Had 3 visits in 6 weeks from 3 different goons not been in for 2 of them and they have left a snotty threatening letter in my post box. I live in a bungalow and wonder if they think i am elderly and can bully me into buying a licence I do not need.
I cancelled my mothers licence when she went into a care home 8 years ago , I filled in the online form and still got these letters . Since she passed away a year ago , I am getting them every two weeks , absolutely fed up with them .
Im starting my third year of no tv licence, ive had one visit in that time. Never opened the door and they toodled off. I get one letter a month which i send straight back to them, return to sender. It works . Keep up the great work. 🏆
Tvl have an agreement withe the post office and your letters won't have been returned... you are better off to forward to your mp asking why they permit harassment...
I've had five letters for this apartment and I only moved in two weeks ago. The first two letters were dated before the apartment was even completed in February and ready for occupation. They're getting desperate. Glad I have a shredder.
About 10 years ago they turned up on my dad's doorstep stating that their records showed no valid tv license at his address. He stated that he did indeed have a valid license, and showed it to them. They said that their records showed a different name at his address, and asked for proof of I.D. He said their records were obviously wrong and showed them his driving license. They still wouldn't accept it, and harassed him for months, until he threatened them with legal action. They are crooks who will try anything to get your money.
I did declare I didn’t need one and no refund was issued (9 months left on licence)I had a visit from 2 people a male and female ENFORCEMENT OFFICER……ha ha ha. I have adhd and have been terrified by these people. I just said no thank you and closed the door. Thank you Jon.
The way I understand it is, if you legally cancel your licence, they keep sending you letters and a threat of a visit, even though you have cancelled "legally" . Also, if you fill out the cancellation forms or cancel by phone, they will have a name to go with your address. I'll just continue to ignore them and not give them my money and simply not go through the pointlessness of filling out a form. Thanks for your work and information, John
I just declare every 2 years under a fake name. It doesn't really matter whether they have my name or not, they know my address is not licensed. I know I don't have to, but that's my choice and it stops the letters and I have never had a visit in 6 years.
Thanks, I might do that then. I only get a letter on average about once a month. But from what I've heard from others is that even after cancellation they still receive letters.
@@cshartley101 It just seems to vary and there are different outcomes for people doing the same thing. When I cancelled, they did say I might get a visit, the usual nonsense threats, but that's an email rather than a letter. I really hate those letters, that's why I chose the online declaration every 2 years.
Yes but if you’ve had a tv licence like me, they have your name anyway to send the licence. I have just this minute cancelled mine as I don’t watch any live tv, haven’t for years, don’t have virgin media or sky. Most I watch is the odd movie on Prime which I pay for by subscription. I have no way of recording as non of the above so I’ve unsubscribed to the licence. 15 quid a month goes towards my dogs funds for vet prescriptions. Times are hard time to get hard
I've been licence-free for over two and a half years, received countless letters from them, but no visits. I have signed the no licence needed declaration twice (without including my real name). I don't watch or record anything that's being broadcast nor use BBC iPlayer and have saved over £300.
My house is a blackhole, anything that goes in, such as these letters never come out, no reaction, nothing. Nothing easier than doing nothing. Why on earth would you declare you don't do something...
I declared no license needed 2 years ago and last year as well. I will keep on doing it every year whether needing to or not. Haven't had any letters or visits. If they do happen to visit I will get my solicitor friend to send them a letter.
Jon,I informed BBC Licensing 4 years ago I didn't need a licence. They emailed me back a few days later to confirm this. Then the letters started ending up with the big red envelope one. Had a vist after the covid suspension. I then contacted my MP and said I had been intimidated on my door step by demanding money with menaces. She agreed, she wrote to BBC and I haven't heard anything since.
Reason.. they go "scary" on these letters is they know they cant enforce it as they cant see what you are watching unless you tell them or let them in. So if the letter wrote you cant watch live tv LEGALLY without a licence, please buy one, people will know they can do it anyway. They cant detect you watching live TV, so their hands are tied and like the Police in the US Not able to "demand" ID without arrest, they push you into giving it against the law threatening with arrest if you dont give ID. In court defendant always winds a lawsuit. UK cant do anything with this licence mess now but send out letters and doorstops to get you to admit you are watching live tv without the licence. shut the door and theres nothing they can do by the law...

Of all the dozens and dozens of licences which I might require for any one or more of a great many leisure or commercial activities in one or all nations of the UK, there is only one licenci g body which - with absolutely no evidence AT ALL - makes the assumption that I _must_ need said licence and proceeds to harangue me _continually_ and repeatedly over a period of years, about the penalties I face for my omission to own such a license _when I do not need said licence_ .
Send them a legal letter warning them to stop sending you letters. Hit them back with the letters, you're not breaking the law with anything to do with not having a licence
John, don’t rely on living on a top floor flat as protection. I am a delivery driver in the UK and I believe I witnessed a goon buzz a different flat to gain access to the building under the guise of being from the “council”. They will often buzz a different number flat to the one they are actually visiting. So still expect the knock.
I live in a sheltered flat, and we are not obliged to buzz anyone in (unless it's the postman), if the person they are wishing to visit/communicate with is not answering their entryphone. I do have a TV but do not watch BBC or any live broadcasts, only talking pictures TV or the crime channel....all the others are crap in my opinion.

Keep up the good & accurate work 👏 haha the BBC can go and whistle for funding! You are doing a great job of informing people in your videos. Good man.
you don't need a license to watch live TV and bbc iplayer full stop. Been watching live TV and bbc iplayer for 2 years and nothing, no letters , no visits, nothing. It's a complete scam.
I live with my autistic son so I did the no licence needed declaration as he would get upset from the letters arriving. We haven't watched live TV for over 4 years. I so far have had no visits. But my son is prepared now if one calls. Firstly he won't answer the door and if he does he will be polite and and say no thanks and close the door....
I advised that "I do not need a license" a number of times and even did it online a good while ago and as a result they stepped up on the door knocks and threats. Harassment, extortion under threat of court order. Abusive people become tv licence employees. If you answer the door to them say "You are harassing me, you are intimidating me without cause or reason; come back and i will sue you personally for abuse." The look on their face and the stumbling words as you slam the door in their face is worth it!
I dont care, they can threaten as much as they want, there is nothing on TV that i could be interested in thats worth a fraction of what they are charging!.
Pretty sure I've got the full set several times over now after 12 years of not paying for something I don't need....any other company would have been warned about harassment by now by the courts.... This needs to be stopped... especially as elderly people are likely to be extremely unsettled by these bullying letters...

You might get a return visit, but for them it's a numbers game. The goons earn commission, so they can't waste time on a useless address. If you like in a big town / city you stand more of a chance of a return visit at some point

With the list of categories for needing a TV licence such as TH-cam Netflix including commercial broadcasting companies that you can watch on a smart phone or PC, they still say you require a TV licence, such ambiguity should be illegal as it's nothing to do with the BBC, you are right, they will continue to strike fear into the public with the backing of the government through the back door avenue to pay up even when you don't need a licence, totally disgraceful.
Ano it’s shocking when these are subscription companies in themselves and nothing to do with TV licensing and the BBC. Same as itv which is funded by advertisements.
Thanks for your videos they help/aid others and us to breakthrough the fear barrier of not getting a TV licence! for two years now at least, we have not bought a TV licence, YES, we do it legally, we even cut off the end of our aerial cable and taped over the bare end, so we don't watch BBCI player or BBC program channels, including broadcast/live TV we rather watch Netflix, Disney, Now TV, Amazon Prime, and downstream services, or DVD's Blu-ray disks, at first, we didn't feel totally comfortable/ confident early on but we stuck at it, if it's done legally then absolutely nothing to fear guys, now we don't even miss traditional broadcast TV believe me, it's not worth the licence fee, if you ask me personally. So, we healthily jumped over the licensing obstacle of not needing a TV licence, however I heard further unsavory discussions that, they the BBC could try and put the TV licence fee on local council taxes, imagine Netflix or Sky trying that one, hmm and everybody will have to pay this weasel fee, possibly even the legally blind, who's to know these things? That in my book would amount to a form of tasteless corruption and if done would demonstrate to everyone what kind of society we truly live in sadly, Jon-ChilliJonCarne any ideas on how to legally fight that one if it happens? So, we jumped over these high obstacle of not needing a TV licence for now, however these discussions are ongoing hypothetically the BBC and the Government could try and put the TV licence fee on local council taxes is absolutely preposterous and shameful, supposably everybody will have to pay this weasel fee if it's brought onboard, a bit like histories window taxes demonstrate to everyone in this country what kind of real society we live in today, may I for one surely hope this plan is all 'balloon hot air' for now I say Jon, do you have any ideas on how to legally fight that one, if it comes to fruition it's a sneaky 'doozy' so I've asked twice? Joh, you have my warmest respect.
Just bought a house so told them I didn’t need a license and within 2 months had a letter stating that I had been “detected” watching live tv - despite house being unoccupied & uninhabitable during renovations
I had filled in the "No T.V. license needed" form online 3 times over the last 6 years. This time i did not bother. I got 3 letters over about 3 months, then one unanswered visit from one of the boys. I have many cameras.Waited till i got another letter then filed in the "No T.V. needed" form online. Only this time i did not fill in my name. I do not watch TV in any way shape or form, it's something i lost interest in years ago. I still have a SKY dish just above my front door, my SKY subscription expired a good 20 years ago. As i give zero thought to TV I'm less likely to fill in any form next time.
Hi. Just thought I would add my two penn'orth. I have just received my free TV licence and a refund . I have also had a reminder that I haven't paid my tv licence.
I am so lucky, I’ve filled in the online form for no licence needed, three times and I’ve never been bothered by a visit, threatening letter or letter about no licence registered at my address.
My Mrs family got a letter saying investigation in the area. They asked me about it cause I got them to not pay a few years ago. They declared online and almost 2 years later they got that letter and the first thing I said was what investigation? they don't even have your name, what power? are they the law? They can't do anything and IF they appear don't say anything other than no thanks and close the door.
I've had the very same letter. I photograph them and put them in my Facebook page. Usually get a few laughs from friends. They can keep them coming, it's not my licence money that's paying for all this bulls¥₩t. Two years now since I had a Goon visit, unfortunately I was away so never had the pleasure of shutting my door on them!
24 years no licence, lived in two places, latest since 2013, lot of letters, no visit. But then i live in east london so they surely can't recruit anyone who would dare. Tip... make sure you don't use iplayer either, and make sure you do open letters from the state about voting etc to make sure you tick boxes for keeping your name off the visible electoral roll, so they can't address you by name
Hi ChilliJohn, was speaking to someone the other day and they absolutley tried to shoot me down in flames stating that you require a TV license just to own a TV set AND to cover the radio they have in their car,They were not having any of it,Is it any wonder the BBC are pocketing a fortune when ill advised people have this kind of mindset
Back in the 1980's a case went to court in Glasgow for using a TV without a licence. The guy had found out that the governmt did not allow TV detector vans to operate in Northern Irteland. He screamed discrimination. The judge agreed and as a result all the detector vans were scrapped.
I see Freely the latest tv service was launched yesterday which is backed by the bbc,ITV, ch4 and ch5. What really annoys me is in the press it's being described as a free service which is complete fabrication as you still need a licence to watch it.
Who is paying the private company and how do they have access to the information? There are rules and this company should be investigated for unlawful harrassent. The information commissioner should ivestigate. What are the odds?
March 2023. Politely phoned up to cancel. All well and good. September 2023 the first harrassing/threatening letter arrived. By December 2023 i had FIVE letters, the last threatening a visit 'on ar after 14th December at any time during the day, evening or weekend'. And THAT is why I will NOT be telling them i don't need a licence again and will just slam the door in their harrassing F'n face. I will treat them in the same way as they have treated me.
I also live in a block of flats with a buzzer for the main door. I have lived there for 15 yrs and NO visits BUT I get a monthly Threat O Gram. I could get a free license as I'm 75 and on pension credits, but there is no point because I don't watch live TV and on the application form they want your previous TV license number which I can't remember because it was over 40 years ago since I've had one. I have wondered if I said I once watched BBC IPlayer, if they would take me to court, I have my doubts and if they did I would say I got confused and I actually watched it at a friends house who was licensed.
Really appreciate the video and yes I think it's a good thing to see what letters everyone gets, as individuals we are more likely to be in terminated by these letters but by showing they are Commonplace it is not such a scary thing, yes and BBC TV Licensing uses fear of financial loss or breaking law to get you to pay.
I wrote to them and removed their implied right of access so they aren't allowed to come round my house. I don't have a TV in my house. I really hope they try and get a warrant so I can take them to court for harassment.
The bit about how many doors they knock on is ridiculous, 5000 a day works out if they do 12hrs around 420 every hour for the whole country, ether they are lazy or that's the number of doors that get opened to them. Your postman mostly delivers in a single morning to more doors in one day.
I had a goon from tv licensing put a letter through my door with info hand written in the boxes on the back. On the front it says in red " do not ignore this". I wasn't in the property at the time but it says they will be back in 7 days. If I was in the property I would have told them get to f**k off my private property. I don't have a tv at the property and don't have the Internet there either and don't live at the property. Anyway, why should anyone have to pay a licence to watch independent tv stations and the money is given to the BBC!!! I just ignore the B'stards. Great channel.
Four years me no licence I just regard their activities as purely childish. If people want to cancel they should do it, you've more to fear from the Bogey man under the bed.
@@VictorLaszlo-iz3il They'd like you to think so but if you do as Chilli says and have no contact with them there's no risk. After the first non declare two years ago without issues, I again declared in Jan 2024 I did not need a licence, this month April I got a letter saying 'something has changed and you need a TV licence' (they never said what the change was, then I got a second letter a few weeks after saying as I did not reply to the first letter an investigation has started. I think it just the usual trying to scare people into buying the licence.

Hi there, just watched your video on receiving the TV Licence letter, mine was about the no licence needed, you have put my mind at rest. There's nothing good to watch on TV anyway only repeats same old same old, very boring. I have other hobbies to get on with. Thanks for your advice.
I got one of these today and with my mental health issues i found it very concerning! It caused me stress and alarm! I told them i dont need one! It took them a year to sort out this form about not having one and they never done it! So today i rang them and told them i dont want one!.
I get letters all the time, nobody comes, I tend not to answer the door generally anyway, but when they threaten I wait and nothing. I don't watch any BBC I don't even watch live motor sports on TH-cam, so I am not breaking any laws, but they are idle threats, nothing ever happens on the days they say they are coming.
I think I can beat all of you, not had a TV or a licence since 1983(ish)! I've moved several times so I've been The Legal Occupier to C(r)apita for many years. Have just moved into a retirement complex - am pushing 80 now - and got my first letter at my new address. I went to see the Manager of the complex, as I don't want anyone giving out my name if the goons come a-visiting and I don't buzz them in, but fortunately she's wised up to the goon visits and threatograms already. So if they come during 'office hours' they won't get any details from her. Many people here do just sit and watch the box all day - but many don't, and I'm encouraging those who don't to think about whether or not they need a licence.
They haven't tried it on here, the past few months. Last bloke i got filmed swearing when he saw the CCTV fitted out my first floor window. I actually pity them, the Traffic Wardens have more respect around here.
I've spoken to People who pay the tax and I've asked them why do you pay it? No one has ever said that it is good value for Money. We don't want to get in any trouble, best to stay legal or we do watch East Enders.
I actually had a interview to be a goon. The pay is quite good £30k+ per year. Interview was done on teams and was asked awkward questions. Didn't get the job
Just a quick question. My daughter is continually getting these letters though only watches Netflix, Prime and TH-cam (no live broadcasts) so has no need for a licence. She has a Ring doorbell so does not answer to visitors she doesn't recognise. Is it preferable to answer to these goons and politely give it the old "no thanks" or simply not answer the knock on the door? By the way, great TH-cam site. Very informative and entertaining. Keep up the good work! 👍🏻
Keep on making these videos Jon because it shows people how consistent you are with what you know - people can't ignore that despite whatever opinions they may hold!
I received a letter informing me that if i didn't contact i should expect a licence enforcement officer or representative? Calling around within ten days, that's was about three weeks ago, still not going to to pay into their legal extortion racket.
If a person is displaying a no door to door sales person as supplied by the local police and Capita knock trying to sell a licence does this not break the law as they are not enforcement officers with immunity?
I haven't required one for over 5 years now. I haven't advised them of this in the same way I haven't advised a plumber that I don't require his services. I now file their letters straight in the recycling bin.
A guy knocked on my door a few years ago. He failed to declare who he was. He didn't have ID nor did he showed me any. I just got home from hospital having major surgery so I was doped up with meds. He never said why he was there but asked if he could come into my flat to see if I had a TV. Then it automatically clicked. I said, no I'm a single female living on my own and you think I am letting a man, a stranger into my home as a vulnerable female, and no I don't need a TV licence when I don't watch live TV and then I shut the door.
My daughter who is a, vanerable person, has been caught with no TV licence. She has been in hospital for over 10 years but moved from hospital to supported accommodation over a year ago, the TV licence ask to come in her flat ask her to put TV on to see if she had eye player, which she had, he told her she was being reported and would receive something in the post soon
I declared a no TV licence needed online but i still had a goon knock on my door. I just told him to go away and shut the door.
Spot on.

Tvl have an agreement withe the post office and your letters won't have been returned... you are better off to forward to your mp asking why they permit harassment...
Brilliant.
Keep up the good work Jon👊 This scandalous racket MUST be called out and stopped!!!!!
Yes keep doing the letters jon. I was reassured myself thanks to your channel. Let's get more doors closed on them.
@@cshartley101
It just seems to vary and there are different outcomes for people doing the same thing. When I cancelled, they did say I might get a visit, the usual nonsense threats, but that's an email rather than a letter. I really hate those letters, that's why I chose the online declaration every 2 years.
ive done a no licence needed on line for years and you dont have to put a name to it
Yes but if you’ve had a tv licence like me, they have your name anyway to send the licence.
I'm getting one a month. Thanks for info as I don't open them.
It will stop for 6 months tns then re start
Jon,I informed BBC Licensing 4 years ago I didn't need a licence. They emailed me back a few days later to confirm this.
Then the letters started ending up with the big red envelope one. Had a vist after the covid suspension.
I then contacted my MP and said I had been intimidated on my door step by demanding money with menaces. She agreed, she wrote to BBC and I haven't heard anything since.
I was selling a fridge freezer to a bloke that took my number in the pub. I haven't heard anything since.
Reason.. they go "scary" on these letters is they know they cant enforce it as they cant see what you are watching unless you tell them or let them in. UK cant do anything with this licence mess now but send out letters and doorstops to get you to admit you are watching live tv without the licence. shut the door and theres nothing they can do by the law...
as a protest , how could we gather all the letters and then leave them out side the jimmy savil bbc door step
Keep the letters and then send them back with no postage.
I stopped paying them after I realised they knew about savil
Remember: the default is you don't need a TV licence. You opt in, not out. The same as a firearm's licence.
... or a fishing licence, a driving licence, a pilot's licence, a canal boating licence, a water abstraction licence, an agricultural analysis licence, a bookmaker's licence, a cockling licence,
... or a fishing licence, a driving licence, a pilot's licence, a canal boating licence, a licence to dive at protected wrecks in Wales, a cockling licence, a bookmaker's licence, a scrap metal dealer's licence, a fireworks manufacturing and storage licence, an abstraction of water licence, a dangerous wild animals licence ...
I watch what I like, not paid for years.
That must be tresspass.
I live in a sheltered flat, and we are not obliged to buzz anyone in (unless it's the postman), if the person they are wishing to visit/communicate with is not answering their entryphone. I do have a TV but do not watch BBC or any live broadcasts, only talking pictures TV or the crime channel....all the others are crap in my opinion.
i love how they just ASSUME you need a tv licence its pathetic my 69 year old mom received one yesterday she is ok with tech i just been going over how she can watch her soaps without tv licence even eastenders dont know why eastenders episodesmare normally on youtube few hours after broadcast so u can watch without licence point is i been showing my mom she can watch everything she loves on catch up not i player without tv licence and she had a goon last week come to door i was there and she just told him to bog off and shut door i was proud i just hate how they assume ur guilty its so wrong keep them coming jon
Keep up the good & accurate work 👏 haha the BBC can go and whistle for funding! You are doing a great job of informing people in your videos.
Good man.
If any letter says legal occupier it's not specifically for you. I had loads when I moved into my flat.
There just isn't anything worth watching on TV these days.
ha ha yes your right.
@@ColtDee You're right.
Repeats of programs and propaganda news. No chance ever paying it again.
I noticed that my love letters from the BBC are more frequent too!
you don't need a license to watch live TV and bbc iplayer full stop. Been watching live TV and bbc iplayer for 2 years and nothing, no letters , no visits, nothing. It's a complete scam.
You only pay it if you want to.
I haven't had a license for 19 years and still get letters after telling them over and over I haven't got a tv.
I’ve just just cancelled ours i think it’s a sinking ship now it’s dead hopefully and thank you for your help on this matter mate I’ll ways wach you channel keep up the good work fight mate form south Derbyshire
Had a visit last week told him to go away 😢
I had a visit other day just said no thanks and closed door - should I expect to hear more from them?
You might get a return visit, but for them it's a numbers game. The goons earn commission, so they can't waste time on a useless address.
If you like in a big town / city you stand more of a chance of a return visit at some point
@@ChilliJonCarne thanks for taking the time to reply it’s most appreciated and keep up the good work 👍
seen them all john , my latest one is, we have been authorised to visit your home ,still havent come round .but i have nothing to hide , have been lissence free for the 11th year , i dont watch any broadcast tv , its all shit ,
I Live in a new build home, within 2-3 months they started the threatening letters and last week sent the enforcement officer whilst I was at work. The person left a note saying they will be back.
Had this one again last week, 3 rd time since i moved in February last year. As usual it went to line my cats litter tray
I cancelled my payment. Threw the letters in the bin. Had one visit. Ignored the door. Nothing since. Winner winner
Got the same letter last week and put it back in the post with "Return to sender "
Mine will be on it’s way soon, thanks for the heads up Jon😮
It’s arrived!!!
They have no power.
Living in a top floor flat, I'd be inclined to let them into the block and make their way to your actual front door before turning them around.
First mistake was telling them.. you don't need to... bin the letters or send to your mp asking why you are being harrasesed for services not used..
How do you remove their implied right of access and why would they have a right to access?
The bit about how many doors they knock on is ridiculous, 5000 a day works out if they do 12hrs around 420 every hour for the whole country, ether they are lazy or that's the number of doors that get opened to them. Your postman mostly delivers in a single morning to more doors in one day.
Thanks for all your work Jon, keep em coming.
They have been in my area for 20 + years!.Never aknowledged.
I've not had a letter from TV licensing for over 16 years since I had a visit, yet some people get loads of them, I feel abandoned.
Don't you risk getting jailtime and a criminal record ?
@@VictorLaszlo-iz3il They'd like you to think so but if you do as Chilli says and have no contact with them there's no risk. I've had goon visits their so called " enforcement officers" and they send me a meaningless threat letter every month which goes straight in the bin and where has it got them. Nowhere.
Never communicate with them.
I got very upset when their goons failed to visit last month, I took the day off work just to be in and had 3 cameras all ready to record....
4 years licence free.. Just don't open the door, letters go in the bin.. If I do get caught out and open the door just say no thankyou shut the door...
Exactly, no need to be overly aggressive or rude, a simple no thank you or I am not interested then shutting the door is all that's needed.
I don't watch any BBC I don't even watch live motor sports on TH-cam, so I am not breaking any laws, but they are idle threats, nothing ever happens on the days they say they are coming.
we should have all woke up by now , having been through the fear and scaring by MSM including BBC and Government about the virus
which was fake
I also seem to be getting letters more frequently lately.
Good evening johnny👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻just got my new toilet paper letter🤣🤣👍🏻
I'm afraid you'll need to vacate the top step of the podium. :>) I've not had one since mid 1979.
@@maunsell24 You win the medal!
Your advice is brilliant. I shall follow it. 😊
They haven't tried it on here, the past few months. Last bloke i got filmed swearing when he saw the CCTV fitted out my first floor window. I actually pity them, the Traffic Wardens have more respect around here.
I have done the no licence needed declaration now for about 8 year's and I have never had a visit
I noticed the bricks on your wall... They seem to be longer than the standard brick. Thanks for the video.
Thank you x they have started on me again. Just checking x ❤
Never tell them you don’t need it. That could be used as evidence against you.
Got my first vistit today. The reptile said we need to have a look to take you off the system.
