I lived there for 3+ years. If you get chatting to a girl, rather than pay the bar fine, ask her what time the bar closes & agree for her to come to your hotel room (some hotels have restrictions). But, agree on a fee, and how long she'll stay for BEFOREHAND, and make sure your valuables are in the hotel safe. Better still, agree to meet her daytime, when you can get to know her better. BTW, in Soi cowboy the girls are less friendly & more aggressive, always been that way. But Nana Plaza is the centre of the universe, and you can pick up freelancers outside the Nana hotel, the hotel has a system of collecting the girls ID cards before they come up to your room.

The thing I always loved about working girls, they're honest that the only thing about you that they care about is the money. Thermae is head and shoulders THE best freelance bar in Bangkok & very probably in Thailand. Its awesome. The choices available are mind blowing. Be careful of ladyboys(trannies) or "kathoey" in Thai. The easiest way to pick out a ladyboy is they usually pile on a lot of make up to cover the male facial features, and if that fails, look for the adam's apple or the deeper voice tone lol.

I'm Thai but American-born - speak English, Thai, and several languages fluently. Look mixed - no one can guess my ethnicity, so I can be whomever I want to represent myself as in Thailand. I don't ever fall susceptible to being a "walking ATM" like other tourists. Once I speak Thai, all bets are off for them to even think about hustling me.

Hey Drew, thanks for the great feedback! You should be able to get reasonable hotel prices if you book early. It would be more crowded during that weekend, but it should all be fine. The ‘entrepreneurial’ freelancer will usually lie and pose as a regular girl and give you the girlfriend experiences before constantly asking you for money to support her family. She’s hoping that when you leave you become a regular sponsor as well.

im 52 and just went in Nov 2022 and had the time of my life. Hey Colin, the risk is always there, so I would suggest you to always stay protected, you can negotiate terms with the freelancer if you prefer the girlfriend experience and they could even stay with you throughout the full duration of your holiday. Your chances of being accepted by an attractive freelancer is high, as long as you treat them nicely.
Having lived in Thailand for 12 years, I'd say this commentator has got 50--60% correct IMO . Too many generalizations. The freelancers have a higher chance of a disease (no testing on the streets). You may get stung by underaged girl, won't happen for a bar fine, but freelancers will work for that kick back from the police. You may get stung by a lying ladyboy, that won't happen if you bar fine. So many negatives to freelancers (but you left them out), only benefit is they are cheaper.
For better or worse, in Thailand, at least for now, a ladyboy's ID will always say "M". And as others have mentioned, 99% of hotels will register any "joiners" you bring back to your room. Disease? Don't eat strange and wrap up.

negotiating with them is actually easy...the price range is actually 1000 to 3500 baht...sometimes you can just offer 1000 baht or 1500 for ST without asking their price many will take it since they will only be there 1 hour or less...if they ask for too much just say" no thank you and walk away...most will smile and stop you then say ok 1500 for ST! no one will say cheapskate if they do they will probably give you a bad experience anyways. Remember they know this is a business. be warned if you are heavset, dont bathe , or not from a western country they may upcharge...it may seem racist but dont know what to tell you....Welcome to the world. There is but expensive. Like in Japan or China. Rather than that to the other Asians countries they’re all mix, and which means they’re not the original locales that you can trust. Use common of sense when you go to the south of Asia to choose carefully since not all of them are pure locales. There is a saying, and it says ”Always go to north, and never trust the people from the south” and if you open the google map that you will know what I meant.
There's several reasons why these girls are freelancers so my advice to anyone arriving in Thailand for the first time is to definitely avoid them. The most common reasons are they've been banned or sacked from bars for mostly stealing, they're disease ridden and despite what the narrator says they have zero standards and will go with anyone and do anything if the price is right. (If you saw her previous 6 'customers' before you then i guarantee you'd go nowhere it) People also to have to be aware of that 'bar fine' that you pay for a bar girl actually works as a guarantee for when things don't go as planned which can vary from poor service, bad time keeping, use of drugs and most commonly theft which are then taken up with the bar. However, if you get drugged and robbed by a freelancer and discover she left your hotel 6 hours ago with your watch, wallet, phone and laptop, then good luck trying to find her in Bangkok In summary, the 300bt bar fine for that bargirl will be probably be the best 300bt you'll spend that day... Stay safe in Bangkok because common sense is far from common there...
Just make sure you stay in a safe hotel to also make sure she have her ID to show it to you before you invite her to your hotel room, also make sure the receptionist will call you once she’s about to leave to take her ID. Also check her skin and body and smell to make sure if she’s in a good hygiene, and don’t forget to take her number to give her a ring before inviting her, and one more thing don’t show richness to show your valuable things front of her. Just lock it, and make sure you both not so drunk when you invite her. Regardless the bar girl that it’s not recommended since you all go to all that process, and better you observe first before taken the freelancer.

I used to love it when nana disco was the place.If you couldnt make your mind up in there then it was the carpark.Alot of the gogo girls from nana plaza congregated there too.Failing that the discos or the outside food areas along sukhumvit road.Another place was a tuk tuk to the honey pot.Basically a long room with about 30 sofas in there,all rammed with ladies.Been yrs since i visited a disco in bangkok,52 so the enthusiasm has worn thin.

Thermae is head and shoulders THE best freelance bar in Bangkok & very probably in Thailand. Its awesome. The choices available are mind blowing. The only negative I have about it is it became very popular with japanese guys pre-vovid and they over-paid for a companion and ruined the place for everyone else. I haven't been back post-covid but I will, its too good a bar not to frequent.

All up and down Sukhumvit road and Thermea cafe between nana and asok is the best place to find freelance. Also at nana plaza infront of the nana hotel alot of freelance. Mind tho that alot of these freelancers dont go longtime untill late at night (between 1 and 4 am ) .

Having lived in Thailand for 12 years, I'd say this commentator has got 50--60% correct IMO . Too many generalizations. Flashing your money about doesn't guarantee you anything, and neither does going on the low side mean you're in for a bad night or you will attract the wrong type, it all depends on the girl and if you hit it off to a large degree.

If in your hotel room, the girl spikes your drink, you go out cold, and find you have been robbed, you have no where to go with freelancers, with girls that have been bar fined, you can always go back to the bar to report the girl. The freelancers have a higher chance of a disease (no testing on the streets). You may get stung by underaged girl, won't happen for a bar fine, but freelancers will work for that kick back from the police. You may get stung by a lying ladyboy, that won't happen if you bar fine. So many negatives to freelancers (but you left them out), only benefit is they are cheaper.

negotiating with them is actually easy...the price range is actually 1000 to 3500 baht...sometimes you can just offer 1000 baht or 1500 for ST without asking their price many will take it since they will only be there 1 hour or less...if they ask for too much just say" no thank you and walk away...most will smile and stop you then say ok 1500 for ST! no one will say cheapskate if they do they will probably give you a bad experience anyways. Remember they know this is a business. be warned if you are heavset, dont bathe , or not from a western country they may upcharge...it may seem racist but dont know what to tell you....Welcome to the world. There's several reasons why these girls are freelancers so my advice to anyone arriving in Thailand for the first time is to definitely avoid them.
The most common reasons are they've been banned or sacked from bars for mostly stealing, they're disease ridden and despite what the narrator says they have zero standards and will go with anyone and do anything if the price is right.
(If you saw her previous 6 'customers' before you then i guarantee you'd go nowhere it)
People also to have to be aware of that 'bar fine' that you pay for a bar girl actually works as a guarantee for when things don't go as planned which can vary from poor service, bad time keeping, use of drugs and most commonly theft which are then taken up with the bar.
However, if you get drugged and robbed by a freelancer and discover she left your hotel 6 hours ago with your watch, wallet, phone and laptop, then good luck trying to find her in Bangkok
In summary, the 300bt bar fine for that bargirl will be probably be the best 300bt you'll spend that day...
Stay safe in Bangkok because common sense is far from common there...

Just make sure you stay in a safe hotel to also make sure she have her ID to show it to you before you invite her to your hotel room, also make sure the receptionist will call you once she’s about to leave to take her ID. Also check her skin and body and smell to make sure if she’s in a good hygiene, and don’t forget to take her number to give her a ring before inviting her, and one more thing don’t show richness to show your valuable things front of her. Just lock it, and make sure you both not so drunk when you invite her. Regardless the bar girl that it’s not recommended since you all go to all that process, and better you observe first before taken the freelancer.
