that bottom right gear can be on wrong in two ways, you have a 1 in 3 chance if doing it right. you MUST spin that gear and ikf it drops down, it is wrong, spin it again, it will either stay up or drop again, if it drops it is wrong, spin it again, this time it should stay up. it drive a 3 to 1 gear reduction unit, you MUST get it right or engine will shake real bad. the CORRECT install is to open a service port and insert a screwdriver then turn the gear until the screwdriver moves to the correct position. however, the GRAVITY trick works just well i suggest you search for HOW TO NOT FAIL! @Kishaun Sookdowar no problem, I found out the hard way after fixing one and it shook so bad it could not be driven, nowhere do people tell you about that tricky gear

Mate you've helped out heaps I have an 02 lancer that has a blown head gasket, doing the timing belt while it's all apart... well of course I lost the timing with the belt slipping around the sprockets it was already that loose. This is a rough guide on the same sort of engine, cheers mate. Makes me want to keep people up to date seeing as there arnt many vids like this around and people need to know how right? 😉
For sure! Glad to hear that it helped you out. I had 1 Hell of a time trying to figure it out ince I did I wanted to share this to the workd. Glad to have helped.
I’m currently working on a 03 eclipse and did the same exact thing as u how do I know exactly my timing is set correctly just by the marking or could I be 360 degrees off I real need help if u can reply it will mean a lot
Thanks for sharing! I have an engine like this in my catapillar forklift and I can't find anything in the diagrams. Do you happen to know what to set the distributor at?
This one is not a Distributor style it's a Coil Over style. However anything that is Distributor style you can start off by finding TDC on cylinder Number 1 and then start the engine at 0 Degrees if timing and as it's running advance the timing till you get a good idle OR best way is to yse a timing light and advance it to about 15 Degrees before TDC
Thanks alot for this video. I have a GWM H5 with this motor(atleats an upgrade 4G69SYN as GWM calls it) and I did timing today, but that plunger tensioner did not touch the pulley's bracket after tensioning. Now I know why
The oil pump pulley thing has a trick to it because for every 1 turn of the crank the oil pump thing spIns 3 times so watch the video on the gravity trick for 2.4 4g69. You can't just set it to the mark.
the reason i’m asking, your valve cover has a nice gap on cover for timing!! mine DOES NOT, the book says point to 95 degrees same way as distributor is mounted in there is a mark on head? so i’m confused lol
I have a 2.4 2007 eclipse that is in limp mode and have tried everything.. The timing belt was recently changed if something was done wrong when replaced could it cause limp mode.. Car won't go past 45 mph.. Thanks in advance 2 anyone that could help with any advice..
Hey about two weeks ago my Dad bought a Mitsubishi Chariot Expo with a 2.4L engine same as that one. But he told me that when coming back home from work, the car started loosing power. We bought new spark plugs the car made it home but it broke the timing belt. We bought new timing belt, new hydraulic belt tensioner, new ignition coil and cables. Set it up on time but the car cranks and when its about to start it somehow gets stuck and tries again to start. We checked Fuses and the valve and everything is in order. If you have any idea of what is happening let me know.
Have you done a Leak Down Test on it? If you don't have a leak down tester go rent one or buy one. See what your firing order is and test each cylinder with the leak down tester. Ifnyou hear a lot of air coming from intake or exhaust possibel your valves are bent. It's normal if you hear a tiny bit or air escaping you just don't wanna hear a tone.
@@trxtech3010 Ok Idk if anyone is listening out there but here goes, so one night it was raining really hard, I parked my car, and got out, got back in 10 minutes later and the car wouldn’t crank, wouldn’t start, I tried to jump it nothing, got my car towed home. I replace the crank and cam shaft sensors, replaced the battery, the starter, the fuel pump, and all the fuses....after this, car now cranks, but that’s it, it just cranks, if I do it long light smoke comes from the engine bay, I mean really light smoke, if u were looking hard u wouldn’t even see it....I am stumped on what the problem could be, I’ve invested a lot of money into this car, and I’d really like to get it running again, it’s 80% modded, full body kit, after I get it running again I’m gonna throw on the fender flares, side skirts and get it wrapped, I swapped the hood for a carbon fiber with air vents it was $1200 the body kit was $700, I’ve put on new headers, ignition coils, please if anyone could help...Mitsubishi eclipse spyder gs 2004
@@alwayyssgone The smoke it because the starter was getting hot from cranking so long, The starter is probably fine after getting a little warm. However I would go rent a Noid Light Kit from autozonr and make sure that you have Injector Pulse and Spark Signal to the coils. It's an easy test. You just unplug the injectors and plug in the Noid Light into the injectors and the ignition coil plugs and crank the care those lights should flash. If not and acter all the things you replaced it's possible the ECU got wet and freid... If you need one email @ ryan94james@gmail.com and we can work out a deal.
HELP!! i did a head gasket replacement on a 1995 mighty max, long story short,, it’s NOT FIRING the 2 inside cylinders?? can someone please help me?? thank you!
Double checkyour Firing Order make sure the Plug Wires are not backwards. Check your distrubtor Cap. Also check the 2 middle spark plugs, I have seen where people drop the plugs down into the spark plug tubes and close the gap on the spark plugs by accident and causes the plug to not be able to spark.
@@trxtech3010 i’m trying to find out, where the timing mark is for the top cam in head? at 12 or timing to a 45 o’clock ?? i’ve seen both, but the manual i have says at 45 o’clock so! also i’ve heard of many people said they have a hard time with getting into time? anybody know?

Not sure also what you mean in thr "crappy Diagram" and "firing order out of place" these cars are Coil Over and it's pretty hard to get the firing order off... Even if the firing oder was not right it uses 2 Coils and uses what is called a Waste Spark in the exhaust stroke, so either way if somehow you're stupid enough to do that it's simple and swapping 2 plug boots over......... You must be frustrated because you're having issues you can't seem to figure out.
Straight to the point and clearly explained.. good video, thanks.

You sir are the best!!! So in depth! So detailed! Now I don't have to pay a mechanic to do a timing belt job!!
haha glad to hear that I helped you get it done.
Interesting to see the cam pulley still using ink mark to time it. Can we still refer the key inside the cam pulley?
How many revolutions to turn it by hand so all the marks line up so you know you have it set right ?

The 4g64 sohc is a non interference engine so throwing a belt won't damage the valves
Actually yes they're 100% a Interference engine.
@@trxtech3010 but they're literally not an interference engine. With a 4G63 head they are but the 4G64 is non-interference.
The 8 valve version yes. But the 16valve version is interference.

How did you find the right stroke
i have my lil harmonic belt slipping n burning up n i cant dind out why it’s moving if i have it tight but not to tight
How to make sure that timing belt are to tight or to lose because I'm replacing that timing belt
Just make sure when it is on there it is tight enough that it should not easily flex in and out when you push and pull on it.
