Furiosa was written at least a decade and a half ago. At one point, Miller planned to film both movies at the same time, releasing Furiosa first and Fury Road (without Mad Max in the title) a year later. The studio eventually nixed this plan. The video game creators had access to both scripts and were told to do what they want within the confines of those two scripts - no major discrepancies allowed.
To add to that, there was also meant to be a game by Cory Barlog and George Miller that came out at the same time as the Furiosa anime but like when the anime was scrapped, Barlogs game was also scrapped. The reason Miller is kinda weird about the 2015 game is because they were also given access to the notes for that game as well by WB, which I think Miller wants to develop into a film now (Mad Max: The Wasteland), all without his blessing or permission. The game technically has spoilers for a film that hasn't come out yet.
@@davidruiz2474 after watching the movie, a lot of the game lore was in the movie. Thanks man for addressing this, i thought i was the only one having this weird feeling while watching the movie.
@@arafatrashid13 once I saw Chum-Bucket that was all I needed to have confirmation that the game was Canon, until I read the other day that it is in fact part of the Mad Max Saga 👍
Tip for game first timers (or even if you've played it before): Tear through the main story, and avoid as many if not all the convoys until you complete it. When you complete that story you'll get access to the Pursuit Special Interceptor, so you can do all the your road battles with the real deal. The Magnum Opus (the car you're building up throughout the game) is also badass and in some ways better than the Interceptor (it's LOADED with weapons and power ups), but all you really need for taking out cars and convoys is the Interceptor. Also, after the main story you get the Road Warrior jacket, as well as his signature double barrel shotgun, and you'll be able to roam through the wasteland and do all the side missions and random encounters everywhere with not just the best armor and gun but also looking awesome with the real Road Warrior gear
The Mad Max game will forever be something special to me. Picked it up Day one when it released and fell in love with it.. perfect example of an underrated gem of a videogame.
One of the reps for Avalanche Studios did actually respond to George Miller's comments about the game, basically saying he was kind of a dickhead for saying that when Avalanche was basically jerked around and told to practically scrap their original designs for a linear adventure as opposed to the open world we have now. Avalanche seems rather proud of the game given the circumstances and it's a shame that critics are only now warming up to it as opposed to back in the day, because it seems like that critical reception knocked the chances of a sequel straight off of the table
I saw the recent interview of George Miller talking about the game, I don't think he was bashing the game, just being upfront about its lack of success and came to the conclusion that it wasn't very good then
@@Takuat Right? Warner Brothers screwed over a lot of great games with poor marketing and lackluster support. WB canned any idea of a Hogwarts Legacy sequel despite it being their most successful games in decades. Instead they came up with this stupid live service version of Quidditch which bombed horribly once people realized it was merely a cash grab.
Loved Furiosa. For Miller's comments on the game, he probably saw the reviews and sales and made a conclusion, but the game totally is better than critics said it was at the time and has seemingly garnered a lot of love in recent years.
I'm so disappointed it's not doing well in the box office. It's just a great movie, i wonder why so many movies are not performing well. The movie and game industry seems to be struggling..🤔
It’s even more disappointing when I consider the possibility that George Miller went with the spin off film over “Wasteland” because he possibly couldn’t get the funding he needed for “Wasteland” (which I suspect will be a massive film) and maybe to convince producers to fund his next film he needed this one to be successful. Considering the downgrade in practical visuals in this one, and the battle between the Citadel and Dementus being told through a Timelapse, if feels like some corners had to be cut budgeting wise.
Because a small female with no weaknesses throwing around 200 pound dudes is not believable anymore and people are tired of it. Want proof? You just gave it yourself: "it's not doing well in the box office."
I've been holding out hope for another Mad Max game but with the movie not making a lot of money. It doesn't look like I'll ever get it. I love the game so much, I'd just drive around and enjoy the world for hours.
I would assume certain parts of the game are canon but not all of it. Scrotus not being in Fury Road but in Furiosa basically explains that he was killed off between the time of the two movies. Max killing him off like the game would make sense but then again the timeline is fucked up and the next movie probably won’t come out until the mid 2030’s. Still holding out hope for another Game if not a Mad Max Spin-off Series would be cool, center it around a bounty hunter in the Mad Max World doing odd jobs and bounties exploring more of the world and towns, or just bring back Max for his own Sequel Movie already. So much potential for the Mad Max World.
@@larryhouse3776 I saw the movie, loved it. But WASTE of money seeing it in ScreenX. There were a few cool shots here and there where it made use of the extra screen real estate but MOST of the movie was just on the main front screen.
@@conorkiddell9245 well I'll keep it simple and spoiler free for others who may be reading. He has a buggy that is missing a wheel when furiosa needs a ride.
For years I wanted to play the Mad Max game and last week I saw your old video about Mad Max, so I got the game and started playing it the same day. I freaking love it! It's a great game and I just love living in that crazy world.
TIL George Miller had his wife Margaret Sixel edit Mad Max: Fury Road. Miller said that she had never cut an action movie before, and he said if was edited by "the usual kind of guys, it would look like every other action movie we see." She went on to win a Oscar for her editing work in the film.
i think the other way around, yes vol 1 and fury road had the most action and furiosa and vol 2 are the most talkie ones. but the thing about furiosa is that it was meant to be part 1 in millers vision while fury road was part 2, but since he couldn get the crew he wanted he ended up making fury road while he was going to produce a furiosa anime just like he produce this game as "the wasteland" prequel, but since he was wasn't satisfy with the end result of the game he scraped the anime and went "FINE... I'LL DO IT MYSELF"
I personally liked the rhythm of Furiosa more than Fury Road, but that's like comparing two different genres of music. PS: I also love the fact that Fury Road gets a whole new set of emotional beats after watching Furiosa. One of the few (if not only) prequels that make the sequel better.
I actually watched fury road the night before I watched Furiosa and it’s unreal just how well Furiosa leads into fury road, damn near perfect I would say
Agreed. If anything Fury road was criticized for not having a lot of plot development and story. Furiosa had a lot more world building and a bigger story to tell.
It was really sad to hear that Furiosa bombed in theaters. The movie was the second best film I've seen this year; I just don't know how they did some of those effects and stunts.
I remember a day when theatrical releases were allowed to build momentum over weeks through word of mouth, but now if a movie doesn't perform in the first weekend, it's a certified bomb. And if you wait just a few more weeks, it'll be on streaming anyway, so why bother with a theater?
@@simpleemoderna lot of people wanted this a decade ago. But they weren't able to strike while the iron was hot, because of his fallout with WB. Plus, there is a lack of Charlize Theron, who made Furiosa famous. Movie theaters are also expensive and if you have Max (ironic), everyone knows you'll be able to watch it on there in a few months.
@@kevinthunder3375 I agree with you that they certainly didn’t strike the iron when the tools were less than dull or anything was hot, but I don’t think they necessarily needed Charlize Theron for the role. I just really think they kind of struck a little dull to the fact that many of us have said nobody was really looking for more of these movies. I love everybody’s opinion on this because we all look at it a different way, I love art for that but nothing will ever beat that guy with a guitar with the borderland mask flying off the front of that vehicle, slamming the heavy metal guitar strings in Furry Road? Right? :D
I just watched Furiosa yesterday and it was this year's best film for me yet...watched Fury Road a day before that ..Good fun ..and when the Bikes Rev in the theatres pure orgasm for ears..got goosebumps
so glad you’re talking about this game again, I rewatched your review last year and I replayed the game. Such an underrated title associated with an amazing film franchise
After watching Furiosa and replaying the game this go around I noticed that scrotus’ death is explained during the game timeline, and Dementous and his Horde were even mentioned. Just shows how long and how far George Miller thought into this world ❤
This. I came late from the cinema and I just wanted to remember the story a bit so I started to look at the archives... And it's all there. Dementus, the Wasteland Wars. Scrotus. It's all in the game! Not only Furiosa made the Fury Road even better but tied the game in as well.
Furiosa is more like The Road Warrior and Mad Max 1 combined into one movie that's what makes it so good. We didn't need another movie to be one long chase sequence. It was an excellent movie with excellent character and world building.
I played madmax for the first time yesterday, I played for 8 hours 🤣 literally can only play usually for max 2 hours. Mad max has me in love with no complaints yet
I thoroughly enjoyed it. It'll triple or even quadruple its' numbers after streaming releases. This is one of those that may not have done huge box-office business, but will have cult-success, and be one everyone's seen and loved at some point. Keep it up Jake, I love your content and agree with around 98% of your takes on stuff. Definitely one of my favorite creators. 😁
I agree with much of your take on "Furiosa", "Fury Road" & the fantastic 2015 "Mad Max" game. Miller created a wealth of back stories when creating "Fury Road", much of the back story lore, characters & vehicles were shared with the Avalanche team, hence the villain who was in a very kool mission in the game, including his motorbike. It's no accident that Gastown portrayed in the "Furiosa" movie looks exactly like the Gastown in the game. Even the old El Camino bad guys car that flipped over the top of the new war-rig is a vehicle right out of the game. I pre-ordered "Mad Max" back in the spring of 2013 & was thrilled to finally obtain my game to delve into. My Gamestop even gave me 2 huge double sided cardboard displays from the game, now in my game room. I have over 500 hours in the game, so perhaps I'm biased. I have been fortunate enough to see all 5 of the George Miller's "Mad Max" films on the big screen, which only a super fan can claim!
The game is fantastic. Such an under-appreciated gem. I’m sure GM has no idea about the game itself, and is talking more about sales numbers. It was released the same day as MGS:V and iirc, it had almost zero marketing so never had a chance.
@JakeBaldino if yall wanna feel old, I listened to your vids/Pretty Much It's roughly 10 years ago when doing my college assignments. Now I listen during work/coding 😂!!!
i am so so glad you’ve decided to cover this topic, you specifically. i rewatched your original video on the game recently as the Furiosa hype has been strong, and i was hoping you’d talk about this because i had been thinking many of the same things. i have already seen the movie twice in the theaters and will likely go back once more before they pull it. i really really enjoyed it, and would encourage anyone who hasn’t seen it to please do so, even if you’re new to the franchise. going back and replaying the game has only enhanced my enjoyment for Furiosa too. i guess i almost wish that they had held out on the game until now, since Furiosa isn’t even a story about Max at all, and actually feels way more connected to this film in a lot of ways than it did to Fury Road. i won’t spoil it for anyone that hasn’t seen it, but those that have understand what i mean i’m sure. for some reason i don’t really go back to Fury Road a whole lot, which i’m aware is a crazy thing to say, and again i absolutely loved that film, but Tom Hardy’s portrayal of Max really holds that film back in my opinion. as a fan of the originals, it was so disappointing that he couldn’t come anywhere near Mel Gibson’s level of charisma. i mean he doesn’t even do an Aussie accent. i also think it’s such a shame that the game didn’t get the love that it deserved, and i mean that mainly from a development pov. again, i love the game, but it’s kinda a glitchy nightmare, and the fact that there were never any add ons or DLC was really a shame. i wish they had more car bodies for the Magnum Opus, maybe some Aussie classics like the Holden Monaro or the Valiant Charger (which actually does appear in the game as an enemy vehicle). i also find it odd that it never had motorcycles or big rigs like the movies had become so iconic for. some very strange decisions were made for that game, but all things considered i think it came out pretty well, and truly does stand on its own two feet as the definitive Mad Max game.
I really feel like it was supposed to be released alongside the Furiosa movie as the big rigs in Furiosa are much more like the big rigs in the game than Fury Road.
Almost slept on the Mad Max game because movie adaptations are very hit and miss. I decided to give it a shot last year and it immediately became one of my favorite games ever. Yeah it can be repetitive in some parts with the open world stuff but man is it fun. They nailed the world, the car combat, the sound design and the graphics still hold up to this day. I also love that you can feel the brutality with the hand to hand combat.
The only thing I think that was a bit of a let down was there really wasn't much in the way of hidden side quests with extra content. Although I can understand they cannot be as big as Rockstar's world it would have been cool to have a bit more random encounters.
Yeah it's one of the few open world games where it doesn't feel useless to go exploring to get yet another collectible. Maybe not as great of an open world as something like RDR2 but that game cost insanely more to make. Interestingly the Max Max game is EXTREMELY highly rated. 96% of users liked the game and on steam it has a 9/10 rating. Metacritic and IGN of course didn't give it glowing reviews but EVERYWHERE else it is a very high scoring game.
I love and commend the games art style, it has almost this soft & water colour like tone & textures and it makes the environment look very pale & drab giving you this very satisfying contrast when sunsets, fire & explosions fill the screen in vibrance. Since getting an OLED TV I've been playing stylized games just to take in its colors lol
Fury road was so good dude. Furiosa definitely brought me back for another playthrough of Mad Max, I think I need to see it again but I couldn’t agree more with the lore and world building!
Solid video Jake! Watched Furiosa yesterday, it was a really solid movie, the story, action, cinematography was all top notch, beautifully shot, loved the night scenes. Chris Hemsworth stole the show as Dementus. Had a great time. George Miller does it again! The Max Max game is an underrated gem, it captured the look and vibe of the Mad Max universal perfectly. Still love playing the game, driving around in the wasteland is always fun. 🙌
I’ve just completed the game again for the 3rd time. An absolute classic, no other games nails the crazy car battles so iconically mad max’esc. You feel and notice each upgrade to the car and you work hard for each upgrade. It genuinely feels like different cars each time you add a few upgrades. That combined with the amazing storyline. Iconic new mad max style crazy characters and expansive lore and world building this game still stands up. An also the bleakness of the wasteland not many games can capture. George miller should have canonised it.
I loved the movie Furiosa, it was better than id expected. Pacing was a bit odd. I love the world, and the action with the car combat. And yeah, it made me think about the video game the whole time. I kept looking for the Buzzards too. Fingers crossed for more Mad Max wasteland action. And another game too please.
2 of my favorite things about this game are 1. Little to no copy paste on strongholds and camps 2. The upgrades makes you noticabley stronger rather than just making you strong enough to keep up with increasing difficulty of the game
I have a greater appreciation for a lot of these movie tie-in hidden gems. Playing RoboCop this year kind of showed me just how much It can add to a franchised game when the developers actually care about that franchise and put a lot of love and attention into it. When it nails the atmosphere that you imagine would be attached to it, that can make up for what can be It got me to play through their Terminator game too which I'm thoroughly enjoying despite their still being some generic and sometimes subpar gameplay But that mad Max game is awesome. It's kind of the same thing, I felt like anytime you were on foot and shooting felt a little clunky. But the fighting could be fun even if it still felt like another game at the time trying to do its own spin on the Arkham formula. But they nailed just driving around the desert in an old muscle car, and they nailed the downright wacky and thrilling atmosphere of that world
Furiosa was a blast and expanded on the fury road world. I can't tell you how much I want to see the inner workings of the Mad Max universe. The game also did it fairly well between the different factions vying for control and the critical resource is they can't lose. Fury Rod you were being dragged through the universe it was an absolute rollercoaster but you didn't get to stop and appreciate any of it.
Played the game for the 1st time a few days ago, and i enjoyed it. I'm gonna do another playthrough next year or at some point. can't wait to see the new movie.
I don’t think it’s fair to compare furiosa to fury road They’re two different types of action movies set in the same universe No one character in fury road put on as fantastical performance as Chris hemsworth did in furiousa
Fully agree with your views. I was actually HYPED to see Furiosa, because like you I totally LOVED Fury Road and so watching Furiosa I felt let down. The mystique was missing, much more CGI (or at least visible), the iconic scenes and drive were missing. And the story...is just so BLAND! It's a basic revenge story. Apparently, at some point, they thought about making an Anime on this story, akin to Animatrix, which would be much more fitting.
Mad Max the game is disgustingly underrated. Only area of the game that I’m not as big on is parts of the story but gameplay and world wise it’s awesome and so much fun.
I *really* enjoyed Furiosa, and I think a lot of it was being back in the world of Fury Road. And a lot of *that* enjoyment came from the many hours I spent in the Mad Max game. While the gameplay was fun, the design elements and worldbuilding were for me the strongest parts of the game. Original, consistent and immersive. So seeing those same elements in Furiosa again really integrated the film into that same world - much bigger than what was seen in the film itself. t all felt part of the same whole (although I know the game isn't canon).
I actually thought it was just as good as Fury Road; better in some ways, worse in others. Fury Road definitely has the better action and stunts, but Furiosa has more emotion and a better story, plus more lore. Both films look and sound incredible, and while I prefer Fury Road's soundtrack, Furiosa's music is good too. Both are incredible action movies. Also, I have 150 hours in the Mad Max game, but I definitely loved the lore in Furiosa. Didn't feel like I had my fill at all.
I agree with you. And I think Tom extended the same soundtrack. Kind of like what Zimmer did with Dune part one and two soundtrack. Haven’t played the game in three years but I played through it twice. The second time I was more focused on getting upgrades to the magnus opus before finishing the main quest. I hate that you have this beast of a car and nothing to destroy.
I like that I just watched the Mad Max video not long before this upload and after watching Furiosa I'm seated once again for Jake Baldino on more Mad Max stuff.
Initially skipped out on the game but after rewatching the Mad Max movies (and reading the comic) in anticipation for Furiosa I grabbed it and I can't wait to dive in and see how they do things differently between that movie and the game and just to exist in the Wasteland
I walked into fury road with no expectations whatsoever, when I walked out I bought another ticket and watched it again. It was the best experience I have ever had had at a movie. This movie I just walked out and said hmm that was good and moved on. Music was huge in fury road, I feel like they just kinda added random things here and there to make it seem like a sound track was added in Furiousa
Strangely the Madmax game was one of the few things i didn't agree with Jake(and Falcon) on, I played it and thought it was okay but never finished it, but after Furiosa and it's world building the game feels SO much better, names mean something to me now since I was casual Mad Max fan and even thought Fury road lacked World building and had a basic narrative... I think after Furiosa I can enjoy the Mad Max IP a lot more now.
Furiosa actually made the game Canon. The game also fits perfectly between the events of both movies with 2 characters of the game showing up in Furiosa. There is some info online that even the script of the movie had some notes referencing how It should connect to the game.
Fury Road was like a shot of adrenaline from start to finish. I Left the theatre feeling hype as hell. The Mad Max game carried that feeling over really well. Especially with the Series X fps boost
Furiosa begins to make a lot more sense to when you learn it was originally intended to release as an anime alongside the Mad Max game and Fury Road, similar to how the Matrix sequels had a game and the Animatrix all come out at the same time. I think it contextualizes the movie Furiosa in a really interesting light, knowing that it was always intended to exist and not just some cashed in prequel to explain everything that was unexplained in Fury Road makes it feel a lot cooler in my eyes. Hopefully we get Mad Max: The Wasteland!
I'm one of the rare people that did not like Fury Road. I liked the first three movies. But didn't get Fury Road. I was late to the party but ended up playing the game a couple of years ago with very low expectations. Loved it. I thoroughly enjoyed it and it made me want to rewatch Fury Road (which I never got round to) Wasn't that drawn to Furiosa by the trailer or my feelings on Fury Road, but on a whim went to see it last night and it was ace. This is much more what I'd have hoped for from Fury Road. This to me was far more akin to the original movies, and I fell it probably bridges a gap and I have a feeling that watching this and Fury Road as one big epic is probably the way to go watching these two in a mini marathon which I will when Furiosa is released. But I also kept on thinking about the game through the entire movie, so many things from the game in this movie, even in the way somethings looked that I don't think we're seen in Fury Road. Gastown wasn't quite as monstrous as it was in the game but I feel it could be in the future. Obviously Scrotus is the big bad in the game and they went a different way with him in the movie, in the game he looks like Rictus. It was my wife that instantly realised it was Chumbucket on screen which we were happy about, so we had to check the credits and make sure it was. But yeah, it was mad how eerily close that devs got the world building nailed down back then.
Miller was critical of the game because Avalanche apparently took some story beats he wants to use in Mad Max Wasteland and kinda spoiled some of that movie long before he’s even shot it. Like from what I understand he gave them his notes for backstory/context and was surprised that they straight up adapted some of those notes.
I only got 4-5 hours into the Mad Max game because it released the same day as MGSV. What were they thinking! I’m giving it another shot now and loving it. Imagine a sequel that used the nemesis system from Shadow of Mordor
@@larryhouse3776 I could also see the enemies also gaining extra armor pieces and higher level weapons and equipment. The rag tag put together armor and weapons aesthetic from the Shadow of Mordor games would feel very much at home in the Mad Max world. If they expanded on the combat to where you had to blow off pieces of armor to do more damage to higher level enemies that would be AWESOME. Imagine the game getting much harder as enemies level up and come at you with thunderpoons and perhaps bows and guns while having improved armor. It would definitely give a real reason to go back and play New Game Plus.
The movie totally made me go back and play again. I enjoyed the movie and had fun which feels so rare now for a movie the game is so fun it's a shame that more people don't know Abt it. It's always kinda been my own little secret because no one else seemed interested but I love the combat and the driving and the sandstorms are crazy
There was news before the pandemic that a second mad max game was in the works. You can still see that story if you google it. However, we haven’t seen anything. I would love another game.
Furiosa is not as good as Fury Road, but still a blast to watch. I love Anya Taylor Joy, but IMO nobody can replace the awesomeness of Charlize Theron's Furiosa. Charlize's Furiosa was tough as nails and really believable as a wasteland survivor. I still don't understand how Charlize never became an action movie goddess after Fury Road. I would've loved her as Captain Marvel. I'm just worried that we most likely will not get another Mad Max movie, because Furiosa is bombing at the box office.
Great review-really sucks that people slept on this movie. When we see a song from the 2000s that was slept on, we’d say, “aw man this song is so good, it was slept on”-that is whats happening with this piece of art/media. Not Fury Road(honestly so hard to top but) but not trying to be-it’s great at what it’s trying to do. And what I love is that you give some love to another ‘slept on’ title/media, which is The Mad Max video game from the same year as Fury Road, it’s a great little game that ties into the world. It gives background lore on the universe and has great characters and shows what Max has gone through to make him the way he is. The combat is insane, taken a page from The Arkham series of games and it did great while making it it’s own because while Max is badass, he wouldn’t be as flexible as Batman haha-The creativity/ability to customize your car and character/skills honestly rivals the big Rockstar Games and I love R*-I’d remember coming home from Football practice back in 2018 to replay it and this game literally made me stay up and play it even after I was tired from practice🤣🤘🔥Again, great review, Sir-Will subscribe, also the late 2000s were called the ‘aughts’😉🔥
Mad Max is still one of my favorite games. Nothing matches those convoy battles, especially when you have a storm coming. So intense. I also enjoy that the hand to hand combat felt heavy and brutal. At the time, games like Arkham Knight and Shadow of Mordor were out so I can see why people didn't appreciate the combat in Mad Max as much, but imo it was right there with em in terms of fun and quality.
In my opinion, They should have made this game into a movie instead of Furiosa. I feel like the storyline and characters are significantly more intriguing and interesting- Max’s revenge on Scrotus, His companionship with Chum, Max’s relationship with Hope and her daughter which reminds him of his wife all while trying to rebuild his interceptor. The settings such as gastown, camps, the landscape and the general derelict structures like fallen highways depict the wasteland much better other than just a barren vast desert. I feel like Fury road was already aimed on the life of Furiosa and her ambition and the new movie Furiosa only gave more to her backstory that was unecessary but it’s still good. It’s a shame Miller wasn’t more into the game because it was and still is a masterpiece.
I loved the film and the game. Furiosa and Fury Road feel like a Part 1 and Part 2 epic story now. It’s like Furiosa is Acts 1 and 2 of a larger story and Fury Road is a climatic 2 hour Act 3 to this story now. I’m definitely going to watch them in this order on future rewatches of the whole franchise. I’ve seen Furiosa 3 times now and I notice more detail with each viewing. I love the world building of all the mad max films, but Furiosa doubled down on this aspect the most and I love it for that.
Saw your video about the game and own that game, both of which I loved. Haven’t seen the new movie, but yeah, even though it’s getting rave reviews from all the people I respect as movie reviewers (though everyone says it’s different and not quite as good as Fury Road, as you did) I’ll be waiting for the small screen release. It does have the Han Solo prequel problem, with bemused fans asking, “Who asked for this? Can’t we have more of Max himself?”
I tottaly agree with what you said👍😁, I also played the game, loved it and felt the same way about the movie, you could say the movie was what we saw in the game brought to the big screen!
Mad Max is one of my favorite games! I've played through all the way twice (122 hours), and am thinking about doing it again because I miss chasing convoys.
I thought it was a good movie with occasional great moments. I think the lukewarm part about it is that nothing was surprising? What we knew about Furiosa was that she's a badass who has been through a lot, and then Furiosa (the movie) shows exactly that with no real arc. I keep thinking about Andor as a comparison because that show so successfully gives Cassian additional layers throughout his journey.
I hope this boosts sales enough for us to get a sequel (direct or indirect, idc) to the game. No I don't think it actually will but I can still hope! 😊
I originally didn’t think Furiosa looked good from the trailers, but had a blast seeing it in theater and highly recommend it
Plenty of fun, but it dosent hit nearly as hard as Fury Road.
Same
Damn, here too. I had a feeling of too much CGI but I was actually enjoying it a lot
Fucking love that Mad Max game. Truly underrated and the funny part is that it goes on sale for like 5 bucks all the time.
I paid like $7 CAD on the psn like 3-4 years ago. Talk about value!
Actually just got it for 5 bucks on PSN this past weekend 😂
Literally just bought it for $3.79 from CDKeys. Playing through it for the first time. It’s genuinely great.
Such a underated game very well done
It’s ridiculous lol, can’t believe some of the best games are so cheap.
I'm playing through the game again. Still love the mood.
I just finished it yesterday for the first time
I wish there’s a harder difficulty. I wanna replay it but don’t feel an incentive
It was my very first platinum trophy. Mainly because all the canos were so different and cool looking
It’s always on sale, I want to play it at some point. My backlog is begging me to avoid buying any more games for a while.
Just got it on sale for 5 bucks absolute steal
However, the game was disliked by Miller because it gave a little spoiler.😅

Hemsworth got to be so goddamn Australian. It was brilliant.
So just himself.. turned up to 11
It's like when Jai Courtney played Captain Boomerang. I thought he was good as Cap Boom regardless of the movies.
I think Mr Sunday Movies described it as a nasally Australian 1980s accent. Very cool and specific
The Mad Max game will forever be something special to me. Picked it up Day one when it released and fell in love with it.. perfect example of an underrated gem of a videogame.
Fallout 4 stole its thunder, and it’s genuinely a better game (Fo4 is fine, but significantly flawed)
@@ultraviolet540 agreed tbh I thought fallout 3 & Las Vegas were better. All 4 had were better graphics & slightly improved combat imo..
What did Miller say?
@@MrWELL01 it's said in the video, but Miller essentially said that the game wasn't very good and implied Avalanche half-assed it
I saw the recent interview of George Miller talking about the game, I don't think he was bashing the game, just being upfront about its lack of success and came to the conclusion that it wasn't very good then
It definitely seems like all ire should be aimed at Warner Brothers
@@Takuat Right? Warner Brothers screwed over a lot of great games with poor marketing and lackluster support. WB canned any idea of a Hogwarts Legacy sequel despite it being their most successful games in decades. Instead they came up with this stupid live service version of Quidditch which bombed horribly once people realized it was merely a cash grab.
Loved Furiosa. For Miller's comments on the game, he probably saw the reviews and sales and made a conclusion, but the game totally is better than critics said it was at the time and has seemingly garnered a lot of love in recent years.
Just glad I got to see my boy Chumbucket in live action!!
Praise Be!!

@@theworkshopwhisperer.5902the game is actually cannon. It's set between Furosa and Fury Road.
At least for gaming, the indie scene is blowing up so far. It think the same can be said for films maybe
I guess people are just sick of girl bosses and woke garbage. 🤷🏽♂️
Because a small female with no weaknesses throwing around 200 pound dudes is not believable anymore and people are tired of it. Want proof? You just gave it yourself: "it's not doing well in the box office."
@@justinsantos8514 What are you talking about?
I've been holding out hope for another Mad Max game but with the movie not making a lot of money. It doesn't look like I'll ever get it. I love the game so much, I'd just drive around and enjoy the world for hours.
same it's so upsetting
I’m heartbroken that we might never get a sequel to Fury Road showing where Max is afterwards
I saw Chumbucket credited in Furiosa, and it made me smile!
Chumbucket is in Furiosa? O.O I must see this movie now!
@kingzach74 yes, small part. But VERY Chumbucket. You'll love it
@@larryhouse3776 I saw the movie, loved it.

Rich Evans of RLM said it best…
“If Fury Road was Kill Bill vol 1, Furiosa is Kill Bill vol. 2.” Which isn’t a bad thing
i think the other way around, yes vol 1 and fury road had the most action and furiosa and vol 2 are the most talkie ones. but the thing about furiosa is that it was meant to be part 1 in millers vision while fury road was part 2, but since he couldn get the crew he wanted he ended up making fury road while he was going to produce a furiosa anime just like he produce this game as "the wasteland" prequel, but since he was wasn't satisfy with the end result of the game he scraped the anime and went "FINE...
Yea, I agree
I actually watched fury road the night before I watched Furiosa and it’s unreal just how well Furiosa leads into fury road, damn near perfect I would say
lol… I know opinions can’t technically be wrong but yours gets pretty damn close.
Agreed. If anything Fury road was criticized for not having a lot of plot development and story. Furiosa had a lot more world building and a bigger story to tell.
Hell yeah! I like all movies on different notes but Furiosa is definitely more like a western than Fury Road.
It was really sad to hear that Furiosa bombed in theaters. The movie was the second best film I've seen this year; I just don't know how they did some of those effects and stunts.
I appreciate that opinion but honestly, I’m not surprised because none of us like he said we’re really expecting our wanting this
I remember a day when theatrical releases were allowed to build momentum over weeks through word of mouth, but now if a movie doesn't perform in the first weekend, it's a certified bomb.
Right? :D
@@simpleemodernThe Doof Warrior returns in this movie.

any time mad max gets into the conversation, i find myself replaying it. playing it for the 4th time because of furiosa.
so glad you’re talking about this game again, I rewatched your review last year and I replayed the game.
"The twenty zeroes", I love it 😂
I literally searched last week to see if you had a video on the Mad Max game 😂
That is dedication
You’re a true fan.
The war rig sequence in Furiosa was incredible so was the Bullet Farm fight those sequences definitely matched Fury Road.
The game is fantastic. Such an under-appreciated gem. I’m sure GM has no idea about the game itself, and is talking more about sales numbers. It was released the same day as MGS:V and iirc, it had almost zero marketing so never had a chance.
One constant of mad max: George Miller does love his weird little freaks that make you ask what their deal is
George

i am so so glad you’ve decided to cover this topic, you specifically. i rewatched your original video on the game recently as the Furiosa hype has been strong, and i was hoping you’d talk about this because i had been thinking many of the same things. i have already seen the movie twice in the theaters and will likely go back once more before they pull it. i really really enjoyed it, and would encourage anyone who hasn’t seen it to please do so, even if you’re new to the franchise. going back and replaying the game has only enhanced my enjoyment for Furiosa too. i guess i almost wish that they had held out on the game until now, since Furiosa isn’t even a story about Max at all, and actually feels way more connected to this film in a lot of ways than it did to Fury Road. i won’t spoil it for anyone that hasn’t seen it, but those that have understand what i mean i’m sure. for some reason i don’t really go back to Fury Road a whole lot, which i’m aware is a crazy thing to say, and again i absolutely loved that film, but Tom Hardy’s portrayal of Max really holds that film back in my opinion. as a fan of the originals, it was so disappointing that he couldn’t come anywhere near Mel Gibson’s level of charisma. i mean he doesn’t even do an Aussie accent. i also think it’s such a shame that the game didn’t get the love that it deserved, and i mean that mainly from a development pov. again, i love the game, but it’s kinda a glitchy nightmare, and the fact that there were never any add ons or DLC was really a shame. i wish they had more car bodies for the Magnum Opus, maybe some Aussie classics like the Holden Monaro or the Valiant Charger (which actually does appear in the game as an enemy vehicle). i also find it odd that it never had motorcycles or big rigs like the movies had become so iconic for. some very strange decisions were made for that game, but all things considered i think it came out pretty well, and truly does stand on its own two feet as the definitive Mad Max game.
The problem with fury road is i feels like all of it happens so fast
Watching Furiosa made me go back and play the game. Its pretty fucking great actually.
Hell yeah
Yeah it's one of the few open world games where it doesn't feel useless to go exploring to get yet another collectible. Maybe not as great of an open world as something like RDR2 but that game cost insanely more to make.
Interestingly the Max Max game is EXTREMELY highly rated. 96% of users liked the game and on steam it has a 9/10 rating.
Metacritic and IGN of course didn't give it glowing reviews but EVERYWHERE else it is a very high scoring game.
Man I never you had a Zolo channel I jus started mad max for da first time I been glued no bap🤣🤣🤣💯💤🐐
Jake is so fucking awesome. I loved his rendition of the War Rig vs Dirt Bikes theme
That came from a place of passion for fury road you could tell

Watching these clips from the game MAN it’s so beautiful.
2 of my favorite things about this game are
1. Little to no copy paste on strongholds and camps
2. The upgrades makes you noticabley stronger rather than just making you strong enough to keep up with increasing difficulty of the game
Please people, go to the theater and watch Furiosa or we will not get another Mad Max movie again.
This wasn’t a mad max film tho?
I have a greater appreciation for a lot of these movie tie-in hidden gems.
Playing RoboCop this year kind of showed me just how much It can add to a franchised game when the developers actually care about that franchise and put a lot of love and attention into it. When it nails the atmosphere that you imagine would be attached to it, that can make up for what can be
It got me to play through their Terminator game too which I'm thoroughly enjoying despite their still being some generic and sometimes subpar gameplay
But that mad Max game is awesome. It's kind of the same thing, I felt like anytime you were on foot and shooting felt a little clunky. But the fighting could be fun even if it still felt like another game at the time trying to do its own spin on the Arkham formula.
But they nailed just driving around the desert in an old muscle car, and they nailed the downright wacky and thrilling atmosphere of that world
Totally agree with you
Furiosa was a blast and expanded on the fury road world.
I've seen it yesterday and i loved it, gonna watch it again this time with my family this weekend 😂😂
Played the game for the 1st time a few days ago, and i enjoyed it. I'm gonna do another playthrough next year or at some point. can't wait to see the new movie.
I don’t think it’s fair to compare furiosa to fury road
They’re two different types of action movies set in the same universe
No one character in fury road put on as fantastical performance as Chris hemsworth did in furiousa
Appreciate all the effort you put in for us jake! ❤
Mad Max the game is disgustingly underrated. Only area of the game that I’m not as big on is parts of the story but gameplay and world wise it’s awesome and so much fun.
Thanks for doing this vid Jake. I never played this, but after seeing Furiosa and another viewing of Fury, I'm jumping into this.
Also Scrotus in the movie felt more like Stank Gum. Don’t know what you think about that.
Chumbucket is in the movie, I really liked that little nod.
Funny the reviews have always been at mostly positive and skyrocketed to Overwhelmingly Positive. Makes me really happy it’s getting more recognition
I like that I just watched the Mad Max video not long before this upload and after watching Furiosa I'm seated once again for Jake Baldino on more Mad Max stuff.
Just bought the game right now from all the Mad Max hype. This’ll be my first time playing through 😁
you are in for a treat! The game is amazing :)
Initially skipped out on the game but after rewatching the Mad Max movies (and reading the comic) in anticipation for Furiosa I grabbed it and I can't wait to dive in and see how they do things differently between that movie and the game and just to exist in the Wasteland
Keep on yapping Jake! We love it
I walked into fury road with no expectations whatsoever, when I walked out I bought another ticket and watched it again.
Hi Jake. I didn't put it together, but YES! The movie resembled the game more than the previous movie.
I'm one of the rare people that did not like Fury Road. I liked the first three movies. But didn't get Fury Road.
I was late to the party but ended up playing the game a couple of years ago with very low expectations. Loved it. I thoroughly enjoyed it and it made me want to rewatch Fury Road (which I never got round to)
Wasn't that drawn to Furiosa by the trailer or my feelings on Fury Road, but on a whim went to see it last night and it was ace.
“Not as good as I wanted it to be”
Everyone on TH-cam “ahh yes, the forgotten masterpiece”
Miller was critical of the game because Avalanche apparently took some story beats he wants to use in Mad Max Wasteland and kinda spoiled some of that movie long before he’s even shot it. Like from what I understand he gave them his notes for backstory/context and was surprised that they straight up adapted some of those notes.
I only got 4-5 hours into the Mad Max game because it released the same day as MGSV. What were they thinking! I’m giving it another shot now and loving it. Imagine a sequel that used the nemesis system from Shadow of Mordor
That would be WICKED.
Nemesis system but they hunt you down with newly improved and modified cars throughout the story
@@larryhouse3776 exactly!
It was basically the reason why the game flopped. MGS V was an absolute juggernaut when it was out.
this movie was one of the most captivating movies i’ve seen in like the past 10 years
Totally agree. I saw Furiosa last weekend, and thought about the game frequently throughout. Enjoyed both, but Fury Road is simply S-tier
Just started playing the game again today and man this is a blast! Haven’t seen Furiosa but think I may need to after diving back in.
She isn’t Charlize’s Furiosa though, she’s the character at a different point in her life, just like Mel & Tom’s portrayals of Max.
The movie made me jump back into the game. I never finished it, in fact I was super early in the game so it's nice to hop in
Great review-really sucks that people slept on this movie.
I was amazed with the world building in it... Can't wait for Wasteland now that will be a prequel of Fury Road from Max's point of view.
Man I thought this movie already came out. I didn't realize it just came out. I feel like they didn't market this movie very well.
Just bought & beat the game in 4 days, why aren't they making a sequel?!?! There's a whole community behind this!
I loved that Mad Max game. Still very good today.
Watched multiple videos of you recommending Mad Max Game. Okay, I'm sold.
Fury Road 10/10 Furiosa 9/10
I love the game. I love the world. I love the lore. I'll definitely watch furiosa, but probably not in theaters.
Thanks, Jake!
Love you!
Huge mad Max fan. I lived on the OG films throughout my childhood. Loved fury Road. I agree, a prequel was unnecessary. A sequel was very necessary.
I’d love to see a remastered version of the game Mad Max. It still is super amazing. Maybe just higher textures and 4K resolution.
I hope this boosts sales enough for us to get a sequel (direct or indirect, idc) to the game. No I don't think it actually will but I can still hope! 😊
