Lyrics:
I am my mother's savage daughter
The one who runs barefoot, cursing sharp stones
I am my mother's savage daughter
I will not cut my hair, I will not lower my voice
My mother's child is a savage
She looks for her omens in the colors of stones
In the faces of cats, in the falling of feathers
In the dancing of fire, and the curve of old bones
I am my mother's savage daughter
The one who runs barefoot, cursing sharp stones
I am my mother's savage daughter
I will not cut my hair, I will not lower my voice
My mother's child dances in darkness
She sings heathen songs by the light of the moon
And watches the stars and renames the planets
And dreams she can reach them with a song and a broom
I am my mother's savage daughter
The one who runs barefoot cursing sharp stones
I am my mother's savage daughter
I will not cut my hair, I will not lower my voice
We are all brought forth out of darkness
Into this world, through blood and through pain
And deep in our bones, the old songs are waking
So sing them with voices of thunder and rain
We are our mother's savage daughters
The ones who run barefoot cursing sharp stones
We are our mother's savage daughters
We will not cut our hair, We will not lower our voice

I am a single father who raised savage daughters; four of them, no sons. They are my shield maidens, my valkyr. Even though it says Mother, it still makes me think how proud i am of them now they are all women. This rendition of this song is my favourite, Miss Shehelova's voice is sublime and takes me to other times and places.
Beautifuly said sir
My single Dad raised me too and I'm proud to say I am what I am because of his fierce love. Thanks for amazing fathers like you.
respect!
You're an awesome dad dude
You gotta be a tough dude for that accomplishment ….
This song crosses all cultural, ethnic & racial boundaries. It reaches the souls of the wild women that are out there making their mark in their own space. Peace on to you all.

I'm a pagan woman who has been disowned by my devout christian family for not fitting into their box. This song speaks to my soul.
I am an Orthodox Christian man. I don't know who caused that bad relationship between you and your family, but right now only one religion threatens to ruin the West and that religion is neither yours nor mine.
Your ancestors, as much as mine, did great things for our civilization. We can coexist without clashes and wars.
May you always be strong and healthy, sister.
Integrity is a brave and raw wilderness - find your people - we're here
May I ask what pagans in the modern world believe? I didn’t realise it was an active religion. Is there a text or set of beliefs you follow or is it more of a diverse and wide group of people with different spiritual beliefs?
I have been disowned too by my Jewish parents. Cheers sister✌️

The person I loved the most on this earth was my grandmother. She was a single mother she ran away from my grandfather in the name of love and set off to America. Probably the farthest place a Middle Easterners could think of back in the 80. My mom was fourteen and my aunt twelve. She took her masters and PHD. My mom was in the first class of industrial engineers in my country and my aunt took her bachelors from there too. She was my idol in life, my everything. And no matter how hard evil and unkind the people and the world was. She never gave up an inch of her kindness and femininity. She most definitely raised two savage daughters. No one asked for this. But I miss her terribly and will love her always. may her soul rest in peace. The three of them deserve their flowers.

Every time I listen to this song, I feel like I'm in nature, playing with wild and beautiful wolves, rabbits, foxes, birds, etc.
😂 same This is a perfect depiction ..
Nossa! Eu tbem...🥰🫠
You never spent much time in nature, did you? Likely the wolves would play with you, then foxes and birds would play with what's left and the rabbits wouldn't want to have any part in it (I'm not hating, just stating)
I feel connected to the world. When I go on nature walks I play this, when I want to feel... free, I play it.
No matter how many times I listen to this, it shivers me down to my bones.
I hear mountains, I hear chilling wind, I hear ancient forests, stars, fire and animalistic power in this. I never knew these were in me.
It's a good shiver 💚
i love how people are telling their stories in the comments. i love you guys and wish you the best. this is so empowering
I'm wiccan/pagan. I spent a chunk of my childhood playing in the marshes and bogs in my backyard. Ducks, geese, deer, pheasants, birds and butterflies were my only playmates. I'd often lose my flip flops in the muck. My long hair was eternally tangled and Goddess forbid I let my mother brush it. This song feels like an anthem to child me, a wild savage, product of the Earth Mother before she even knew who or what the Goddess was. Blessed be!

Im Irish, scottish, french, native American and a whole bunch more.. when she sings it speaks directly to my soul. This is basically a war cry to women to stay wild and stay strong 🥰
I was adopted by a woman who was incredibly abusive and absolutely hated that I loved to be out in nature camping and fishing and running around barefoot with my long hair LOL. My dad who adopt me and later took me from her so that I would no longer endure the abuse that he was unaware of was a 30-year Navy man who was also part Cherokee and so he taught me to fish and camp and appreciate nature and all of the beauty that God gave us and he also taught me to be true to myself. I'm so incredibly thankful that he did this because I now have a grown daughter with sons of her own and she is so much like me that she is very true to herself and very true to her heritage. To this day she loves to be out in nature refuses to cut her hair and is a loud voice when she sings so beautifully. Because of this she is raising three beautiful independent but respectful young boys.
Thank you so much for this song under this particular rendition of it. I was a vocalist for a great many years and can greatly appreciate the beauty of the strength and control of your voice.
The song strikes so closely to my heart because of my past and I appreciate it very much but you have done this for all of us as well as yourself.

The hands shadow is like the representation of "disturb" that we get through our life. They'll tried to control you into submissive, but the lyrics that said "I will not cut my hair, I will not lower my voice" is like the "stubborn" of our character that never give what the shadows wanted. In the end when she sing the "our" part, there's new shadow among her like she's being protected by her ancestor or the support of all the women in the world, and the bad shadow is gone, living the shadow that protected her alone. It's so beautiful, that it's hard to explain. But I tried my hardest to write it from my perspective.
I was waiting for this! this was our idea and I am so happy you felt it! thank you for your comment! ❤❤❤

I am a descendant of Irish, Scottish, Welsh and German and Nordic Viking (small amount, likely going way back when Vikings invaded Scotland, so this absolutely sings to my soul. And yes, of all the siblings, I am the youngest, and the savage, daughter. Always connecting with nature and dancing through the woodlands. This is my absolute favorite rendition of this song! I love the visuals with the hand shadows, I love her voice, the infliction she uses with the word broom, I love the drumming, everything about it is absolutely amazing and resonates so deeply for me. My only complaint is the one part of the song that is missing, the one with the lyrics about cursing too often, laughing too loud, howling at the moon, etc. I wish this version contained that part so badly. Many other versions have it, but they just do not resonate as deeply for me as this one does. 🤲✨️🦋👑

This song sends chills down the spine of every woman who was once silenced and was forced to live in a way she didn't want to 💔
I'm from Ireland and she could very easily be mistaken for an Irish Folk singer. Which isn't surprising consider the original was viking-age norse-styled, which also could be mistaken for Irish Folk. I feel like any strong hearted woman will feel this in their bones.
Im from croatia and i love Irish music😊
Absolutely ❤
She is slavic. This is slavic white voice, a traditional throat singing technique. Many cultures do throat singing! 😊
@@milekmalik8368 I know that she’s Russian. But, this sounds like folk music. The original is a Nordic styled song.
@@bettyboopsynoop It sounds like folk music cause it IS folk music, just not norse folk music. It is slavic folk.
And the original is not a nordic styled song but the lyrics are from a norse woman (aka the song has sayings/ phrases/ metaphors from norse folklore). The way she sings this song has nothing to do with norse folklore (besides it being a norse origin when it comes to the lyrics). It is slavic folk singing due to the slavic throat singing technique and it doesnt become "norse" just because the song was written by a norse woman and the lyrics mirror norse folklore. The way she sings it has literally 0 to do with norse folk music.
Beautiful how First Nations and Scandinavian folk songs have similar vocal improvisations despite being thousands of apart
That is true and I wonder how many people haven't really noticed that.
Ah, that’s the similarity. I wasn’t sure what element what seemed to bridge the two in my mind, but that’s a good point.
I am a Christian with Viking, Native American and Hispanic decent and I came across this song and I won’t forget it
Absolutely stunning and her voice has so much power. Reminds me of magic and ancient cultures and mother nature.
I love how there are people from different countries, different religions in this comment section, all saying this song touched them. We all crave at some level the simple yet complicated peaceful storm of nature. Love from an atheist Hungarian girl, and don't lower your voice!
Gives me chills. I am my mothers savage daughter, I never fit in with the crowd. I was wild I couldn’t be tamed till I hit rock bottom and found my spirituality grew stronger. I am me and I am proud of myself for getting past every obstacle thrown my way.

These women were called witches back in the medieval days because they were so different from the peasantry yet were not royalty by blood.
Congratulations. Amazing song!
Called such by the patriarchal church. In reality they were Wiccans, translated as The Wise Ones. They were the healers and seers. Today they are called midwives, nurses, and doctors.
Actually, witch hunts were more of an early modern phenomenon.
@@vecna2101 What do you consider modern? Witch hunting goes back to early human civilizations in the Middle East. The early church used the term to stamp out paganism. Starting in the 1400s the Spanish Inquisition began their hay day. None of this is modern.
@@Dragonalynn
"Early Modern Period" is the term usually used to refer to the period between roughly the late 15th-early 16th centuries and the 18th.
Witch hunts were not to "stamp out paganism". Paganism was dead and buried by the peak of the witch-hunting frenzy (16th-17th century), and was not "started" by the church (whose traditional stance is that witches should not be hunted because they don't exist). The Spanish Inquisition targeted false converts (or "false" converts), not witches.
@@vecna2101 Apparently you know nothing of the early history of the church, you know, the stuff they don’t want us to know. I actually went and looked up the history of witch hunting. It started in the Middle East, like where Christianity got its start. You can try to blow smoke all you want, but false converts as you call them, they were called witches, and as such were tortured to death or burned alive. What you are doing is a favorite game to play where you use contorting of the language in an effort to justify your position Rather dishonest in point of fact. And just because they finally stopped the practice in the civilized world, it does not mean it wasn’t done or isn’t done still in ignorant locations. Witch hunting predates your assumptions since it was having a pretty good time in the 1400s, which means the 13th century. Middle Ages is not modern. Nor is 700 years ago unless you are deep in archeology, anthropology, or some other similar age related science. And paganism died due to the atrocities the church committed in its zealot bigotry to convert the ignorant populace to the new self appointed religious governing hand. Of course they’d have “false converts” if death was meted out to free thinkers who defied the powers that be. It’s called self preservation and they used that little ditty “Thou shalt not suffer a witch to live. “ in the male oriented book of law called The Bible to do it. You do understand that Christianity goes back to Rome and the persecution started there as they decided to destroy multi theism and along the way every female oriented religion, right? Who usually is depicted as a witch? Women. Who gets stoned to this day as a witch by the ignorant? Women. Just because it isn’t front page news(except in Trump’s case) doesn’t mean witch hunting isn’t still a thing. It’s a useful tool to get undesirables out of the way, and in a patriarchal religion it comes in quite handy, especially when you couple it with that Adam and Eve propaganda we were sold.

My mom is a reserved, introverted and educated small woman -- and yet, she raised me. Her savage daughter. I am extroverted, assertive, and I will never not thank her for giving me the chance to live life like this
This just out of this world, I am pregnant with a baby girl 👧 and make her listen to this so she can be stronger than her mom, you name means soul, and this song speaks to your pure soul. Love you my baby❤❤

Listening to it on loop while working on my arts. Love and support from India 🇮🇳
Singing this song in my schools talent show next year (I'm a 7th grade students going into 8th) and I'm proud of it.
Listen to the song and watch the clip, to the song by Dymash Kudabergen, "When I've got you" I warn you right away: the clip contains a light dose of humor. And I can also recommend his song STRANGER and a cover of SOS. I think you will be amazed.
Check out all the other versions of this song here on TH-cam, that may help you decide what approach you want to take to make it your own. I definitely recommend at least watching Karen L U Kahan/Wyndreth Berginsdottir's version, she wrote the song and it is quite raw and powerful. th-cam.com/video/PAuC6gX36tc/w-d-xo.html
