  • In this quick video I ramble about how to make a pomade! Which means to catch scent in fat! This method i used mainly for blooms such as Lilacs who's scents cant be extracted with the simple tincturing method!
    Also haha that little dreadlock sticking off the the side of my head like a deer antler was not known about until after i made the video LOL. Maybe i was channeling the bucks energy from the tallow ;)

    I had to laugh at the part at the bottom of your description talking about the dreadlock. At first I found it distracting, but because I am a hair twister I can not say a thing. When I am reading or trying to figure something out I grab that hair and twist. I sense something very sweet and genuine about you. Thanks for a great video and the message that we can make our own Medicines. ✌🏻❤

      For this particular method (cold enfleurage), you can use jasmine, tuberose, lilies, alyssum, chrysanthemum, frangipani, violet, Noem Noem and jonquil. I heard that roses are also possible to use but generally isn't extracted via enfleurage because it can be extracted using another method.

I make my own soaps and would love to capture some scent from the roses, without buying rose E.O. Or, any other good flowers to use with tallow, and would the scent transfer to a soap, if it was the main "oil" in the soap? Unfortunately, I live in a desert...where I grow roses : ) Any other scented flowers you can think of for the desert?

I already collected some resin and needles and made balm and was going to make syrup..Now your comment inspired me to try enfleurage, also. Maybe we can try with young spruce needles and cut them on smaller pieces so to release smell and some of resin. Also young cones can be used i think, and resin. Oh, so many possibilities! :)

    Hi April, We have just had lilac season and I remembered your video about infused oils. I am drying the flowers so they can be infused in avocado oil (as you'd recommended). Here you are using fresh petals. Is that because if you dry them the scent oil goes away? The water vs. fat is a problem in doing this.

    • @sheisofthewoods
      @sheisofthewoods  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You might catch a very small amount of the scent drying them to make an infused oil but even if you don't get much of the scent it will still be fantastic for skin health 😊

    I have a idea for super strick if one have a casserole dish with a lid, one could turn the lid upside down on top of it OR maybe a piece of foil (if that foil don't tank the chemicals of the scent) then wrap it tightly with the Surround wrap. Just a thought.
    I never heard of doing this before. I wished I knew this when my Dad was still a live and was deer hunting in his younger years I sure would have gotten some of the fat that he made into lord. Rats. Now I don't know anyone I could get some of that found. To me deer fat smell lighter than cow fat.
    Also can make scented candles from the tallow candles like the old history. I should have thought of that.

      You are definitely that smart! It's simply that we've removed ourself from things like touching animal fats on a regular basis so we just have to remember😊 most high-quality Tallow simply comes in a tub or a bag and is pretty soft to work with definitely softer than coconut oil you would simply melt it down like I talked about in the video once it cools put your lilac blooms over top and press it down. This is in fact the only way to catch the smell of lilac! It's like she actually craves to be with the fat!

  • @isabelladavis1363
    @isabelladavis1363 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Why SO MUCH tallow thought you should use just a very small thin layer that would intensify with daily fresh flowers application...lilacs loose their scent once removed from the flower raceme...the Saran Wrap I understand but you still need a very small area to allow moisture to escape so you don’t end up with all of that Hard work and then allow spoilage To ruin your product...

    • @sheisofthewoods
      @sheisofthewoods  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Actually the opposite happens, with only small amounts of tallow you quickly hit a saturation point where you can't absorb anymore scent. So a thin layer will only result in wasted blooms & lost opportunity for scent.

    Can we use ghee?

      You could try but the thing that's handy with lard or tallow is that it tends to be a little bit more solid at room temperature, whereas ghee is a little bit more liquidy.
