      Thanks so much Felix! That's a great question. The best way is to put yourself in their shoes and ask "would this feel crappy to me if this person reached out to me now?" You have to divorce yourself from the emotion and the attachment to your product/service and play the long game.

    • @ElevenLightsMedia
      @ElevenLightsMedia  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Great question! I think the biggest issue is that people say it but don't uphold it in the rest of the message by keeping it short. They write a short essay so it's difficult to buy into their intention. If you say you want to keep it short and not take up their time then follow through and couple that with the rest of the steps, it should be well received :) If not, keep calm and carry on.

      Not if you are professional. There is a way to approach anything professionally or unprofessionally. I think you have to apply critical thinking in the process as well. This is just something that worked for me at the time and it was said tongue-in-cheek, not flirtatiously :)

    What is the meaning of F name?

    • @ElevenLightsMedia
      @ElevenLightsMedia  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's the code you put in in your email newsletters and the code pulls in your database's first name. The problem is that people don't do it properly so instead of the newsletter saying 'Hi Saim,' it says 'Hi F_name' or something to that effect :) I hope I've explained that clearly.

    HELP! I had two connections who used a generic request but I did tell them both why I loved their profiles then informed them about the position I applied for and I asked for details about their experience with the company. I know my message was read but no reply. Should I send a new voice message would that be too much? I really want to work for this company and just want an opportunity to showcase my abilities.

    • @ElevenLightsMedia
      @ElevenLightsMedia  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Derricka, a voice message could be a nice touch especially if you are keen to work at the company and want to express your enthusiasm. With that said, you could always try and make yourself known to them over on Twitter as well to see if you can get any traction there. Sometimes people are more willing to have a conversation on Twitter than LinkedIn.

    i think that receiving voice messages from people you don't know is kind of creepy

    • @ElevenLightsMedia
      @ElevenLightsMedia  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Well it can be - especially men sending them to women. But if you keep it light, quick and 100% professional then there's no reason it has to be that way. You could even follow up with a 'what's in the VM above' written message. Again, it's all contextual and it's always great to make yourself known in other ways first - for example, interacting with their content and leaving comments. That makes the VM less confronting or out of the blue.

      Interesting. The first point was about templating and leaving in "hi [name]" instead of personalising it by saying "Hi Kasra" - Using people's names is important in order to personalise the message.

    Yeah right..of course a little flirting works if you’re a woman. Come on. As a man I can’t talk about “stalking” anyone. This crap only works if you’re a woman connecting to a man

    • @ElevenLightsMedia
      @ElevenLightsMedia  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I use stalking as an affectionate term for doing your research on someone which anybody can do regardless of gender. The CMO I was speaking with is also part of a company that is not corporate and would welcome this kind of terminology. I don't flirt with people I'm trying to connect with and I don't appreciate the implication. All of these tips are legitimate and can be used by everyone. Further to that, I expect that anyone applying these tips will augment the language according to their personality. Have a nice day.

      @@ElevenLightsMedia you may feel that what you’re doing isn’t flirting but in reality, as a man, I can tell you that it is, and it does make it more enticing to engage. Just being honest. And the fact that he invites you to meet up is another telling sign that this flirting has worked. I can tell you for a fact that as a man, that type of language would never fly and for a fact I wouldn’t get an invitation for drinks

    • @ElevenLightsMedia
      @ElevenLightsMedia  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@maxdanielstrauss7735 No, you don't get to define what I'm doing out of context. The invitation was to a fully occupied office that is largely female employees, owned and run by a female.
      I do agree that you couldn't use the word 'stalking' and you shouldn't. It was my languaging at the time based on my personality and long standing jokes WITHIN the marketing industry that we get good at knowing alot about people and brands because it's our job.
      Irrespective of what anyone thinks I did or my intentions, you're missing the point to focus only on one word. It's a very quick and simple change. Don't play the sexism card with me. I don't use it and I don't buy it. You can use the tips or not but arguing about it isn't going to get anyone any leads or connections.
      Best to you.

      @@ElevenLightsMedia I’m actually not arguing. I simply stated my opinion twice and I’m not taking anything away from your video. It’s great content in general. That one phrase stood out and I wanted to share my opinion on it. You seem more worked up over this than I would have expected you to.

      @@maxdanielstrauss7735 Your original tone of voice warranted the response I gave. Go back and read it.
      And I will absolutely stand up and respond where necessary when someone (that I don’t personally know) makes comments (as you did further down) about my intentions - especially when they reflect negatively on me.
      I welcome feedback but this wasn’t approached with grace.
      With all that said, and had this been addressed with a little more gentleness, I would have said that it’s not a word I’d use 2 years on. Not for any reason other than I think it can be crass.
