Will it work the same way for the 3•8 engines
@@stallion23ful I’m not sure. As I have only the 3600 2012
Is it easy to change the filter if needed?
@@stallion23ful Yes sir I have a 3.8 engine and it works great 👍👍👍
Thank you so much for helping me out🎉🎉🎉🎉
you're very welcome!
Fantastic video. Very thorough instructions. Thanks for creating it!
I learned this a few years ago for my 2011 DGC and added permanent lines with the edge of a file. Just etched them in lightly on the back side so as not to confuse them with the oil level marks. Also, be sure the vehicle is level when checking. Thanks for the video.
Thanks for the good video. I used to work at ITP4 (Daimler Chrysler Indiana Transmission Plant Sector 4) The plant was actually installed and commissioned to build only the 62TE platform. Brother, we couldn't get them out fast enough! They were designed with one thing only in mind. To populate the roads with as many as possible. At first, no expense was spared and so many of our parts came from Germany while Shanghai spooled up. Those transmissions had the best parts but the worst assembly processes in ITP4 while we learned how to build them.. After 18 month of that, the whole damn thing flipped over to being horrible parts and just working with what we had.. For what its worth, if you just keep the fluid clean and the pan wiped out every 60k or so, they'll serve the owner well, who drives cool and doesn't race the hell out of them. The two big things that kill the 62TE is heat and contam. Keep them cool and clean and don't skip out on the fluid swap. If you do, just leave them alone because now you are just on borrowed time. My advice is if you let them go past 120k, sell the damn thing.
Thanks for your comment I appreciate the info
Thank you sir! For the record, (not mentioned in video) the oil is filled into the trans via the same tube you checked the level in.
My 2016 Dodge Grand Caravan is doing the same thing - slipping gears. Hopefully it’s just low on transmission fluid. I took it to one garage and they said “you have a sealed transmission so we can’t check it. You have to take it to a dealer.” NO WAY! A dealership is gonna nickel and dime me. Thanks for this video!!!
Thanks brother. My cars been shuttering when shifting I didn’t think you could check the fluid cause there wasn’t a stick and now it’s in limp mode. Gonna try to get this done when I get home and hope that’s the only issue.
Take your mark and use a small scribe and make a little line its top in the bottom of your marks and then don't worry about washing off.Because it'll just be there so you can check it easily any time.I've done that.I have that on five different vans
Hi . Very much liked your detailed explanation of how to check the transmission fluid and associated informative details along the way. Thank you!
I will just make me a stick so I don't have to redo it 😂 but definitely awesome tip 💪🏻✊🏻✌️
You are awesome man! Thank you so much for making this video. This was extremely helpful. Keep spreading the love. 👊🏾🫡
Thank you very much for your help. Simple and clear. God bless you!!!
Thanks, I watched many but you taught it very simple and effective.
Very good video heard about this even bought the tool from Amazon this is so much better
Thank you step by step I have to check mine great info❤
They don't have a transmission dipstick because they say that their transmission fluid does not have to be changed during the lifetime... Question is just what they consider "a lifetime"... Once the warranty is over, the lifetime is over? What if I drive the Grand Caravan longer than the warranty lasts?... Thanks for the video!
great video , thanks
Thank you, your video was very helpful. I was wondering... do you put the transmission oil in the hole you pulled the plug out of? TY
@@LindaGoin-fo8iz yes the same hole. And thanks for your comment!
Your video is AWESOME. Perfect explanation. I check my 2013 and it was L O W. Marked the oil stick just like you said. Worked Great. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.
You’re very welcome. Thanks for watching.
Don't do that. Any time when you leave the engine running , fluid will be low.
@@mikaTx that’s how you check most vehicles transmissions is with it running.
Look it up.!
Cool🙌😌 my man very good explanation ❤
Clear understanding explanation .
Thanks a bunch
@@asadullah1640 your very welcome
A minute into the video I was like "hmmm he sure sounds Canadian eh" and sure enough you are lol. I'm from Toronto, with at 2018 DGC.
I grew up in Scarborough tho. Moved out of Ontario years ago
@@Southsideboystyle I came to Canada in 91. I like Toronto but I feel the need to move out too. Nice video btw. Keep it up
I saw "south side". I'm from the south side of Chicago. But when I heard "onscrew" and "diller" (unscrew and dealer)... i knew I was out of my realm. 😀 Btw I have a 2015 Grand Caravan and mine setup looks way different. It has a 1/2" metal tube rising up between the battery and engine. I'm assuming that's where my trans cap/dipstick/fill location should be. (It's missing the cap/plug).
@@BDUBZ49 must be a different model
Nice detailed video
This the same for.the bigger engine 4.0 I think? Dodge caravan 2008 sxt
There are other videos of this, but I like this one the best.
@@southernshooter I tried my best to explain it hope it helped.
How do you add transmission oil through this dealer cap hole?
@@angelrivera-sj6gk yes
I used a long funnel with clear plastic hose that fits into the filler tube... push the tube onto the funnel-end.
I just changed my fluid and filters on my 2007 Dodge caliber and I would like to check the fluid level. I was just gonna to put in the exact amount of transmission fluid I took out.
Problem with that is was there the correct amount in it to begin with
I have a 2011 Dodge caravan with a 3.6 vvt I have a fuel leak if I am standing at the front driver side looking at the motor almost towards the back is where I noticed it. What could it be?
Appreciate the video. Do u put the trans fluid in the same place u check it?
@@divinesoulutions yes same place were I check it.
Use a funnel works best
@@Southsideboystyle thank u so much
Thanks
Thanks dude . Why does my temp gauge which used to always be right in the middle now stay at the 1/4 level?
Nice ty very much
I also think your chart is off. My chart says 62TE on the top. Your says 68RFE. IDK what that is but there are slight differences.
do you add fluid thru that same hole?
@@rockdueck615 yes
Have you gotten your transmission repaired yet? The level you measured looked ok for warm transmission fluid. The level you marked on the dipstick was for hot transmission fluid. What were your codes for the check engine light?
My transmission is fine. Van works great. My engine code was evap system. ( gas cap )
Evap, gas cap is a must have code for any vintage DGC hehe. But yes you can clean the gas cap the code may go away and then return
Great vid bud thank you
Your welcome
Is that for reading Hot or Cold marks?
hot
thanks a lot very helpfull!!! what transmission fluid would you recommend for these grand caravan to add if needed?
ATF+4 synthetic type 9602 fluid
@@Southsideboystyle thanks a lot, so that is my next weekend adventure and challenge!!!
@@ano758 good luck!
At 1045 you stick bottoms out but then you push it down further after that. I take it the engine must be running while checking the level?
Yes that’s correct you really have to make sure it bottoms out.
Your vid says to drive it for just 15 SECONDS to warm it up. Better change it to minutes or it won't be warmed up and you won't get an accurate reading because the fluid won't be expanded and you will end up adding too much fluid.
👍👍✅ thanks for your help
Thank you
Thank you for the step by step. I checked mine when it was cold and it showed full. With explains why my van didn't want to shift gears
Glad the video helped
Of course it will full cold? Take it for a twenty minute ride then check the tranny fluid .Its always better to be thought of as a moron than to open your mouth and remove all doubt!
The "safe" area that you marked on the oil dipstick looks like it is at the same safe marking for the oil stamped on the dipstick.
yes its very close
The motor most be running while the stick is in?
Yes
LOVE You Thank You!
You’re welcome
But that's only half the job. Now that you know that fluid needs to be added, how do you add fluid with the opening way down there where you can't even see it? Is there a special tube or funnel or other device to facilitate adding the fluid?
Use a funnel as I do. With a long narrow spout.
Just use the same dipstick, it's so close to same med level, etch it if you want.
You mention if its low to top but what does one do if its bit over fill?
@@NycForgiato there is a drain bolt somewhere towards the bottom
After warming up the Caravan, where/how do I add the trans fluid, if needed?
In that same hole with a funnel
@@Southsideboystyle thanks!
How do you put fluid I ? The same place you cheked it?
Yes
thanks you
How did you get the dipstick to go down that far? Whenever I put the dipstick in It doesn't go down nearly that far before it bottoms out.
Sometimes you have to twist it a little and pull up a bit than try. Yea at times it’s a bit difficult
The graph at 13:27 shoes 2.1 for low and inches and 2.4 for full.
Also your transmission will never reach 200°F in 15 seconds of driving
It depends on the temp, at 20°C it shows 0.3" min & 0.7" max. Millimetres seems easier if you have metric, you'll need to convert decimal to 1/16" otherwise.
Ok so I tried this today. When the car was completely cold and I put the dipstick in, it comes out oily a little pass the 2" line on the stick.. Then when I turn it out, ran it for 15 minutes, passed gears ETC.. I then did the level test on running temp 200F and stick came out dry as if it had no fluid. Correct me if I'm wrong, isn't the dipstick suppose to come out with just the tip showing a slight bit of fluid when its cold and then at the 2" mark when it's hot? What happened here?
My opinion it needs fluid. They are supposed to be checked warm
Thank you for sharing
Greetings, sir, will this work on a 2007 Dodge caliber RT 2.4 L?
What year is the red van?
2012
Do you check it while it running
Yes while running
@@Southsideboystyle Why while running? I am not too keen on getting my hand into the hot motor, let alone all the moving parts and wiggle around in there... When you drive around to heat up the transmission fluid and then come back and turn it off and do the measurement right then and there (not taking a break and going to the restroom and drinking a coffee and chatting with the wife and all of that lol, but do it right then), wouldn't that suffice?
@@danielthommen8243 as to be running to check the level , i suggest you go to a mechanic .
To confirm as I am sure the van engine is running, you check it while it is running?
Yes. As in most vehicles check while running
@@Southsideboystyle Thank you subscribed 🙂
How many letters 3.5 6 speed dodge journey
What is the transmission number for an '05 T and C?
It’s just a 4 speed automatic
Open the driver's side door and look for a white placard with small black lettering. This card contains specific details about the year the car was made, its transmission, engine specifications and other details.
@@Southsideboystyle great thanks
How do you know if it’s a 62TE engine?
@@sadieladie5195 through research. And experience
@@Southsideboystyle My van is a 3.8 L, so apparently it’s not. I still can’t locate a dipstick, but the plug he pulled is there, but in a different location.
As far as experience, there are things I would never attempt (wiring being one) but have self taught for over 20 years. Research? That’s what I’m doing. Haynes has helped over the years and you tube is great. At 73, this mechanic stuff is a learning process that continues. Sure do respect these people that make these videos, using their knowledge and experience.
@ what year is your van. And is it a dodge caravan. I know of 3.3 up to 2010. Than 3.6 after that. I’m not sure of the newer models tho I did research on mine 2014 caravan 3.6.
@ 2008, 3.8
Where did you get the bug visor up on your hood
it was on it when we bought it
Ok, so now how do you add fluid?
@@krisjustkris7970 in the same hole that you checked the fluid. I clearly say that
How to do a total transmission flush?
Remove the trans pan get a new filter and gasket. Than trans fluid.
@@Southsideboystyle Loooooot of work and you need to lift the car, no way you'd have enough room just crawling underneath it... Let alone the fluid pouring out all over your face while you're laying there... lol
... forgot to mention WHAT Type of transmission fluid the trans takes???
Do u know??? Please, Do Tell.
-O ☯️
Many use Castrol ATF+4
When it’s hot?
Yes
The chart you showed was for a 68RFE transmission not a 62TE
Also for the 62TE
Amazon trans fluid dipstick $9.95 for this transmission
Do you have a link?
That is too high for low temps.
I scrubbed lines on my engine dip stick from 5mm, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, 35 and 40mm
Today the outside temp was 20F and the trans oil got up to 90F and the target is 18mm
The other day it was 130F and spec was 30mm.
measurements are wrong, use care here, mine says 10mm to 40mm range for average cold to hot levels. Be sure to cycle through the gears before making the measurement.
I heard never touch your transmission fluid. I also have 2017 Grand Caravan. Never touched or checked.
use mm and cm for next measurement . i promise you the fact that fractions are not involved results in a more accurate and math ease.
YES! Finally someone comes to his senses... 1 7/16... seriously... Why not just 41mm (or whatever is closest)... 1 MM is WAY more accurate than 1/16 of an inch...
However, it really gets me when people combine the metric system and the US system with 1/16, 1/12 and so on, like when someone writes a measurement of 0.7 INCH... So what is .7 inch? Basically it is 0.7 of an inch, so one inch divided by 10, multiplied by 7, but an inch is divided in 16th, So 16 divided by 10 and times 7, hence 1.6 times 7, which also leaves us with a metric system result... I mean, come on, make a decision and go for the metric system, you are still in the USA and nobody will laugh and bully you, it is just simpler and easier, 10, 100, 1000... Not 1/12, 1/16, 3 feet, and all the other things... Multiply/divide by 10 and done... 10mm = 1cm... 10cm = 1dm... 100cm = 1m... 1000m = 1km... And so on...
All this and you don't mention what type of trans fluid to add.
👍
It shouldn't be this hard, we shouldn't need measuring tapes, scales, graphs, doing math to check tranny levels...those automakers should be ashamed of their greedy actions.
i agree
8:18 Bird's eye view!
Wow,was this painful to watch. Why complicate such a simple task? I bought a transmission dipstick from Amazon for 30 bucks!!
IF it takes a 17+ minute video to explain how to check the level, then THAT is NOT the definition of simple!
Einstein once said that if you can't explain something simply then you don't understand it well enough... he left out the part where you can explain something well enough to someone simple and they still won't understand... so sometimes it takes a lot to explain stuff... this video is a simple explanation but may seem complex to some...
Good video!
@@MW-xm1rc really sucks 😞
My preschooler can explain this in 3min.😂
Nice!!!
A lot of "you need a new transmission in your Dodge Caravan" should be "you need to service your transmission...it will be fine if you do"
Or you could use half of your brain and change the filter and tranny fluid before you have problems! And laying off the booze is never a bad idea!
Thats not true i have an 08. Se 3.3 and it has the trans dipstick
I said in the 3.6.
