Just did my fist tub. It went relatively well. The tub I was working on was older style and had a very curvy face and it was a challenge to spread the product evenly over these areas. The drain is in fact the hardest part ..as mentioned in the video. I think making some sort of plug system would be in the best interest of the manufacturer. Maybe something that threads onto the existing drain pipe.?? I removed the drain cover and made 3 levels of protection and it turned out really well. My plumber friend came and checked it out and was pretty blown away by the results. The material flowed right to the tile line...almost needs no caulking and looks smooth like glass. We added a new overflow cover and drain cover and it looks brand new. This video was playing as i worked (in real time) and it was perfect. Thank you for posting and promoting this great product.

What about the quantity of Epogel 2K kit. I received gloss white for $150.00 which is less than one gallon. I am assuming it must be 1/2 gallon, however, the measurement is not listed. Can I be certain this kit will cover a cast iron tub 57.5Lx30”Wx16” deep?

For older tubs the Lysol toilet bowl ( BLUE ) works the best. Take extra time also working the lysol into the corners and areas of the corners . It really works great along with a nice 80 grit sanding. Great information i got from the other videos prepping the tub properly. Thanks for this video for the taping information and drip paper area. Thumbs UP! Subscribed 🤩👍👍

I have watched several videos. This one I like the best. I am going to recast my bathtub today. I am a little nervous because it is for a house that I am selling but after this video I feel confident.
THANK YOU!! I’m ordering a kit next week after a year of trying to build up my courage. This video makes the process seem a lot less scary. The last time I had my tub refinished, it was $700. That was almost 10 years ago so I’m sure it would be at least $1,000 now. I contacted your customer service to find out what you recommend for stripping off the old refinishing. They said Citrustrip and it’s done a great job of removing the old finish without a lot of work.
Like a few others have said, I'm working up the courage (lol). Got it in my cart, on Amazon, right now. I love thhose longform video, to see it from beginning to end. Helps me realize that I can also do it. Thank you very much, for making this.

We just bought our first house and I hate the beige shower stall we have.. I really would love to have a white refinished shower stall 😉🙏🏼👍🏼
Watching now to apply later today. Using white but my tub is almond. I’d like to do mine too. Doing both kids runs from 1950’s and 60’s tubs. Had to strip first from brush on epoxy that peeled in both.

Great video, even better is the product. Do your prep work first, then follow the video as you go. My 23 year old tub looks brand spanking new. Time to think about doing my shower.
Funny you should mention black tint. I just covered the black to brighten up the bathroom. I am doing a drop in corner jetted tub. Just finished and looking good. I will wait until its dry before removing my tape on the jets, drain, etc. It did take nearly 2 kits to do this tub though. I still have to do the large corner shower. Hopefully it goes well. I do love the non toxic aspect as we have 5 dogs. Hopefully you can do a demo on some non standard units like I am doing. I think some people less brave or handy than me would love to see that.
I’m planning to use a manual suction thingy like for heavy gear oil extraction to pull the excess from the drain instead of relying on scooping out. Thoughts?

My tub has a few significant overhanging sections. Will the product flow properly on such sections, or will it create drops want to sag from the gravity?
Thank you for the great video. Received you product from Amazon this past weekend and will be attempting this tomorrow. I have a basement underneath and open access to the tub's plumbing, so I'll be removing the drain. My plan was to cover the drain hole with a small plastic cup, leave the cup in place till I am done scooping most of the product from the tub, remove cup and let the product drain through the whole into a bucket below. I'm assuming this should leave and even layer around the drain hole. This sound about right? Thanks again for the video. If this works out well I'll be doing a few sinks next.
I would recommend leaving the tape on then babysit it and keep wiping excess material away like the directions state if you do it this way you could end up with a mess
@@RefinishedBathSolutions Thank you for the reply. That's how I did it, scooping out the taped-off drain. Besides a few runs, I'm very happy with the quality of the finish. Will be doing the bathroom sink next!
Hello, Yes this product will work over the fiberglass material in general, however for surrounds we no longer recommend our pour on kits as the application is too difficult. For the tub, shower pan, sinks projects like this, the product is still perfect but for vertical surfaces we recommend our roll on product. Our roll on product is a much more user friendly application, being a directly rollable, 2 coat application and it is able to be applied on the tub as well if preferred. So in short yes, it will work on fiberglass material however for the surround, I would recommend our roll on two coat kit. If you have any more questions please give us a call at 877-882-2278.
I ordered a kit and am doing this tomorrow. I'm a bit worried because your demo is on a new tub. Mine will need to cover a lot of imperfections on an old sanded tub. Will it work well?
How long does it take to fully dry? Also I have an all metal tub from 1955 and it has an overflow hole that has a big turn knob ! How do you take that off to glaze behind it?
Hi Laura it typically takes around 24 - 36 hours for it to dry fully! It can take up to 30 days to cure however that does not affect when you can use the surface, you are able to use it once it is fully dry! As for taking your overflow cover off does it pull off or have a screw at the bottom of it?
I wish you had shown how to remove the tape at the floor. I am afraid I will end up pulling the new finish off. My plan is to cut it with a utility knife at the edge?
Hello. I followed the instructions and let the bathtub dry for 72 hours before using it. I see now glaze has disappeared in one part of the tub and a sticky scar is there. Any thoughts and recommendations?
Hello, It can take up to 15 days for the tub to actually cure, this doesn't mean the tub cant be used but it needs to be used with caution. I am not sure what you mean when you say a stick scar, but I am assuming you are referring to the material being tacky, this will happen if not all part B is mixed in properly. If you have any more questions please feel free to call us at 877-TUB-CAST.
@@RefinishedBathSolutions thank you. I mean the tub has a slight deep scratch in that same spot which is still sticky, leaving a rough surface about 3-4 inches. Shall I leave it to dry regardless of the rough surface?
i have a tough to describe Q. can you define 'excess' as in the excess product on the bottom of the tub. im about to do this for the first time and im very concerned about how much it too much AND too little product on the bottom of the tub. if you have too much (even a little too much) on the bottom, wont that mess up the bottom? How much do you scoop up and how much do you leave on the bottom? thanks for any help you can provide
Typically you can see where it's pooled and can scoop that excess out. But if you were to leave it and not remove any excess then when its fully dry and hardened you could sand and buff it how you want.
after cleaning the tub, is it okay to use rubbing alcohol to dry up the water splotches? If so, is it okay to use the winter green rubbing alcohol? how long with a hair dryer? I don't have a heat gun.
If my cast iron bathtub is not installed (currently standing in a garage), can I just leave the drain hole open and put some sort of a container underneath to collect all the material, that is drained? Or is it still better to tape things?
Hi, thank you for commenting! We have updated our packing and it does come in a plastic pail now. If you have any other questions please feel free to give us a call at 877-882-2278. Thank you!
I did this tonight. Followed the instructions feom beginning to eneveonce everything was done leveling it looked perfect. I closed the bathroom door went back about 2 hours later to check & the outside looked like it had been rained on! Huge splotches & drip makes EVERYWHERE! I dont understand...the inside is perfect but the outside is absolutely horrible!
Hi, thank you for commenting. The front apron/outside of the tub is a common spot for the Ekopel to struggle with adhesion as it holds a lot of soap scum and build up. We typically recommend sanding this completely level and smooth to the touch, you may need to recoat the area. Please feel free to give us a call at 877-882-2278 if you have any questions!
. . . when you scooped out the drain, and then used a towel to wipe, your shoulder blocked your technique . . . really appreicate your continued narrative during this whole project, good presentation and "you've got buffed shoulders too" . . . grins
If it dosent have flex then how does it hold up to dropping heavy shampoo bottles and kids banging on it with plastic toys. The thickness with lack of bonding agent has got to be problematic. When Acrylic Urethane dries its like rubber and flexes. All fiberglass tubs and shower pans flex some.. have you ever tried it with a bonding agent? It would probably effect the flow-out
How does Ekopel 2K compare to Rustloeum? Ekopel is a German product? Ekopel is not that much more expensive than Rustloeom, I want something that will last forever and not peel. Thank you.
Ekopel is much thicker than Rustloeom it dries about an 8th of an inch thick, and is like cement. With all the proper prep ekopel will last 20 years no peels. It's also completely odorless, non toxic, pet safe and eco friendly. Ekopel is like a bathtub in a can. If you want a product that's actually going to last you I would recommend Ekopel 2K!!
If it's steel use a larger razor scraper and 40-60 grit. A 5-in-1 works good around the edges and back. Remove it all. This material and many others will make bottom layer lift during the drying process as it's catalyst active and generates heat. Not sure how the longevity will be with this product. They don't use a bonding agent between the gelcoat and their product. The epoxy will stick to gelcoat if sanded well, however, a steel tub with porcelain will be a different story. Porcelain is not pores and dosent sand well. I'm assuming that they don't use a bonding agent so they can sell to the public as the bonding agent isn't offered for public sell and must be handled carefully to prevent injury. A trade off that could definitely effect the durability and duration of service
About a year after using ekopel refinish, a light brown streak has emerged down the middle of the tub.. any suggestions on how to cover or remove this streak?
UPDATE: In fact it was a (Lysol) disinfectant spray I had used for a couple months. It coated the surface.. and then slowly streamed toward the drain when wet from use of the shower. But a residue would build up on the floor of the tub, in a streaming fashion. I eventually figured it out and began to only used bleach based cleaner.. then over several cleanings.. it was gone.
Note that the distributor, including in its response comments for this video above, explicitly stated that bleach should never be used on the refinished bathtub. Scrubbing Bubbles was recommended. @@skippyjammers2747
1 pour. Is a pour technically a coat. Application. That's the word I was looking for.. 1 Application. I should have wore my respirator while applying it😁
We often demonstrate on new tubs however we do have videos of prep on our channel. The prep for all refinishing with Ekopel is the same and is demonstrated well in the Roll On video. You can always go to our website refinishedbathsolutions.com to check out the FAQ section. You will find the answer to this and many other questions there. Happy refinishing!
24-36 hours for it to be completely dry and hardened but it can take up to 30 days to cure. You can still use this while it cures the cure time is different from the dry time.
Primer. With this stuff by a spray on oil base primer like Kilz. Red and white can. Oh yea... always sand rust down to good metal. Rust dosent stop on its own..
the material would get in and can dry like cement so it would clog the drain. If its clogs your strain you would have tp call a plumber to remove the pipes.

Taking phone calls and texts during an instructional video, and not editing it out, is really inconsiderate of the time of your viewers. Think of the 7,000 views x the 60 to 90 secs of wasted time each. Edit the video.

Yes absolutely

We recommend scrubbing bubbles to clean, nothing with bleach, and nothing too abrasive.

Does this help with hard water spots that keep reappearing after cleaning the tub (cast iron tub)? We definitely need this

after cleaning the tub, is it okay to use rubbing alcohol to dry up the water splotches?
If so, is it okay to use the winter green rubbing alcohol?
how long with a hair dryer? I don't have a heat gun.
yes that would be fine to do. And just until its dry.
I don't think you would want to use the green one... I think it has stuff in it that might not make the product stick... just use the regular
Use acetone.. drys better and evaporates more completely

IS THE DRAIN EASY TO REMOVE AFTER IT CURED
As well as that black would be awesome
do I have to pour it.. or can I use the roller and just roll it on, out of a paint tray?
ekopel has to be poured on or it would be applied too thin and cause yellowing and streaking
It would also lift while rolling and trap air bubbles that will cause tiny air pockets called bubbles and they love to peel

In my 20 years of painting you might want to make a full color collection i have almost seen it all
Do I need to fill chips before I use this kit if so what do I use . Thank you
yes fill any cracks, chips, holes, dents, or pitted areas with car bondo
I have drain removed, so how do you recommend taping it off ? I can get to the bottom side of the tube.
You can tape the drain and make a tape dam so half tape in air half tape flat on bottom this will prevent material from getting into drain.
Find a paper cup that fits the hole. Remove before completely drying
Please feel free to give us a call at 877-882-2278 if you have any questions!
. . . when you scooped out the drain, and then used a towel to wipe, your shoulder blocked your technique . . . really appreicate your continued narrative during this whole project, good presentation and "you've got buffed shoulders too" . . . grins
Thank you for your comment! We appreciate it. More videos coming soon!
Will this work on a ABS plastic garden tub
yes it will just make sure there is no flex, if there is a flex that would need to be fixed first.
It would probably effect the flow-out
I’m going to be doing this soon 😅
can I use a hair dryer to help with bubbles?
YES!!! We recommend a hair dryer or heat gun after you pour to pop all bubbles.
I also want to do the tile above the tub. Could u recommend steps to apply the coating. Would 1 kit be enough? Or 2
How does Ekopel 2K compare to Rustloeum? Ekopel is a German product? Ekopel is not that much more expensive than Rustloeom, I want something that will last forever and not peel. Thank you.
Ekopel is much thicker than Rustloeom it dries about an 8th of an inch thick, and is like cement. With all the proper prep ekopel will last 20 years no peels. It's also completely odorless, non toxic, pet safe and eco friendly. Ekopel is like a bathtub in a can. If you want a product that's actually going to last you I would recommend Ekopel 2K!!
What do you use to remove old paint from the bathtub?
peel up what you can then sand the rest smooth. Then etch and deep clean with Lyol Power. No need to strip the whole thing.
What gritt sand papper sand tub with?
40 to 60 for a steel tub w/ porcelain and 220 for fiberglass.. just enough to scuff it up.. not to the fiberglass
we recommend 220-320 grit sandpaper
About a year after using ekopel refinish, a light brown streak has emerged down the middle of the tub.. any suggestions on how to cover or remove this streak?
UPDATE: In fact it was a (Lysol) disinfectant spray I had used for a couple months. It coated the surface.. and then slowly streamed toward the drain when wet from use of the shower. But a residue would build up on the floor of the tub, in a streaming fashion. I eventually figured it out and began to only used bleach based cleaner.. then over several cleanings.. it was gone.
@@skippyjammers2747well done you
Note that the distributor, including in its response comments for this video above, explicitly stated that bleach should never be used on the refinished bathtub. Scrubbing Bubbles was recommended. @@skippyjammers2747
Where can you buy this product
You can get from amazon or us directly. Here is sour direct link: refinishedbathsolutions.com/collections/all-products
Can you Glaze a beige tub white?
yes, ekopel can cover up any pre existing color or stain with just 1 coat.
1 pour. Is a pour technically a coat. Application. That's the word I was looking for.. 1 Application. I should have wore my respirator while applying it😁
What is the prep for used tubs? I've only seen you use new tubs. New tubs shouldn't need to be resurfaced
How long until totally cured?
24-36 hours for it to be completely dry and hardened but it can take up to 30 days to cure. You can still use this while it cures the cure time is different from the dry time.
Primer?
primer isn't a have to I recommend it for bad rust spots or places fixed with bondo
@@RefinishedBathSolutions what kind of primer
Primer. With this stuff by a spray on oil base primer like Kilz. Red and white can. Oh yea... always sand rust down to good metal. Rust dosent stop on its own..
Sky blue would be real nice
How much does this material cost
Currently for our standard bathtub kit it cost $149.95 as of 2/28/22
Why not just stuff the drain with paper before you tap it ?
the material would get in and can dry like cement so it would clog the drain. If its clogs your strain you would have tp call a plumber to remove the pipes.
It fells like plastic. This would be easy to demo if I had done it several times.
I dont see it lasting long. Now i must call for cleaning advice.
Ill be installing a grad bar and a rub mat will be phucking mandatory 😅 not to slip and break a hip😅.
Have a dremel or oscillating tools for trimming I had to make a blade to trim skirt and drain ,but its to the edge under drain.

I apologize you did not have a good experience with this product. You can clean with scurbbing bubbles and Mr. Magic Clean, just make sure not to use anything with bleach. If you have anyother questions please feel free to give us a call 877-882-2278
Do you honestly think anyone can tell what you are doing with the holes?
Taking phone calls and texts during an instructional video, and not editing it out, is really inconsiderate of the time of your viewers. Think of the 7,000 views x the 60 to 90 secs of wasted time each. Edit the video.
This is a live video. Made to show everything completely unedited as the title says. This shows true time and everything uncut.
We have plenty of edited videos that show the process faster. This video is made for customers that don’t believe the time or effort involved in the process.
@@RefinishedBathSolutions if they are really worried about that what 60 seconds.... geeezzzzz.... go watch something else....lol
