- Welcome to an introduction to Surtr. This doesn't contain the information that a vet of the character would have, mostly since he's not actually out yet. But it WILL give you all the information you need to know about Surtr and what his gameplan is so you can play as/against him more effectively, as well as some pre-season 10 item discussion

In Marvel, Surtr is a ginormous, looming giant with the theatricality of diet-Calus
In God of War, Surtr is a tired, broken but somewhat reserved man who has nothing to live for and cares only for his wife
In Smite, he's a pissed off dad with a giant sword that he drags around like a sweat-glazed lawnmower
Not sure which one I like best, but I know it's not the Marvel one
im most excited for that new defense cloak that looks absolutely insane especially for a support main like me

I like to kinda AA cancel with him, it's nothin like a real one but you can drop with the ult, knock up, get the 2 ready, stun, basic, 3 basic, 1 basic them down works wonders if you build him dmg
yeah, i love his all in combos, but you can't get them too often outside of very late game matches
If you do that in arena people collapse lol
I'll add a few more things while i'm trying him out (I still have to try the next Guide god on S10 too)
TECH SPOTTED: You can activate 2 your and blink before throwing whatever projectile you have :D i'm sure someone else has done it but hey i found it out for myself :) so i think with this in mind blink is probably a go to on him. Plus blink 3ing is honestly really good too i underestimated how good just pressing 3 and sitting on people would be.
Level order is PROBABLY 4>3>2>1 starting with 3 at level 1, 2 at level 2, 1 at level 3. His level 1 is pretty terrible no matter what you use lol but the 3 is for the area damage and passive succ. His 1's damage is pretty pitiful and mostly relies on you stacking it up, although it DOES reduce in cooldown as you level it SUBSTANTIALLY so i can see leveling it over the 3. Kinda. Okay no i can't.
Also Dawnbringer is really good on him but i need to think about where to put it given its cost and lack of any protections. Replacement for Manticore perhaps? Final item maybe??
Hey brother, I have a request/video idea man. So you think you could make a video where you kind of break down what the new item’s actually do and generally who they’d be most effective on? Like no major breaking down each piece that would take for ever lol but more so something like.. Who does the new “true damage book” work best on and how does the true damage actually work. Another being like the new glad shield.. What guardians would benefit from using it for the damage passive and why.. Etc. etc.. would definitely help the noobs.. And me.. Lol
That type of video is definitely volatile - items come and go from the meta all the time, and very few out of the actual item pool actually stick around for very long. Think about it when it comes to items like Glad Shield, Jotunn's, Reaver, Breastplate, Thebes, They've been around for donkey's years, but that means that an equal amount of items have been irrelevant/purely situational.
A good example is actually that Tablet item you mentioned, it's not very good on most gods, and even on the stance switchers where it may have a chance to be decent, it's still not great. So, say i make a video including that item as a talking point , and all i can really say about it at this point is that it's alright on some stance switchers but not great otherwise. But surely, as a result, the item isn't where hirez wants it, so it'll probably get buffed in the near future, to the point that my analysis in that video might become completely irrelevant overnight. Then it could get nerfed again immediately and you can't go the item at all.
But, if i don't give a good breakdown on the item or don't talk about it at all, then the video, in the moment at least, is useless.
So that's generally why i stopped doing for instance my patch review videos, because conjecture on items doesn't get you very far, and regardless if you're right or wrong about it, you tend to be right/wrong for a very short amount of time before you need to update it, which got tedious for me.
All that said of course i'm always down to chat about/answers questions about changes to gods and items i just grew tired of making huge videos breaking down patch changes since a lot of it felt irrelevant in 2 weeks anyways.
As for Tablet specifically the issue with that item is that it just takes way, WAY too long to stack. You can't go it over Book of Thoth because Book gives you way more damage overall for less gold, and not to mention Tablet was clearly created with Book's mana in mind, as in, Tablet is AWFUL without the bonus mana granted from Book of Thoth.
So that leaves it in a very undesirable spot where you can't START with it, you need ANOTHER stacking item first with it for it to deal damage, but it WON'T give you much damage when you buy it, or for that matter 10 minutes after you buy it, so why go it over... anything else?
I was playing him in a long match that lasted 46 minutes and I had like 80 stacks on his first ability and I was wonder how In the world would you ever reach 200 stacks in a real match I was starting to think maybe you are supposed to activate it mid auto attack to get the cleave and multi hit minions with it but no it’s an auto attack cancel ability maybe in the future they will make it easier to stack
You gotta make it a consistent thought last hitting minions like nasus in league of legends

On his 1? Yes they do, but it takes forever to feel the bonus damage so it's pretty necessary
Meh he's ok , I'm sticking with shiva he's more fun.
that's pretty agreeable. I don't LOVE how Shiva's ultimate feels compared to Surtr but i like Shiva's core kit compared to Surtr.
