    I love the scientific accuracy of this game. Why I choose ED over NMS or Star Citizen.

      I didn't particularly choose Elite over other games. I got it because it's right up my alley and looks amazing. Very glad I found it on Steam well over a year ago and that I got the lifetime expansion pass last year when Horizons was first announced.
      I might pick up NMS when it's appropriately priced around 20 USD on Steam. I'm not interested in supporting SC and their ship DLC business model.

    • @BernardVisagie
      @BernardVisagie 8 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I also choose a completed game over a game (Star Citizen) which is nowhere near completed. I do think if Star Citizen is ever completed it will be more fun. (I am a backer so am also biased)

    • @Alex-gc2vo
      @Alex-gc2vo 8 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I agree as they currently stand Star Citizen looks like it would be more fun, but at this rate by the time it's finnished Elite will have added all the additional features Star Citizen has. it seems like they both started at different ends of the process and will likely meet somewhere in the middle. Elite started with a basic, playable simulation game. Star Citizen started with a bunch of fancy artwork and small unconnected demo games.

    • @TemalCageman
      @TemalCageman 8 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      To be fair... Elite Dangerous is also far from completed, however, it is a working, "full" game.

      NMS & ED are pretty much the same thing. ED actually has MP in that you can actually interact with other players but the game at the moment is a mindless grind. Braben is talking about < 1% of the ED galaxy being explored - part of the reason is that there's no incentive for people to explore.

    • @Maxifli123

  • @GameSpin
    @GameSpin 8 ปีที่แล้ว +15

    Scientific accuracy is VERY important to me. Without it, exploring a game world this vast and empty would be an exercise in tedium. Knowing that the simulation strives to be accurate, makes me feel that I am actually exploring a probable model of the actual galaxy that people will really explore thousands of years from now and well beyond my life time.
    Once Elite Dangerous becomes nothing more than a game, I will lose my interest. But, as it stands now, and improves over time, there's nothing else I would rather put my VR headset on for. And, in fact, my back log of games that haven't been played continues to grow because I always choose to spend my limited time in Braben's vision of our galaxy.
    That being said, a big thank you to David Braben, his exceptional team, and the wonderful Elite Dangerous community.
    ~ CMDR Boyan

    • @SaoGage
      @SaoGage 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's funny, No Man's Sky is literally a space game without any physics at all. There are even floating islands on some of the planets that make no sense whatsoever.

    • @87Sakiel

      HO man spilled all over the place. Thats the fucking joke of the year there.

    • @tyorca5854
      @tyorca5854 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      +Good Apollo Yeah, and when you destroy the resources you can create floating piles of resources. Also why are there like multiple moons orbiting clearly within the planet's Roche limits?

    • @Tr33fiddy
      @Tr33fiddy 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Good Apollo to be fair to Hello Games, I liked the idea of floating islands which is present in science fiction literature and films (Avatar). But the actual game just has no physical realism whatsoever.
      I heard an interview with Murray where he said something like 'no game has ever had a true day and night cycle' where the star changes position causing the cycle.
      Makes you wonder if he'd even heard of Elite Dangerous.
      In other news; so happy to see that rare objects like neutron stars are going to get an upgrade. Now if they could just make your hyperspace exit be a constant distance from the primary star regardless of size, I'd be a very happy CMDR...

    I love Elite not only for its dedication to staying true to science and what we know about space, but also the quality of which it's made. Terrain being generated based on tectonic plate behaviour is incredible, it blows my mind every time how organic the terrain looks and how smooth the transition is.
    I've always been very interested in volcanoes and cryo-volcanoes in particular. Hearing them being mentioned in one of your first few videos had me super excited and to hear that it's (apparently?) due to arrive with 2.2... Oh boy...
    Any news on the gas giants which were hinted in the procedural generation video a long time ago?
    It makes me wonder, what are the plans on other interstellar phenomena? Accretion disks for black holes? Quasars? Though I doubt quasars would be very representable due to their luminosity... :P
    Please do more of these science and also development videos with Braben, he's so easy to listen to and you can tell he's really excited.

    I apologize for sometimes being too criticizing, or just a spoiled prat in general, but it's all because I love Elite, it is my favorite and most frustrating game ever made. Frustrating, because I can see how amazing this game can become.
    And if you take Elite for what it is and don't compare to others (EVE, SC, etc), it is an amazing experience that nobody can match at the moment. David should do the things he wants to do, don't cave in to fanbase requests of making the game easier/faster and make the game that you envision.
    These kind of videos talking about Elite's future should be more frequent, it really re-inspires people to play and just be patient for upcoming great content.
    Thanks and good luck.

    I was already planning on jumping back in Elite. I was a premium backer back in the day and played around with it here and there but then lost access to my DK2 and I just love playing this game in VR. I have my CV1 now though so I have been wanting to jump back in but had sold my joystick..just got my new one this morning. However had I not really been planning it I would have after seeing his passion for his project in this video. I already knew about that, but seeing it in these videos is always inspiring. Tried out NMS but way to arcadey and fair or not I kept comparing it to this game and all that you can do in this game. 400 billion systems is more than enough, especially when 18 quintillion planets are so far pumping out so many like planets that I was bored inside of 8 hours. Not knocking NMS, just not for me, but I know others love it. With Elite out there though and SC on the horizon there is just superior options. So coming back and excited about it.

    There are many things wrong with ED, and that is to be expected so early in its days from Beta. One of the reasons why I chose ED and have stuck through the hardships of the game is because of how passionate, how much passion David Braben shows for his body of work. Elite Dangerous is this mans life work and you can see how much he cares for it every time to see him talk about it. This is why I choose to play ED. I agree, many of us do like the science of it all. So keep making that science come alive for us in ED David. Thank you for your passion.

    I love this game, and i love combat and stuff...but the best part is the fact this game is REALISTIC! please keep up this side, is a major point for ED. And i'm here sitting in my corvette and yes, i want the atmosphere so much but only if it's made in the proper realistic way! Keep it up guys and don't worry about the negative rewiews on Elite Dangerous, is a farm party, yes,. but is also a amazing game where you can't buy the stuff (like a corvette for example) for extra 49.99£. Keep it up!

    Science accuracy is massively important in a space sim. First 5 hours of Elite and I spent trying to work out where missing planets and stars were based on the gravitational effects on the ones I had the orbits for. I was shooting mushrooms in NMS. If you dont go for science you might as well add light-sabres and the force. NMS desperately needed more fantasy elements to pad the game out because you know that while it might be very pretty theres very little science there to provide the immersion.
    I got over 200 hours out of elites science and still play it off and on just due to the immersion you get from it..

    • @MythicSuns

      I still hate the fact that Hello Games removed planetary rotation because of gamers complaining about disorientation. I'll happily take minor disorientation over having a torch that spins around a star system any day

  • @maxulic
    @maxulic 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    1:35 How is this going to translate for us when jumping to these systems? Is it going to be a roll of dice to know if we are going to make it safe, since electromagnetic fields will add a new hazard putting a strain on our FSD? Currently the only danger is heat but you can easily avoid it ("full stop" during the jump, making a 180° turn from the star to put some distance) so it is only dangerous if you decide to go closer. With the added electromagnetic fields do we face the possibility of being directly in danger as soon as we finish the jump? If so, do we have a way to predict what kind of danger these stars will pose before jumping (kinda like we can scan a planet to check the gravity and make an educated decision if it is safe to land or not)?

    Kudos Braben. The science is the best part as you said. I have learned much and still discovering the scientific connections. It certainly appeals to me, a 63 year old man with lots of interests. Younger people would like just the game but the science will be compelling to a completely different type of adult user. Until you see the views and know something of the science it is hard to explain - playing will get you hooked. Where else except NASA like training can you get this experience. Best game ever for me. Signing off for now. Big_DSH

    I am going to buy this game, which package should I buy from steam? Should I get the one that is $59.99? I only want to play single player, not interested in PvP, but I would like to battle NPC ships.

    • @argebarse
      @argebarse 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      no, the Interstellar black hole was very realistically modeled with the exception of the 5th dimensional stuff. the accretion disc and gravitational lensing look 100% accurate.

      Yes this game has black holes, they are so lack luster, hence my comment. At least make them look interesting. I would have been gutted if I was the first guy to Sag A, the monster of our galaxy and saw a little distortion in the lens...

      they are to rare to be practical to put in, although it would be interesting to outrun the blast of one since we can travel faster then light
      but on other hand it would be wierd, because if we pull away from explosion faster then light then the explosion should reverse in time from our perspective.

    So what is about landing on planets with atmosphere?

  • @JuanPerez-co9nd
    @JuanPerez-co9nd 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    scientific accuracy really matters to me and many many others David!! need one combobox in the options to select:
    ARCADE (rookie)
    NORMAL (not a sim player and casual players)
    SIMULATION (to those who wants scientific accuracy)
    It doesn't mean that the FTL or HC should not exists in the game, Im talking about sound travel in space, real dynamic in zero gravity, etc

  • @AurelTristen
    @AurelTristen 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    I know publishers and investers often think (or seem to think) that scientific accuracy doesn't equate to sales, but I'll say that I bought into the Beta early on specifically because of that scientific focus. I know it isn't perfect (FTL, no time dilation, ect), but I've never heard of a space game adding planets to the in-game universe as they are discovered in real life. Or updating the imagery of a planet when a real life probe provides new data. That's just awesome, and worth my investment.

    scientific accuracy matters !! you are sooo right. and i am really happy to hear it ! maybe you guys could make a new kind of videos( short ones ) like " science in elite dangerous " talking about all these details that most players ignore about this game. it would be a really nice idea. Cant wait for the new neutron stars =^_^=. by the way , about science accuracy , i have been having some fun recently by calculating masses of planets ( in real life ) and i have been wondering if elite was acurate about it , so i did some work on it and well...its nearly good , for exemple i calculated the mass of Marrallang B10 using its satellite : marrallang b 10 f . and i have found about 1.650x10 (27) kg , but in elite it is 1.01x10(27) , so how does masses are calculated in elite ? its just a details but i m curious :) keep up the good work guys =^_^=

    Scientific accuracy matters to us very much Braben! We are exploring our own fucking real galaxy that we actually live in and it's amazing. I love finding some crazy thing and then finding out it's something I haven't ever heard of that actually exists IRL (like Ghost of Jupiter).
