@Wilhelm07121 Except it's $200 for an accessory that can only stream games from only a PS5. The Z1 Asus ROG Ally at $400 isn't terrible, but it's not even better at gaming than an OG Steam Deck, much less the OLED model because the Z1 has only a third of the compute units of the Z1 Extreme and the 7840U which the Z1 Extreme is based on. And no, even RDNA 3 isn't enough to compete with the RDNA 2 GPU in the Steam Deck. Personally, I would just get a Steam Deck OLED if you're looking for a device to play console or PC games. I'm pretty sure there's a way to stream PS5 games unofficially anyway on Steam OS. And the ROG Ally has a number of QC issues including but not limited to the microSD card slot bricking those cards because of overheating them. Not to mention many games aren't really that playable without trackpads. I would only really consider handhelds that have trackpads; for now, that would be the Steam Deck, Steam Deck OLED, Lenovo Legion Go, or Ayaneo Kun. (And the Kun is very expensive.)

@@vikingsfan2218 He replied to a post from someone saying the Z1 is stronger than the Steam Deck. Benchmarks are always done at the maximum watts a computer can handle.
Who even cares? It’s a handheld gaming PC. You shouldn’t even use it for current modern games. The original Z1 is literally more powerful than a PS4 and PS4 slim. If you’re using this to play Elden Ring or other heavy games then yea, it’s going to be bad. I have a question, im not really electronic savvy and i bought the the Z1 version online because it was affordable without realizing there was 2 versions. My question was, can the Z1 run games like genshin impact and star rail?
Would have been smarter to go down to 4 cores on CPU and keep 6 or 8 graphics cores. Maybe this is for people who only dock it? It's just a weird product either way. The Steam Deck really made a very balanced APU out if the gate, and that's what was so upsetting to the market, only Microsoft and Sony has historically been able to broker a deal for a "Console" APU and never in a handheld. AMD (well more Intel really) always pair the reasonable/usable graphics with the top processor cores, which we don't really need when mobile.
I don’t understand why everyone is all hyped about the steam deck.. you literally can use steam games and that’s it these are miniature computers I can use it for work if I wanted to… the comparison isn’t even relevant

Interesting this product not because it suits everybody and is great but because it looks like it needs something better to make it valuable or more competitive

I have a gaming PC, and also have the Ally Z1 Extreme. I play heavy games on PC anyway, so if the non-extreme version was marketed properly, and was always noticably cheaper, I may have got the non-extreme version myself.
It is 400 dollars rn
Same I'm on the fence between the regular z1 and the z1 extreme ....I currently have a gaming PC with RTX 4080 .....I would just take this handheld with me only when I'm on the go ....I have a gaming laptop as well but it's so darn heavy and a pain to to take out of my bag and find somewhere like a desk to game on
Buying it on marketplace for $350 tommorow will update in repliws
So did you buy one?
Cap
Rip
Is the z1 ally about the same as an OLED steam deck? As far as fps goes?
Yes, on paper, the z1extreme is close to a ps5 but not in real-world performance. Not even close, ps5 slaps this handheld around and every other handheld.
Thanks for video, I wanted to see would it be worth it after the price drop
At 400$ the ROG Ally Z1 version doesn't seem like a bad value, still more powerful than the Steamdeck
if you watched the video, the steam deck actually out performed the z1 at 15 watts. 7:50
@@brandonchan5150that’s hardware. But the software makes the steamdeck. better.
@@brandonchan5150 But Z1 outperforms it at 30W... so no, Steamdeck isn't more powerful. Saying "Its more powerful than the Z1 if you handicap its wattage" isn't really the flex you think it is.
@@RyanSaotome No one said the SD is the more powerful device. He said it outperforms the Z1 Ally at 15W. And playing at 15W isn't a "handicap". Performance at low wattages is an important metric for people interested in maximizing battery life or minimizing thermals/fan noise
@@vikingsfan2218 He replied to a post from someone saying the Z1 is stronger than the Steam Deck. Obviously he's arguing its more powerful when its not, only in certain scenarios where you value battery over performance. And its great for the Steam Deck that its better at lower wattages, but nobody seriously debates performance based on low wattages for Computers.
I use mine for older games like Dark Souls 1, indie horror games and lower ended games you can only get on steam. Calling it a waste is your opinion and all these other “PC Master race” individuals. 🤣
I had this incident to when best buy brought me the Z1 extreme. I didn't even know there's two verisons.versions. but expensive, but took it home anyways
This is funny, that's exactly what happens to me a couple days ago when this was on sale. I got the regular Z1 and now I'm waiting to receive it so I can just return it lol. I guess I should have been a little bit more research first, huh?
Did u end up returning it for the z1 extreme?
Happened to me too. Bought the Z1, played it for 6 hours, and sent it back for the extreme.
As someone who started playing single
Player games over multiplayer games, the z1 will be a better purchase. Still be able to play my games at a loss of performance I would get with the extreme version.
The z1 still beat the steam deck I have both the z1 and steam deck oled there’s a lot of games the steam deck barely run 30fps on in 720 and the z1 will run them at 1080p at 30 to 45 so I don’t get your comparison there
Z1 is actually slower than steam deck according to benchmarks I have seen
@@killermoon635 I have both and the z1 out performs the steam deck in just about every game I play they are close a lower tdp
Absolutely right
Sorry for being dumb, but I need to know... Is the ROG Ally RC71L-NH001W same as Rog Ally Z1 Extreme?
Yes.
@@aLm0e but why it has two names?
@@Ryan-zn4km Because It's model name, and the other is for customers. Almost every type of product has it. Like Samsung SM-S921BG is simply Samsung Galaxy S24, etc.
Brett! Have you thought of making a video with a minipc / steamdeck/ rog ally with a lapdock? Is that even possible?
this is the same guy that promoted the playstation portal as revolutionary for like a week straight.
Say it like you mean it man. This isn't a news video, being open and unbiased is not engaging for a review. Your bias is what makes a video review more useful than a spec sheet. I don't need to know what other people might think. Just tell me what you think.
I just got the Ally on sale at Best buy for 550. It indeed was the extreme model.
The fact that it exists is a pro-consumer win.
Finally! More Z1 vs Steam Deck content. The budget scene has been uncovered lately.
the rog ally was a big disappointed, to finish configuring windows took more than 3 hours, i was like wtf...and the gaming benchmarks of course dont match the ones that you can see on youtube from reviewers
$399 is not bad... really if you want to find something around that price point as portable PC, the Z1 wont disappoint. Only you want to play 3D games
Which is better between rog Ally z1 not extreme vs steam deck?
Steam Deck is faster than Ally Z1 when both are at 15w
@@killermoon635but most will have the handheld plugged in so.... there is that

I am not agree with your opinion ❌because recently I bought ROG ally Extreme worth $650❤ and I have steam. Deck to but I mist say rog ally extreme is far far much batter thn Steam।... Really I love eog ally extreme it's just wowwwww.. And I am using it like an small PC..❤ what an awesome consoul I love it
I have a question, im not really electronic savvy and i bought the the Z1 version online because it was affordable without realizing there was 2 versions. My question was, can the Z1 run games like genshin impact and star rail?
Yes but with new triple A games like starfield it will suck
So at $399 is the standard worth it over the Oled SD.
Maybe, but thats cuz the SD starts at $500 ish now for the 512 Oled
Would have been smarter to go down to 4 cores on CPU and keep 6 or 8 graphics cores. Maybe this is for people who only dock it? It's just a weird product either way. The Steam Deck really made a very balanced APU out if the gate, and that's what was so upsetting to the market, only Microsoft and Sony has historically been able to broker a deal for a "Console" APU and never in a handheld. AMD (well more Intel really) always pair the reasonable/usable graphics with the top processor cores, which we don't really need when mobile.
Helldivers 2 runs without problems on my rog ally. On my steam deck oled it’s laggy af
Think of Z1 as a ps4. Z1 Extreme as a PS 5. Would u pay 300 bucks more to upgrade your PS4 to a PS5?
Once u put it like that hell yes !!!
I don’t understand why everyone is all hyped about the steam deck.. you literally can use steam games and that’s it these are miniature computers I can use it for work if I wanted to… the comparison isn’t even relevant
I played death stranding on the z1 chip. Had to adjust graphics but not a bad experience. Deff worth the money
I got a Z1 extreme for 350 brand new box never open. Definitely was worth it.
Where?

Where this has to be cap?

I have the Z1 and you sir are very wrong. It's an excellent device and I can do literally anything I want on it with no problems.
I got the Z 1 extreme Rog ally
Which Kontrol freeks fit on the analog sticks ?
both playstation and xbox
how about using fsr 3 fg mod in this device, less tdp more fps.
Im gonna use it for cloud gaming exclusively so its PERFECT for me. Def not a waste in several scenarios.
I got it for $299 and so much better than my laptop. You cant beat that.
Z1 in the 300-350 range is a crazy deal
With the current $200 difference, I'll go with graphic settings rather than performance, I can't even tell the difference anyway, and neither can lots of people 😅, but you think the ps portal was amazing 😅😅
The Z1 extreme is a waste. Because for $200-$300 dollars more, you could get a full fledged 15" gaming laptop with an RTX 4050.
Got a z1e for 549$ and canceled the 430$ z1 because the savings are too low.
The z1 is not a waste it is a budget version the price drop is what makes it great it has a home form people that want a budget device that runs great
So for someone who want play pc games and triple A titles should buy extreme version it's maybe more expensive but it's 50% more performance
Well, 340 isn’t a bad price right?
Thanks for the video. After watching this, I bought one.
i got my z1 for 250 open box and bought a quest 3 for the extra 300 lol
can you play gta v or red dead redemption 2 on the z1
Yes, but you need to play rdr2 on low 720p. On z1e with charger 1080p medium.
Well, actually, this console the asus rog ally z1 non extreme is pretty good for the price they sell it in best buy or sams club if you had a nintendo switch and you like to transfer for pc this is the best option for price quality I used to play injustice 2 and with ultra graphics and runs pretty good or I play minecraft java with the cobblemon mod with shaders and runs pretty well but my honest opinion is if you don't care about the optimization in pc games and play it I really recommend it but if you care about potential and runs more bulky games like god of war or another games in ultra graphics well I recommend to you the asus rog ally z1 extreme or x
a regular z1 for 400usd be to bad
Yep, I was about to get tricked and order this. But after checking reviews, I didn’t order it.
lol this guy a clown 🤡 steam deck does not play many games
I feel like they put this out so they wouldn't have to drop the price of the extreme.
Coming from a dude who thinks the PS portable is good and Apple Vision Pro yea no thanks
Interesting this product not because it suits everybody and is great but because it looks like it needs something better to make it valuable or more competitive
Oh that's easy, keep the Z1 chips but have Asus work with Ryzen and optimize them for the Ally as valve did with AMD for the steam deck but they didn't do that
Well if it is a waste i challenge you to give it to me
Lmao This is my favorite comment 😂
@@SimplyBreana he is afraid to send..bro is scared
Seriously, I think Asus is thinking too much of itself. 700 bucks for the next Ally X? WTF?
Your choice
Ok this might have saved my some from some frustration. The extreme it’s with the ~$100 extra.
Z1 is weaker than even the 7640 by a decent margin, I thought it would be an equal.
sooooooo steam deck oled is better than z1x ally?
Hell no Asus better
