Siddarth Bhagirath exactly and it’s not around a ship yard where you frequently have oil spills and pollution and trash getting into the water like in the Uk were smashfishing goes. Where toku goes it always seems like it’s a healthier Ecosystem and more fresher ingredients. Too bad toku can’t find lobsters in every video like smashfishing usually does haha
It's refreshing to see a chef admit they could've done something differently or selected a different product to use. Troubleshooting and tweaking recipes is what makes it fun.
Knife is life Taku. I consider myself somewhat of a gourmet chef. Out of all the fine dishes I have ever made I would say these fish tacos are the absolute best thing I have ever made. I used cod and it was a perfect texture and thickness to use. The genius thing here is the double taco. The soft shell on the outside holds the crunchy shell on the inside all together. Also the ample ingredients don't fall out like most other tacos. So thanks again for this brilliant recipe! The videos you make are very enjoyable to watch.
I watch a lot of catch and cook channels yet here you get catch and feast your eyes. We don't get to taste your dish but seeing it gives us the idea of how it tastes. Downside is you make us really hungry.
Yes, those "hard shell" tortillas are a pain as they always break in half at the fold. We cook them only about half hard or medium which allows them to still be semi crunchy yet limp enough to retain strength and flexibility to wrap around the ingredients holding them inside while taking bites. Two shells are really a good idea for those who want a tad more corn flavor. Thanks for sharing T&J.
I really love your catch and cooks Taku, especially because you focus on the cook part. I swear if I ever have to filet a fish, I know how because of your vids. Your food and recipes are always so simple, but they look so delicious and complex!
Bro bro I'm sure you've heard this before...but I just have to tell you I've watched all of your video since you were first getting started on TH-cam... Your confidence in front of camera has gotten soooooo good!!! I know I don't know everything about making videos but I know enough to know that you have gotten so much better and I love seeing how comfortable you have gotten in front of camera!!!!👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿 #Salute brother!!!!!
A tip for the crispy tacos, fry them flat for less time. They will still get crisp, but not so brittle. Then, take them out of the oil and lay them over the handle of a thick spoon/spatula so they wrap around it. This gives you a nice "U" shape and has a nice crunch while still being slightly flexible.
This looks BOMB!! I would spread the tartar sauce on the soft tortilla and then that would act as a glue when placing the hard shell taco. I can't wait to try this!!
Taku Tuesday! I'm Hispanic and I enjoy your take on fish tacos! I agree the texture and taste of the rock fish are perfect for making tacos. I like to use blacking seasoning, tomatillo salsa, smoke paprika confused Mexican cremea. Topped of with cabbage, cilantro, and a squirt of line juice. Doesn't get better much better than that.....
Taku those tacos look so good, just like every thing else you chef up! Sweet video, as always. Always admire the skill level man, epic. Cheers Taku& Jocelyn!🤙🍻
Excellent vids, keep it up, the experience of being able to hit the surf, bring in your catch, cook, share, and eat the same day is memorable. I used to spearfish on a southern cal rocky cliff, and cook fish right on the beach, also anyone walking by I would offer it them. There are not many markets that will sell you a day old fish, for some people who love fish, it just blows their mind at how fresh fish should be eaten.
good to see youre still going strong and doing your thing bro!! ihopeyou guys are doing ok of this channelled dont need to stress bout the restaurant...every cloud has a silver lining!!! much love from new zealand
This channel is amazing, teaching me recipes as well as technical skills. As well as being a very down to earth and chill dude. I'm sure you would be great to have a few beers with!
Wow, your fish tacos looked amazing Taku!! You nailed it using both the soft and crunchy shells and your homemade pico de gallo. I'm definitely trying your recipe for the pico. 🌮🍺
Thank you for your channel. You have taught me so much. I am a visual learner and my fish fillets have never looked better. Also my knives never sharper after the whetstone video. It is really nostalgic watching because I grew up in the bay area and miss.... parts of it. Thanks again!

Another great catch and cook Taku!! Man, you are livin' the life. You have Jocelyn digging your clams, and your mom sewing your knife bags. Is there anyone you don't employ? LoL!
I am for sure going to use this recipe to make some today, thanks for the video man keep doing what you love. P.s. to make a perfect crunch taco that will be wide enough to fill is to splash a little oil on bot side place it on a rack and let it cook for about 5-10 minutes in the oven at 400 450. Just keep an eye on it also Before placing the taco on in the oven season to you liking if you want.
next time if you feel like it, i bet it would be delicious if you laid the first soft shell on a table, sprinkled it with some good melt-able cheese, and then used a torch to melt it. and then use the stickiness of the cheese to wrap the hard shell tortilla and have it adhere like cheese glue. Also your choice of hot sauce on top would really add that kick for me. Love your vids man! and i love food. glad to see you killin the TH-cam game out here
Hey Taku, suggestion for hard shell technique. Get a thin layer of oil on a wide bottomed pan, then cook one side at a time. This way the sides will be crunchy and the middle will have a little more pliability. Also, you can control how wide the mouth is this way as well.
Have you ever tried taking one of your fish carcasses and put it under a new plant in your garden? As the fish meat on the back bone and head break down they feed the plant and will make them almost explode with growth.
You would serve well with a restaurant on the beach with surprise menu and maybe some steady items BUT have special guest chefs aka youtubers. Idk how doable that actually is but it would be a cool concept. Love the videos as always you inspire us!
