Thank you. This was my introduction to the electrical mysteries of a camper. Wonderfully logical presentation. I will watch it again and look out for your other podcasts.
Hi again Craig, would you consider putting together a video explaining the basic set up of the tucana as well as what you would consider a basic set up to get on the road for a weekend away...?😊😇
Hi Cate! Great idea and happy to do that.... it may take another week or two as I ha e a back log of productions to be finished first. I will however get to it soon as I can, as I like the idea, might add to my general review that I want to do too.
Hi Craig We've just brought a 2nd hand 2022 Tucana. Thanks So much for your video's on the electrics, from which I have been able to work out most things. I have a couple of things that I am not sure about and was hoping to ask some questions. Is this something you may be able to help with, and what is it best to ask questions? i.e as a comment, or by email? Would really appreciate any help you could provide Regards Steve
Hi there, appreciated your commentary. I have a new (april 22) tucana. Loving it but am having a problem with charging battery on mains whilst in storage - it's at 12.1v at present but my victron app is saying I'm 85% charge in battery. May be getting terms mixed up. Can u help?
Hi Jenny! It certainly doesn’t look like it’s charging. If mains power from a 240 source is being fed to the van and that is turned on. Firstly I’ll need to ask is your app set to charge? Just having power to it won’t be enough, it needs to be turned on
@@wanderlustwithdewitco2168 hi again Craig. I have a smart shunt app which allows me to change settings but I don't know what these should be. Would a factory reset be of any help. Also I had a look at the inverter and checked the fuses which are fine, and noticed a small switch marked with chr, (is this charger?) off, and on, should this be in the on or chr position. The charger light is flashing orange when it is in the on position. Thanks for your assistance with this, cheers jenny
Yes you need to turn this on, that will now allow the Victron charger to charge your battery. Almost immediately you’ll see the “shunt” voltage go up a little and it will continue to go up till fully charged. Hope this solves your problem. ☺️
@@wanderlustwithdewitco2168 Hi again Craig. Still no joy. I think maybe my settings are still wrong. I've read the troubleshooting guide and voltage input should be between 185 and 265Vac, my output settings are set at 11.97V (that's the current state of charge according to the multi) the current is at -0.22A, power -3W. Bars on battery icon is at 1. How do I check input voltage. Info says to set charging current at between 0.1 & 0.2×battery capacity (mine is 100ah, 12V) does this mean 200ah & 24V
@@wanderlustwithdewitco2168 hi Craig I'm not sure what u mean about app being turned on.. it's connecting to multi, is that it? You were right about voltage increasing, (I live in hope) went to bed after that and checked in am, battery still going down by .1 each day since. Any ideas? Thanks for you efforts, Jenny
Hi Pam… because they are small they are relatively easy to reverse and also on some occasions you just unhook and with a little help can be pushed around. Some folks have installed a power jockey wheel on the front and then can fit it in very tight spaces. ☺️
Hi Russell… thank you! Yes it does charge off the car alternator through the Anderson plug. Having said that it will only be a trickle charge. To maximize the charge potential.. in other words if you want to get a high current charge in you would need to fit a dc to dc charger either in the camper or in the vehicle to the Anderson plug. Better closer to the battery you are charging for best results
Hi Danielle! Have you seen the video I did on the inverter? It shows where the inverter is. Regarding the “orange” switch , it’s the isolator switch which basically will isolate anything on the power side or load side of the battery. I’ll do a short video on this soon. Basically it will stop power going to your lights, fridge and inverter. Note the battery will still receive charge from your solar panels and Anderson plug with the isolator switch open. Hope this helps?
Great question! Yes it will charge through an Anderson Plug however unless you install a DC to DC Charger in that line.. ( like in the camper somewhere prior to the camper battery) it will basically only trickle charge. Reason being most cars have alternators which drop the charging voltage once the battery in the car is optimized. Does this make sense or would you like further clarification on this?
Thank you

Christine, thanks for the message.. any questions you have, more than happy to offer advice. Kind regards
Thank you. Clear enough for a total rookie to understand.
Thanks for the simple explanation and excellent diagram. We are considering purchasing a tucana teardrop and I’m doing my research....
Very well informed review, will follow this young man for additional information re off grid power supply.
Thank you, very helpful 😊
Most welcome and thank you for the comment! ☺️
Awesome video mate! Can't wait to see more of your channel. Top notch, well explained!
Awesome video. thanks for the tips! 😉

can you use the anderson plug on the trailer to power an electric jockey wheel

Thanks Craig. I just ordered a Tucana and this video was very informative. Tom.
Thanks for the positive comment Tom!

Are the campers east to reverse, on my own, thinking og getting one

Great video , can you tell me does the battery charge off your car when you are running??

sorry about the spelling
Can you charge from the towing vehicle using an Anderson Plug? If "Yes" how does this work? How long to recharge - that sort of thing.
