- Grizzly Bear 399, a beloved figure in the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem, tragically lost her life in a vehicle collision on October 22, 2024. At 28 years old, she was the oldest known reproducing female grizzly bear, having captured the hearts of many visitors to Grand Teton National Park over her remarkable life. In Memory of Grizzly Bear 399 Today, we gather in spirit to honor the legacy of Grizzly Bear 399, a true icon of the wild. For nearly three decades, she roamed the landscapes of Wyoming, embodying the spirit of resilience and beauty that defines our natural world. Her journey as a mother to 18 cubs and her role as an ambassador for conservation have left an indelible mark on all who had the privilege to witness her grace. Grizzly 399 was more than just a bear; she was a symbol of hope and a reminder of the importance of wildlife preservation. Her presence inspired countless individuals to engage in conservation efforts, fostering a deeper connection to nature. As Chip Jenkins, superintendent of Grand Teton National Park, stated, "She has inspired countless visitors into conservation stewardship around the world". In memory of Grizzly Bear 399 I am donating all of my photography proceeds from 2024 to Vital Ground Foundation.
