No, there was in fact some reference to fear of being labelled racist among the authorities who "turned a blind eye". I have no idea whether it was said in good faith (my instinct would be that it was not), but it seems a rather shabby excuse. Rape is a physical crime that leaves physical traces. It can be determined objectively, without reference to race or ethnicity. National Inquiries are official procrastination - nothing more, nothing less. One has only to see what has happened in the Contaminated Blood business and the Post Office Scandal to name but two of many to see that they are ways of putting off doing anything apart from lining the pockets of those conducting those inquiries.

Nobody was scared of being labelled a racist. Some racists have been crying wolf and making accusations about 'pakistanis' for decades, so when they accuse large groups of them of something so serious, it's their fault if nobody believes them.
No, that point is not untrue. They did *say* that (though I would question whether they believed it). The main reason they didn't take action is that they looked down on the girls as "scum".
The reality of Kemi is that her party talks and posts a lot on X but doesn't take any actual action on what they say. They are no more than simply people pleasers. However, there should be a National Enquiry for more evidence to be provided under Oath.

You couldn’t ring her up and say “let’s implement some of the things from these recommendations”?? It’s not good enough to that as minister for women and children that this thing was just, not your problem, not your fault. Honestly Starmer didn’t come off well here. He could have hit her *way* harder for her inaction on these points.
As a member of the Cabinet she had 'collective responsibility'. My previous MP was Sajid Javid and he replied to my letters on various issues, citing this cop-out as a reason for doing nothing. She could have resigned if Patel didn't do anything after she voiced any concerns, but her 'career' was more important to her. Collective responsibility means she is equally guilty of inaction to protect children
@ collective irresponsibility more like. Everyone agreeing that everything was someone else’s job and as a result the job never gets done - like I think we’ve worked in offices where this was the attitude and that always ended up being a nightmare, and this is how they run a country like. so there was this period in my life when i kept attracting the wrong people, wrong opportunities, everything just felt…off. i couldn’t figure out why it kept happening. then one day, a friend mentioned a book called Vibrations of Manifestation by Alex Lane, saying it helped them see the patterns they didn’t even realize they had. i decided to give it a read, and wow, it opened my eyes to how much my own energy was shaping my life. seriously, this book is something else.
Not a single police officer or social worker has been sacked for covering up the grooming gangs scandal and not reporting crimes they were made aware of...that's why a national inquiry is required and those people need to be exposed
3:02 blaming an incoming government for previous failure is beyond the pale and proves contempt for victims on all sides… #exploitation is what it is no doubt however this is not how you resolve matter - it just proves how weak Starmer et al were in opposition so mud all round… can we do some dealing with the matter?
Badanoch should just acknowledge the tories failings and her regrets but put it to the PM that a full public enquiry is required now. So much information was suppressed due to the offenders being of a certain ethnic minority. The truth needs to be sought and brought to the surface. And Starmer would get massive credit if he actually tells his MPs to vote for one!!
But at the same time she should not be trying to sabotage the bill to protect children. That's not a good look. Ask for the enquiry AFTER the bill gets Royal Assent. But that wouldn't play well with the Daily Heil and Reform
We continue to find it amusing how this channel and the channel of the Conservative party continue to have the exact same title for their PMQ’s video - just swapping around Starmer and Badenoch!
Delaying things for ANOTHER enquiry is ridiculous. There are recommendations from the previous enquiry, put them into law and then go from there FFS. I'd make the Tories pay back all their salaries all 14 years of them , 14 years every tory MP for what did we get ???? Leave them with a massive debt every one of them , they broke the public contract to serve the people not delay and bluster putting girls in danger
Badenough is really out of her depth.
Totally hopeless and is unable to plant the blow that causes the PM to squirm. She won't be tory leader for long. Starmer dealt with her easily and genuinely wants the tories to stop playing politics and support the bill. If they follow the whip then they will just be exposed for being the nasty party yet again.

If you're inept and unable to deliver, fine, BUT don't stand in the way of someone else trying to do the right thing.
It will go through because Labour have the majority but I hope people in the Conservative Party show how many principles they have left.
Why are the Tories acting like they haven’t been in power for 14 years?

@@thepepper191 Well, we can agree to disagree on this. The point is that the issue of CSE of this type has been going on since at least the 1980's and that each successive government has done nothing about it. I'm not shilling for the Tories but my opinion is that the only reason Labour have suddenly addressed this issue is because they were being criticised by Elon Musk. To my knowledge it wasn't one of their policy proposals prior to the election. If at the start of his premiership Starmer had announced "we're going to do what the tories couldn't on the issue of R gangs" then I'd have more respect for his government. Honestly, I think this whole discussion is a distraction and a way not to address an issue that's needed addressing for decades. To me this is not about labour and conservative it's about vulnerable children and a culture of political inaction on both sides.

I wasn’t sure about Starmer as I’m left leaning and didn’t like the way he pivoted right after what happened to Jeremy but Iv gotta admit, he seems to want/do his best for the country and has got a lot better at PMQs. The thought of the Tories getting back in or even worse reform is too dark to mention
Hmmm…
I would vote for tories because im not a fan of starmer but with kemi at the head that patty looks shambolic and i’d never cote flr farage so I guess the only option is starmer
In same position. Tories and reform cannot be trusted not to transfer wealth to their friends and investors. Trouble is labour MPs being openly financed by private health companies makes my blood boil. Starmer is a good speaker in parliament, but the way left leaning Candidates have been picked apart under Mcsweeney's Influence makes me puke. Starmer didn't spend a minute to discuss Faizah Shaheen getting kicked off the local vote for liking a John Stewart post.

Torys are good at enquireies as a way of stalling any actions.
Badenoch reminds me of when Tommy Robinson nearly collapsed a trial through self aggrandisement in that she's using this to gain political capitol whilst blocking real change.
It won't look good when the media report the bill to protect children and say *** (insert number) Tories voted against.
Even worse, if they say ** Tories defied Kemi BadEnoch and voted in favour of the bill.
It's sad that a world where grandstanding an issue gains more capital, than actually making the sweeping changes you're espousing would. Ludicrous.

This all seems like an act to sow division and scapegoat.
I dare say she would call me a racist if I spoke my mind to her but I wouldn't care.
In my opinion, far bigger reasons were misogyny and classism: the police didn't care much about people they saw as "low-class girls".
Even though Labour is not doing so well by any account, we are cheered up thinking how infinitely worse if the Tories had been still in power

I don't think so. They may be shouting the loudest - but those who do don't last that long in politics. They're fighting like cats in a sack 5 years before an election!! Farage was humiliated by Musk after years spent sucking up to him. Not exactly a great week for him
Wrong there. Musk cr*pped on Fartage from a great height. Starlink orbit, in fact.
Musk, in turn, has been slapped down by the President of Brazil, President of Panama, the German Chancellor and Sir Keir Starmer. His businesses are failing, droves of cancellations of Cybertruck orders, people still leaving TwitteX, and no one is going to trust Grok except Diaper Donny, and he's slapped Felon down, too.
National Inquiries are official procrastination - nothing more, nothing less. One has only to see what has happened in the Contaminated Blood business and the Post Office Scandal to name but two of many to see that they are ways of putting off doing anything apart from lining the pockets of those conducting those inquiries.

I don't like Kemi, but I wonder if her quiet tone is due to the "angry black woman" trope/ stereotype that so many black women have to deal with. Black women are judged more harshly than any other ethnicity when they raise their voice, I don't know why but I've seen it happen with my own eyes. A lot of my black friends talk about how it makes them very aware of their volume and tone when speaking, they say they're always having to monitor their own words.

People were scared of being labelled 'racists' so they allowed child predators to continue their abuse???
Either these people don't exist or they didn't have enough evidence to support their beliefs (as the arrests, charges, and convictions of the predators would absolve the accuser of most claims)

I’m not even confident she *did* voice her concerns. She said she “did a couple speeches” but as a cabinet minister you don’t need to do speeches you just need to do phone calls.
And the actual topic isn’t at the forefront of this debate, just pointing fingers at each other as per ! Those poor girls
so there was this period in my life when i kept attracting the wrong people, wrong opportunities, everything just felt…off. i couldn’t figure out why it kept happening. then one day, a friend mentioned a book called Vibrations of Manifestation by Alex Lane, saying it helped them see the patterns they didn’t even realize they had. i decided to give it a read, and wow, it opened my eyes to how much my own energy was shaping my life. seriously, this book is something else.
This is democracy in practice, not what we have in Nigeria
Not a single police officer or social worker has been sacked for covering up the grooming gangs scandal and not reporting crimes they were made aware of...that's why a national inquiry is required and those people need to be exposed
when are these tories going to be locked up
3:02 blaming an incoming government for previous failure is beyond the pale and proves contempt for victims on all sides… #exploitation is what it is no doubt however this is not how you resolve matter - it just proves how weak Starmer et al were in opposition so mud all round… can we do some dealing with the matter?
Why cant they do both? Action and enquiry?
Badanoch should just acknowledge the tories failings and her regrets but put it to the PM that a full public enquiry is required now. So much information was suppressed due to the offenders being of a certain ethnic minority. The truth needs to be sought and brought to the surface. And Starmer would get massive credit if he actually tells his MPs to vote for one!!
The reality is that there are more white abuse than ethnic minority abuse and that is why the tories didn't act!
The Tories can’t admit that ……. It would admit they are incompetent and should never be in power again
That would totally screw up Farage too. He would have nothing to argue about, unless he wanted to keep things quiet.
But at the same time she should not be trying to sabotage the bill to protect children. That's not a good look.
Ask for the enquiry AFTER the bill gets Royal Assent. But that wouldn't play well with the Daily Heil and Reform
@ I just think if Starmer calls for one then he eliminates all his critics, for which he has many!!
Am I missing something. Why cant we have the bill and an inquiry. Surely both are good?
We continue to find it amusing how this channel and the channel of the Conservative party continue to have the exact same title for their PMQ’s video - just swapping around Starmer and Badenoch!
Delaying things for ANOTHER enquiry is ridiculous. There are recommendations from the previous enquiry, put them into law and then go from there FFS.
Attempting to exploit this for political gain is sick but exactly what you'd expect from the Conservatives. It happened under their watch, they did nothing about it until they were in opposition...
2:10 so it is true victims are calling for further investigation but the government position is no. This is all I need to know really??
Victims are also calling for action rather than another enquiry, which victims wishes should be listened to?
@ I don’t know 🤷♂️ I don’t speak for them - do you? Are you representing these victims? What are the downsides to an investigation?? Why would one be against such a thing?? Because they have colleagues implicated one would presume - so you are suggesting not investigate is that right? Look I watch the news a lot and most of this is unknown and it’s been left to fascists to make it a story - this is how utterly non-existent a “left” we have there is no opposition…. No one is advocating for these victims both sides are scoring points - to be honest looks like that’s what you’ve writing to me for? What you asking me this for? I’m not a victim of this crime what I want is not high priority…but I imagine service users would like some reassurance given the state of services - this is huge scandal next to no action….you are fine with it is that right?? Defend the reds no matter who it hurts….
@munchuriancandidate you said that some victims want another enquiry, I was simply letting you know that other victims don't want to wait that long for action to be taken. I don't know why you're so hostile about that fact being pointed out to you.
The last enquiry took 7 years and cost just shy of £200m to complete, the recommendations from that report haven't been implemented yet, that's what Labour is doing now.
