    Great video, did my 03 Outlander today using this guide with no issues ...the only thing that I noticed is that the larger roller could not be change out in mine without removing the power steering compressor, and the alternator is in the rear of the vehicle. I think there was a design change after that year.
    And that water pump thing was a pain in the ass to put back on small hands help.

    Help! What do you do if you forget that tensioner is out and you turn the crank and cam where the cam mark is at the bottom and the crank slips the belt leaving you out of time? Will you bend valves by turning the camshaft and crank independently of each other?

    Ive always used fast orange handsoap to remove the rest of the ghasket.. just dab a little bit on your finger and firmly rub the leftover ghasket,used shop towel to wipe off residue(do not use water)and your all set.

    If ypur already having to replace stuff that you didnt replace last time then its not wise of you to assume that you will be "ok" with the tensioner. Id replace it regardless just to save the comeback or in your case 2nd comeback

    • @Cheepchipsable
      @Cheepchipsable 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, generally replace everything, including water pump to save time in the long run. Kits aren't that expensive. (unless you have good records on the vehicle and know exactly when everything was replaced.)
      A "cheap" repair isn't cheap if you need tyo come back and do it again.

    • @Kingswood7189
      @Kingswood7189 ปีที่แล้ว

      From very recent experience ('03 galant, 2.4l sohc i4), no. You need to remove the belt tensioner cause some of the bolts are located underneath it, but the balancer shaft belt should be okay to leave. It doesn't seem like a big deal honestly as long as you keep all the gears in time, getting the new waterpump is more of a pain than timing itself. Just my $0.02. :)

    • @damon323
      @damon323 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Kingswood7189Interesting. So I do need to take off the tensioner to get the water pump off? Is there a way of keeping everything in place so it doesn’t move while I put in a new water pump?

    • @Kingswood7189
      @Kingswood7189 ปีที่แล้ว

      @damon323 yes and yes. I will say in advance, if your mitsu has over 100k miles, I'd highly recommend replacing the timing belts (cause there's actually 2. In a short summary, the easiest way to keep time on the engine is to remove the spark plugs and rotate to top dead center #1 (requires removal of the timing cover). The cam and crank sprocket doesn't move super easy, but the oil pump sprocket (bottom right sprocket) does. Just be careful touching that sprocket. I can go into more detail later, just wanted to respond back. :)

    • @damon323
      @damon323 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Kingswood7189 I completely agree, my friend actually changed the belts and the water pump about 25k miles ago. The water pump failed I believe, so I just want to change that out if it’s possible without messing with the timing belts.
