congrats on the new bike! Always a treat. You did get yourself a winner! Amazing going to the bike shop and hearing "old technology" , "phased out", "discontinued", etc etc and then you see someone still riding the bikes in perfect condition. Hope we get more details of your experience compared to the new bikes but it seems like you're thrilled!
Congrats on your rim brake bike! Its super light, fast and beautiful and hope you have an amazing experience riding it. I own a Trek Emonda SLR in rim brake and a LiteSpeed T1SL rim brake and both are amazingly light, fast and responsive and love every second riding them.
Great video again Katie love your honesty in everything you do, i've ridden around Hebden but never that route (going to pinch it off strava|) stunning views and climbs and pretty local to me (Ramsbottom) oh and the worx jet wash is amazing- so portable and just enough power without damaging anything.
Love 2nd hand bikes. Picked up a lovely Cannondale CAAD10 with 105 groupo in december for 300 quid..... rides beautifully also has rim brakes, which i love.... great to see you going down the 2nd hand route.... keep on riding, love the videos. Thx
My first bike was a Specialized Secteur from 2011, similar style but red/white. Upgraded the wheels to DT Swiss P1800s, worked with 28mm tyres when I swapped the rim brakes to the latest 105s. It‘s now permanently on the turbo, but great bike…
Qudos for showing the good bargains people can get second hand. In a world of sponsors etc - this makes me trust you a lot. Other channels like compare super cheap new bikes with mid level new bikes. But ignore the amazing bargains second hand and the diminishing returns.
Thanks Andrew! So glad you like it - there are SO many great second hand bikes out there and seems such a waste to just ignore that market. It's such a great bike for climbing too woop woop!
From what I understand You save a couple hundred grams going up each r.. 9, 10 and 11 and the frames are stiffer but then the newer frames allow wider tires so it’s give and take. My main road bike is a Tarmac SL2. It doesn’t need discs.
Fun video as always. Used bike market here in USA is getting more reasonable with new bike inventory sittin unsold. Pandemic bikes now coming into the market at more realistic prices. Thank you for your passion...it's contagious 😂
I recently got a Bryarn mesh base layer. That really is amazing! And I have tried a few. Ends feeling chilled when stop. Never feels wet. Insulates well with another close fitting layer on top.
I had a Roubaix from that time frame. Really well built bicycles and they were heavier but they didn't break with a small fall over in the wind while laying against the fence.
„is a twelve year old bike still good“… the bike I use most often is 21 years old (of course with some newer components), can hardly Imagine to give it away because a friend of mine rode the TdF in 2003 with that bike - and it’s still fun to ride!
Nice to see you having fun out on the bike again Katie, loved the views, looks very cold, opposite to here in Oz with bushfires in some places, heat waves and cyclones in others. Oh for the calm, cool tranquility of the English countryside. Those views make me ‘ome sick’ sort of.
Where are the big bike brands in sponsoring you??? You have done so much for cycling, and women’s cycling in particular… they are bloody fools for not doing so. Love the new to you whip though. Rim for the win!! 🏆
This video was so full of joy, laughter, and fun. Thank you for your effort to make the day a better place for your viewers. Also, "Cold little sheepies." That is sooooooo adorable. You are too funny. 😊
The last good tarmac was the 5. The latest 8 is probably the worst an ultra flimsy frame to counteract the disc brakes and it’s still not as light as my 2014 TCR
The new specialized bikes are high quality. lol. I know many love rim brakes, but to say the s works or any other race bike in this age are badly built, is wrong. Durianracer is entitled to his opinion, but no.
I also purchased a 2012 Specialized Tarmac a couple of months. It's a really nice bike and it has a dura-ace 7800 groupset with nice 35mm wheels. Really happy with it.
I've got an sl4 Tarmac, 2017, very precise steering. Good all purpose road bike. Maybe a bit aggressive, but actually the fact 9r is more compliant than 10, 11r. way to sniff out the deal at 300!
Yes that new bike feeling is just the best , I have also just got a new bike as it’s been nearly five years since my last new bike ! It’s nice & smooth & quick . Those in the valley are called cloud ☁️ inversions 😅
@@KatieKookaburra basically a newer version of my current one , a new Boardman carbon slr 8.9 but with full 105 & I love it , good deal also as it was £1200 but with discounts etc got it for £690 !! it’s a joy to ride can’t wait till spring summer ☀️ 😎🚴🏻♂️
Bought a Tarmac off Ebay( fully serviced ha ha) and yes the headset was shot so I went right through the whole lot. Now it is done I have a lovely 58 cm " Kawasaki Green" bike with sensible 11 speed 105 kit. A step up from my 12 year old Allez which I love just as much really. The Tarmac is fast but comfortable imho. Glad you like yours.
An excellent video with some magnificent misty landscape views … they bring back fond memories of my time in the Midlands! Well done completing that +2C wintry ride … the new bike looks great! 🚴♂️🐑🙂
grand video as ever Katie - thanks! Yes please for the tips on 2nd hand buying. New bike looks fab. & just to be clear, all the good people get excited to see the beasties in the fields & talk to them. 😆
The older Tarmacs are the best ❤️ have an SL4 myself and love it I'd never pay what specialized expect for their newer models when these offer so much performance and usually lighter and fantastic value
I recently bought a Fuji Altamira 2012 for not very much. It is just great a terrific bike that I love riding and it was a bargain. It will do me for a while. .
SL4 has a more aggressive race stance geometry for competition sprinting so would be perfect on better Swift times but less comfortable as long distance endurance bike like the Ribble would love a Time Scylon with look components myself as a Artists in Australia who grew up with Renault cars
Really cool video I just purchased a 2015 Bianchi Rim Brake bike that was barely ridden I found the new ( Or used ) disc brake bike prices ridiculous and really wanted to see if a ~10y bike can still offer something in 2024
It's refreshing to see a TH-camr saying here's a secondhand thing I've bought rather than here's something I've been sent by a sponsor. And I do realise sponsors are essential to making a living out of this lark, so we accept that. But in an age of throw away things, seeing the value in something that is used is great for the planet.
Martin that really means a lot to me, thank you! I am all about sustainability and not only that I won't EVER recommend someone to buy a buy out of what they can afford just to 'keep up' - when actually these bikes are KILLER to ride! :) And what a bargain. None of us need £10k bikes. Thanks again really means a lot x
I think I may want those DT Swiss PR 1400 rims on my Roubaix...which is black and white just like that one. Nice vid going back to an older bike. Can't wait to see your next video on that one. 🌞
I love a good Tarmac. I still have my faithful 2011 SW Tarmac Limited Edition (not sold in the UK), which was "too liight" for many, and not UCI compatible so, not too many people wanted it. SL3 frame but still an amazing bike! I still love it. Good choice of bike! Enjoy it!
❤ the Vid' Katie.. Lamas/Alpakas.. Sheep.. Donkeys.. youve got it all in spades as ever!! But that Vista.. Hell Gal.. that was Breathtakingly Stunning!! The only Carbon Framed Bike I ever came close to buying was a Tarmac.. Bizarre! I ended up with 2 Titanium Rim Braked Bikes instead!! Now I have 2 Steel Disc Braked Gravel Bikes.. 1 full Guards .. the other my Summer Steed! Lovely to back connected to Your Rides My Dear.. 2024 bring it on!! 🎉
Great to see affordable options being promoted. Riding should be accessible for everyone! Would like to hear a long term review of the Winspace though too!
If you worry about dogs get a tandem. I’m always tell my stoker I don’t have to out run the dog as long as I stay ahead of her 😄. Congrats on the new bike!
Best route and cafe! What cassette do you have on the Tarmac? I’ve got a Roubaix and just bought myself a Diverge… can’t go wrong with them but I do wonder if I should change my cassette. I have 34/34 atm on both. Climbing Widdop is doable but I came off up there on my last ride 🙄
Very nice bike ! That stem if you flip it will put you in a very aggressive position too. Aggressive you need a different stem. If I'm going to buy a bike I'm definitely going to get something rim break and between 2015 and 18
You can’t beat a Tarmac, just superb, regardless of what generation you buy, brilliant bikes. Great video and route. Almost having a snowball fight was good fun.
Ooh, what pressure washer sorcery is this? I don't have an outside tap and have been using buckets of water, but this is exactly what I need! What make and model if you don't mind me asking?
Uk has some great bikes on the second hand market. I bought one and exported it over the channel. I learned the hard way how rough the VAT estimates are on carbon bikes that day. Lmao. But i got myself a minty Trek Boone on cantilevers. Always wanted that bike back in the day. Great bike and upgrades Katie!
I love your love of rim brakes, they look so much nicer on a roadbike than discs.. And that's a cracking bike. I just bought my first bike back. My Cannondale six from 2010, and I love it more now than when it was new!
I would appreciate a video on second-hand bikes and what to look out for, as I am always nervous to buy second-hand, but I know that there are some bargains to be had 😊 Great video and I think you should definitely do a katie cycling & lambing clip 😂
What's the combo of the crankset Katie? 48/31 or 46/30? And did you have enough adjustment range on the FD hanger to set the FD low enough (I'm assuming it was 50/34 when you bought it...)
@@KatieKookaburra it’s mostly clearcoat over the black carbon lay-up, with red&white trim. Upgraded to 11 speed Ultegra a couple of years back. 11-34 cassette so it climbs like a dream. Nailed it. In spite of all his backlash, as a mechanical engineer and long time cyclist, he is absolutely right.
Why would you listen to what he's got to say.........What does he know about riding on UK roads?
