Water on The Floor - LR3 Rover Drain Tube Patch - Rain puddle inside fix

  • There was a puddle of water was inside my Land Rover LR3 on the Drivers Side Floor. Turns out it was the Rain Drain for the Sunroof that had worn away and was just dumping water straight into the passenger compartment every time it rained. This video is how I created a simple tube fix so I wouldn't have to buy an entire new tube.

There are actually 4 drain lines to the sunroof. The same deterioration of the grommet
end will occur with them all. 3 of them are fairly manageable to replace, but the worst by
far is the front passenger line which requires removal of a fuse box. Gotta love British
engineering! Drain lines with limited life spans installed around critical wiring. Don't even ask about the lower wiring chases under the runners which will fill with an inch or 2 of
water if these leaks are not addressed. Once again we see ease of assembly taking precedent over ease of maintenance.

3:50, even easier...get the new hose and just swap the end onto your existing tube. the end goes on with a plastic connector, so its a simple yank off the new, push onto the old

Just like in the previous comments, buy an original new hose assembly for about $25.00 Canadian at the Land Rover dealer who believe it or not can be one of your best resources for parts & tech support.
Just pull the new rubber tip off of the new tube assembly and install it on the drain tube already in place in your car.
You can lube the rubber drain tip for easier insertion.
The remainder of the old & deteriorated rubber drain tip you inserted the plastic pen casing into will probably fail soon as well.
I presently running 4 LR3's , going on 11 years now, all with the trouble free 4.4 V8s.
Dealer parts are cheaper than all the other makes we have & everything is still available.
These rubber drain tips have lasted at least 12 years on our LR3 & I haven't changed all of them.
The rubber sometimes gets gummy & then it crumbles.

Thank you for this. My LR3 had a rotted elbow. The body of a magic marker slipped over the hose. I’ll get a slip fit connector and a new elbow ASAP but I wont have wet floor in the mean time.

I had water on the passenger side floor of my LR3 and I immediately thought it was the sunroof drains. Turned out it was the condensation tube on the center console side - it was clogged to point the condensation hose was filled with water and slowly leaking into the cabin.

    • @damionfisher5663
      @damionfisher5663 ปีที่แล้ว

@Veronica Collins depends on whether it's rhd or lhd. The drain runs from sunroof down the side channels and then outside. Sometimes, hoses crystalize and burst, causing water to run on floor

@@harveymanfrantinsingin7373 It sure can trigger warning lights.
You have to scan the codes.
Then pull up the plastic scuff plate along the base of the door frame, remove a second plastic cover to expose the wire bundle.
Removing the front seat & lifting the carpet makes it easier.
Do a visual inspection of the vet fine individual wires.
You need to fault codes with the wiring diagram which tells you the colour of the wires to look for but you may find some broken wires or connectors just with the visual inspection.
You need special crimp connectors to do the repairs, soldering is not recommended as it creates detectable resistance in the wire & the computer may throw other fault codes.
Your Land Rover dealer has pages they can print from the shop manual on how to splice those fine wires.
