlet when you think about it but latelyit has been lacking. The writers don't care anymore and a few have gone on the record to tell fans "just let him die." coarse who knows Doctor Who survived decades of being god awful and is now one of the most popular sci-fi shows out there. So who knows maybe 20 years from now Sonic will come out with a game that is actually great but I will be keeping my money in my wallet till that happens coarse I'm also waiting for mario to do the same.
IMHO, sonic adventure 2 battle is my favorite sonic game, i didn't have a genesis growing up, so i never got to play sonic in his 2d glory, but ever since adventure 2, it feels like none of them have worked quite right. unleashed was pretty good with the sonic levels, except the average one was around 10 minutes long and if you got hit once you might as well restart. I miss getting the rainbow colored "PERFECT" for chaining 10 enemies together and chucking omochao at robots and watching them explode. I guess to put it in a nutshell, i feel adventure 2 has style, where as most of the other ones either hand you most of it with automatic chains or "simply press this button" scenes
Sonic Heroes is my favorite, I admit there are couple of flaws with the game, like the slippery controls and cringing voice acting "look at all those Eggman robots" but I really like its unique gameplay and awesome level design well except Casino Park and Hang Castle fuck those levels.

Here's a fun fact that's kind of related to the topic at hand. In the Japanese version of Sonic X, there's one scene where Eggman and Rouge and talking about the latest scheme, and out of nowhere Eggman tells Rouge that her breasts are huge. That's as good and explanation for it as I can give, although I'm not sure why Eggman would program that same lust for Rouge into his robots. Then again, I'm not an evil scientist. As far as you know.

+Tavi Dapena late rep, but Sonic is originally all 2D platform made for speedrunning. You can get through some levels in record speed, which is kind of the thing Sonic goes for. In 3D Sonic games, the camera angle and general level design makes that kind of thing almost impossible, since you have to slow down and do stupid shit to get through stuff.
I like SA and SA2B etc etc, but 3D platforming and speed do not go well together.

+Some Guy If I think it over, that might not be entirely true...if a game were designed around that concept, it could work. Not a very interesting mechanic, but playable if well adapted to the game.
But SEGA kept the idea of speeding through a level whilst changing the mechanics needed to complete levels. Meaning it's no longer adapted to the mechanics Sonic uses, i.e. it's like playing a racing game with candy crush mechanics.
SA, SA2 and SA2B are good because there are other characters that aren't build for speed, but some for flight, some strengh and some for drilling/gliding. For example, Sonic sticks out in Pumpkin Hill, but it's perfect for Knuckles, Rouge and Tikal.
+Possibly Dell Honne actually speed running with generations is very possible and popular to do. I can see with sa2, but colors and generations are probably easier to speed run than the Genesis games. I have way less trouble with them.

I think Knuckles deserves a pass since he was brought in when the games were good, but he was cutting it close. Not clue who Rouge was for, I don't remember furries being the scourge on humanity that they are now. Maybe she helped bring about the furries. Then she deserves the death penalty.

Sonic 2006 at its core is sh*t, I completely agree with you, however the amounts of glitches and stupidly insane things you can because the developers ruled it out before realising you could jump infinitely and break the game is really fun, guess I just love games that are broken.

You are far too melodramatic. Don't have the volume up so high then. There should be a balance where the intro and his voice can both be heard, without discomfort. Many people have found it, you should too.

I agree that there *should* be a balance, but there isn't. Unless I'm sitting down in front of my computer (in which case adjusting the volume for each intro is a non-issue), his voice is too quiet compared to the intro music for me to hear what he's saying.
I've noticed the audio balance in his more recent videos is fine, although I hadn't seen his new-ish content when I posted the original comment here.

There's only one thing that I don't agree with him on. Sonic '06 wasn't bad. It was wonderful until you realize that the music is the only thing trying to keep anything plausible in that game. So the game isn't bad. It's terrible with that one feature everyone forgot about. Like how Resident Evil was good with it's own genre of being rather focused in solving puzzles and never knowing what's behind the door but then it lost that one thing in other games when it became an FPS and forgot what charm it had before. Sonic never really lost it's ability to have good music even with Sonic '06. But the gameplay... early alphas of other games are laughing at it.

All the reviews this guy seems to do sound an awful lot like "Beat Around The Bush: The Video" I think the only time that he actually got into something that was at a game's core, that I've seen at least, was a small bit of the one on Brütal Legend.

The music is the only real reason I enjoy Sonic now, which means I'm exclusively playing the older ones.
The 2006 bit's in there cause we learn from our mistakes and we have to acknowledge that they exist blah blah blah inspirational crap.
I'd say it did age well. The gameplay was solid for the most part, the music was great, graphism isn't bad unless it's a big point for you.
