Andràs Schiff zeigt in seinen Masterclasses wie kaum jemand anders, dass das Hören die Grundlage aller Technik und allen Musizierens ist. Vielen Dank für diese eindrückliche Demonstration!
Wonderful job, Maestro! So many details we ignore and miss the beauty of music. Congrats to the Student too, she was very open minded and adaptive! I hope we'll hear her soon...
It's strange but this phrase breathing and a will of not rushing things comes naturally after certain age, you suddenly enjoy the phrase, you want to stay there as long as it is, not to run further, because even as the music take 20 minutes to play it will end, you'll feel sad, and when it comes to Mozart it's a pity
I feel this generation of pianists just love to show off technical skill of playing everything fast, fast, fast. Look at all the baroque opera singers as well: all about just rushing, rushing, look how fast I can sing. Absolutely no musicality. All a marathon.
How do I actually know how short or long Mozart wanted his notes, please? I mean in those cases, where Schiff said, that sightreading the Mozart-notes is not enough 😊
The end of the sonata cannot be played in time. Music notation limits to some extent but the last bit is an unwinding clock and left and right hand should be out of sync. Have a listen to Horowitz doing this.

No, a lot of masterclasses like you said, from bigger picture to details, but what actually helps, is exactly what Schiff dose, rather walk with students with every detail from start, than bullshiting about some big fantasy thing, because at the end, details make bigger thing happens
These are advanced students. They have already studied what they play in considerable detail. What the master here does is explain the finesse necessary for fuller interpretation. In short the student understands the larger things well enough and to discuss those in such a masterclass would be a waste of time, which is fixed. He does all this with firmness but a great deal of tact.

It's as if they just copy all the technical elements and never fully feel the music as an artist. After all, it's not their culture. It's as if we went and tried to sing Chinese opera. Totally different style, pitches, everything.

Ein wirklicher Genuss, wie auf so hohem Niveau die Schönheit des Werkes mit der Schönheit einer Interpretation sich nach und nach verknüpft ...

16:07 to 44:15 is the masterclass of the 1st movement of Mozart's Piano Sonata No. 10 in C major, K. 330 / 300h
Such beautiful arms - such beautiful everything about this performance.
What an extraordinary experience ! thank you very much !
Sagenhaft. Ich bin fasziniert von a bis z. War Organist.

So weird to watch a Schiff masterclass in German...vor allem da ich bisher seine Meisterkurse immer nur auf Englisch gesehen habe :-D
Yes, and now I want to watch one in Hungarian
@@JohnMcCulloch75Since he refuses to concert in Hungary, he probably will also not teach there publicly.

In German with German CC sub titles, why?
I wish he did this in English: the German subtitles via TH-cam are not great.
But his German is very clear!
@@michaels7889 That does not help me.
there are many masterclasses of Schiff from Julliard and other schools in Englisch.
i am quite happy to hear him in my native tongue now and then.

Andras Schiff parodiert die Musik teils besser, als man sie je auf dem Klavier wiedergeben könnte
Anyone have the English subtitles for this? :)

She plays a little before the beat, and that is the root of all the problems.
Seems now we need new musical notation for the super expressive alberti bass 😂

Far-Eastern pianists can't quite fathom the spirit and subtleties of Western music. This is always the problem.
