I was so heartbroken and upset when I heard the news about 399' s passing 😢. I've been following her for some years now and it's devastating 😞. Rest in peace sweet girl. 🌈
I've been to the Tetons twice. It's a magical place to me. I learned about 399 only last year but I've seen the documentary and I have the book with the story of her life. I wish I could've seen her. When I found out she had died, I was and am so sad. Her presence was so big it seemed like she would be around forever. Nothing lasts forever. She gave joy to so many people. We were fortunate to have her for as long as we did. What a beautiful animal. Sleep tight 399. You will always be remembered. ❤
Thanks for your presentation of this very sad news. Loss of legendary mama bear, credit to her awesome species. Her poor last baby. I’m glad that baby is about a year and a half, I’m sure mama taught it everything she could, and it will hopefully carry on just fine.😢
Thank you for sharing this. I have had the wonderful opportunity to see and photograph her and her cubs over the last few years. May she Rest in Peace and may her legacy forever live.
A magnificent matriarch. This queen should have been safe there. Heartbreaking she's been taken out of the gene pool. And another tragedy will follow, if her cub isn't found. A very depressing story. God bless you Queen Grizzly 399, you were one in a million. 🐻🐻🐻🐻🐻🐻
I'm so sad and by the news. Ironically I just saw a documentary on PBS about 399 and I never knew about her before last week when I saw the documentary. It was a wonderful documentary and I feel so sad for her. Thank God so many bears probably come from her and her legacy as a great mama bear.
A beautiful tribute to the most special grizzly bear ever, thank you! May her spirit be with all of her offspring to keep them safe. My prayers they find her yearling cub Spirit and he will thrive and pass on those special genes. I'm so terribly sad 😢 😭 rest well my sweet 399 I'll never forget you!❤❤
I am so sad to hear this. I have watched her in everything she has done. We need to save all these beautiful animals that we can. Rest in peace you beautiful grizzly bear. I'll pray for your cub Spirit.
Here's some comments from an ex crash scene investigator who was there.....We arrived in Jackson the night she was killed, (for our semi-annual vacation to see 399). Went to the approximate scene, (they only said "about the 126 mile marker") which is in Lincoln County. The location of the carcass was in Teton County. Now they say it occurred at the 126.9 mile marker, still in Lincoln County. We checked from the 125 to the 127 mile marker and no sign of blood, pre or post crash skids, car parts, nothing to indicate the area of the crash. The blood and drag marks were still on the road 12 miles north though, in Teton County, where the elk carcass was hit. Interesting don't you think? (I'm a retired Crash Investigator so I had to see for myself). They cleaned up the site of 399's death but not where the elk carcass was located (I have video of the blood stained road where the elk carcass was). I was checking the scene as we just couldn't believe she was in the road. it seemed more likely the driver may have been crossing onto the shoulder some and that's how 399 was killed. We may never know how it really happened.
Awee great eulogy Sir I have several photos of 399 from the times my late husband and I spent in those mountains & woods I only gotten to see her twice back in 2015 she will be sadly missed by all of us wild life people. People in your vehicles please remember this is the wild life's backyard take your time let the animals have way first dont get out and start messing with them just to get hurt or mauled. Take your photos from your vehicle and give them their right away! We're lossing way to many bears and elk. If we don't give way the they will stop the people from coming in so tourists please please give way first show down be patient and respect their playground RIP 399 😢
QUEEN OF THE TETONS FOREVER AND ALWAYS.!!! YOU MEAN SO MUCH TO SO MANY. THANK YOU FOR THE TIME YOU SPENT GRACING AND ENRICHING OUR LIVES !! MAY SPIRIT GROW STRONG AND WISE LIKE YOU AND CARRY ON YOUR LEGACY.
My daughter worked in the Tetons 10 years ago. I went to visit her and we were fortunate to see 399 and 3 of her cubs. I'm so sorry to hear of her passing.
She had one cub, Spirit who's about a year and a half. It's possible the cub can survive without her, praying she taught that cub enough and it gets lucky and makes it ❤
That was sad. Hitvbyva vehicle. Really sad! My high school mascot was a bear. I love to hibernate, and I really love picnic baskets. Her little cub looked like Boo Boo. So sad that this bear so loved and gone after only 28 years.
So much tragedy in the world, and yet I am so sad about Grizzly 399. She was a joy to see and a grizzly like none other. So sad. Hope they find her cub.
If I were the Driver I wouldn’t at all feel bad. It was an accident! As stupid as Bears obviously are, They don’t realize that there are things stronger and more powerful. Vehicles and Locomotives are two of them. Fergieman
Maybe because it was 10: 30 at night, it wasn't in the park and this country has not had any bear get hit and killed for 15- 20 years according to an article I read. The man was not speeding, and was coming home from work. He called fish and game immediately.
IDK why but I was also fascinated by this Queen. It was probably because of her age and the amount of Cubs. Or maybe it was her beauty. RIP my friend. Thx for the knowledge !!!!
We walked the roadway at the publicized location, (126.9 mile marker), and yes, the roadway and the shoulder were cleaned up VERY well. There were no pre-impact skids, blood marks, scuffs, hair, or drag marks, and no post-impact skids or blood stains. I went out to the scene the next morning, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday looking for anything to suggest a crash had occurred - NOTHING. I get it, the Lincoln County Sheriff is trying to keep everyone calm, I guess. But the interview they gave said the Deputies determined, by the damage to the vehicle and size of the bear, the driver was doing the speed limit of 55 MPH. I guess this is new "magic" they have now in determining minimum speeds in crashes. Also, remember, this crash was investigated by the Sheriff's Office, NOT the Highway Patrol, as their Trooper was busy on a rollover DUI crash. I wish they were a little more transparent with their (lack of) investigation. I don't believe 399 would have been in the road or jumped out in front of the vehicle. This is also not a blind spot on the road. We'll never know I guess. smh
@@rosemariebredahl9519 It wasn't raining, and visibility was 10 miles, which means it was crystal clear. It's pretty easy to check these things before you comment.

Thank you for your beautiful tribute to the Queen. I hope that her 1 1/2 year old cub is found, and is healthy. Rest in peace, beautiful Queen.
I’m just so heartbroken she’s gone. A terrific bear mom is home.

I was blessed to have seen her in 2020. She had triplets. Loved her. She brought much joy. Rest my girl. ❤❤❤

Where are the babies?

She was 30 miles away, people called but sadly the people could have helped her were not available... so sad. She was indeed so special.
The driver should go to jail for a long time. He or she could have prevented the accident..

how do you kill a grizzly bear that size with your vehicle unless you were going over the speed limit while you were texting
fog? rain?

Why criticize the comment, if it was that clear then you'd think the driver would see a 400 pound bear.
