That smile on your face makes you look like a little boy. And that's what ABBA can do: just make you feel happy in a very pure way. I think it's the greatest goal they achieved. Nothing really serious, but it's so much well done!
I agree with previous comment. Dereck, you give a special charm to your videos. And it's admirable when we imagine that you were born after ABBA's retirement of music 🎶. We can see that you enjoy ABBA's music; you know what a good music is.
The song's inspiration was when Björn jogging and singing "tck-a-ch" repeatedly to himself, which turned into the background and the phrase "take a chance on me" :)
Definitely one of my most favourites! You should totally look "The Name of the Game" too! The song is very complex as structure and the video is priceless :)
I loved your reaction! Fun fact: One day while he was jogging, Björn (one of the two men) kept repeating to himself a percussive rythm formed by the sounds “t-k-ch” as his feet moved relentlessly forward in his jogging path. Within these sounds he found the phrase ‘Take A Chance’. Then, he just added ‘On Me’ and thus the song was born. For your next video, I suggest ‘Does Your Mother Know’ or ‘Money, Money, Money’.
Love this one and live it’s a real crowd pleaser and has everyone up dancing !!! Time to get out the feather boa and dance like there’s no tomorrow……. Perfect again and off To raid the feather boas and decide which one to take next year to see them at the new ABBA Arena in London !!!!!
"Take A Chance On Me" outsold "Dancing Queen",,, and stayed longer on the U.S. charts. I was in Europe that year and brought back an LP of "The Album", and it was much better presented than the U.S. version (double-sleeve),,, and "Take A Chance On Me" was slightly longer (by a few seconds) than the U.S. album (on Atlantic). At this stage, they were at the height of their popularity (heyday). My favourite 🅰🅱🅱🅰 song.🥰💓🎼🎶🎵
It's strange how in different moments in our lives, our reactions to things can be very different. I bought the VHS of the Abba Gold compilation back then and I thought their music videos were not really impressive, pretty childish and I was disappointed and almost underwhelmed in a way. But what I didn't realise then, is that, most bands or acts that specialized in making great and elaborate music videos (like say Duran Duran or Michael Jackson) didn't start making proper music videos until 1981 or 1982 (and they were seen as pionneers then). But today when I saw this music video, I had so much fun watching it, it's uncanny. It surprised myself. I really enjoyed the simplicity of it and it took me on a joyful ride. You can't help but feel happy watching this and now yearning for those more simpler times.
This has always been one of my favorite of their songs. The video is a little dated, maybe a bit cheesy in a way most of them aren't. But it's so cute & flirty & upbeat that I just love it anyways.
I like how the interchange of minor and major chords in verses expresses this tension between fantasy and reality. The optimism of what she's imagining in "So much that I wanna do" and "it's magic" is denied or doubted by minor chord. Also tension in chorus (which is 21 bars) is created by irregular number of bars to chords changes. Very intricate multi-part pop song indeed with a lot of details.
If you listen to the fourth cd of thank you for the music box set you’ll listen to the way they improvised the music to get to the chorus. I would be interested To know how many songs started with improvisation
Lasse Hallström was cleverly concealing Agnetha's pregnancy in the video by shooting her only from the chest up and making her wear a cardigan. He also repeat the technique on the video of Name Of The Game.
Agnetha had her second child about five weeks before this video was shot so she's probably still regaining her figure. The last video that ABBA filmed before she gave birth was 'The Name Of The Game'. Her baby bump was hidden by them sitting around the table playing a board game.
I'm really enjoying your reaction videos, especially the ABBA ones. My ABBA song reaction recommendation: Watch Out from their debut album Waterloo. It is quite the gem and super catchy. Trivia: If you are familiar with director Quentin Tarantino and his taste in music, Watch Out is one of his favorite ABBA songs.
Thanks for reacting to this great vid, It's worth checking out Eurasia they do a great version of this song and even copy the video clip.its. hilarious
This is geniouses at work. It sounds uptempo, but if you follow the kick and snare it's actually really slow. It sounds "disco" but isn't at all - no 1-2-3-4 beat, funny vhord movement and unusual vocal arrangement moves it away from disco. There have been very few at their level of writing mainstream music - and this is one of the simple ones. Oh, the musical "Chess" is these guys too, and it's brilliant!
As you all can see, their budget for those videos wasn’t that high. But they got a very good director who worked with the things they had around… and the music it’s the only thing that matters❣️🎤🎹🎸
Lasse halstrom later became a Hollywood Legend, famous for "what s eating gilbert grape" with Johnny Depp, John C reilly, Leonardo di Caprio and Juliette Lewis.
Hi Dereck. First of all, thanks for reacting to ABBA which is one of the most legendary Swedish groups with iconic themes, along with Roxette and Ace of Base, which I love. Second, there is an ABBA TEEN group made up of teens from the 90s, which I would also like you to react to when you can, as well as themes from the other two groups I mentioned earlier. Third, you are a very beautiful man, with an incredible smile and your reactions are very authentic, so I already subscribe to your page and activate the notification campaign and finally, fourth ... I recommend a cover of this same topic from British 90s duo ERASURE which is great and has several other ABBA covers as well. th-cam.com/video/L-d4J3YUQmU/w-d-xo.html. A hug and greeting from PARAGUAY
This video was made because they could not meet international demand and go and tour everywhere in the world so the music video was made, signed, sealed and delivered by their manager Stikkan Karlsson. Apparently the first musical video ever. I can hear Stikkan trying to make it more sexy by having a surely reluctant Agneta to mumble random stuff 😃 Stikkan Andersson is hands down the man behind ABBA's success, a very excentric and multitalented man from humble beginnings.
For a journey try money money money, great song and I'll put in a shout-out for when I kissed the teacher and Tiger too. So many great songs, you could do dedicate your whole channel just for ABBA.
One of their biggest hits, I'm surprised you've done soe many more obscure songs before this one :) You also definitely need to react to Gimme, gimme ,gimme.
• As one of the people below mentioned, you've done a great job of trying Agnetha's name. It's pronounced crisply as 'Ahn-yeht-ah' (and I'll attach a link to her own pronunciation below for you). • The Brady Bunch boxed-people with responses came first in 1969, then ABBA here in 1978, and now very common for choirs and musicians during these Covid19 days. • While 'Take A Chance On Me' only went as high as #3 in the USA charts, I discovered recently that it sold more than ABBA's only US #1: 'Dancing Queen'. Cheers from Australia, and thanks for another good review/reaction. th-cam.com/video/5HJmW8EY8m0/w-d-xo.html
That smile on your face makes you look like a little boy. And that's what ABBA can do: just make you feel happy in a very pure way. I think it's the greatest goal they achieved. Nothing really serious, but it's so much well done!
They did serious stuff in their late years. Amazingly so.
My fav ABBA video... seeing Benny running after Frida at the end makes it hillarious.
Knowing me, knowing you and The name of the game are other good videos and fabulous harmony in the voices.
I love that bit. They always seemed to be the more 'playful' couple!
Id gladly run after her.
My fave song. And Frida. 🥰🥰🥰
This was ABBA's 7th UK No.1 Single. It was also their 2nd biggest USA Hit - No.3. 'Dancing Queen' was their biggest USA Hit - No.1, in 1977...
But ironically, in pure sales, Take A Chance On Me has sold more in US than DQ
I agree with previous comment. Dereck, you give a special charm to your videos. And it's admirable when we imagine that you were born after ABBA's retirement of music 🎶. We can see that you enjoy ABBA's music; you know what a good music is.
Actual talent. Real voices.
The song's inspiration was when Björn jogging and singing "tck-a-ch" repeatedly to himself, which turned into the background and the phrase "take a chance on me" :)
This is the song that made me fall in love is ABBA and have been this then.
Abba are good for the soul. ...
Of all the ABBA songs, this one is definitely my favorite, great reaction
Wow... you're not pausing anymore!
Subscribed.
Youre one of the best out there!
Bellissimi ABBA ... favolosi immortali..!! Frida and Agnetha Meravigliose..!
Definitely one of my most favourites!
You should totally look "The Name of the Game" too! The song is very complex as structure and the video is priceless :)
Agree!
I just love that im not the only one who cares about ABBA. It was really a legendary group. For the next song i suggest angel eyes. Love ya💙
How could you be the only one, we're millions 😉
🧡 ABBA!
Pure ABBA. Another hit that set them up with fandom.
Thanks, Dereck.
I love your reactions because it is always so cool to see your smile grow as you fully appreciate how good the music is. Especially ABBA songs.
React to "If It Wasn't For The Nights" and "Me and I" these songs are just amazing, I never heard something like that
I love Me and I
Do not forget: two for the price of one, the piper, under attack, knowing me knowing you, summer night city, and some others .. 😃
Back with the abba!!! Keep on poppin!!
ABBA at their poppiest, the a capella at the beginning is iconic!
Love abba
Glad you got round to this, such a happy song ....... next up has to be " MAMMA MIA ! " please
I loved looking at your facial expressions when you looked at the girls when they got flirty with the camera lol.😊
Frida was only flirty with me.
I loved your reaction!

How not to get in a good mood when hearing ABBA?
Almost ABBA are good vibes. It doesnt Matter in what language or what year the song is. ABBA is smile.

Masters of the key change
LOVE IT 😍
One of my favorite songs by ABBA.
What about responding to ABBA interviews Derek? They are so humble for "Super stars"
It's funny. Pop music today is so bad it makes disco sound good. The craftsmanship behind this song is so much better than anything mainstream today.
After Dancing Queen (US NO 1) this was their second biggest US hit reaching No 3.
This song was their biggest moneymaker in the US…more than DQ
Always So Good To Hear ABBA! Great Pop Song!
Take a chance on me

As a Madonna's fan it's very easy for me to notice the influence of ABBA on Madonna's melodies. Love that
Madonna and Abba both for me
So can you imagine how I felt about hung up! 😅😍

Frida 😍🙌
This song is so appealing in an audio way. It has a driving bouncy quality that never ends throughout the song. Very appealing.
I think in total they had about 20 songs of this calibre. Astounding.
I always loved Bjorn’s light backing track on this. I thought he was just so cute!! They were the most fun group ever!
Would love u to react to ABBA's live version of Hole In Your Soul, its incredible.
Wembley Arena 79
Fantastic!
ABBA really knew how to make up-beat feel good music.
This has always been one of my favorite of their songs. The video is a little dated, maybe a bit cheesy in a way most of them aren't. But it's so cute & flirty & upbeat that I just love it anyways.
*Our Last Summer pleeaze*
Erasure did a cover of this song, and they did a cover of the video itself. it's great fun to watch.
I like how the interchange of minor and major chords in verses expresses this tension between fantasy and reality. I love ABBA so much
Yay! So glad you reacted to this song, was waiting for it, thank you, you’re awesome! Big fan👍🏼
‘The Name Of The Game’ my fav from ABBA
You should hear experimentation intro to this song in ABBA Undeleted audios. You cannot guess from the beginning

If this one doesn't make you wanna dance around......well you don't like to move!
Frida 😉❤
They were of my era great times.
This video is one of the funniest videos they have made 😂
love the Erasure cover too
This video reminded me Erasure. They did a very funny version of take a chance on me . React to them . Many people forgot them but they were amazing
If you listen to the fourth cd of thank you for the music box set you’ll listen to the way they improvised the music to get to the chorus. I would be interested To know how many songs started with improvisation
Oh hell yes!
Good old Abba! Love you too Stockholm!

This song was released in 1978. Agnetha had her second and last child in 1977.
"Take a chance on me"
grabada en 1977 con Agnetha embarazada
video de 1978 al mes de su segunda maternidad
Agnetha had her second child about five weeks before this video was shot so she's probably still regaining her figure. The last video that ABBA filmed before she gave birth was 'The Name Of The Game'. Her baby bump was hidden by them sitting around the table playing a board game.
You should react to the Erasure version of this... it’s mind blowing
Marvin Morawski lol turns out he did but strangely he didn’t like it!
This song is from 1977.
Please do should I laugh or cry, I am the city and cassandra by Abba
I'm really enjoying your reaction videos, especially the ABBA ones. My ABBA song reaction recommendation: Watch Out from their debut album Waterloo. It is quite the gem and super catchy. Awesome!, I would love to see you react to Donna Summer Macarthur Park live from 1978! Continue the great work!
Derek, Take a chance on me
Doesn't he already have a boyfriend though?… 😉
React to one man one woman by ABBA

@@Lisa-M So true, thank you, I wrote that when I had insomnia😃
@@theresenydahl9531 No problem :-)
I think you missed reacting to one of ABBA's songs, my favorite "Waterloo".
I want to be the filling in an Agnetha and Frida sandwich.
For a journey try money money money, great song and I'll put in a shout-out for when I kissed the teacher and Tiger too. So many great songs, you could do dedicate your whole channel just for ABBA.
Hi,please look up Lasse Hallström,the video director, very likable guy,and a very talented director
👍👍👍‼️‼️‼️
I think you would like "The Visitor" by ABBA.
One of their biggest hits, I'm surprised you've done soe many more obscure songs before this one :)
You also definitely need to react to Gimme, gimme ,gimme.
Reaction to EL BARRIO song !! RENCOR!! from Spain🇪🇸🇪🇸
React Ghosttown by Madonna pls!
Dayum...you react by analyzing the song both in terms of instruments and vocals as well as the video. Is that allowed? :P Nicely done.
The beginning is inspired the US TV series "Brady Bunch" with the split screens
There only #2 in the US. I think is time for Money, Money,Money
