    Great show of testing on that awesome Champion 3400! Looking forward to your video on your power meter too!!! I have the Champion 3400 Dual Fuel only run it on Gas though, had it since 2017 and LOVE IT! Approximately 550 hours on it so far and going strong with regular oil changes and an occasional sark plug change and cleaning of the air filter and spark arrester screen.

    Just bought this generator today! Going to bring my Cougar 32BHS Fifth wheel to a wedding tomorrow and it’s going to be hot. Wanted a way to run the ac especially putting the kids to bed early. Excited to test the propane feature overnight while using the gas during the day. Happy to know I can run the 15k AC no problem and also use a few other features. The fridge can stay on trailer propane.

    • @johnnysweekends

      It will easily run the AC and fridge unless you happen to be at high altitude and the temps are really hot.
      But yea that will be a good gen…👍🏼

    Thanks for the video! So, if the battery die when running on gasoline , you can’t use the generator at all ? Why ?

    • @johnnysweekends
      @johnnysweekends  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I assume if the generator is running it should continue to run on run. I would think. But i didnt test that. But i did find it odd that they designed it to fire up on propane and not gas with out a battery.
      It even says in the manual will not run on fuel with out a battery. But lpg it will.
      I should email them and ask why this is.
      I may even do a little investigating again on the gen lol. Over its still nice for sure.

    Awesome video. We just bought our first pop up camper and it has a Dometic 13500 BTU A/C. Would using the propane fuel feature start it up OK and be enough watts to run it. Only other thing would be some LED lights and a 12v dometic refrigerator/freezer cooler. Thanks for sharing ur knowledge and info. 😊👍

    • @johnnysweekends
      @johnnysweekends  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No problem for this gen to start a 13500k AC unit. It will do it on propane or gas easy.
      13500k needs about 16 or so amps to start and about 11 to 12 amps to run.
      So you’ll be fine...😀

    Great video. I debated between the Predator 3500 and this Champion dual fuel generator. I ultimately settled on the Champion due to its smaller size, dual fuel capability, and better warranty. Although the Predator 3500 has great reviews, the 90 warranty made me uncomfortable (although I understand an extended warranty is available). I ordered the Champion from Lowes using my military discount (10%) and saved $100!

    • @johnnysweekends
      @johnnysweekends  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I’ve been using propane more now as it’s less dangerous, plus I don’t have to worry about the storage or carb stuff. Plus on the Rv I have a couple large on board tanks.

      @@johnnysweekends ohhh yes, I understand now.
      I ordered the dual power some minutes ago, I'm happy that you think it's a good generator.
      We'll use only for emergency, a longer blackout for example....
      3000+Wh output is more than enough, the first thought was the Honda EU2200i (EU22i in Europe of course), but it's only 2000Wh...seems to weak.
      The Honda is around €1050, single fuel and 2000Wh output.
      The Champion was €1180, I got dual fuel and bigger by half power output.
      (without tax)
      So, if the quality will be ok, (this is what no question at Honda), I'll happy with it.

    Am I hearing it correctly, that a charged batter is required to start and run on gas? You can’t use the pull start with a dead battery or missing battery?

    • @johnnysweekends
      @johnnysweekends  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Correct. This particular model will run on propane with no battery using the pull start. But it will not fire with out a battery or a dead battery. It needs to have some voltage for it to fore up on gas.
      So its nice it fires up on something lol.

  • @tonydtom536
    @tonydtom536 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    • @johnnysweekends
      @johnnysweekends  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It’s been a while since it reviewed the unit. But yes In the instructions it says it’s able to run on propane only if the battery is dead or not installed. And when I tried it that’s what would happen. Now they could have updated it since then.
      Not sure why they would even do that as it should start with both.

    Great thorough video. However I have a question and hopefully you'll answer. I recently purchased this generator to hook up to my Micro Minnie Trailer it's equipped with a GE 15000 BTU air conditioning unit. Running on propane the generator went on overload mode shortly after we turned on the air conditioning unit. Contacted Champion haven't heard back from them. Any thoughts?! Thanks..Hugh

    • @johnnysweekends
      @johnnysweekends  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      So i also have a 15k ac unit which it ran fine and draws about 14 or so amps. What else are you running because that should be no problem unless there is something wrong with ac unit or you have a lot of draw from other items. Maybe the converter is working hard because of lights and other items on. Or fridge is on ac and other items as well…?????

    • @backroadsxplorer572

      @@johnnysweekends Thank you for your response. I actually called Champion yesterday and the first question they asked "was I at altitude when I tried to run the AC". Indeed I was at 8300ft. For every 1000ft above sea level the generator looses about a 100amps do to thinner oxygen. This unit works like the old fashion cars back in the day before fuel injection. My trailer is being warranty fixed at the moment I'll give her a try when I get it back and let you know my findings! Thanks for getting back to me.

      @@johnnysweekends I just watched your video it does confirm what Champion told me. Since I live in Northern AZ at about 4800ft and we do quite a bit of camping locally at that altitude and at times higher re-jetting would be an option but we also go to lower altitude so I don't want to chance it. How do you feel about the soft start unit?

    • @johnnysweekends
      @johnnysweekends  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      A soft start would definitely beneficial at altitude and even heat because heat robs power. But a hot start only takes care of the starting draw of amps. Once running it will still draw the same amps.
      Yea when at altitude a bigger gen is recommended if always there.
      I also get not wanting to reject because when coming to lower altitude it will be to lean and burn up.

    What are your thoughts on the use of a magnetic dipstick to catch metal particles ? Is OK after 5 hour break in to use 5-30 or 10-30 synthetic oil ? Thanks for your great reviews .

    • @johnnysweekends
      @johnnysweekends  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      You can switch to 5-30 synthetic when your done sure.
      The magnetic oil dipstick …….
      I always think of it like this.
      I change the oil in my lawn mower for several years….. I always look at it for debris or ya know what ever may make it’s way. Swish it around and that’s it. Never see any metal. What you may capture if any I bet will be minimal to none.
      But there is always someone willing to see people something.

      Thank you....no either should be fine and heat cycles are great for it or vary the loads.
      Heat cycle is fire gen up...warm it up a minute or 2 before load....then add a small load.....medium load then a higher 80% ish load....for a couple mins then back it all they way off ....and unplug everything and shut it off.
