Hello. Hope this comment finds you. I this video is 4 years old. I am just now embarking on a 79 RM 125 restore and had some questions. I’m awe of what you did with yours!

Beautifully done! I owned and raced brand new 1979, 1980, 1981 and 1982 RM 125’s before going to Yamaha in 1983 and 1984, then Kawasaki from 1985 until I quit racing in 1989. This ‘79 bike was one of my favorites!

I raced the 100cc that 78-79. My dad built the heck out of it. Ported and polished head, aftermarket carb and pipe, shocks....you name it. I don’t think I ever lost on that bike. I remember a couple 125 guys buying a 100 just to come down and try me on. Good times. The best of times.

WOW FANTASTIC!!! You did such a beautiful job on this. 1979 was my first year racing and I had a 79 CR125. It's funny because looking back after seeing your build I think the Honda was the only bike that year that still came with the old style side number plates. I remember putting DG head, pipe and side plates on it as well as Fox shocks. Wish I still had it.

WOW, I had a brand new one in 1979, I recognized every lil part. Awesum details ! Man, I wish I still had one. Funny thing, up to last year I still had the OEM front tire, I changed it out new. Wasn't even dry-rotted.

Suzuki's were really good bikes in the 125 class during the late 70's early eighty's. Very good handling. My brothers first race bike.

@@tdksr5949 - The 81 is legendary. I diced with Ricky Ryan in practice sessions on my 81, he once won a Supercross round. The 1980 YZ 125 was almost as good.

I paid the exact same price for my new 1980, essentially the same bike as the ‘79, sans square rear fender....the 1980 had a slightly milder powerband. I think my ‘79 was right at $950. I think the ‘79 was a slightly faster bike. Of course the 1981 and 82 bikes were works bike space ships by comparison! What a great time to be racing moto!

I am currently doing a restoration on a ‘79 and I can tell you that ebay is def the way to go. Some stuff I had to go as far as the uk to order parts! These bikes were real big out there! I have some stock parts that I will be putting up on eBay from this bike as well for the all original, true bike restorers like this amazingly talented guy. Since my bike will be ridden, I had to update the shocks and sprockets and cables, chain, grips, bars. Also bought new, reproduction plastics all around but know enough to save the originals I have for someone who wants original. Hope it went well for you!

I remember those back then. I had one I was racing. Everybody hated those stock gay plastic. Everybody was ordering 78 rear fenders and putting them on. That boxy looking thing sucked. The engineers at Suzuki must have been smoking fish heads on that day.
