    For those wondering about the 4x4 light, that’s a result of the battery being disconnected. Something to do with the steering angle sensor. To fix it you literally need to drive and turn the wheel from lock to lock and then it fixes itself

    You should have added it on the right front side of the engine ( place strap from frame rail to the right side engine mount bolt) it’s a better fit away from the shafts. Check for water ingress in the rear trunk, those modles also have problems with the micro power module ( located in the spare rear well) getting submerged in water. This might be the real problem and the ground is unnecessary.

    • @TrulyMotors

      Make sure you're only jumping the negative side of the battery to the engine block with the jumper cables. I would make sure you're battery is fully charged and if it still doesn't start I'd look into the starter. Check the voltage at the starter and if it's cranking slow, it's very possible the starter is bad.

      Double check the connections to the terminals on the battery but if it's completely dead, it's most likely a bad battery. A dud battery could keep it from running, BMWs are super weird about having good batteries.

      Which cable are you referring to, the jumper cables? Don't remove them while the car is running. That could cause issues because the alternator would be generating a current that can't get to the battery if there is in fact an issue with the engine's ground strap.

    • @TrulyMotors
      @TrulyMotors  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I suspected the problem with this car was the engine block did not have a good enough connection to ground for the starter motor to turn the engine over. All I did with the jumper cables was jump the ground connection from the battery straight to the engine block. I used both cables attached to ground for the best connection possible. When it started with a good ground from the jumper cables, I knew the issue was with the ground strap which is what normally gives ground to the engine block.

    My bmw wont start at all. Got a new battery car ran fine for a week then was dead again. Tow guy said the car was getting power but not turning over. Jumped it again. Ran for a week or two and died again. Can the ground strap be the cause?
    Edit: figured it out i had actuator issues with my front doors and didnt even think about it because i just saw it as a minor inconvenience that can be fixed any time. Well the actuators wound uo being parasitic to the battery. The actuator basically kept the car thinking someone was trying to constantly lock/unlock the door. Hey this is a great video! but I can’t seem to figure out if it’s the same issue with my 2008 bmw 535xi. My alternator was bad so we replaced it but beforehand we replaced the battery. Battery wasn’t the issue however we left the new battery in. This was about a month ago and today I attempted to replace the battery back to the old one, we had to jump start it and it turned on after a few times trying and leaving it connected for a good 30 min. Left it on for 1 hour and turned it off and tried turning it on a few times but wouldn’t work. We reapplied the new battery and same thing, this time it wouldn’t make a sound while turning on but all the electrical components work and it was reading 12.1 v to 12.3v. Do you think it may be the starter after attempting to start up the vehicle after many many times? Or what could it be

    • @TrulyMotors
      @TrulyMotors  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      It could be a bad ground like in the video. You can can get proper voltage with a bad ground as long as you're not cranking the starter. Then once you try to start it, the starter doesn't have enough ground and nothing happens. I would recommend trying the jumper cable method I used in the video!

    Cool video! Maybe you can help us.
    We had a battery installed in our 2011 528I. The battery WAS NOT registered. Car started and ran fine, everything functioned. Drive the car home. About 5 hours later we loaded up to go somewhere and noticed the car would not turn over. So far we've gotten an ignition malfunction warning and while the car recognizes the fob the doors will not lock. The center locking switch is also not working, but the hazard lights DO WORK. NO ONE remotely works on BMW's, and our mechanic is not in great health and thus not dependable. Fuses as best as we can tell are good. A tech is coming tomorrow to exchange the battery. Help us!

      The only advice I have would be to make sure the battery is fully charged. I would disconnect it from the car, charge it fully, and go from there.

      @@TrulyMotors We tried that once already. Nothing changed. For the sake of others lets keep this thread going. If you learn something or I end up paying thousands...everyone will know what happend. So yeah, if you learn anything or think of anything it would be greatly appreciated.

      So did you get it fixed? I'm guessing not registering the battery was part of it ?

    how do i do this on the 550i

      @TrulyMotors  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It should be very similar. Remember, the goal here is just to make sure the engine block has a good connection to the vehicle's ground.

    If adding a new ground strap do u need to replace old one if u can’t find it ? Or can you just add a new one somewhere

    • @TrulyMotors
      @TrulyMotors  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      You can just add a new one like I did in the video. I never found the old one but also didn't look very hard.

      When I jumped ground to the engine with the jumper cables and it started, that confirmed to me that it was a grounding issue. Thanks for watching!

      If the battery is really dead, a jump might not be enough.
