Nice job these Z19DTH fiat engines are very good apart from egr and swirl flap issues best to EGR delete leave it there just put a blanking plate need ECU remapping but it's worth it my inlet manifold and throttle body stay clean and manifold air pressure sensor stays clean which is why you get that flat spot at set off
I got my VECTRA 1.9 cdti (150 bhp) blanked out with that kit that's on ebay for about £39, I'm a Taxi driver and it's in for about 70000, NO PROBLEMS so far!
With the EGR valve, undo the 4 screws holding the solenoid to the valve body, the EGR shaft is pushed by the solenoid and returned with spring pressure, with the solenoid off, you can clean it up properly and it will become free moving again
@@adamcollins9404 did you have any experience with egr on petrol engines, is it worth spraying carb cleaner in the intake to clean off than carbon, or is it getting cleaned off by sprayed petrol from injectors on z12xe?
@@imakro69 I've found that on an Corsa C Z12XE engine, cleaning the EGR rarely works for long. The problem is, once the valve gets stuck by the carbon build up, the solenoid that controls the valve stops working properly (usually throwing error code P1405 'EGR solenoid circuit high'), probably because it overworks, as it cannot move the valve. Replace the EGR, a fairly simple job. I've done this job three times on 3 Corsas, all still running and the first I did has now been going fine for 20,000 miles. All were EGR valves from China (now on eBay £23 as of September 2021!)
Thanks a lot for the video Martin! It was werry helpful! I studied it over and over and I just completed this on my Saab 9-5 with the same engine with 300 000km, it was sluggish, smoked a lot at startup, ran uneven, would not regenerate and lately the check engine light came on and it would go in and out of limp mode. After digging in and cleaning out maybe 500grams of sot in my manifold 🙈 (I dont understand how the car even ran). The EGR was stuck open, after cleaning it did passed the test. The swirl flaps was a total mess so I removed them and also decided to restrict the EGR. When I started up afterwards there was no smoke, even idle and twice the power. After driving for 10 minutes the check engine light went of and the car got even more power. If I had done this sooner, I wouldn't had to fight with the DPF for a long time, blaming it for the fault as there seems to be noting wrong with it, it was just having symptoms coming from all the mess in my intake manifold. 😅 Thanks again, Now my car runs fantastic 😎
Ah, Martin, it's you ...... at the end of the last video you couldn't be recognized anymore.🖤 Good job, and the donation (thanks to the donor) saved a lot of work👍
Blank the EGR Martin. You can get the EML to go if you get it mapped out. Otherwise its going to get clogged again. To fully do the job entirely you have to remove and blank or weld the manifold where the EGR fits. Remove the cooler pipe for the EGR and get the EGR mapped out. That will eliminate any future issues. I use a blanking plate with a small hole. It does the trick for me as it prevents the EML coming on. I just clean the EGR if and when required. The throttle bodies are prone to leaking oil too into the electrical circuitry causing issues. If there is lots of oil in the boost pipe it could mean the turbo seals are going.
just casually watching this 2 years later and when he said andrewgave him the swirl flaps i thaght thats my neighbour 😂 he is also the reason i braght a vectra in the first place and i also helped strip the car and i took the inlet off ready for somone to come collect. very small world. anyway keep up the good work really live watching your vids

You said you cleaned the EGR valve before and now it's really dirty again, is there a defective valve sten seal or damaged bore letting a small amount of oil into the combustion system?

Hi I run into this problem... What are my options? 1.New intake from pierburg 2. Flaps repair kit, metal rod + plastic flaps 3. Delete them? I dont want to delete them because I hate the power loss at low rpm
@@retrorestore If I delete them - I dont have the swirl effect... But I can refurbish my original intake and no need to waste 200 euro on a new one + I will run in trouble because things will break eventually... you mentioned the part on the end of the manifod as a 'throttle body' this is incorrect it is infact an anti shudder valve which is designed to prevent shuddering at engine shut off to prevent dual mass flywheel premature wear ,this can be deleted too as you may have seen there is a good one centimeter reduction in the centuri caused by this module ,tuners usually delete this to allow the engine to breath better ,great video and have you any feed back on the longevity of this repair at all?
Hi Martin, long time. I have a 2004 Vauxhall Zafira 2.0dti, y20dth engine, with the electronic egr valve, not the one in the middle of the front of the engine. Is it true, that if I was to remove the swirl flaps, I could save diesel? And ive heard you can snap them off, as the reason ai believe people remove them, is they stick over time, and I am looking for a mower deck for a classic 35.
What "pt197472 said".. Every consider by-passing the EGR valve? Living in England, we have few below-zero Celsius days, so drive-ability shouldn't be a factor. A fabricated sheet metal plate over the valve should suffice. Re map. When by-passed, the lack of an EGR will also result in a marginal improvement in power. The intake manifold will also stay cleaner, longer.
God knows how much that lot would cost to have done in a garage, a horrendous amount I suspect. Very impressive work, am certain that'll go like dry grit of a chrome shovel when it starts up. 24 hour wait anyway for the silicon to go off. Is it a female car ? Could be called silicon Lill :)
Aint as if he has pressed delete on a keyboard to say he has deleted the swirl flaps.....he has REMOVED them hence why it took ages to remove the inlet manifold whereas a delete pressed on a keyboard is instant

Opels are a nightmare to work on under the bonnet, especially in comparison with Toyotas, like changing a belt while unscrewing the motor mount
Will deleting them affect performance? Why not replace them?
They are not a performance part. They are a constant problem. This car already had a complete new manifold a few years ago.
