  • Hopefully the final step in our 5000 Gallon Rain Water Collection set up is the Aquasana Rhino Water Filtration System. I called Aquasana and this system was suggested to me since it is used a lot in rural areas for homes on a well and on Rain Water Collection which is perfect for our Off-Grid Homestead Build. It has a Pre-Filter, Carbon Filter, Water Conditioner, Post-Filter, and UV Light Filter. On top of that we'll have the Leaf Guards and a Sediment Filter for a total of 7 filters through the system.
    I also signed up to automatically receive new filters to be delivered per the system specifications. This way I don't have to think about it. When the filter is delivered I know it's time to replace them.
    The Pr-Filter is changed every 2 months, the Post-Filter every 6 months, the UV Light needs replaced every year, and the Carbon Filter and Water Conditioner is every 5 years. I'm also going to order a water test kit to do every 6 months or so just to be sure.

    Sweet setup. We built a similar system last year. One thing we did was put some extra pipes and taps so that we could put the filters in reverse to clean them by flipping 4 taps. Not sure what filters you have and if that's necessary for you. We are in Europe and our gear is a bit different. Also, yes, the UV will degrade the PEX over time.

      Hello! These filters can not go in reverse but I know what you're talking about. I was afraid about the UV light damaging the PEX. I'm considering making some changes to the set-up at alme point and will look at switching out the PEX then.

    Not a stupid setup it’s the user error mist of the time same connections that don’t come with uv light do not use brass fittings to connect pipe fittings on uv

    I'm facing the same problem with the pre filters alignment to the wall once it's radius is much shorter than the big cilinders. I'll need to cut some wood blocks to finish my installation. Thanks for the tips.

      luckily you can add one 2x4 or 2x6 and the 1-1/2" width was perfect. Good luck and thanks for watching.

    Agree on pex getting damaged in sunlight at least. It actually is in the material guide that it cant be exposed to sunlight. Id go 6 inches both directions with copper. Did you see how much energy the uv light was taking? Just curious cause it is a 24 hour load.

    • @Off-Grid
      @Off-Grid  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The light is ine 24/7 and doesn't even register. All the lights we have use very little power. I'll have to switch out that area of the PEX when I get a chance.

    You should have the water tested before and after the filter.

    Did you notice alot of the hardness gone?. Researching on this system since it's kinda expensive 😬😬 Can you do an update video?🙏🙏🙏

    • @Off-Grid
      @Off-Grid  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      We are on rain water so there wasn't any hardness to begin with. I'm sure the backup well would have hard water but we haven't had to use it yet. I know Aquasana has an iron filter that is an add-on to this system that might help.

    Is your Aquasana system before or after your booster pump and pressure tank?

    • @Off-Grid

      Hello Doug, the filters are after the pump and pressure tank. There should be several other videos on the set up on or channel. It's been working great for years now.

    Do you drink the water? We have a rainwater cistern system at our off-grid home and im trying to figure out a way to make it potable.
    Rjght bow we use it for house water but bring drinking water.

    • @Off-Grid
      @Off-Grid  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yes we drink it. I wouldn't without a UV light though as the holding tank will have bacteria in it. Good for the tanks biofilm but bad for us. I've actually installed two UV lights just in case one goes out and I don't catch it right away.

      @@Off-Grid good to know re the second UV light. Considering the same system but looking at the different options and details as far as maintenance.

    • @Off-Grid
      @Off-Grid  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@ZacharyLinhart we haven't had any issues. I would suggest getting the pre-filter holder. It's a ring that fits inside the casing and holds the filter in place when screwing it back together. I had a hard time keeping it lined up without it. Wish they had one for the post filter as well but that one is easier to line up. Might have one 3D printed for me just to make it easier.

      @@Off-Grid did you ever consider one of these quantum filters over the UV? My biggest concern is maintenance

    • @Off-Grid
      @Off-Grid  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@ZacharyLinhart I'm sure those are good as well but still a relatively new technology. I'm also not sure anything is maintenance free. I really don't check the UV lights much. They have alarms should they go out prematurely and the chances of both going out at the same time is slim. But a Quantum Filter does have benefits over UV that are worth looking into.

      Sure, everything has been working fine. I'm on their filters for life program. They deliver the filters I need when needed automatically at a discount. Haven't had any issues with the system and would recommend it.
