I love how they end it with the last line as the literal sound of silence and the shot of the two of them copying the original Simon and Garfunkel album cover! So many chills! Great reaction bruddah!
Tim and Peter are both very talented in their own right, but together....they are magicial. The way these two can match their sounds during a chorus, is so unbelievable. Please do their version of Greensleeves. It will blow you away. Thanks, Sam. I always enjoy your reactions.
Ok, I now have a new favorite version of this song! The original artists (Simon and Garfunkel) were nice but this is amazing. They have truly done the song justice.
A favorite song since it came out in the 70s. This more than does it justice, Peter and Tim!! I love Peter's music and Home Free's music. When do we get to hear you sing, Sam? Thanks for the reaction.
@@lauriegoodson In my comment, I listed the official recording, and the WIKI article that talks about how it all started, almost ended, then got a restart. ;-) In 1964, I was 14 years old and TOTALLY in love with the Beatles. ;-) I didn't pay much attention to anyone else, until right around 1970. After that, I was a die-hard Simon and Garfunkel fan (still am). ;-) Except I love Peter and Tim's ending better, plus the fullness of their sound. \0/
This is very close to the original and I love it. These two fellows are very good together. I'm still voting for the 19 You & Me - Peter Hollens & Home Free, Dan + Shay - 19 You + Me (Home Free featuring Peter Hollens cover) and the BTS in a marathon. LOL Thanks! ^_^
@@kareng1894 Sam...I sure hope you do this one, too, and you will LOVE that BTS!!! Which reminds me...Check out FifGen and The Hound + The Fox! You'll love what you discover. ;-)
I loved this and you’re reaction to it. It reminded me of another awesome collaboration Peter did, this time with Avi Kaplan, formerly of Pentatonix. The song is Black is the Color of My True Love’s Hair. I’d love to hear your reaction to that one. And yes, I’ve joined your Ohana. Mahalo for doing these.
This is fabulous, right through the homage to the Simon and Garfunkel album cover at the end. But, for some reason, I find the visuals slightly creepy. Maybe because Tim looks so angry a couple of times. But the vocals are rapturous.
I sang this in choir in the 70s. They kept a lot of the original harmonies, but added so many layers. You really should listen to the original to understand.
You have never heard this song??? WOW! This was written and sung by Simon & Garfunkel, HUGE hit for them from their 'Bookends' album. Once you see the album cover for Bookends, you will have a better understanding on the significance of the pose and black & white. There was only one more word in the lyric. Rather than sing "silence", they became silent. Incredible impact by doing that simple (not so simple) change.
When it's Peter, Tim and or Home Free, grab some popcorn and a popsicle on the way by and take your time. I just heard you mention someone having to replace their sub-woofer courtesy of Tim -- he is kind of known for doing that. Somewhere on YT there is a video of him blowing out the sound system at one of their concerts. If I can find it, I'll pop the link in here. Ha! I forgot what year it is -- just noticed this was done in 2018. I doubt you'll even see this :*))
So, two suggestions related to this song now that you’ve been introduced to it. First: listen to the original by Simon and Garfunkle. Their song was a canticle. It’s beautiful. Second: React to this same title covered by the band Disturbed, their live performance on Conan. I’m a fan of classical music. Disturbed is a heavy metal band. Their cover of The Sound of Silence is legit the most beautiful and powerful piece of music I’ve ever heard. There’s a reason why it’s one of the most reacted songs on TH-cam. Check out the number of hits on its official video - insane.
Now the cover of Sound of Silence by the band Disturbed. It was an original song by Simon and Garfunkel in 1974, different time but is as meaningful now as then.
@@terib470 No worries...lol...was just flying through comments and ran into several that had the date wrong. I remember the year 1964 well, always because I lived in Valdez, Alaska and that was the year of the huge Alaska earthquake. I was 14. ;-)
@@GrandmasGoneGamingLW I was 14 also, got to live in Anchorage in 1970 to 1971. My step dad was an air craft controller and was stationed there. Gorgeous state.
@@terib470 Very cool! When you were living in Anchorage, I was living there, too! My ex-husband was in the army, and based at Ft. Richardson, after coming back from Viet Nam. My oldest boy was born at Elmendorf AFB. Small world! :-) It was in that year that I listened to Simon and Garfunkel a LOT!
I always felt it was soooo missing that someone left the last Silence as just that. I feel they really nailed with with letting it be the sound of *silence*. :)
Are you mostly just interested in reacting to Acapella type videos? I love acapella myself, but I've noticed that that's what you seem to mostly react to.
Love your reactions and comments, Bruddah, including his one. But, come on man, you’ve an adult American and you haven’t heard this song before? I’d say shame on you, but I realize we all have different tastes. Now go treat yourself to the original by Simon and Garfunkel from 1964. This is the quintessential Folk song. Here, I’ll help you: th-cam.com/video/4zLfCnGVeL4/w-d-xo.html While you’re at, check out or even react to the cover by Disturbed, they also did it justice. Drive on, Bruddah!
Hi there Jack... unfortunately, I was not exposed to all kinds of music growing up and really didn't venture off to different styles and genres until I was much older and I stuck close to what I new best, Hawaiian music, Gospel/Christian, a cappella, and some country, 90's country.... so mahalo much for not fully assuming that I know all songs just because I'm an adult American....besides, I am only 36 so whatever old, classic, songs I know by heart and have heard before is influence from my parents and older family members hehe. Someone stripped me with a message like this before and it hurt because they automatically assumed because I was this and that, I should know it and it was hurtful. I had no choice but to block them because there was no "oh I understand that maybe" it was a straight shot at me =( I appreciate you giving me a chance though and for watching!
Bruddah Sam I have to admit I was a little surprised that you hadn’t heard this song before. But then again I forget that not everyone is as old as I am! Hehehe. It was so popular you heard it everywhere. And I certainly wouldn’t know anything about Hawaiian music! Great reaction....loved it.
Oh goodness, so I just listened to the original video/song and my wife told me that maybe being that we were so young then, we heard it, but didnt' know the title...sure enough after listening for a little bit of the original, it brought flashbacks to parties when I was a kid and hearing it on the radio...because my wife recognized it and now I do too hahahaha! So there you go, I now have a recollection of this song, but because it was done as a cappella, it didn't ring a bell, so yeah, please forgive me hehe. I am still a youngin' here =)
No problem, man. My parents didn’t play to a lot of music very often, but my Dad was definitely into the folk stuff. I guess that’s where I get my taste for S&G, Peter, Paul and Mary, and some Kingston Trio and early John Denver. Speaking of S&G, I really hope Peter and Tim do a cover of The Boxer. That one is my favorite S&G song. For me, the only exposure to Hawaiian music I got as a kid was Tiny Bubbles and whatever they played on Hawaii Five-O (the original version). 😂. So I guess we’re in the same boat. If you want stick to some folk covers you should check out Home Free’s recent cover of Helplessy Hoping (Crosby, Stills and Nash). The harmonies are out of this world. th-cam.com/video/kQt9jKDCqHo/w-d-xo.html

Concentrate on the backing vocals and try to ignore the melody (hard to do) but those chords/runs/rips and unreal.
