I may not have the same type of background but it makes me feel the same way.. I feel like this song speaks of The ancient Giants of our world. I don't mean mythical creatures but animals we know existed but went extinct. The Giants that fall into the efforts we can take to keep them from time
👋 from Ireland. Legends of giants span from Ireland to Scotland to Scandinavia & probably all over the world. If they were rare we probably killed them of long ago out of fear. Today we’ve made extinct millions of natures creatures and in an insane way have led a path to or own extinction. Those pesky humans 🫤🫣
You know, I think there is no higher compliment than when someone is pleasantly surprised by my music. It makes this career of mine so rewarding. Thank you for taking the time to let listen to me, some people won't even give things a try so you're a pretty awesome person. I love that you love the song and thanks for letting me know. Hope you enjoy the others :-)
Louis Haack I meant on the show. They seem to be somewhat self aware of it, too. Olenna joked at the Purple Wedding that "it's been a whole hour since I last heard [the rains of castamere]".
Malefactor That was actually the case in the books as well. At the Purple Wedding, many of he performers played their renditions of "The Rains of Castamere" because they wanted to curry favor with the Lannisters.
For those wantin' the lyrics: Ooooooh, I am the last of the giants, my people are gone from the earth. The last of the great mountain giants, who ruled all the world at my birth. Oh the smallfolk have stolen my forests, they’ve stolen my rivers and hills. And they've built a great wall through my valleys, and fished all the fish from my rills. In stone halls they burn their great fires, in stone halls they forge their sharp spears. Whilst I walk alone in the mountains, with no true companion but tears. They hunt me with dogs in the daylight, they hunt me with torches by night. For these men who are small can never stand tall, whilst giants still walk in the light. Oooooooh, I am the LAST of the giants, so learn well the words of my song. For when I am gone the singing will fade, and the silence shall last long and long
This make me think of a lonely Neanderthal wandering in the great virgin forests of Europe 40'000 years ago, his tribe wiped out by the incoming Homo Sapiens, his heart broken by sorrow and loneliness, with only the music of his little bone flute to make him remember of his ancestors and loved ones.
“Do you know ‘The Last of the Giants’?” Without waiting for an answer Ygritte said, “You need a deeper voice than mine to do it proper.” Then she sang, “Ooooooh, I am the last of the giants, my people are gone from the earth.” Tormund Giantsbane heard the words and grinned. “The last of the great mountain giants, who ruled all the world at my birth,” he bellowed back through the snow. Longspear Ryk joined in, singing, “Oh, the smallfolk have stolen my forests, they’ve stolen my rivers and hills.” “And they’ve built a great wall through my valleys, and fished all the fish from my rills,” Ygritte and Tormund sang back at him in turn, in suitably gigantic voices. Tormund’s sons Toregg and Dormund added their deep voices as well, then his daughter Munda and all the rest. Others began to bang their spears on leathern shields to keep rough time, until the whole war band was singing as they rode. For when I am gone the singing will fade, and the silence shall last long and long. There were tears on Ygritte’s cheeks when the song ended. “Why are you weeping?” Jon asked. “It was only a song. There are hundreds of giants, I’ve just seen them.” “Oh, hundreds,” she said furiously. “You know nothing, Jon Snow.
You mentioned that this was difficult to produce. I just want to say that in my humble opinion, it really paid off. The sorrow in the lyrics of this song really comes through and your voice carries the emotion really well. I do not get chills from music often, but your performance sent shivers down my spine. You are doing a really good job, and I look forward to what you do in the future.

Ten years ago, I joined one of the world's largest news organisations as a trainee journalist. I was 22. A year later, they sent me to southern Africa. God I loved that year. For some reason, this song really reminds me of the Drakensberg Mountains. It's the video, the spirit and also a slight resemblance to a song called "Eland Cave" about the last of the bushmen in the mountains. Anyhow, after just over a year there they moved me on and send me somewhere I didn't want to go. There was a war. Which was fine, as it goes, definitely interesting and certainly a good chance to make a difference. I has been there 11 months when my vehicle hit a tractor somewhere on the Eastern front. It killed me. Okay, I exaggerate slightly. It broke my neck. Ever since then, I've been paralysed from the shoulders down. I've been like that now longer than I was a teenager. Even that's been okay, more or less. I got back to work the day after I left hospital in a wheelchair with carers. Over 20 countries I've covered, more than half have been since the injury. I'm now global defence correspondent. I divide my time between London and Washington DC. The last year, though, it's got difficult. I'm increasingly bedbound. I can only get up for a handful of hours a day. I think I got up three times in March. Turns out you get only a certain number of years after an injury like this, and it's beginning to look like I've had mine. I really hope not. Earlier today, I was sitting in a room with a couple of senior colleagues maybe twice my age. They did the same job I did and they got lucky. Or less unlucky. Thirteen colleagues from my organisation have died since I first reported for my interview in early 2003. Sometimes I envy them..Anyhow, I don't sleep so well now. Sometimes, often, actually, I listen to this in the middle of the night. I don't know if anyone will read this. To be honest I'm kind of hoping not -- it's not usually open idea to show this kind of weakness. And it's a strange place for this kind of writing. But there we are. That's my story. And this, I guess, is my song.
Peter. All men die, but how we live while we have breath is what truly defines us. You have seen and done things most men have not. You have your words, you are a writer. Write. Write from a part of your soul as you have done here, and keep doing so, for a writer never truly dies as long as their words are read. You can touch and inspire people for generations. Thank you for writing this, I salute your courage.
+Peter Apps I just wanted you know I read what you had to say and wanted to say its not weakness to admit your having a hard time. In my past profession it was my experience that the harder the battle a person was facing the harder it was for them to admit it. I hope someone with a better answer than mine will read this.
Think what you want doll, but lemme tell ya... this is perfect. You don't need a male vocal. My boyfriend is a long time reader of ASOIAF, and when I found this he was pleasantly surprised someone decided to compose this song. I didn't even realize where it was from. We had a nice little bonding experience thanks to this song. Not only that but it's beautifully composed and performed. Well done! Thank you!
cant stop listening to this, in all games i tend to play the 'giants', norn in gw, although i loved the jotun's tragic fall lore, and when i imagined myself my own character in Game of Thrones (cause yeah im kinda sad like that) i had him as a half giant who took his tribe of half giants (they called themselves half men as a joke, and as a way to show respect towards the only lanister they liked) south of the wall and earned himself the position of lord over a small coast town in the north.
We've finally reached the episode when this song should've been sung. Poor dude walking through ice cold water probably thought about this the whole time. He must be so lonely...
Mary Christine Wun wuns arrival to the wall with wildlings and Jon seemed like perfect moment for this song to be theme song. Lets hope he survives, though it is GOT x.x so who knows...
Dartfish I think I saw it written in the HBO Viewer's Guide that he "is one of the last giants". So technically, he's not the last one, but 1) does he know that? prob no and 2) how long will the others last behind the wall?
My favorites of your GOT songs, they are all awesome, but it´s something special with this one. You realy capture the sadness of the song in your voice.
Though I know this song's from ASoIaF (GoT) I can't help but think of the giants in Skyrim when I listen to it. Especially the passive one you can find mourning over it's dead mammoth. Skyrim doesn't normally tug at my heartstrings like some other games do but finding that poor guy always makes me sad. :( But great song anyway! Love this version.
I remember back when i found this piece. It was so amazing, i kept watching it for three hours straight. I wish i could unhear it, to discover it again
I imagine a beautiful and muscular lady giant sitting in front of scared tiny humans, beginning to sing as she cries instead of attacking anyone as the humans likely expected... I love it! Added to playlists instantly!
While I agree with you that I'd love to hear a "deep, penetrating voice" do a rendition of this, I think you perfectly captured the campfire-song feel of it, as it's presented in the text. This is gorgeous.
I must say that this is by far the best version of the song I've yet heard. The other renditions lack the rather appropriately mournful tone that this one has.
I never really know why a song is my favorite out of a collection there's always just that one sticks with me, and this is the one for your music. I first heard it a year ago and I still come back to it whenever I check out some of your new work
I listen to this song a lot, especially as I roam the planet and have to watch our world dying bit by bit. Every dried up stream, every piece of plastic in the deep woods becoming microplastics over time, the animals dead from human waste and excess...it breaks my fucking heart, even though it's such an incredible song. Thank you for creating this (and the rest of your magnificent work).
Came here to click thumbs up, noticed I already have. I really can't explain what it is, in these haunting words and that extraordinary voice, that manages to send chills up my spine every time I listen to this song, even when it's on repeat. This is truly a masterpiece, and definitely one of my all time favorites.
I've played this song dozens of times and every single time I get chills I've absolutely fallen in love with the sound of your voice and the way you put emotion into every word
I love the Song of Ice and Fire books, definetely they count to the best ever written. Thanks you bring them to live even more than George Martin already did. Amazing work
The enchanting voice and amazing lyrics this song has-it just makes you imagine sitting by a campfire and a beautiful and voice talented maiden like Karliene would start singing this as like a tale or legend. As the singing begins all the people around the campfire would start imagining the mountain hills, snow covered valleys and rivers, the home of the giants...Amazingly done...
Nothing truly good that lasts comes easily, only the best things come through hardship, trial, and error, and it is from this hardship we appreciate them all the more. I'm glad I made you smile, :), your songs have done that for me more than once. :)
You carry this one beautifully. Not everything need be sung by the barrelchested man with the deep voice. This carries for me as wise woman and bard stands at the fire in front of her group and sings the lore of old. Your voice has a gaelic sound to my ear and makes even better.
I will never tire of this song or any other masterpiece you make! Everything has a story, a voice, a lesson - and you string it together like artwork for all to enjoy! Thank you for all your hard work and sharing your creativity with us! 💜
that's awesome that you make your music so readily available. tonight (12/4/16) is the first time I've ever heard any of it. the first song I listened to was: Lament for Boromir . I will be listening to much more in the future. thank you.
I've heard several version of this song but yours is the one that stick to my head. Nevermind the "male" voice thing. I'm not familiar to ASOIAF but I think your voice give this a very noble turn to it, melancholic as you said. Beautiful.
I'm sure I did a comment long time ago on this one. But I still cannot believe how much I'm in love with this song. Brings me back to Ireland, where I did a road trip last year. Makes me wish so much to be back there sitting on the edge of some cliffs and listen to the sea. I've been listening to this song a thousand times for sure but still gives me goosebump every damn time. Sometimes it brings tears to my eyes because its so full of feelings and longins. I just love it.
I'm a huge fan of Enya so yes i would love to cover those songs eventually, I also have my eye on 'Book of Days" which was my absolute favourite track when I was young. I listened to it so much. :-)
Man! I have heard a lot of her songs but this I just can't get past. It's sad and lonely, strong and broken. Her voice really conveys this whole line coming to an end.
I must say, I have been listening to your songs for a few weeks now ever since I found your songs by chance. You have an enchanting voice and this is one of my favorite songs of yours.
When I study, I listen to you. When I write, I listen to you. When I'm bored, I listen to you. You are just too good. I don't even know how to describe the effect you have on me. Absolutely superb singing :)
Well you have no idea how lovely it is to hear that, I would never imagine my songs would be enjoyed by newborns so i'm thrilled. I can't wait to get the new album out there. :-)
You bring me to a better world with your voice...Sometimes it's so bittersweet and sometimes you bring me to happiness. It's unbelievable what your voice can do... Thank you so much for your wonderful music and that you let me dream of a better world not like ours with all that crime, violence, drugs, all that selfish people, all that sick people who kill our beautiful world step by step...😘🧚♀️🧝♀️🧜♀️✌
I've been listening to this for over an hour now and I cannot get enough; you bring life to a song that would otherwise be passed by. It makes you really feel for the dear Giants, I hope this gets the credit it deserves. Thank you for putting Melody to Lyrics!!
Thank you, I think I was just frustrated with it as I'd spent weeks trying to get it right from the composition to the tone and style. It was just a rather difficult song for me but i'm thrilled and over the moon that you like it. I do try so much to put my heart into all my songs so I'm glad that's coming across.
Absolutely spot on, its a travesty that tracks and artists such as this are not more well known. When you see the sort of thing that makes it onto the radio you have to ask whether anyone even has a soul anymore.
Congratulations on your 100th video! I think this symbolises the giant achievements you've made with your music since your TH-cam channel. The giant level of progression you've made the past few years. The giant amount of love you've received and given back to us. The giant amount more you have to offer to us. The giant list of reasons why we love and listen to your amazing work.
I don't know why but this song just hits me in the spirit, I don't understand how yet but I feel like I connect to this song in some spiritual way ,and it has like opened my eyes to just what we as human's have done to Mother Nature ,and it is only a matter of time before she decides to swing back at us, which is why I'm going to do what I can to make sure that Nature and I are on the same side
Hi there, just stopping by to say I absolutely love your music! And as a person that read & loves Martin's books I am extra happy that these songs it seems nobody knows (and the show-runners kinda ignore) are getting made and sung by someone with voice as lovely as yours :) so thank you, thanks bunches :) btw, while I can imagine this sung by a really low, male voice, I think you did it justice, it's very wistful and chilling...
So I've been playing Dark Souls, and when I got to the tomb of the giants, for some reason I thought of this and decided to play it in the background while desecrating the ancient tombs and destroying the guardian skeletons of giants, and my god...haunting. Amazing rendition you made here.
I am writing a fantasy story and this song is my favourite to lsiten to while writing. It's beautiful Thank you Karliene for giving us your precious talent
I see not a single reason why this song was the most frustrating song. It's so perfectly sang and arranged, that I'm listening to it over and over again. Thanks youtube for having the repeat button. You've an special talent and I'm glad you share it with us. Please, keep doing this gorgeous job you've been doing! xxx
Karliene is probably my favorite singer. Every time I go on TH-cam, the first thing I do is play this song, Become the Beast and others. You have such an amazing voice and your lyrics are beautiful
this is from a scene in the book where Ygritte (sic) is singing it as Tormund, then Longspear sing it back to her as Jon Snow looks on. She starts by saying, "you have to have a deep voice to do it proper". At the end she is weeping and Jon says, "don't cry, there are hundreds of them.......I've just seen them" to which she replies, "you know nothing Jon Snow". I think the song is not for one specific giant but if it were it would be for Mag the Mighty who was their elder and who died in the tunnel trying to get through Donnel Noye in the book and Grenn in the show. This is a beautiful version but I would like to hear it done a cappella with the characters from the show. Reading the passage I got choked up because it speaks of the end of things, for everyone.
I have a friend who works as a wildlife ranger / poaching guard in Africa and this song makes him cry because it makes him think of the elephants

You are...i just dont have worlds Karliene...who are you? Your music cuts sooo deep. Thank you🤗🤗🤗
Lovely voice
This song fills me with a deep feeling of loss and lament. It’s not anger, it’s just somber sorrow at an impending end and isolation.
Game of Thrones should incorporate more of the music from the books into the show.
Really, there only seems to exist two songs in all of Westeros: The Rains of Castamere and A Bear and a Maiden Fair.
Malefactor, there are plenty more songs than those two. Have you even read the books?
Louis Haack I meant on the show. They seem to be somewhat self aware of it, too. Olenna joked at the Purple Wedding that "it's been a whole hour since I last heard [the rains of castamere]".
Louis Haack It was pretty obvious what he meant. No need to be so condescending, and perhaps work on your comprehension/common sense.
Malefactor That was actually the case in the books as well. At the Purple Wedding, many of he performers played their renditions of "The Rains of Castamere" because they wanted to curry favor with the Lannisters.
For those wantin' the lyrics:
Ooooooh, I am the last of the giants, my people are gone from the earth.

I teared up much like Ygritte did walking beside Jon when the Free Folk came together to sing this. Powerful
I still come back to this from time to time. Such a beautiful and haunting song.

do you by any chance know which book it exactly is? I want to look it up^^
timbertable A Storm of Swords by George R.R. Martin Chapter 15
Sabrina Dodgin
Well, thank you :)
I must say that this is by far the best version of the song I've yet heard. The other renditions lack the rather appropriately mournful tone that this one has.
I never really know why a song is my favorite out of a collection there's always just that one sticks with me, and this is the one for your music. I first heard it a year ago and I still come back to it whenever I check out some of your new work
I sure enjoy the type of music you sing. It is a reminder of the magic that we have lost.
I memorized this song and I cry so often when singing it... It's just so damn sad and heart-breaking!
You are right about it...😍
I listen to this song a lot, especially as I roam the planet and have to watch our world dying bit by bit.
An amazing song. My daughter loves it. Always calms her down.
I could not stop listening to your music
Every time I hear this it's like Jon, Ygritte and the other wildling's of the band are camping north of the wall and Ygritte is singing this...
Sergeant_ Chris in the books its sung by a massive wildling army that Jon is with on their match to the wall. Gave me goosebumps when I read it.
RIP Wun Weg Wun Dar Wun the legendary :'(
I've played this song dozens of times and every single time I get chills I've absolutely fallen in love with the sound of your voice and the way you put emotion into every word
Loved it. And the campfire flames which begin the video were a brilliant idea.

Beautiful song. Great rendition. Gave me goosebumps. Thank you.
I can't get enough of this song! This and "Lament for Boromir" are my favourite! It is purely amazing! :)
Magnifique chanson et magnifique voix, merci pour ce moment
I will never tire of this song or any other masterpiece you make! Everything has a story, a voice, a lesson - and you string it together like artwork for all to enjoy! Thank you for all your hard work and sharing your creativity with us! 💜
Why oh why I cant find this on spotify, would be perferc for my tavern music playlist. This song is just too good.
Because the majority of my music is free on my website, karliene.com/
Just go to the music section and download what you like, I have a lot. :-)
Damn, why wasnt I aware of this. Thank you for info. And it is amazing you made it free!
Isilidragden repay her by telling all your friends about it
that's awesome that you make your music so readily available. tonight (12/4/16) is the first time I've ever heard any of it. the first song I listened to was: Lament for Boromir . I will be listening to much more in the future. thank you.
Karliene beautiful song! What gave you the inspiration to make this song or was it from a book or movie?
This is by far one of the best and most beautiful songs I have ever heard. It gives me chills to my very core and makes my soul sing.
Best campfire song ever. Thank you Karliene.
A 70 ANS J'ÉCOUTE TOUJOURS CETTE CHANSON AVEC BEAUCOUP DE NOSTALGIE ♥ LOVE FROM MAURITIUS 🇲🇺
Man! I have heard a lot of her songs but this I just can't get past. It's sad and lonely, strong and broken. Her voice really conveys this whole line coming to an end.
I still think this is absolutely amazing.
I just keep coming back to this song. There is something so powerful, honest, and sad about this song. You have done an amazing job.
BEAUTIFUL, simply beautiful........thank you
A drink to the last of the Giants...
Rip wunwun...

RIP Mag the Mighty
Now I know why Ygritte cried listening to this - I do, too. Great work!
I must say, I have been listening to your songs for a few weeks now ever since I found your songs by chance. You have an enchanting voice and this is one of my favorite songs of yours.
Man, it gives me shivers.
Just reading the third book and listening to your covers makes it so magical
When I study, I listen to you. When I write, I listen to you. When I'm bored, I listen to you. You are just too good. I don't even know how to describe the effect you have on me. Absolutely superb singing :)
Wow I just love these songs..So beautifully sang..the word's run deep🙏💚beautiful thank you
Well you have no idea how lovely it is to hear that, I would never imagine my songs would be enjoyed by newborns so i'm thrilled. I can't wait to get the new album out there. :-)
Thank you SO much!!! Cant wait for your new music! God bless you!
Till Vahalla Wun Wun.
Thank you for putting Melody to Lyrics!!
the song is on repeat for half a day at this point, great job!
Thank you so much, that's truly lovely to hear and gives me a nice boost of confidence. I'm so happy you liked it. x
This song has to be one of my favorites ever. So hauntingly beautiful.
Thank you Raye, that's so lovely to hear. x
Hi there,
just stopping by to say I absolutely love your music!
And as a person that read & loves Martin's books I am extra happy that these songs it seems nobody knows (and the show-runners kinda ignore) are getting made and sung by someone with voice as lovely as yours :)
so thank you, thanks bunches :)
btw, while I can imagine this sung by a really low, male voice, I think you did it justice, it's very wistful and chilling...
Aww thank you so much Shawn, that's lovely to hear. xx
This is magical. Truly magical. I have no words to describe how amazing this song is. Thank you!
Wun Wun the giant hero, the last of the giants
"You smallfolk and your silly battering rams"
-Wun Weg Wun Dar Wun
Your voice itself is enough to make me cry. Marvellous work, i think it'd make a great indigenous song.
I'm in love with this song! I've heard many versions of it, and I think yours is the best! Every time I hear it, it sends shiver up my spine!
Your vibes coming in 2021 great voice. 💛
George R.R.Martin
would love this
I see not a single reason why this song was the most frustrating song. It's so perfectly sang and arranged, that I'm listening to it over and over again. Thanks youtube for having the repeat button.
You've an special talent and I'm glad you share it with us. Please, keep doing this gorgeous job you've been doing! xxx
I don't know what it is, but this song speaks to my soul. I love how you sing and the lyrics give me goosbumps
Karliene is probably my favorite singer. Every time I go on TH-cam, the first thing I do is play this song, Become the Beast and others. You have such an amazing voice and your lyrics are beautiful
After "Watchers on the Wall" and Mance and Jon's talk following episode, I've been listening to this song on repeat.
Absolutely beautiful and awe inspiring. Please do more songs
I absolutely LOVE how you sung this song. It's beautiful and I believe your voice works wonderfully.
Wun Wun, we salute you
this is from a scene in the book where Ygritte (sic) is singing it as Tormund, then Longspear sing it back to her as Jon Snow looks on.
Miss Karliene you have the voice of an Angel, and the way you sing this song is simply beautiful. Thank you for posting this
This was beautiful, I got goosebumps! Why have I only just found out about this great talent?
