His run up was just terribly inconsistent and I don’t think he even had a marked starting point. He just went to the very end of the track.

Clearly there was something throwing him off. He seemed out of it during the whole competition (mentally). Doubt the run up was any real issue compared to what was really going on inside.
@@theren8311 I don't know if you're just trying to sound smarter than me or something, but the only reason to foul a jump is because of a bad or inconstant run-up. I never said he doesn't know what a run-up is; obviously he does because he is a world champion. I was simply pointing out how inconsistent and long his run up is, which is a recipe for disaster. (Not saying he is), but if you plan to just get your speed and find your footing at the last few steps, then you are putting yourself at a disadvantage.
You're acting like the run-up and mentality are two unrelated things. You could be right that he does have some kind of consistency in his run-up that wasn't shown that day, but a bad run-up at his level only comes from bad mentality. I'm in no way saying that he didn't spend enough time beforehand perfecting his run-up, I'm saying that the run-up was effected by his mentality.
Take a shot every time I say run-up.

What is forward rotation
Ruel Martin Simply put, the jumper’s center of gravity is too far forward (over rotation), which makes it hard to maximize how much distance the athlete can get on the landing.

This sport is the most frustrating of all track/field. Why don't they use a 1 or 2 meter long take off area which will eliminate almost all fouls and all jumps will be with maximum effort with the athletes not having to worry about stepping over the line? Replays will show where the take off foot was on the take off area which will have centimeter lines. This will ensure that the longest jumper will always win. Shouldn't that be the goal?! We have the technology. Do it!!!

use 2 linesman each side or special paint on the sole shoes/take off plank or put a horizontal laser beams to verify where the actual jump starting point .

People have been talking about this for years. It’s frustrating but change is difficult. I mean, Phil SHINNICK broke the world record for long jump in 1963, but because he was just a college kid and they weren’t expecting him to break any records they didn’t take a wind reading so he was denied that world record until IAAF aka World Athletics retroactively gave him the title in 2021!!! But I’m glad they finally did! New name and new look, maybe new changes!
