This song just perfectly captures the spirit of Asoiaf. Bloody, dark, sexual, stupid but with a hint of romanticism and resilience coming through all the same.
The song is supposed to be light hearted to the fullest, poking fun at polyamerous relations which the dornish practiced very commonly, but lighthearted in nature. This cover missed the point entirely, taking it too seriously trying to edgelord the vibe 🤣
The Dornishman's wife was as fair as the sun, and her kisses were warmer than spring. But the Dornishman's blade was made of black steel, and its kiss was a terrible thing. The Dornishman's wife would sing as she bathed, in a voice that was sweet as a peach, But the Dornishman's blade had a song of its own, and a bite sharp and cold as a leech. As he lay on the ground with the darkness around, and the taste of his blood on his tongue, His brothers knelt by him and prayed him a prayer, and he smiled and he laughed and he sung, "Brothers, oh brothers, my days here are done, the Dornishman's taken my life, But what does it matter, for all men must die, and I've tasted the Dornishman's wife!"

Thank you so much, what a beautiful compliment. I'm recording "The Last of The Giants" right now and I can promise you as long as I have vocal health and air in my lungs I'll be singing till the day I skid into my grave. My life is all about music, it's my greatest love. I'm so glad you like my songs, thanks so much for listening to me. x
Thank you so much, i'm glad you liked my rather stylized take on the song. I think the drum beat adds an an energy to my performance that I don't think would have been there otherwise, a kind of sexy, lustful energy. I had a lot of fun. :-)
That line was the BEST line to sing, I absolutely love it. I love it so much I kinda want it tattoo'd on my arm. I know a lot of people like "meaningful" words and quotes when it comes to tattoo's, but this one would make me smile every time I read it - what's not to love about that. :-)
''But what does it matter for all men must die And I tasted the Dornishman's Wife' That part gave me goosebumps. You. Are. Amazing! I really, really, really wish your music could be on the show.
It was four if not three years ago! When i was reading one of GRRM's books and in a scene were Jon Snow got into the wilding'camp and found the king beyond the wall was singing this song💯✨️I searched it up and I have never stopped listening to your music since ♥️you surely are the last of the bards
Just came back for probably the third time today to listen to this. I am absolutely fascinated. I really feel you captured the feel of the GoT world so well in all of your songs, so happy I stumbled upon your channel!
This is starting to get dangerous.... I've been Playing Lament for Boromir and Smaug's song on a loop since yesterday when I´first found your page and I got the feeling this is gonna be on the loop too....My neighbours is gonna hate my guts x') Totally worth it though, your voice is magical
The best rendition of this song I've yet found; epic, melancholy but with a sensual undercurrent running through it, punctuated by the deep beat. Brilliant.
Magnificent! Thank you Karliene! Lyrics: The Dornishman's wife was as fair as the sun, and her kisses were warmer than spring. But the Dornishman's blade was made of black steel, and its kiss was a terrible thing. very powerful. i love the overlapping of the different sounds, your pronunciation gives this song a perfect edge and your voice rounds everything perfectly. to sum it up i simply love your interpretation.
Well, now I am going to go buy your songs. Your voice kind of reminds me of Dolly Parton. You are an amazing singer and your songs, Wow just don't stop please.
As I said before, this song could have been a very great i mean GREAT background music to the Oberyn vs. Gregor duel for the show.... The Red Viper is the number one reason to me, why I am so excited for the 4th season of GoT! And I'm sure, that someone will make a good fan-video using his sceens with this song (if you will let him/her use it, of course...)!
May be the second time I've ever commented on a video, but this song should definitely be used @ the end of episode eight of season four on Game of Thrones this season. I would love this rendition to play out the episode in fact... That's just wishful though. I just hope they use the damn song! WE'VE ALL HEARD RAINS OF CASTAMERE, SHOW GUYS. This is absolutely incredible, Karliene... I sing it out loud in public often simply because of your rendition.
I've been listening to this for DAYS! I'd love to use it to choreograph a Dornish-inspired dance, would you be all right with this? You're an inspiration and I can't get this song out of my head.
She owns the rights to the performance. That's why covers are a thing, or why an orchestral performance of something by Mozart is still copyrighted, even though Mozart's works are in the public domain. Karliene's a nice girl - with a fantastic voice - who gave permission so the point is kind of mote, though.
Came here from your reaction video for the red wedding episode. You don't deserve a youtube video, you deserve your own show on national tv. Keep doing such great stuff.
Aww, dear, your songs are so beautiful, they always bring joy to my heart. I listen to them all the time while drawing, they greatly inspire me! I adore your beautiful voice and versions of the songs, can't stop listening!
I just came here once again to listen to this perfect piece of art. Just watched The Mountain VS The Viper and I was hoping this would play in the end. Unfortunately it didn't :'(
"What is our heart’s desire?" "Vengeance." His voice was soft, as if he were afraid that someone might be listening. "Justice." Prince Doran pressed the onyx dragon into her palm and whispered, "Fire and blood."
............. Holy moley. I mean, I liked that song when Bronn sang it on Game of Thrones, but that it could turn into.... *that*, I couldn't have seen in a million years. Wow. Hand on my heart, that was one of the most beautiful songs I've heard all year. Truly, thank you for making this.
I have to say as a HUGE GoT fan, as are most folks these days, I am very much in love with this rendition of an extremely appropriate and whitty song from the actual GoT works. Karliene did an amazing job of extending the score and creating a heartfelt composition. Thank you very much for this.
I love that you write songs that either history or fantasy driven. It makes the song that much more enchanting and riveting. Very cool. You have a wonderful voice and great melodies in your music. Fantastic balance on everything!!!
Have you ever considered covering "hoist the colours" from pirates of the Carribean? There isn't a great cover of it out there that I've been able to find.
Thank you, all my songs are currently available to download from my website karliene.com ( free of charge ) so take what you like. :-) I'm currently writing and recording my first original album which I hope to launch on itunes in the next few months so nothing new yet, but it will be worth it.
Origin I don't think it would be appropriate straight after his brutal death regardless of who got the last laugh. Now there has been time to mourn and the fact that the sixth episode of the new series is called Unbowed, Unbent Unbroken. I think there would be no better time to feature this song than then.
Honestly you nailed this beyond beautifully. Your passion shows through your singing with such strength. I am a lover of the books from which this song came and i feel you have done it great honor in the way you have sung it. Truly you have a spectacular voice.
Lyanna Stark died during Robert's rebellion so we're unlikely to see her in the books or show unless George R.R. Martin wrights a prequel (which would be awesome!).
I can't really describe it, but the way you sing this song (and especially the part I tasted the Dornishman's wife) is just so full of energy and life, truly amazing!
I was always kinda mad that Jamie cut Bronn off. Just like how everyone was mad when Tyrion was cut off about the one with the jackass and the honeycomb.
I love this version of yours! I've been listening to it many times... I think it is the only one on youtube that gives Martin's song the right meaning and you can taste "dornian air"... ^-^ Love it!
Her version is good, but that second verse I cant help but throw it to the bro, bronn. His rendition in the cell next to the sand snakes takes the cake!
Megha Bhattacharyya yea especially since he was/is technically a professional musician/singer, it totally could be done. Id be happy with just this song and rains of castamere from Bronn/jerome Flynn.
I think i played this song over 50 times the last months , it's just so great , my girlfriend actually says i destroyed it by playing it so often but I even love it more then the first time i heard it. Keep up the good songs/covers and you have an amazing voice :)
+Miroslav Tordaji Bronn is the best, dude xD I listened to lots of people who tried to sing it on their ways, but none of them was like Bronn... That's my opinion
Checked a few covers of this song; nothing even comes close to Bronn. Unfortunately the fooking Kingslayer stops him but Bronn sings like 2 - 3 lines. You can sing the rest of the song by yourself in the same tone and composition throughout if you like his version best. The verses are written in the same manner so it just goes with the flow. After that, when you reach the Brothers oh brothers part, just burst into the same tone Bronn does and finish the song on a high note. *Brrothers o brrothers my days here are doune. The Dorrrnishman's taken my laaaiiif! Buut watdoes itmaater for all men must die and I've tasted the dornishman's wife...I haaave... i've tasted the dornishman's wife.*
+Darth Strakh lol The lyrics are about taking a woman's kiss without permission and being killed by her husband for it? Nothing light-hearted about it. ;)
+Hydiest Faith The lyrics are about a guy who didn´t care that the dornishman killed him for it, because he thought stealing his wife was totally worth it. It´s really just a bawdy tavern song, originally. XD
Now that was the sweetest comment in the world, Jamie, you're quite a darling under all that armor aren't you. Thank you so much my lovely, i'm so touched you like my work. X
life is sometime very weird I've found this song as a link in completely offtopic comment on site where ppl make subtittles in my language for interesing videos of all sorts... and I love it... keep up the great job
I'm utterly ignorant of studio work so can anybody explain to me why the pros wear headphone when they record songs? What do they listen to? Thank you.
The headphones are simply playing the instrumentals. If they would play the instrumentals on speakers, then the mic would also record them and would result in very unpure quality of the vocals, plus you'll get feedback if the speakers are too close to the mic (that typical high screeching noise)
I don't like this version. In my head The Dornishman's Wife is a very happy and joyful song, a song you sing in taverns and such. But this was just very "sinister and darkly primal" as you said yourself.
Its like that because if you notice the arrangement is heavily Celtic as is her voice (Celtic arrangements normally have darker tones in terms of note arrangement and tempo which is what makes Celtic music so beautiful sounding because of its fantasy influenced sound structure it makes you imagine walking the emerald isle and it's forests) Celtic music in itself is Primal but can be beautiful all at once
i absolutely love your music! this one is now one of the top three i like from you. please dont stop singing and making videos. your voice is amazing and the instrumental music works so well with it too.
Bronn needs to make a mixed tape of all the Westeros classics
Jon Baxter all 3 of them
Jon Baxter a duet maybe?
All I know is The 'Rains of Castamere' and 'The Dornishman's Wife'. What's the other one?
Jozef Wicks-Sharp The song of the seven, the bear and the maiden faire.
+Chris Lucas And I am the last of the giants
This song just perfectly captures the spirit of Asoiaf. Bloody, dark, sexual, stupid but with a hint of romanticism and resilience coming through all the same.

Ah, sweet Oberyn. I'm gonna miss him.
Good night, sweet Prince :D
I am going to miss SER GREGOR 'THE MOUNTAIN' CLEGANE. (sobbs).

This song sounds really lusty, and it also has the dark, somber atmosphere, which says that all men must die. Nicely done!
yes
Thank you so much, what a beautiful compliment. I'm recording "The Last of The Giants" right now and I can promise you as long as I have vocal health and air in my lungs I'll be singing till the day I skid into my grave. How can we not lol my husband knew your husband from walmart... so here I am ❤ I love your music and taste.
Ive listened to this song for a decade now....its awesome but your fabulous. Thank u.
Thank you so much, i'm glad you liked my rather stylized take on the song. I think the drum beat adds an an energy to my performance that I don't think would have been there otherwise, a kind of sexy, lustful energy. I had a lot of fun. :-)
What a beautiful voice, i can`t understand why only 1.2 million were blessed to listen this song, you deserve much more!!
That line was the BEST line to sing, I absolutely love it. I love it so much I kinda want it tattoo'd on my arm. I know a lot of people like "meaningful" words and quotes when it comes to tattoo's, but this one would make me smile every time I read it - what's not to love about that. :-)
An hour, wow, well thank you so much for hanging out and listening to my songs. It means so much to me. xx
''But what does it matter for all men must die

That part gave me goosebumps. You. Are. Amazing! I really, really, really wish your music could be on the show.
I'm so happy you liked it!
It's always so lovely when people enjoy my little tunes. Makes my day every time. x
Anyone else picture Mance Rayder singing this in his tent as Jon Snow is brought in by Rattleshirt and Ygritte?
Yesss
oh yesssss
this is what brought me here XD
"Kiss was a terrible thing"
How did Myrcella get infected with poison again?
Good catch
19EHF didn't happen in the books.
Jonric Storm So Myrcella is alive in the books or she died in different way?
ProudMKDotaPlayer she still alive in the books
+ProudMKDotaPlayer she's alive in the books like 19EHF said. None of the Jaime scenes in the show happened in the books.
"Doesn't matter, had sex"
but what's the probabilty that you have a sword in your basement and you've gotten laid before

Why can't I like this more then once!? A voice as soft as an Autumn breeze, and a song as sweet as a nights respite...
This is still my favourite Karliene song ever!!
for 6 years I have come back here to listen to this from time to time. 2021 its still sharp as a knife as she sings it.
This is starting to get dangerous.... I've been Playing Lament for Boromir and Smaug's song on a loop since yesterday when I´first found your page and I got the feeling this is gonna be on the loop too....My neighbours is gonna hate my guts x') Totally worth it though, your voice is magical
Rem Runa I’m sorry you live near GoT heathens
The best rendition of this song I've yet found; epic, melancholy but with a sensual undercurrent running through it, punctuated by the deep beat. Brilliant.

Perfection. #PrinceOberynMartell
I'm so glad you like it, this song has become a personal favourite of mine. I just love singing it so much. :-)

I've been listening to this for DAYS! I'd love to use it to choreograph a Dornish-inspired dance, would you be all right with this? You're an inspiration and I can't get this song out of my head.
Of course, I'd be thrilled!
Any chance you might film it because I'd absolutely love to see it. :-)
Absolutely, I'm in the midst of planning. Thanks so much for letting me use what is to me by far the loveliest rendition of this piece :)
Karliene OMG today i listened you for the first time im in love with your voice keep the good work!!!
she Doesn't own the rights to the song I am pretty sure you can use it
She owns the rights to the performance. That's why covers are a thing, or why an orchestral performance of something by Mozart is still copyrighted, even though Mozart's works are in the public domain.
Karliene's a nice girl - with a fantastic voice - who gave permission so the point is kind of mote, though.
Aww thanks so much for coming by. I'm thrilled you discovered me and that you like my music. It makes me so happy. :-)
This needs to appear next season. Awesome
I love videos like this because you can see just how into the music a singer can get
I just came here once again to listen to this perfect piece of art. Just watched The Mountain VS The Viper and I was hoping this would play in the end. Unfortunately it didn't :'(
Its sounds too happy :p
I think it would go well as a Vengeance. Justice. Fire and Blood episode ending.
"What is our heart’s desire?"
"Vengeance." His voice was soft, as if he were afraid that someone might be listening. "Justice." Prince Doran pressed the onyx dragon into her palm and whispered, "Fire and blood."
Madelyn Latham Definitely one of my favourite parts of a feast for crows!
Beautiful! Love your songs! A perfect soundtrack for the legendary series!
Everyone: Bronn!!!!
Me: Mance was singing this when he and Jon first met
wow! I didn't remember
@@MarcoMartell It's in the book, not in the series.
I think that there isn't any song on this world that I have listend so many times like this one. I love it, it's one of my favourites!
I had to laugh there. :-)
Captain Kill Joy Wtf is wrong with you?
Beautifully done . The Poetry of Music is a story much appreciated when I listen to your vocals Karliene.
GRRM COMMENTED ON THIS??? OMG, He might use your songs for the show!!! I hope they do! I really hope so, you're my idol!
France Magadia He did?
Read the description.
Completely addicted to this song at the moment, your music is amazing looking forward to hearing more.
Wow! You sound like young Dolly Parton! So amazing. Absolutely beautiful vocals.
............. Holy moley. I mean, I liked that song when Bronn sang it on Game of Thrones, but that it could turn into.... *that*, I couldn't have seen in a million years. Wow. Hand on my heart, that was one of the most beautiful songs I've heard all year. Truly, thank you for making this.
i started watching these after feeling sad for you after your red wedding reaction vid and now im just jealous, great job! =)
I have to say as a HUGE GoT fan, as are most folks these days, I am very much in love with this rendition of an extremely appropriate and whitty song from the actual GoT works. Karliene did an amazing job of extending the score and creating a heartfelt composition. Thank you very much for this.
spoiler alert ahead: The Dornishman wound up with no eyes and a caved in skull in an attempt to save the Dwarf
SPOILER ALERT hes not the only dornishman
Matt Skinner I knew, just referencing the episode.
same but latter in the books is a another death of a dornishman
Matt Skinner please tell me the dornishman your speaking of has no direct relation to the one i'm speaking of...
umm yep well go with that
I love that you write songs that either history or fantasy driven. It makes the song that much more enchanting and riveting. Very cool. You have a wonderful voice and great melodies in your music. Fantastic balance on everything!!!
This one really is special. You have a Loreena Mckennitt quality going on here.
I absolutely love your music. Thank you for bringing the songs from my favorites to life. You're amazing.
Have you ever considered covering "hoist the colours" from pirates of the Carribean? There isn't a great cover of it out there that I've been able to find.
Thank you, all my songs are currently available to download from my website karliene.com ( free of charge ) so take what you like. :-)
I'm currently writing and recording my first original album which I hope to launch on itunes in the next few months so nothing new yet, but it will be worth it.
My 1,456,765th time listening to your addictive voice sing this and I still can't get enough.💘
Karliene, you bring ASIOF to life.
This is sublime. I adore your voice and the arrangement is perfect. This is by far my favorite version.
Gods I love this song ❤️
Again - made my day!
Can't stop repeating the song!!!
hope to hear the song in the show... :D
This song should've played at the end of the last episode of Oberyns life

Now there has been time to mourn and the fact that the sixth episode of the new series is called Unbowed, Unbent Unbroken. I think there would be no better time to feature this song than then.
Callum Jewell And it very well was :)
Krešimir Koržinek Its a small victory bearing in mind how they have ruined the Dorne/ Martell story line :(
Honestly you nailed this beyond beautifully. Your passion shows through your singing with such strength. I am a lover of the books from which this song came and i feel you have done it great honor in the way you have sung it. Truly you have a spectacular voice.
2019 my dude, this song is epic
I love these harmonies...they're just beyond hypnotising...
It just occurred to me, you'd make a great Lyanna Stark if we ever see her again in the books or the show...
Lyanna Stark died during Robert's rebellion so we're unlikely to see her in the books or show unless George R.R. Martin wrights a prequel (which would be awesome!).
***** That's what I meant, either that or another flashback...
I feel like she would be even more suited to the role of Yennefer, but that's a different story.
I can't really describe it, but the way you sing this song (and especially the part I tasted the Dornishman's wife) is just so full of energy and life, truly amazing!
It's my favorite song of George R. R. Matrin's books. You sing this amazing!!
Karlene, I, had never hear you before, I lve your voice and songs.... you are wonderfull, thank you!!!
Fuck Bronn's version, this is the real melody of this song
By far the best rendition of the song I've ever seen. You have amazing talent.
I was always kinda mad that Jamie cut Bronn off.
Just like how everyone was mad when Tyrion was cut off about the one with the jackass and the honeycomb.
this is 100% what I needed to listen to today. I love your voice.
Can i use this song in an Oberyn tribute
Okay Thank you. I'll send you a link once i finished
Origin Can we see it too :)
Can you send the link of that tribute, it sounds awesome!
Your voice heals all wounds, thank you.
Haha, let me know how that goes down. Glad you like the song. X
I love this version of yours! I've been listening to it many times...
I think it is the only one on youtube that gives Martin's song the right meaning and you can taste "dornian air"... ^-^ Love it!
love her smirk at "i tasted the dornishman's wife"
Thank you dear Karliene for the amazing song. You are so wonderful.
You have a beautiful voice Karliene. I loved your rendition of "Last of the Giants" and I especially enjoyed your version of "The Rains of Castamere".
I love this version. You're voice make me feel something burn inside my heart, So beautiful and powerful.
Her version is good, but that second verse I cant help but throw it to the bro, bronn. His rendition in the cell next to the sand snakes takes the cake!
Jikester82 yeah they should have totally made an album of these ballads. bronn's version had an awesome touch of effortless playfulness
Megha Bhattacharyya yea especially since he was/is technically a professional musician/singer, it totally could be done. Id be happy with just this song and rains of castamere from Bronn/jerome Flynn.

A great Voice and a very sensual Woman meet to create something higher! A gem everybody should know! Enchanting!!!
I can't stop listening to this on repeat. You're voice is so beautiful~
I am sorry......but I like it more when Bronn sings it :)
+Miroslav Tordaji You are not alone bro, me as well ^^

Bronn is the best, dude xD
I listened to lots of people who tried to sing it on their ways, but none of them was like Bronn...

*Brrothers o brrothers my days here are doune. The Dorrrnishman's taken my laaaiiif! Buut watdoes itmaater for all men must die and I've tasted the dornishman's wife...I haaave... i've tasted the dornishman's wife.*
I came here to listen one of your songs and now im stuck here for an hour!!!!! It is incredible, honestly! Thank god ive found your channel!!
My Lord! Hunny you should be doin some country, you remind me of a younger Allison Kraus...now stop singing this before I fall in love.
I love it and the music to it as well.
I love her voice and the music I just think the mood is too serious for as light hearted as the lyrics are.
+Darth Strakh lol The lyrics are about taking a woman's kiss without permission and being killed by her husband for it? Nothing light-hearted about it. ;)
+Hydiest Faith
The lyrics are about a guy who didn´t care that the dornishman killed him for it, because he thought stealing his wife was totally worth it. It´s really just a bawdy tavern song, originally. XD
actually its about the long night and basicly a wight ate the dornishman's wife.
though the long night is more feasiable
@@HydiestFaith it’s Westeros, and that’s supposed to be a drinking song. This tone doesn’t fit at all
@@GudHunterYT96 what are you talking about
Now that was the sweetest comment in the world, Jamie, you're quite a darling under all that armor aren't you. Thank you so much my lovely, i'm so touched you like my work. X
My friends from Sweeney Todd would be perfect for you’re voice
life is sometime very weird
I've found this song as a link in completely offtopic comment on site where ppl make subtittles in my language for interesing videos of all sorts...
and I love it... keep up the great job
TheCoin100 thank you, very informative.
nhất thiên minh nguyễn phạm my pleasure
Your music is always welcome to hear--beautiful job
I don't like this version. In my head The Dornishman's Wife is a very happy and joyful song, a song you sing in taverns and such. But this was just very "sinister and darkly primal" as you said yourself.
Its like that because if you notice the arrangement is heavily Celtic as is her voice (Celtic arrangements normally have darker tones in terms of note arrangement and tempo which is what makes Celtic music so beautiful sounding because of its fantasy influenced sound structure it makes you imagine walking the emerald isle and it's forests) Celtic music in itself is Primal but can be beautiful all at once
i absolutely love your music! this one is now one of the top three i like from you. please dont stop singing and making videos. your voice is amazing and the instrumental music works so well with it too.
can you make a lyric please❤❤
Wow! You are official one of my new favorite artists... I can't wait to listen to all of your songs! :)
