I speak very little German and yet can always perceive the clarity of Schiff's message. The maestro has such a sensitive ear. Pure musician.

Schiff è un magnifico artista che, a differenza di altri pianisti del suo altissimo livello, si rende disponibile ad insegnare a chi è li per imparare l'arte della bella musica e lo fa con gentilezza e cortesia. Semplicemente in questo caso c'era molto da imparare! Basta ascoltare per capire...Poter fare una lezione con Schiff è un grande dono che si riceve. Mi auguro che il ragazzo che ha suonato accolga i consigli ricevuti per migliorare la sua sensibilità musicale e non si ponga in un atteggiamento presuntuoso come lei, Chiara, che ovviamente non li ha compresi. A buon intenditore poche parole.

Could you please add English subtitles for this video at some point? Can only understand the Italian terms...and at 27min, why they skipped to 2nd movement? Because time is limited? Or the rest of 1st mov is repetitive?

Der etwas hölzerne Schüler und der Meister mit dem feinen Schleifpapier. Ich wäre natürlich froh, so spielen zu können. Mein Ohr aber kann die Feinheiten auch hören, wenn Andras es anspricht.

Teaching a masterclass must be very difficult. Therefore I think highly of anyone attempting it.

Voicing, probably from all the Bach he's played...Schiff is a pianist who knows exactly how he wants it to sound, singing yet articulated confident and symphonic at times
Ich schätze Andras Schiff hoch. Aber die Art, wie er immer wieder wie angewidert sein Gesicht verzieht, wenn ihm etwas nicht gefällt, stört mich. Ob er sich dessen wohl bewusst ist? Zum Glück sieht es der Pianist meist nicht (aber wir als Zuschauer).
Was erwartest du von diesen penetranten Klassikschnösel 😂 der redet doch nur iwas nur damit er professionell wirkt und sein Job nicht verliert. Die ganzen Musikprofessoren sagen alle was andres und jeder kennt sich am besten aus. Absolut lächerlich.
Warum bewegen diese Klavierspieler ihre Oberkörper immer so sehr nach vorne und hinten? Warum sitzen sie nicht ruhiger?

Jeder Komponist hat bei seinen Stücken einen, meist emotionalen, Hintergrund. Es reicht leider nicht, wenn man das Stück nach Noten spielen kann, egal wie präziese. Das könnte auch jeder Midi-Track. Ein Pianist muss ein Gefühl für das Stück haben ... denn sonst ist das Stück gefühllos und tot - und nebenbei gesagt, auch nicht schön anzuhören ...
Every composer has a mostly emotional background to his pieces. Unfortunately, it is not enough if you can play the piece from sheet music, no matter how precise. Any midi track could do that too. A pianist has to have a feeling for the piece... otherwise the piece is callous and dead - and, by the way, not nice to listen to either...
Bester Kommentar!!! So Leute haben genau deswegen kein Gefühl weil sie ihre Noten ab Klimpern wie Roboter immer die gleichen Musikphrasen Lernen zum nach Klimpern 🤦🏼😆🤦🏼alles klingt gleich !

Mir gefällt seine Art. Er lobt auch, wenn er sich verstanden fühlt.

@Chiara Malek I dont agree with you. The young pianist continuously keeps playing when Mr. Schiff is speaking and trying to explain. Very arrogant the young pianist. And he didn't understood what Mr. Schiff was asking for. This can get a teacher intimatly very upset. But Mr. Schiff keeps trying to explain in a gentle manner. And yes: this a masterclass not a Kindergarden!
@Chiara Malek : a highly unintelligent statement. This is a masterclass for ambitious students; it is not kindergarten. Schiff is a remarkably great teacher, and there are hundreds of testaments to this.
Ja, seine Art ist etwas seltsam und unweise. Der aktuelle Stand der Didaktik ist ja, dass man dem Studenten hilft seinen eigenen Klang und Fähigkeiten herauszuarbeiten, aber er schreibt den Studenten einfach nur vor wie sie gefälligst zu Spielen haben. Er ist schon mega arrogant im Vergleich zu den meisten Lehrern.
