The reason why I love this song and why Lord Manderly is my favorite character in the series. As shown below: "My son Wendel came to the the Twins a guest. He ate Lord Walder's bread and salt, and hung his sword upon the wall to feast with friends. And they murdered him. Murdered, I say, and may the Freys choke upon their fables. Funny how Talisa shows up at the 'cat with a different coat' part of it. In the show, she was given a surname which - in the books - belongs to a Triarch affiliated with Tiger faction. Hence, she is a 'cat with a different coat', i.e a tiger.
Hauntingly beautiful vocals. From a lore perspective, I can imagine this being sang as house lannister inevitably meets the same fate as those Tywin defeated. A harrowing execution song for Cersei as she remembers that wolves have claws too.
You know, it isn't often when I'am compelled to leave a comment on a video from TH-cam, but after listening to this song literately six kagallion times I have to give props where they're due. Karliene Reynolds, your work with this song captures the true tragic nature that this song represents. It's both haunting and beautiful, which any person who has experienced something awful can find themselves connecting to. Thank you for the hard work, and sharing this with the world.
cupcakewilleatu There's actually a reason they changed it - the writers of the show didn't want to give the impression that Jamie Lannister was involved in the Red Wedding.
***** Even going back and reading the book again I find myself saying the line from the show instead. Michael McElhattons terrifying performance is just forever burned into my mind.
I discovered this song almost 12 years ago. When GOT was on everyone's lips, and the show was being aired on HBO, I was immersed in reading the books, trying not to fall in the TV series before I finished those. I remember clearly, that when I read the Red Wedding part, with the cold blooded Walder Frey tearing down one of my favourite characters in the novel, I was impressed, and ran to TH-cam in search of a cover for the song. When I found this, I really felt the despair, grief, and mourn of Cat for the loss of her firstborn. Karliene really adds a fantastic and captivating atmosphere, so this was for me the best cover ever made for The Rains of Castamere. Now, 2024... 12 years have passed, and I have the same feelings about this ❤ Awesome work!
Very beautiful version. Sad and melancholic...I imagine that many years after the events of ASOIAF/GOT, this version will remind the great lords and ladies of Westeros how a Great House can rise above all others...and yet fall down within a few years. Due to incompetence, arrogance and cruelty, plotting and hatred, lack of compassion and lack of family-love or respect...yes, maybe they'll even call it the "Lannister's Lament" thereafter...when the Golden Lion has shared the Red Lion's fate ...
Karliene - I don't know who said that this version sounds too hopeful, but I'm not sure what they're thinking. This version is **perfect**. Your voice is absolutely outstanding - it digs right into the soul ( e.g. Lament for Boromir )
This was the first version of "The Rains of Castamere" I ever heard. I think I found it during season 1 of GoT, before the song had been written for the show. This version still holds a very special place in my heart.

Wonderful you're so inspiring...the original by Nationals is darker and more manly but yours has different approach. I see it as sort of "regret" sadness lament. From point of view of someone who might have been an ally who tried to warn Lord Reyne against rebelling, or maybe someone who took part in slaughter and now on death bed or as they get old, they remember this event not with triumph but sadness. It gives much more depth to the song.

Aww thanks Josh, well i'm glad you liked the singing videos as well. I think some people can be a bit camera shy but luckily i've never had that problem - in real life, i'm extremely shy but I feel comfortable in front of machines, haha. As for "You Win or you Die" - I did write the words, yes. It was a lovely song to create and I'm still very fond of it as it was really the song that kicked everything off for me. :-)
+Saul Dragneel I'd rather lose a hand than have my head cut off and my dead pet's head sewed on in it's place. Let the North remember that. Hear me roar.
This is the best version, the others either have a squeaky voice or sound like the singer's been drinking liquid Draino. Her version sounds more medieval.
***** I love your version much better! The National's version was good but it felt kind of aloof. As if The Lannisters themselves are singing it (which I guess is kind of the point, since it's their victory song). Yours sounds beautiful yet it evokes this overwhelming sense of tragedy and sadness that has befallen on so many people, whether it be House Reyne, The Starks or the rest of the Northerners all because of the Lannisters. It's as if the ghosts of all the Lannister victims are singing it.
You are amazing. I love each and every one of your songs! This is a cannon version of the song to me, the only way I sing it ever since I heard it. Keep doing what you're doing, girl! x

+Karliene hy there! I really liked they way you sang the rains of castamere! have you ever heard of a song called "one tin soldier"? If you haven't seen Game of Thrones or read the books then, first of all, how did you find this video?, second, READ THE BOOKS AND WATCH THE SHOW, and to answer your question, see previous. :)
***** i watched the show already, but i can't find similarity in the song from the series explanation, i mean, who is exactly the cat from the song, and from whom perspective it is sung to whom, and stuff like this :)
***** It's about the destruction of House Reyne (Of Castamere) by House Lannister when the Reynes dared to defy their liege lords. Tywin Lannister, then heir to Casterly Rock, was absolutely ruthless in his repression of the rebellion, and afterwords the song 'The Rains of Castamere' was written about the incident. The title of the song is a play on words, and the lyrics reference the fact that the sigil of House Lannister is a red lion, and the sigil of House Reyne was a gold lion. For more information, see the Game of Thrones wiki or the ASOIAF wiki, which I cannot post links to.

+Karliene I admire your work. I wish I had you for a music teacher in choir! I listen to your music everyday!
You gotta do a song about star wars. PLEEEAAASSSSEEE
I want this to be the song and images they show in the final credits of the series.
how on earth could someone dislike a masterpiece like this!!
My favorite version of the song for sure. It's so haunting, it lingers even after it ends.
this song is about tywin lannister.. not one picture of him.. gg
The song is actually about house Reyne losing their power and being defeated
+Dan Rainbowflappyblue
Defeated by, Who would have guessed, Tywin Lannister.
+Dan Rainbowflappyblue it's honoring tywin eliminating house reyne
Yeh I guess so. Good song nonetheless
Defeated by Tywin Lannister
Let them remember what happens when they march on the south.
Balinux Apparently they get their hands chopped off and die on the toilet :/
+Saul Dragneel Apparently they put spoilers in the comments section.
Jozef Wicks-Sharp Yes, people shouldn't be stupid enough to go and read comments sections of videos if they aren't caught up.
+Saul Dragneel I'd rather lose a hand than have my head cut off and my dead pet's head sewed on in it's place. Let the North remember that. Hear me roar.
Marc Hindley I'd rather die than lose my only reputable trait.
you have a lovely voice.. specially his composition is great.. i listen to this almost everyday before going to bed... it is so pure and pristine..
This is by far one of the most amazing version of this song ☺
Keep up the good work 🙌
You voice is perfect for this song! Keep up the good work! :D
This is the best version, the others either have a squeaky voice or sound like the singer's been drinking liquid Draino. Her version sounds more medieval.
Beautiful song with beautiful voice, more songs like that ;)
My goodness this is absolutely BRILLIANT!
can't seem to be able to stop listening to your beautiful music.
1:27.
"A lion still has it's claws".
Its*
thank you Stannis
yes, I made "Song of Exile" about a year ago. Check it out, it's on my channel in my "music" playlist. :-)
You are amazing. I love each and every one of your songs!
This is a cannon version of the song to me, the only way I sing it ever since I heard it.
Keep doing what you're doing, girl! x
Absolutely wonderful, thank you.
Fantastic cover Karliene :D
Very good video editing. Even I like faster versions of this hymn.
Cruelty, like honor, only gets you so far.
Beautiful, simply beautiful! The video too, like thank you for not just filming yourself singing in the studio (like all the self-induldgent ones on yt) and actually using those great images of the artists and pairing them perfectly on the rainy far shot of Winterfell! Wonderful job!!
Moving and haunting, especially the way the Lannister flag takes over at the end. Another masterpiece, well done Karliene.
And who are you?
the proud lord said...
that i must bow so low?
Only a cat of a different coat..
that's all the truth i know
a coat of gold or a coat of red
a lion still has claws...
and mine are long and sharp my lord
as long and sharp as yours...
and so he spoke and so he spoke
that lord of castamere...
and now the rains weep o'er his hall
with no one there to hear...
and now the rains weep o'er his hall
and not a soul to hear...
~ Rains of Castamere
Honestly this version was better than the one used in GoT.
The original version is suppose to be from the era of pre mediaeval period when there were not much musical instruments and certainly there was no autotune back then.
@@adityaarun8181 I said better, not more "historically accurate"; which, by the way, dragons and ice zombies certainly are not.
God, I hate the Lannisters, but I can't help respect them. This song is awesome.
Are there any Northern songs you could sing to? I'm a big Stark fan.
I don't usually comment on TH-cam videos, but I just want you to know that I love your songs. Your music and your voice are amazing!!
COME ON! WHAT A BEAUTIFUL COVER! My heart broke on pieces. Well, I'm going to listen it a 500 more times. :)
Hi there, i'm a magician from Germany, so i beg for sorry for my bad english, first of all. I would like to use this lovely soundtrack in one of my halloween special magic tricks. Of course i would give all the music credits to you, mentioning you and your channel at the end of my trick. Please allow me to. Thanks in advance indeed.
+Ricardo Phoenix It would be an honor, thank you. Do you think you may film it because I'd love to see it. If you do, come and share the video on my facebook page
Best of luck of luck with it. :-)
I will. Thank you a lot indeed. :)
I posted my new video with your music on your facebook page, but i can't see it. Please tell me if you got it and if you like it.

+Karliene hy there! I really liked they way you sang the rains of castamere! have you ever heard of a song called "one tin soldier"? I think that song could do with a revamp from you, the original song has kinda a jazzy poppy beat that I think conflicts with the songs story, and I like everything you do with your songs lol
+Ricardo Phoenix - Mentalist und Dothrakischlehrer viel Glück
what is the song about exactly ? I really liked this version :)))
*****
You have the sigil's backwards. House Reyne had the Red Lion and House Lannister is the Gold Lion.
Bat5hade You're right; I stand corrected.
We know no king but the king in the north who's name is stark
This is spectacular. Such a powerful melody that fits the story perfectly.
So emotional and hauntingly beautiful.. exceptional voice , the best version I have heard... Wishing you lots of luck
This songs at certain makes me thing of Dolly Parton's Jolene
The North Remembers. Winter Is Coming.
and here is the scary thing. Most everyone in this died.
11 Years. How the time flies.
Such an absolutely beautiful version of such an eerie song. Your voice reflects the darkness and emotions behind the lyrics that few musicians can achieve. definitely subscribing :D
