I'm glad I came across this review. I was looking at both of these TVs except in 49". I've been a Roku user for years and love the interface but have never owned a TCL brand TV. One of the biggest things I keyed in on in your review was the lack of apps on the LG. I'm sure they will add more as time goes by but Roku currently has everything I need. It looks like the pictures are close enough to make the decision to go with the TCL just to get the Roku system built in.
Just a little info. The Main and only Difference between the TCL43S403 and the TCL 43S405 is that the 405 have a thinner bezel and silver feet. The 403 have a thicker bezel and black feet which are also thicker (Google both model and look at the pictures). It seems like the 403 version might be a little steadier and a little more robust because of the extra plastic but internally they are all the same. people called TCL about that and they said both models have the exact same internal spec. they just wanted to update the look a little to make it more modern......hope that information help. Thanks
Thank you so much for your review. Our cat knocked over, and broke our bedroom TV, and these are the exact two I was looking at. The sound reviews for the TCL were off putting, especially for a brand I am not familiar with. However, the interface is definitely the cherry on top for me. Never used roku before, and was intimidated, but am now excited. I am going to Costco in the morning to check it out. Thank you so much.
I looked at one of these LGs in Walmart. Out of all the ones in this price range the LG is the only one that was not blurry when I got up close to it. I want to use it for a computer monitor and it was great at 2 feet or less. I wanted to compare it to a TLC but my WalMart seems to have taken all the display ones down since my last visit.
I ran into the same issue ....And I too want it for a computer monitor did u finally find one and if so which one did u go with? Any issues with burn in ?
@@SnowLovingPackersFan I ended up going with the Samsung M70 Smart 43 Inch 4K Computer Monitor, Smart TV Apps, Microsoft 365, 4K Monitor. Has worked well and has no burn-in so far. I only paid $275 for mine but that was a while ago.
Very good comparison video and review. I agree though they look very similar but the TCL with the Roku is better. My best friend bought an LG and it's a very nice tv, but personally I've been holding out for the TCL 6 Series for months.
Picture-wise I don't think you can go wrong with either of these panels however, the LG at least in this video looks better.. It all comes down to price and which OS you prefer.
Light bleed on the tlc, but some images look better on tlc. I think it’s because of better hdr representation. The colors on the lg look better overall because they aren’t over saturated. Also the lg’s picture is much more detailed and sharper. I like the lg overall. I use Roku and Apple TV so the onboard software I would not use. It really comes down to personal preference in my options. If lg only had better hdr it would take the win by a long shot.
The only thing missing on this review is that if you want to use the phone app as a remote , the TCL has a way better app that LG .I Just got a 70' LG and already had a 42 TCL/Roku and I am not too happy about the app on LG. The TCL/roku app is way more user friendly than the LG app. This almost makes me returned the 70 in LG TV for an 65 in Samsung or TCL.
Had TLC and took it back. First off the Roku is laggy! Screen bleed too. Then got the LG UJ6300 at Best Buy. Lg has a IPS display. It has better viewing angles, color, and sharper image. Web OS it's ok but limit compared to Roku. Just hooked up my Shield TV and everything is now great. :)
I wanna say the TCL is better but I think you have the colors set to warm or something, white looks slightly red. If that can be corrected then the TCL is better I think.
Greg also for the LG guys. I love LG don't get me wrong but the only thing lacking on the TCL is the HDR is a little dark.. As a 4k PC monitor TCL kills the LG. It has Chroma 4:4:4 a 4k@60 hz. The TCL also has better lag on the PC input so your kid can use it as a game monitor.
Yea the HDR brightness isn't great. Personally, I'd rather have better contrast ratio, better blacks than better HDR brightness so it's a fair trade off vs the LG
Thanks. I just got the 43517 for use as a pc monitor. I must say I am impressed with it. Picture quality is way much better than I had expected. My old monitors were 60 hz so no going backwards on the refresh rates. I don't game much but I did try COD WWII and I can not feel any lag. I am not an expert gamer.
I wanted to purchase a 4K tv that will replace my LG 10 year old set. I looked at the Higher end tv's in other places and didn't find didn't catch my interest. Until my cousin showed me his 49s405 and I instantly had to get it. I one week with the tv and I love it. The colors are so vibrant and the picture quality is just perfect for what I need. With a transition to ATSC 3.0 4k over the air in 2 years; which this tv has the tuner 3.0, I knew I had to prepare myself for the right tv. This TCL 4k tv deliver's the simplicity and yet performs the same along with the high end tv's. TCL is rapidly becoming a name for itself and with Roku, it provides the perfect balance for streaming content and gaming. TCL sold me; I will never go to any other brand anymore. Thanks TCL, you ROCK!!!
I like the deeper darks on the TCL. I was concerned about this as I heard from another reviewer that in LG the blacks look more gray due to the ips panel but the viewing angles are better on LG. I compared on rtings and found the contrast ratio of tcl to be better. I am a fan of deeper blacks so ordered tcl and also I’m a big fan of roku OS. Even if I would’ve got LG I would buy a roku stick. Roku is neat. Thanks for this review. It made my decision a lot easier.
Love the uj6300, appwise I only use Netflix, youtube, and sometimes amazon which the LG has. Seems like you can't go wrong with either one. However, I do have another LG roku 1080p tv, and the roku software lags for me and interferes with the functionality of the tv, especially when switching inputs and the apps crash sometimes.
Hi Greg, I bought the TCL 43S405 for our guest bedroom. Could you tell me what website I should go to for finding out the suggested optimal video settings for this TV?
If anyone else is getting bleeding on the tcl and you want darker blacks, set the setting to brighter, set gamma to 2.0 or 1.8 depending on the lighting in your room to help with black crush, and brightness to 43
I picked one up this weekend. Sound is a downside. Roku is outstanding. Out of the box, picture quality, refresh rate, and Color calibration are all pretty bad, but not so noticeable while watching movies/tv. As a computer monitor it was the worst color calibration I've seen (before setting it up). Took me several hours to get the calibration to a good compromise between colors using Nvidia control panel (tv cannot really be "calibrated" using it's own settings). Overall, after getting the right settings (gaming mode on for a decent refresh rate) and "normal" mode, along with PC level color calibration, it ends up being a really good bargain, assuming it lasts....
Bro... you did an awesome review man. I am down to these two but I think I might go with the TCL based on your video of how more app/channels you have with the Roku Platform. Like you said. The LG is a hair brighter but I like the TCL color better for the deeper contrast. Both are great but the Roku platform is killing the game. Thanks again.
I agree with you 100%. Feel better about the LG brand but without the Watch ESPN, DisneyNow, PBS, NickJr, CNN, etc I don't want the LG. TCL Roku System is more expansive. If you're cutting the cord Roku is the way to go.
Can't really get a good idea of the colors and what not on the LG when there's a light shining directly on it and causing glare. The colors look more washed out on it but you're saying they look the same.
The LG looks way better for sure. But that's to be expected. I'm more shocked that the TCL TV looks that good, for that low of a price. At the price you purchased them for, the LG wins hands down. But for the everyday purchase. When the LG is back to MSRP, the TCL is the way to go.
the lg panels have a serious problem with the yellows .. and the 55 inch is no different . just took one back . the yellows were orangish or greenish. this lg in the video is no different
I went to bestbuy today to compare TV's and hands down to LG LEDs on the back panel is properly distributed and less bleeding not like others TCL, Insignia, Sharp their LEDs are blown out very bright and lots of uneven bright.. Samsung and LG are similar but LG is the best.. I love roku and I just gonna buy roku stick instead of roku TV
Im kindve sad that im spending 716 for 65 inch model ending in 405 roku smart tv tcl not even sure if thats good. It is included tax and warranty i wonder if everyone with their low prices is giving the full price with added warranty and taxes. Give the full price. I have to have at least 5 year warranty these tvs dont last past 3 years. I should just settle for 55 inch same type tv but will only pay 450 with taxes and warranty.
This is a welcome match up. Also looking at these 2. Based on this, I'd pick the LG. There are times where the richer contrast is really apparent....and to me, the colors are a little more true, although cranking the color up a bit could make it pop more. But as far as smart functionality, the TCL wins for sure.
Fritz Regis Tumapon Honestly that is a very tough call. Maybe LG simply because I know the brand better and the reliability of TCL is somewhat unknown at this point. The picture quality was very similar but LG might have more real color.
@@Korovilas yes i agree LG is a reliable brand that has been producing great products, but i researched on various vidoes and channels and found out that the input lag on the TCL is better than the LG for a couple of mili secs and as well as the panel for the TCL produces blacker blacks than the LG. your thoughts?
I'm poor the one that holds up is the best . You ever think about a android tv box for your kids room.? TCL you don't see as many how to repair videos so I think they hold up better.

Bullshit. I’ve owned only LG and had no issues whatsoever I’ve tried the other top brands and returned them. Tried the shit brands like rca tcl and Vizio and returned them as well. LG is quality. If you went through two of them the fault is yours. Not theirs.
@@Digikidthevoiceofreason let's not forget that just because it doesn't happen to you doesn't mean it doesn't happen.. I take care of my shit and have had a lg that was fine one night next day screen stopped working
I have both TV's and the LG seems to be better at upscaling 1080p content and for gaming while the TCL can be slightly better with 4k hdr movies/videos but depends on the settings. You can make them look identical at the right settings for movies/videos but not for gaming or upscaling.
Based on your Camera, the TCL (Left) has much better Color that pops, aslo a bit brighter with Contrast Ratio. The LG (Right) looks a little flat and washed... In Person in might be different.. I to am in the Market for a 75 4k that is a Replacing a Legendary Panasonic Plasma that does so many things well.... just isnt 4k. I went to best buy and saw the LG 75UK190 open box for $699!!!! but the picture (Bluray Source) looked the same very washed out.. lacking color.. I decided not to buy it,,,even though the price was amazing.
Dude nothing in this review is valid because you didn't mention the specific color settings you had both TV's set to! Did you have HDMI ultra deep color turned on on the LG and it's equivalent t on the other? Did you hit more options s on the TH-cam video and confirm they we're both outputting above a 1920x1080 resolution? Did you spend time fine tuning the picture on both or just go with numbers off the internet? Come on man! Btw I have the LG 49uj6300 and I absolutely love it for the money. I spent weeks fine tuning the picture and now it's incredible 😁😊
No, I tried the TCL and immediately took it right back, even at it's brightest settings it was dark as hell. I tried both of these and I really didn't really like either one of them but the LG most definitely had way better picture, but it also had input lag and global dimming which is what forced me to take that one back too. Both of these tv's suck. I tried these, Insignia, Hisense and Sharp, but I finally found almost everything I'd been searching after for months in a budget 4k smart tv with Vizio. The LG's picture is still better than Vizio's in vividness but Vizio's is still way better in color spectrum than the TCL's was. The only thing that annoyed me with Vizio is it's sound because it's super flat, but I have a sound bar which takes care of that. But trust me, between these two the LG's is way better in picture.
What will be price for TCL 43 inch new smart TV? Can we use amazon firestick and download third party app and play. What is the refresh rate of the TV. How many HDMI and USB Ports are there? Any advance audio tech they have used. Whether it has 3.5 mm audio out is there? What will be screen resolution? How many watts speakers? What will be weight of the TV? I do hope it should have Wi-fi, Bluetooth, LAN/Ethernet. Any screen casting or mirror casting available? What will be the audio and video format supports? Whether it has MHL connectivity support? How is the sound quality and picture quality compare to sony and samsung? Whether they use any technology for blur free viewing. what is the viewing angle? Can we add additional speakers with tv? How many years warranty period? What about service centre in Chennai? India Where are the showrooms in Chennai? Whether it has any additional features compare with Sony TV / Samsung TV. Is it purely complete android TV? Whether it comes with 3D? What is backlight depth? What is the built in storage capacity?

@Michael Powell then at 7:44 the light bleeding is very noticeable on the edges of a white screen... I can't decide if I like this TV or not lol 😂
I have the TCL. Got it for $320 at BJs. Plan to ship to my home. The picture is mind blowing. The only drawback is poor viewing angles. Mine is 49".

the lg panels have a serious problem with the yellows .. and the 55 inch is no different . just took one back . the yellows were orangish or greenish. this lg in the video is no different
The colors on these entry level LG's are way off & strange.
The detail is crushed on the TCL,,colours are over saturated..Quite evident with red and green colours. There is more detail in picture on the LG.
Negative own both the tcl is better
For Main TVs it's always (SONY the one & ONLY)
Agreed. The LG's picture is much more accurate overall. You can plainly see it.
jwathas Are you guys still liking it?
Well you need to get your eyes checked because the TCL has almost 4 times better contrast ratio. 4000:1 vs the LG's 1000:1
You do understand that contrast ratios really can't be compared from manufacturer to manufacturer right?
A final qual é melhor TCL ou LG quero saber sou do Brasil
but if you could choose between them and the TCL is a non roku interface would you choose LG then? a respose would be much appreciated :)
@@fritzregistumapon3637 I agree on both comments.
The dirty screen effect on the TCL really bothers me. Color looks better on the TCL and I have mixed feelings on Roku.
I think you can add those apps can’t you
I will buy this as a second tv for the bedroom. My main tv is a Samsung.
I'm poor the one that holds up is the best . You ever think about a android tv box for your kids room.? TCL you don't see as many how to repair videos so I think they hold up better.
PBS available over the air "digital TV it's free".
Why is it people don't realize how easy it is to tap in to your existing coax cable lines and ad an out door external over the air antenna to your set. Or simply ad an in door antenna to your TV set.
Wi-Fi and a streaming service i.e. Apple, Chromecast, Roku & Fire stick is all you need for streaming your Favorite channels. SO AVIOD NONSENSE CABLE TV & PHONE OFFERS! "CUT THE CORD!"
Using my existing cable lines was so easy to tap into and ad an antenna. Most channel's you want are available on streaming services..like PBS you only need to add as an app. "In most cases". If not available get that over air antenna today.
If this is for gaming the lg has horrid input lag and the tcl has a game mode for sufficient reduction of the input lag
The LG has game mode aswell. It has 11ms.
You got a good point, but I had returned mine for the Roku interface because it is easier to use in my opinion
LG will probably last longer that's worth the extra money.
This specific LG has a far higher failure rate than the TCL it's being compared with. It's way too fragile, even for modern TV standards.
METALMAN4Wii lg is terrible went through 2 already
RelliK RedRuM Probably got power spiked. No matter the brand a power spike can and will destroy anything.
I have both TV's and the LG seems to be better at upscaling 1080p content and for gaming while the TCL can be slightly better with 4k hdr movies/videos but depends on the settings. You can make them look identical at the right settings for movies/videos but not for gaming or upscaling.
So the lg is better for gaming.
Please remove the web os menu while comparing
Good video... thanks
I just broke my tcl tv and just bought a lg tv today, I liked the tcl tv better
Why?
WHY
Tcl 4K does not have a good picture quality. I returned it but roku is better than other interface
Hey man we just got this TCL TV it says it’s on 780p how to I get it on 1080p???
LG for games, input lag super low
So this would be good for my one x?
@@red0477 Yes it will, the Xbox one X will make the TV look like heaven
@@red0477 if you have the original Xbox one or S or PS3 the pictures are dull
Nah I have the x and just the PS4 I think the slim one
The tcl has low input lag as well
Based on your Camera, the TCL (Left) has much better Color that pops, aslo a bit brighter with Contrast Ratio.
Freddy S. What’s your fine tune setting?
TCL has a better picture in my opinion.
The LG would last longer and more reliable. Just use a Roku or Kodi box.
kids shouldnt be watching cnn anyways.. so thats a good thing.
chris s true lol
😂👍
LG for life I will never never buy another brand different from lg amongts the best tv manufacturer in the world 👌👌👌
good for u
The LG looks clearer and more detailed to me. The TCL has slightly better color.
LG!!!!
lg has depth
The LG picture is clearly better. I would buy the LG and a streaming Roku stick before I'd put down any money for the TCL TV.
