- Let my Country Awake: Javed Akhtar, Ruskin Bond, Nandana Sen, Swapan Dasgupta and Barkha Dutt on where the country stands between the extreme positions on the intolerance debate. January 26, 2016, closing session at Tata Steel Kolkata Literary Meet 2016, at Victoria Memorial.
I met Ruskin Bond in Mussourie a few weeks after this debate and he told me that that was the first and the last time he took part in a debate loll😂

I enjoyed Calcutta literary festival as a student of Calcutta University English department in 1990s.

Ruskin Bond admits that he got calls to return the award for "intolerance". That is why we call the awardvapsi campaign was manufactured. Swapan Dasgupta is at his usual best. Javed Akhtar is also fine.
Speak only when necessary - Sir Ruskin Bond proved this with ease and through his deep intellect. He remained calm, considerate and non-confrontational. A wise man speaks less and listens a lot more. No wonder Ruskin Bond is loved by all :)

Barkha moment Swapan is making a point to contradict your own views you interupt and bring Javed or Nandita to interupt and then you listen to Javed or Nandita without interruption. So here or at NDTV studio nothing has changed. This is no way trolling you or disrespectful language

Javed Akhtar Sir, Anupam Kher did not become good actor suddenly in 2016, he was there since 35-40 yrs and doing wonderfully well and most deserving. This is the height of intolerance and hypocrisy that why should Anupam Kher get Padma award because his opinion differs from mine.
According to these current "panelists" like BD & JA, whatever they say is is LOGICAL, RATIONAL, & whatever else they say, but whatever they do not agree with is IRRATIONAL, ILLOGICAL, NON-SCIENTIFIC. They are audacious enough to claim that they are the only ones who are rational, sensible & wise & whatever. The=ir tone too is so condescending.

Barkha seems to misinterpret the word liberal. Why should the liberal opinion mean that a person should be allowed to eat any meat he wants? On the contrary, the liberal should stand for the right of the animal to live not the right of the human to eat it. So the liberal should ban any kind of animal slaughter.... Is that not what is happening with PETA?
Dietary freedom does not exist in the USA for example... I do not believe one can eat Horses and Dogs in the US... or at least it is not socially acceptable..

I have listened to the early parts of the discourse. It seemed to me that Ms Barkha Dutt tried to convert the literary meet, a platform to take on her opponents especially Mr. Arnab Goswami, shamelessly indeed. But , Ms Dutt, please remember it would not work. He is unreachable by you.

javed is a real crook and sort of trying to pontificate on social issues masquerade ing as an intellectual when he is really and old pudding head. To make himself look fair and square he will criticise muslims only to legitimise his criticising the Hindus. India should know one truth is that while Congress in power, it used to give almost 750 crores to 1000 crores for award functions of Bollywood. In that only around hundred crores used to spent on function ,remaining amount will be shared by Bollywood people and one more thing is that ,whenever prime minister of India when Congress is in power visiting foreign countries, it used to take journalists particularly who anti India and anti Hindus like Rajdeep sardesai, Barkha Dutt, Ravish Kumar and from Hindustan Times and from Times now, to foreign countries with lavish facilities.
After BJP in power they are not enjoying these facilities, that's why they are spraying venom on India and BJP.
