I just came to this realisation recently. There's a guy who grew up in the slums in Uganda, became a rich pop star, and now is on the verge of becoming president, ending a 35 year dictatorship. When I examined his story carefully, he reminded me of the Nike tagline, just do it! You can find the guy in Facebook, he's called Bobi Wine
another important truth comes to mind watching this talk: very often, the person who has the most important thing to say doesn't necessarily have the experience or confidence or polish or the right slide on the screen. when THIS imperfect, maybe shy speaker speaks, i will always listen carefully. i've found in life that SO many polished, overly confident, authoritative people have nothing at all to say. thank you Jen!
Exactly. I think I have so many original thoughts to say but because I am not fluent in English, I am not making videos about them. English speaking people have a big advantage.
@@behappyliving2549 That kid should have never been there in the first place, if they can't find a babysitter then they should be listening at home like the rest of us. Hopefully when that kid grows up it's bold enough not to follow in its parents self centered footsteps.
What she says is true! I attribute all of my past successes to my "boldness". I always believed, "If you don't ask, you don't get.", and "If you always do what you did, you'll always get what you got." Those were my fave mantras. Go for it!
Boldness is very important in every aspect of our lives . A man can be handsome and capable of attracting women. But if he has no courage to ask them out, he will remain single.
I used to watch this talk thinking about my dream job. I got motivated to try 10 times, and then I got it on the second try. Be bold, take action, break your fear of failure. Only YOU decide what the end of your current chapter will read like.
What happened after you joined this job ? Do you like it there ? For me, my mind is filled with the aftermath of achieving that dream job, whether I would be a worthy employee there or will I be a misfit and suffer from impostor syndrome all the time. Preparing to crack the interview for a few months is different than actually belonging there. This kind of demotivates me.
Shes right. I had an old boss that made me an offer to work for him and i turned him down because i didn't want to work for the pay he offered. He then called me back and offered me a $5 an hour raise for the same job, and i took it. However, i ended up quitting several months down the line because i didn't like the way he treated me. A few weeks later he called me back to apologize and said i was one of the best at what i do that He's ever had. I still turned him down. Today i am attempting to start my own business in my field, and i already have several potential customers lined up. I'll let you know how it goes in a couple years! I'm either going to become successful, or i will learn a lesson.
"Smart people think of all the negative things that will happen when things go wrong, but bold people think of all the good things that will happen when things go right"!
False. Smart people tend to think a lot as they have extra processing power. Negative focus creates overthinking on negative outcomes. But if a smart person has a positive focus, all the extra processing power is directed positively.
Keanu is the type of person we should all aspire to be like, he is the pinnacle of what a person should be like, a true inspiration a true good soul, we need people like him guiding us not politicians etc, the man truly is an earth angel and I have so much respect for him :)
For me, that guy is Manny Pacquiao. He grew up in poverty in the Philippines, which is much more severe than being poor in America. He often went without food. He slept on the street. He got paid $1 for his first professional fight. He fought just so he could earn some money to buy some rice. Best thing about Pacquiao? He was never invincible. He got knocked out early in his career, but he came back to become champion again. He then got knocked out AGAIN, but rose up and became champion AGAIN. Then he got knocked out really badly by Marquez, yet, once again, Emmanuel Pacquiao rose up to become champion AGAIN. In life, people talk about "getting back up after getting knocked down." But in boxing, one has to LITERALLY do this. It's not just a figure of speech. Boxing is brutal both mentally and physically. Manny Pacquiao is much bigger than even Rocky Balboa. He's an 8 time world champion who came from nothing. He is loved in America and idolized in the Philippines. He literally hands out food and money in the Philippines. He has never forgotten where he came from. And now he wants to help his people by getting in to politics. He gives Filipinos hope.
Boldness is a skill, you need to practice it to develop it, The 10% rule: take whatever you want most in life and take 10 attempts at it. (The purpose of this rule is to get very comfortable with failing 90% of the time) Ask for what you want. Chose what you want, and not just take what you can get.

The highest paying job I ever got (my current one) came from an interview where I opened by saying "You need to know that I'm looking to go right to the top, so if you need someone who wants to stay in this position for the rest of their career, we shouldn't continue." They said, 'there's room at the top here.' Then they hired me and on day 1 said, "list 3 goals for 2020 and we'll help you accomplish them so you can get promoted."
Thank you - I needed to hear "go for it 10 times". I was feeling discourage and tired, and this encouraged me to keep going because I still have a few attempts before I have hit my 10-times.
You are spot on. I have this conversation with my wife and sons on a damn near daily basis. No one can read your mind. So you must advocate for yourself.
I have found that whenever something goes wrong, There's usually something good about it. You learn something, or another door is opened, or something.
This is how God set it up. Life is a gift, no matter how things may look. Romans 8:28 "And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose." God is intentional. He has created all of us for a specified purpose. Whatever TRUE dream that you have in your heart, look at it as a gift from God that's given you to indicate that it is already yours. Try try and try and remember when one door closes God will surely open up another one for you. Trust him in Jesus name.

This rule was the main reason I achieved success in my twenties. I lost that boldness in my late twenties and my early thirties is a mess and failure now. But thank God I have been recovering and standing up recently. Go for it, see it, believe it, work for it, and enjoy working for it.
100% Agree! This is something I know of but haven’t fully embodied all of the time. I totally agree with your, we take what we can get, not what we want viewpoint. As I look back I realize I have done this in a few major parts of my life and this now..stops. I often am not totally sure what it is I want because I doubt that I can have that and therefore don’t commit to that ideal but often a lesser one that I know is easy for me to achieve. I have had a blessed and good life so far, but a GREAT one is forthcoming. Thanks Jennifer. Well articulated speech. Got allot out of this. Tx.
So true and would add that the more you can be bold and step put of your comfort zone the wider that comfort zone becomes until you can do almost anything with little or no fear.

By those means it also states we shouldn't go for jobs that gets us lots of money but we don't like. A lot of people have jobs they don't like so they can get the money needed to do what they do like. Society is run by people doing jobs they don't like for money.
@aena mustafa That's a tough call. I can't say money ain't important but working a job you hate can make the money seem miniscule anyway. I’ll be honest in saying, there are plenty of Ted talks I’ve “learned” more from. But Im not sure Ive connected with a message quite like I did with Jennifer’s here. So often the greatest risk in life is not taking one. Thank you for sharing this inspirational talk.
Jennifer, you are truly inspiring, thank you!! You have managed to simplify a life law that has baffled me for years!! I am currently stuck in a mundane life, simply accepting what life throws at me!! Your 10% rule has opened up my eyes to a whole new world & future!! 🤩 I love your Keanu story, it reminds me of when I was 16yrs old (24yrs ago) when I was obsessed with the Backstreet Boys & was telling my friends I would meet them one day (I live in Australia). My friends laughed at me, telling me to keep dreaming. I entered many competitions to meet them, but never won. When I was 21, the Backstreet Boys finally toured Australia, they performed a concert in my hometown of Adelaide which I obviously attended, the next day I flew over to Melbourne with some friends to watch them at their final concert in Australia...whilst at Adelaide Airport guess who I happened to meet? Their drummer & guitarist, we exchanged numbers & next thing I know I am being introduced to the Backstreet Boys themselves!! We had different flights to Melbourne, but agreed to meet up after the concert that night. I couldn't get a hold of the drummer after the concert, but a bunch of fans were screaming over a balcony to which I baldly pushed my way to the front, saw the drummer, got his attention, found out where their VIP after-party was & managed to not only meet the Backstreet Boys, I partied with them at their after-party!! This is proof that yes, if you want something bad enough in life, be bald & go for it!! 😁🙏
That was bold- especially being so young but let’s be honest: Keanu Reeves is literally the nicest actor on this planet. He is such an angel. You picked the right person
...maybe, I would love to hear his version of the story. Probably goes like....I am here in Winnipeg bored out if my skull and this kid was crazy enough to give me her number which peaks my curiosity ...beats sitting in the hotel, ...maybe I,'ll get a home cooked meal. ...let's go! ...lots of times it is lonely at the top so it really is true that reaching out might work.
I once boldly walked about to a famous Hollywood movie director and asked if I could gather some experience on his set, because I wanted to become a director, as well. He wasn't even hesitating for a second and said "yes". That moment, that bold move, changed everything in my career. The worst thing that can happen is that people will say "no" and you leave it at that. But if you never try, you'll never know. Be polite. Tell them honestly what your intentions are. Stay calm and professional. The right people will help you no matter how famous they are.
Things I learned from this TED talk You need to ask what you want. Chase what you want Make comfortable to failures Avoid self doubt Be bold and resilient Great speech 🎉 Ted talks boosts my energy ❤
Breaking boldness down, it's based off of self esteem. The underlining issue is that people are raised to conform and be complacent. I tried and failed for 7yrs to start my own company and after 15 attempts I was finally able to start business. If someone tells you that you can't do something, prove them wrong. Love from a ND native 💯

@@jennifercohen874 It's inspiring for those who can afford failing 90% of the time. What about the ones who can't? What if you don't have it? thanks, and let me know your thoughts
This is honestly the best presentation. I like how simple it is, yet it is practical. I once got a prized internship at the end of my bachelors degree. The company said they get a lot of requests but I got it because I followed up and kept consistent in asking. Thank you for the reminder!
Be bold. Just ask. The secret is knowing what you want and believing you deserve it and believing there's no reason why you won't get it. When you're devoid of doubt, success becomes inevitable.
Hard work, dedication, having goals, and working as hard as you can to reach those goals is key. Even if you dont reach your goals, you are still happy and satisfied that you did your best. Always do your best.
A dash of generosity goes a long way towards getting what you want too. Assertive but polite, kind and professional. Takers get chewed up and spat out. Givers own the world.
This was so inspiring. I've always felt held back and doubting etc. but this year I have decided to take more chances and go after what I want. It has been a bit scary so far but this video confirmed to me that it's important to take those chances. When I was a teen my art teacher asked us to write in our notebooks we had to hand in after each class what grade we thought we deserved at the end of the course. Normally, I probably would have written that I deserved an E or C, but that time I wrote that I thought I deserved an A and stated why. And she did give me an A! And I always wondered if she would've if I didn't ask for it.
so what reason you give to say you deserved an A, i dont think she will give you A without you asking, the purpose of she doing this asking the kid wat grade they deserve is to precisely teach this, to make them feel confident that they deserve good grades.
When you answer a 2nd question "Why you want something?"- many times you realize you either dont want the thing or you start "attracting" other things that get you the same feeling as the first thing

Silvia your biology teacher set you up....by laughing at you that can be interpreted as a put down...like saying you shouldn't or you couldn't do it...you can let others define you...or you can simply live your own truth...I applaud you...for being you. it's a matter of practice! ex: First time you put 5k on the table or at risk trying to accomplish your desire is the hardest! The second time, it's a little bit less uncomfortable, third, fourth, fifth, ... 20th time, it dont matter much at this step! Am at 45th, of putting 5k on the table in a project, and have not received a single cent back yet! It is not easy, but to succeed to accomplish parabolic success, you have to cultivate what it takes! A few weeks ago I asked for a raise for the end of the year, I got it. I know for a fact I would not have received anything had I not asked. On the flip side, I had a job almost two decades ago or asked for a raise and I got fired. Now I understand that my being fired had to do with more than just me asking for a raise, it had to do with my attitude and the way in which I went about it. What is important is that as soon as I got kicked out I bounced right back up and started asking other people for what I wanted and I had a job a few days later making more money somewhere else.

Be bold.
Givers own the world.
the one thing that has always stuck with me, is when my grandma once said to me " If you dont program or change your own mindset , someone else will"
Wise words from Grandma

Did she say how to program your mind as you want?
This was so inspiring. I've always felt held back and doubting etc. but this year I have decided to take more chances and go after what I want. It has been a bit scary so far but this video confirmed to me that it's important to take those chances. When I was a teen my art teacher asked us to write in our notebooks we had to hand in after each class what grade we thought we deserved at the end of the course. Normally, I probably would have written that I deserved an E or C, but that time I wrote that I thought I deserved an A and stated why. And she did give me an A! And I always wondered if she would've if I didn't ask for it.
She is amazing
so what reason you give to say you deserved an A, i dont think she will give you A without you asking, the purpose of she doing this asking the kid wat grade they deserve is to precisely teach this, to make them feel confident that they deserve good grades.
I've learnt that any "thing" I want never makes me okay once I get it. Its about placing less demands on how reality needs to be for me to be okay.

Thank you for the wise words Jennifer 🙏
I am so happy you enjoyed it. Thank you
"when you are comfortable with asking for the small things in life it gives you the skills to the habit and confidence to ask for big things in life", that is really important.🔥
It has worked for me as a freelancer, I ask clients for what I want and it has been a game changer.
YES!! Exactly
This is a great talk. It’s encouraged me to think about how fine the line is between being bold and being entitled.
thank you. I'm glad you liked it
Great comment, O.P.
@@jennifercohen874 If you are the real Jen Cohen, fantastic talk. People need to know that they can train themselves to be fearless, focused, and have enhanced desire toward the goal
hmmm, just like everything its a heart attitude. What I can give or what I can take. When you are bold you are giving everything you have. When you are entitled you are taking what you think is yours.
Well I think most people don't see a line. Imagine everyone being so specific with their order in restaurants. And also - Do I go in 10 different restaurants and ask for what I want, or try it 10 times same place until they get tired of me and finally serve me what I want for being "bold"? Joking ofc 😀
Fearless Voice!
You have delivered and spoken the words with Lion Energy, Attitude, Power, and with Higher Frequency.
❤ Claps for you! 🎉
she's so beautiful, not only physically but also intellectually. Her story is nothing short of unique too.
Thank you! I really aprreciate your kind words
Hey lobster
Is it you?
Is it the real lobster?
Is it Dr. Jordan Peterson?
If so i just wanted to say hi
I love her fashion sense..
@@zeehuss7275 i love you
"You need to ask for what you want." Simple like that!
Love this! thanks for this comment
What are the dos and don’ts of asking for a raise? Would love it if you shared what worked and what didn’t.
keanu is the right person to ask help for!! so much love and respect for him. Thanks
The ten percent thing is really great. Turns the variable of failure into a welcomed means. Thanks.
“Being bold means ordering from off the menu. When you are comfortable with asking for the small things in life it gives you the skills, the habits and the confidence to ask for big things. “
ya, but I did not fight for smaller things in life"". now don't know about the big things!!!
Size is relative
I tought you were gonna say ´Big wings´ like KFC of the menu
"When you comfortable with asking for the small things in life; It gives you the skills, the habits and the confidence to ask for the big things in life."
Believe it or not, this changed my life.
WOW! I love to hear this. So glad you liked it:)
I consider myself bold and I have encouraged others to be bold. One can cultivate boldness and like I tell others--people will not know that you aren't naturally bold. Just act as if you are. The more you practice being bold the easier it gets.
This is actually one of the best ted talks I've seen. I think it's because of her honesty.
Thank you so much! I really appreciate your kind words. I'm flattered
@@jennifercohen874 Jennifer, this was an amazing talk. I really felt your confident energy and I LOVED IT! Very honest and greatly motivating talk!
@@AlexGorskov Thank you so much! I really appreciate that.
Man I just love Keanu. If humans could be half as decent as him, we would all do just fine x
So so true
So So true
Me too
think he just wanted to get laid tbh
Jill directed that hamlet, such a funny story she tells about the layers of self talk she was running in her head the whole time.
"Believe you can do it and you're halfway there."
YES!

Teddy Roosevelt
knowing what you want is the first step. Having her looks and brains, helps a lot when "asking" and getting.
she lives in a different reality xD.
Step 1 - be beautiful.
Step 2 - ask for what you want.
Step 3 - get what you want.
unfortunately, this is true....if she was overweight, this vid wouldn't have anything close to the amount of views
My interpretation. Nobody gets succesful by not taking risks.
Exactly
@@jennifercohen874 My other thought regarding fear of failure. People beat themselves up when they try and don't succeed. That is the barrier we need to discuss.
Hey kids! It's Epiphany time!
kids.
Epiphany. Kids. Be safe, be safe, be safe! You wanna be on money or you wanna be money?
Accept rejection as a bump in the road and not a detour to the path of success.
Smart people sometimes fall into paralysis by analysis.
Exactly!
my life story. Except for maybe the smart part lol
or perfection becoming the enemy of the good.
💯
Actually sometimes analysis is just fantasy.
I started balding this year, now I know I'm on the path to success.
Same
I’m so proud to be bald. I am 32 always shoved my head as a kid and absolutely felt so uncomfortable when I would grow my hair out. And 32 years later I use a razor and keep it shiny. My beard is on point and I make guys who have the nice hair feel uncomfortable because I come in like a Viking god.
000))))
2021
The path to success is getting rid of my hair....that’s super easy, off to buy razor now
One of the best TED talks I have ever heard 💕
Thank you so much! I appreciate it
