As someone who has dabbled in playing the bassoon, this performance is exquisite ! Katharina just dances on her instrument, it sounds so easy when played by such a virtuoso. The orchestra is also very nimble and exact. I'm very impressed ! The work of the sound engineers was also very good, some national broadcasters could learn a bit here.

This is the first time I have ever seen and heard of a bassoon playing a leading part in a piece of music. Usually for a lower range the cello is the soloist. So good to hear the double reeds being so honored!
Amazing; the bassoon is thicker than the young lady's wrist, but she makes it sing!! A wonderful performance, and I think the conductor enjoyed it as much as the audience did.

One often hears young musicians cutting their teeth on this best-known of bassoon concerti, but it is not every day one encounters a young musician approaching it with such a level of musicianship. After exemplary (and difficult) cadenzas in the first two movements, I love her abbreviated and almost humorous dismissal in the Menuet, where it would have been superfluous. Good job - well done! (Side note - someone needs to slip the horn player some barbituates before the next performance!)
This kid is good--VERY good. I had to learn this 65 years ago for my college entrance 'jury', and I still remember every damn note, including all the left-hand trills I had to fake. Fraulein Mätzler has far better technique than I ever did. I wish her well.
Bravo. Immer wieder höre ich mir diese wunderbare Aufnahme mit jungen Talenten. Es erinnert mich auch an Freund Hans Varch aus der Studienzeit, der - so viel ich weiss - hier tätig war. Im Jahr 1977 kehrte ich zurück - damals nach Yugoslawien und verlor gänzlich Kontakt zu ihm. Wünsche diesen jungen Talenten noch viel Erfolg.
What a delight to have the opportunity to listen to the young Basson soloist K. Mätzler performing a complex work with a radiant sparkle of serenity and regal. It is marvellous to see an orchestra assembled by young professional musicians. The orchestra and the soloist performed technical brilliance and interpretation of a sublime piece of excellence.
Frank Zappa mentioned several times that his favorite instrument is the bassoon - he would have loved this concert played by such talented young musicians! Congrats, Ihr habt grossartig gespielt!

I know Mozart's Clarinet Concerto gets all the love and praise, but I have cherished this work ever since I was in junior high school and purchased the Brooke/Beecham recording on a cheap Seraphim LP. I'm a trombone player and have played a bit of this work, but never in an actual performance. This really is one of my all time favorite wind concerti, and this is about as perfect as any performance could be. Bravo Ms. Mätzler. I see a very bright musical future for you.

Not a single down vote, as it should be! These young, but very talented, musicians are showing their passion and talents and Mozart is flowing through them. I was in Vienna during the MozartFest of 1991 and watched a 200 years dead man kick a bassoon player's arse. That night the opera house had only first and second chairs playing and having their three corner hats handed to them while playing - yet these youngsters are showing comfort and ease while playing very complex and intricate music. Mozart wrote concertos for friends who wanted to showcase new instruments and make their marks by playing difficult pieces, so I wonder what Amadeus would say about this showcase of talent? What a marvelous performance and played in the lively spirit in which Mozart should be played! Sehr gut gespielt und alles Gute für eure musikalische Karriere!

I have always loved the bassoon. And when i first discovered this piece 50 yrs ago i was so excited, and was so grateful to Mozart for composing it.

Bravo. Immer wieder höre ich mir diese wunderbare Aufnahme mit jungen Talenten. Es erinnert mich auch an Freund Hans Varch aus der Studienzeit, der - so viel ich weiss - hier tätig war. Im Jahr 1977 kehrte ich zurück - damals nach Yugoslawien und verlor gänzlich Kontakt zu ihm. Wünsche diesen jungen Talenten noch viel Erfolg.
What a delight to have the opportunity to listen to the young Basson soloist K. Mätzler performing a complex work with a radiant sparkle of serenity and regal. It is marvellous to see an orchestra assembled by young professional musicians. The orchestra and the soloist performed technical brilliance and interpretation of a sublime piece of excellence.

I know Mozart's Clarinet Concerto gets all the love and praise, but I have cherished this work ever since I was in junior high school and purchased the Brooke/Beecham recording on a cheap Seraphim LP.
I'm a trombone player and have played a bit of this work, but never in an actual performance.
This really is one of my all time favorite wind concerti, and this is about as perfect as any performance could be.

Not a single down vote, as it should be! These young, but very talented, musicians are showing their passion and talents and Mozart is flowing through them. I was in Vienna during the MozartFest of 1991 and watched a 200 years dead man kick a bassoon player's arse. That night the opera house had only first and second chairs playing and having their three corner hats handed to them while playing - yet these youngsters are showing comfort and ease while playing very complex and intricate music. Mozart wrote concertos for friends who wanted to showcase new instruments and make their marks by playing difficult pieces, so I wonder what Amadeus would say about this showcase of talent? What a marvelous performance and played in the lively spirit in which Mozart should be played! Sehr gut gespielt und alles Gute für eure musikalische Karriere!
