    Love the Oberon class as its multiple role , frankly if you want a flagship it works so well and its about the only one as a rogue trader that would work due to the versatility it has

      I love the Oberon, next to a Retribution or Apocolyps it just lack survivability for line work, my one got chewed up during the 3rd War for Armageddon by Ork Kruzers and limped off with 1 hull point, keeping it behind the line line an Emerpor means u can't take full advantage of it's flexibility, I think an Oberon with a Retribution style armoured hull and Torps would be a lot more successful... a battleship which could line break and deliver bombers point blank with no chance for intercept, very nice

    I actually like the Invincible class. The main problem wasn't with the design it was that some tacticians didn't bother studying its strengths and weaknesses and used it in a way that allowed those weaknesses to be exploited easily. Use it as a flagship of a high speed force for hit and run tactics on the flanks of enemy lines and it does well. Or as the flagship of a patrolling all fast ship squadron for hunting raiders as it was originally intended.

      I would say the main problem of the Invincible was that it wasn't invincible :D

    The Emperor class is my favorite. I always thought massive amounts of fighters/bombers will find a way to win engagements.

      Closer to modern warfare than just plain battleships.

    The Emperor class battle ship suffers the same designs flaws as pre-dreadnought battleships, the "do everything ship" as well as the cathedral design limits the firing arcs of its weapons. As well as taking up space for more weapons. It is also completely blind behind it do to the cathedral blocking the firing arc.

      I think this is offset by a lot because it is a capable carrier. Besides, the primary batteries are decidedly unsuited to being fitted to turrets or any flexible mount anyway, so they will have to turn to fire regardless

    Give me a stripped down Invincible with as many lance batteries as the core can take. Torpedoes, spurs and monuments can go to another ship. I want it 'quick' with long range accurate fire. Ideally you are running it with a fleet of sensor focused escorts in a wide pattern or run it with a sensor array on the prow and have heavier gunned ships running a tight escort.

    Oberon makes a good "I don't know what I need" Venerable Battle Barge.

    Rougue trader point of view. So there is a ship, that was BUILD to best 95% of most active warships in the universe up to the battlecruiser classes (other rouge traders, xenos, hell eldars even) and outrun the rest, wich "failed" the navy by not being the tool, the admirals anticipated it is. It was stretched to the point, the admirals used it as a tank, instead of a quick mobile artilery and during such engagements it came out its achiles heel - it is possible to be blown up quite quickly (in comparison with other imperial battleship) when targetting its power conduits. The ship supposedly had problems with energy distribution and is considered such a fail by the navy, that might be bought for one throne just to free the shipyard berth, or (presumably) for price of scrap. Is big enough to undergo a crussade on its own, running on the supplies it broght within and hande some cargo too. Its firepower would be a thing of envy by all other rouge traders (who usually had to be glad to get their hands on simple light cruiser). The negative reputation of the class may be on the other hand handy, when someone wants to get you a dirty suprise. The only thing to keep the ship running flawlessly would be an upgrade (probably some design change). wich (considered a technoheresy, or made with alien tech help) may be done (legaly only) by rouge trader. There you go. Perfect rouge trader ship. In need of some upgrade, but many rouge traders do not hesitate to "heretech" upgrade or add some xeno tech to their vessel. And it does not need to stay only there at all. The weapons could be little bit "upgraded" too, dont they. Maybe even to the point, one gundeck to be replaced by fighterbay, to hunt tose few ships qicker then themselves. For the similar reason (practicality, power and less purchasing cost than the others after its shifting out of the active duty), the Oberon might be good for rouge trader too. For obvious reasons, the Emperor not so much, safe it is a flagship of a full fleet capable of defending it.

      I don't think Rogue Traders have to face what the segmentum fleet has to face on a regular basis.

    • @ultramarinus2478
      @ultramarinus2478 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      True and false both i think.
      True:
      - There are very little objectives (planets, dockyards) that the rouge trader would risk (and possibly loose) his/her ship for.
      - When the enemy is too strong, any and all normal thinking rouge trader should and will escape.
      - The RT usually do not engage in great fleet battles at all - especially when not payd for it.
      False:
      - Segmentae fleets are by deffinition deffensive flotillas, not venturing on purpose (not counting some short lived counterofensives) behind the imperium borders, let alone behind the light of the astronomican, or on the xenos controlled teritory.
      - Any and all "defensive" or "prototype" weapon systems the xenos have, the rouge traders are more probably to face, than the segmentum fleet.
      - Segmentum fleet fights in reach of their bases, repair facilities and supply lines. When facing bigger threat, there is still possibility to call for help, rally the fleet and let the "big boys" do the heavy poundering, if the target is too resilient. Fleet works as a team - what one type of ship can not doo, the other can - they supplement each others shortcomings and boosts each others strenghts. VERY LITTLE RT "fleets" does have this capability in terms of void combat.
      - Segmentum fleets consist mostly (and to fight goes almost only) navy vessels, build and ment for combat. RT fleet usually consists of mixed, mainly civilian, or repurposed civilian vessels, and some escorts for them. If the fleet consist of only ONE ship, it tends to be as badass navy vessel as the rouge trader was able to geth his/her hands on.
      - There may be planet (or a cluster at some point), wich the RT WOULD defend to the last ship and the last breth. If the planets are his/hers, and are technologicaly advanced enough to produce a ships and taxes in the future, it may be enough for the RT to face the same threts, the segmentum fleet does. Maybe bigger, because in one ship, or smaller fleet.
      Sure, the RT do not face the same type of opposition as segmentum fleet, but it does not mean the opposition is (especially behind the borders) less strong, and RT has MUCH less strenght (than segmentum fleet) to respond in force to that kind of strenght. But the Invincible class is apex predator of enemy escorts, raiders ships, corsairs, and other RTs. It can catch them (unlike other battleship hulls) and it can quite easily outgun them from afar, cripple them, board them and add them to its evergrowing fleet. If used right, in "hit and run" tactics, this ship could have much better use, than all other (comparably armed) battleship types. Because of its size and engine strenght, the Invincible could probably tow its prey (up to cruiser size), or accomodate a single detachable berth underneth, like the ethernal crusader does. We are speaking about possibility of building new ships behind "enemy line", or repairing and upgrading RTs own. Even setting a clandestine base there, to extend the supplycache lifeline (similary to the way, the logistics was done by old polar expeditions).

    Oberon could of worked as a design, but it really would need the armoured prowl, the sensor array just doesn't cut it for the line/independent role it fulfils, had one get chewed to ribbons during the 3rd War for Armageddon campaign simply because head on it couldn t take the fire as well as the fire as well as the cruisers around it, also without the torpedoes the prowl would bring lacks a certain amount of foward firepower

    The Invincible- class shares it design and history with the british battleships of ww1. the battle where they lost 3 of them in short order a lot like the battle of jutland. it is like reading like ww1 acounts about the battle of jutland.

    Just saw an ad for WISH, they had microfiber cloth mops for your feet so you can dance in the mess you make when you spill flower or any other baking debris in your kitchen. I believe it was supposed to be so you can push it around with your feet but who wants to have fun, and who wants to actually sweep up the mess and get it cleaned and done with? Buy me a broom and dust pan, as they cost the same as the foot dust mops, you would then actually have a dust pan, and can complete the objective in 1/20th the time. The things we suffer through for you GDN such horror is equivalent to the unspeakable terrors that reside in the warp!

      I would think that the carriers would all be included in a "carrier class" video & maybe transports would be included to make the video full length as I havnt founnd much lore on either though they are very essential ships in any imperial fleet

    • @GrimDarkNarrator
      @GrimDarkNarrator  6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I will hopefully include it in a video with all the other unmentioned battleships. Indeed, there is very little lore on it, though.
