Maybe I'm naive or too kind to him but I didn't think Starmer was laying a 'trap' if you will when he was saying he was happy to stand and correct the record if Kemi had ever spoke on the topic in parliament. I thought he was genuinely furious the whole way through PMQ's that the topic was being discussed in that way, and that the Tories were planning to vote against the bill later in the day. He's usually so monotone but when he gets to an issue of justice like this, I think you see a bit of fire come out

I regularly disagree with some of Ava's "hotter" takes and she's not making the point particularly well, but she is right that the voucher idea is dumb and it would stifle candidates from outside the main parties. Independents already face an uphill battle.

eh, how? I don't think people would be likely to give their vouchers to the main parties - nobody fucking likes the main parties, people only vote for them because of FPTP. The vouchers wouldn't allocate funding by FPTP, so it would benefit smaller parties.

How was she correct? You can donate your funding to a different candidate to who you end up voting for. You can give the money to say a green candidate or independent but in the last few days see polling suggests it's between the tory and labour - so you vote Labour. The idea that independents would get less money from tax funded, democratic allocation of finances than private donations is insane.
You could also massively restrict private donations rather than remove them entirely. A single person can only donate say £200 per candidate or party per year. You still massively destroy millionaire donations.

Perhaps the vouchers idea would be fairer overall if private donations had a reasonable cap.

The politicisation point scoring on this is absolutely dispicable, the victims are completely being forgotton and the actions needs like investment in services, youth work, social services and better policing that listens to victims, doesn't discredit or dismiss or see a not credible.they were failed by all these services, all services which have been underfunded and cut under the Tories.
It still does not excuse the complete lack of empathy or understanding the victims were met with as the misogyny of the police and may other ways the victims were dismissed by CPS also meant that this went on for years.

I think Eva is really smart, so I'm sometimes confused by her analysis that I find completely lacking in insight and thorough analysis. While I normally agree with Ava's analysis, I'm really shocked by how terrible her take on political funding and democracy vouchers is.
If there's one thing the last 5 years of politics should have thought us, its that grassroots canvassing and social media strategy can galvanize a political movement even without the use of old hat strategies like leafleting.
Whats more, by giving everyone a democracy voucher, it would incentivise greater political engagement and awareness amongst the general public, something we desperately need.

bad topic for the tories. They did nothing for 14 years, and are on record as never saying anything. whereas starmer and labour MP's like phillips have been all over this, increasing prosecutions, helping victims, making a difference. Anyone calling for another inquiry is just scoring political points (and failing), we need action not words, which is thankfully what labour and starmer is delivering. starmer was very impressive, and strong, gave a good performance, backed up with a great record. The fact these presenters still attack him is just getting childish at this point. I think its becoming increasingly clear they lack real experience and are too in the media bubble, more interested in political point scoring than issue, and have no real appreciation of how things actually work outside of their bubble. They go on like this much longer, ava in particular, and they will go down the road kay burley and others have gone. You also normally attack starmer for being bad at PMQs, now you attack him for being good at it..... and ava's worst take is on vouchers, its a system where every person has equal impact, the current system gives the rich more, but for a reform/tory like her I suppose it comes naturally to want inequality.

Consider also that the same Prophet Muhammed executed a man and his children in front of the mans wife, the children's mother. That he then forced her to marry him, raped her and forced her to bear his own children. Consider also that the same prophet Muhammad married a 6 year old, and took her virginity on her 9th birthday.

This discussion about roller coasters triggered a long buried memory of the time I unofficially assisted my friend, who was a social worker. With about a billion teenagers with down syndrome, going to a theme park.
On this log flume, a chain snapped. They had to put the handbrake or something. And we had to get off this ride. At an angle. Going down these wet steps.. Petrified of slipping, or just as bad, a poor fella with downs slipping, and crashing into me.
Like a mid-nineties episode of Casualty.
Luckily. We didn't. And in the end, we got given a massive stack of free meal coupons. And I ended up having an interesting conversation with a guy about pinball machines.
