    After having chosen it with my Dad about 3 months earlier and then waited and waited, Father Christmas left it early Christmas Day morning in the late 1960s. Christmas was brilliant because I was allowed to set up and leave track on the floor in the living room. Albert Hall looked fantastic racing round with her beautiful brass funnel. Sadly it was not to last, come teatime on the same day whilst my poor Mum was transporting our second feast of the day to the table, she accidentally trod on the engine and broke it. I was heartbroken and cried, my Mum cried and my Auntie Joan cried too, loosing one of her false eyelashes in the process. Meanwhile my Dad, being more practical, had knelt down to tend to my treasured engine and cheerfully showed us all the motor was still working as he ran the crumpled model around the track. I think that made it worse. My Albert Hall was sent away and six weeks later came back fully repaired however the eyelash was never found.
    I still have it in it's now battered box not having run it for many decades but I could never let it go. They're not just models but for many who had them when we were were young, they're windows into our childhood. Thank you again for providing some memories Oscar, and your amazing living and working Triang-Hornby catalogue.

    I picked up one of these at a local market a month or so back Oscar.
    She had the chuff chuff which didn't work particularly well so was removed.
    The magnahesion really is an outstanding addition to Tri-ang engines as you say.
    Stay safe.

      Good morning Stephen thanks for watching great to hear you had the Albert Hall as a child and have recently acquired a replacement. All the model railway items I had as a child have gone as I moved on to different interests! You must have great memories of it being a Christmas gift from your father.

    Another nice nostalgia trip again Oscar. What a great looking loco and that tender, plenty of detail there. Pity that manufacturers nowadays don’t give us the option of alternative names and numbers.
    I just noticed that in the service dealers, for the list for Australia, Bergs Hobbies in Parramatta have been in that area for close to 60 years, with only a handful of changes of address. This was the first model shop my dad bought my first train set from - which kind of gives away my age😂😂. Thanks for bringing back so many memories 👍🏻

      Sam's Trains does service contract work if you don't want to take the risk of self damage to a prized childhood memento. He'll fix it right up for you! Not sure if Oscar offers this service

Sam also has some great servicing videos covering all difernt types of models but this deals with restoring a Tri-ang Hornby Hall class. May be worth a look. th-cam.com/video/7ywWAmHqMAk/w-d-xo.html

    I have two of these, I shall be taking a closer look at them now. I noticed BC Shaver shop in Victoria BC in the service scheme book. I have been in the store many times in the last 40 years, sadly they are closing in 2019. Cheers Oscar, thank you for another interesting video.

      It's great to hear you recognized a store from the servicing scheme booklet and that they are just about still open. Others have mentioned stores that they have known in the past and have also sadly now closed. I wonder how many are still in business? There are four on the list that I knew in the mid-late 70s three of which are gone and the other a small department store which still seems to be in business and has a toy department but don't see any railway items on their web site. They do have Airfix kits.
      Thanks again for watching.

    I've just discovered your channel Oscar. you have done a fantastic job covering the models so far. Pure nostalgia and very evocative of growing up in the 1960's. Your layout presents the products in a way Triang-Hornby would have been proud of.Sadly as a kid the all important paperwork was generally lost except for the precious catalogues that were pored over longingly to create a Christmas wish list. The dealer Service manual is an interesting document providing both geographical and historical insights. Current sensibilities may have an issue with some of the countries listed in edition 35. btw HobbyCo in Sydney still exist, but shop has moved from Pitt St.

    I managed to strip the bottom plate off by removing the two screws. The spung wire had not broken and i was able to bend it a bit and then refit it. This solved the issue and now the wheels pickup again. The only other thing that it could have been was the wire soldered to the pickup, but it was fine.

    I have one that has stopped working. So I tested the motor again and it goes well. But when contact is made to the wheels there is nothing. So I suspect it;s the pickups. Don't know what to do about that. Enjoyed the video thank you.

      Good morning. The later versions got the Exhaust Steam Sound (Chuff Chuff Sound) along with a number of other models in the range in the early 1970s.

    Hi Oscar,always enjoy your triang videos.takes me back to my younger days.I have a question hopefully you can answer.Ive just acquired a triang train shed no:R 76 and it looks as if it has a fitting on the inside of the roof perhaps for a non working light system.there a four raised ribs with old glue on them and was wondering what if anything should be fitted on them.
    Keep on with the great videos.thanking you in advance.
    Regards,Bob Andrews.

    • @oscarpaisley
      @oscarpaisley  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Good afternoon Bob. I have to admit until you mentioned those four raised ribs on the underside of the roof on this Engine shed I had not noticed them. They do look as though they are put there for a purpose. But at present, I'm not sure what that purpose is. I've had a look in Pat Hammonds book as far as I can see there is no mention of an acessory to fit inside the shed. There is a slight variation on this the R.76 Engine Shed with more open ends above to doors to accommodate catenary and possibly it was made in red acetate at some point along with the very early building. Please do let me know is any information shows up and thanks for watching and taking the time to comment, it's hugely appreciated.
      Oscar

    • @MyChallenger2
      @MyChallenger2 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Oscar Paisley thank you for your reply.on a second look at the inside of the roof I think the little tags are where the smoke roof fits into the main part of the roof,perhaps ! Secondly I've been collecting the vintage gray triang track from the 50s / 60s from a wel known auction site .it all needs a good scrub and a good rub with a track cleaning block to get all the rust and grime off but when done and wired up my little gwr saddle tank rolled along it like it was new.obviously stuff was built to last in those days.its the track I had on my first triang layout.
      Regards,Bob Andrews.

    Hornby used the moldeing and modified it to make the saint by changing the cab ..I had a hall which ran perfectly for years which also by coincidence the chassie was the same for the saint but without the motor I even remember one time I swopped body's round just for a lark

    Hi Oscar,
    The Albert Hall is a beautiful locomotive. Maybe in the future, a video could be done with the Hornby King Edward 1 model from 1978-79. www.hornbyguide.com/item_details.asp?itemid=1 There is a couple videos of a King Class double heading with a Castle Class locomotive on youtube. It would be cool to see the King double head with the Hall. There was a Tri-ang/Wrenn Castle Class, Wrenn W2221 Cardiff Castle. Not sure if the die cast model would run well with the plastic tender drive King Class? Lisa
