Really underrated unit. In my games it was one of my best units and survives a lot of aggression. I always leave the ancient with Captain last to have 4 OC.
You forgot Captain Tycho for the Blood Angels. Assault, Heavy or rapide fire 1 for every range weapon each turn for free. + a huge damage range and melee threat ! For the blood 🩸
I think the issue is that they are limited in equipment and don't do a lot of damage. That -1 to wound is really good, especially with -1 to hit and double OC!
I magnetized one of my Sternguard Squads so i can use them as Company Heroes. They should be the bodyguard unit for my Azrael...........BUT.....Azrael cant lead this unit anymore. Thanks GW. Sure Sternguard are the better unit to lead for him but you should use 10 to be realy effectiv. The heroes are such a nice cheap unit...i am so happy kitbashed them and not bought a new box...
My general issue was that the points cost for the Captain buffs wouldn’t go far enough with a small unit. Uriel Ventris on the other hand I take for his deep strike bonus and is a good candidate for CHs.
He defo is a good option. It is a points sink, but you basically have a unit that is very hard to move with the-1 to hit and wound, and with benefits of cover and a free armour of contempt, changing ap2 to ap0.
I'm surprised to here about them being in comp lists. As much as I love them cosmetically speaking, whenever I looked at their stats I always thought they were too all over the place to be particularly useful.
It would be difficult to rationalise taking this unit over Sword Brethren or Bladeguard, arguably even Sternguard. The -1 to Wound is really nice, but feels wasted on a backfield objective holder, and they really shouldn't be on the frontline given the lack of an Invuln or melee-blender capability to keep them safe.
@bombkangaroo wasted? Their sole job is to stand there and be too difficult to move. Put them on your home objective, maybe with an Infiltrator squad near them to screen, and good luck moving them. Too much in the game wounds bladeguard an inner circle companions on 2+
@@BlackJackalGaming To me it seems like a waste of a captain for a unit that's just gonna sit there doing nothing. If you could build the unit for shooting or melee like the index command squad, then sure, but as is you'll get to shoot the one heavy bolter while the rest sit there.
Why would u lock up almost 200 points to "babysit" an objective. With precision and damage 2, plus a captain in this squad, is pretty clearly supposed to be up front doing melee work, although then those guns are a little wasted. This unit is not specialized, but an expensive, generalist unit. Certainly not for "babysitting"
That's only 1 S5 weapon that has precision. You're unlikely to kill a character with that 1 weapon. The rest of the squad are S4 0ap. This unit is not a melee threat unless you include a captain and a lieutenant, plus a strat. That's quite expensive.
@@BlackJackalGaming U have to include a captain. It is an expensive unit. 2, 2damage melee hits, kill over half 1/2 the characters in the game. U can strat precision for the captain too. They certainly are not ideal for melee, it is an overpriced generalist unit, but its quite silly to waste a captain and a champion "babysitting" an objective in the back of the map
@doctordoubledakka3939 don't forget that it is a point scoring game. All but guaranteeing scoring that objective every game, plus potential secondaries, ad not a waste of points. Damage 2 only matters if the character fails their invulnerable save. Plus, you then have the rest of the unit to deal with, which can potentially just out OC you and still hold the objective
Heavy intercessors "babysit" for less points, Standard intercessors even cheaper with a melee weapon on seargent, plus sticky if they die @@BlackJackalGaming
@doctordoubledakka3939 they're not as durable and stickied objectives can easily be taken. They all serve a purpose and depends on your opponent for how successful they will be.
Company Heroes are a cracking little unit. Plenty of buffs on them and are great objective holders.
I happen to be a fan of running both bladeguard variants of the Captain and Lieutenant with this unit.
The added wounds and decent pistols does help, especially if the rest of the unit is wiped

Aye, gotta keep that OC in there

I didn't want to include the index chapters as they might not survive the cull!
Ventris with Company Heroes bangs
He's a good option. Let's him use his ability and keeps him safe
The Primaris Captain combo is dangerous
Its a goos combo
It’s so weird seeing them labeled a must take. I remember when they came out everyone was like, “meh”.
Never stopped me though. Liked the minis

Literally built one of these this week
Get painting it!
They're popping up in a lot of lists
It's a popular unit atm
If only they had access to weapon options still, or could allow an Apothecary for a proper Command Squad back
An apothecary would be nice. Double checked his datasheet to see if he could join

Yeah, you have to use 10 to make them worthwhile. It's a shame Azrael lost access to company heroes

Dead on man, solid take

There use is holding objectives, hiding characters that have useful abilities, doing actions, etc. They're tough to take down, especially in vanguard
I bought and built them to use with Azrael for that 4++ on the unit. GW took that option away before I could use them.
It's a pain when GW do that. Hopefully they give it back at the next dataslate to give DA more options
As Black Templars player, I have no place for this
Unless you run an SM detachment, then you can

Love me a character unit
Don't we all
I like how azrael was the best character for them so of course thats not allowed anymore
Yep, I did double check him as he would be a great character to include
Not to be confused with hit rts series “company of heroes”
Haha I noticed that as i said it and left it in.
The only SW character that could lead them right now would be Ragnar, right? Feels like he'd be a poor fit for them.
He definitely isn't a good fit. SW will have a codex update for leaders so hard to judge them atm. Plus a range refresh might be around the corner
Good stuff
Ty
I wonder how to use them alongside Dante. 😅
Distracted them with these guys and then hit them in the face with Dante?
@@BlackJackalGaming feels like they will be slowing down Dante.😅
