New Rocket League seasons always call for new things to talk about. This season, Psyonix decided to drastically change how ranked works by resetting 3v3 and 2v2 especially a lot more harshly than normal. People's 2v2 ranks were decreased by 300 MMR, which is 2-3 full ranks. That is a lot. Today we talk about the details and the reasoning behind that decision, as well as other recent topics in the Rocket League community.

I will say, the rumors about Bakkesmod being a problem in the future aren't an issue. Rocket League partners with Bakkesmod for functionality during RLCS broadcasts, and it's more likely any dll injections will just be hard blocked during online play. So at the very worst, goodbye to custom items, mmr on scoreboard etc in online servers

EDIT: 5:31 Of course they will do it. UE5 just needs to be in a more mature state, for performance reasons (graphics, latencies, net-code).

I’m actually so glad you took the time to explain what was happening with the MMR this season. I ended last season at Champ 1 Div 3 and I am now sitting at Diamond 1 Div 4. I was losing my mind about how I could have possibly dropped so far.

same i was c2 div 1 last season and i got placed at diamond 2 div 2 but i got back up to c1 now
I feel like Rocket League Racing is just Rocket League 2 (made with Unreal Engine 5). Maybe the fact that it's been 2 years means they are almost done (please)
Its tough. Although i dont mind the idea of balancing out the ranks so that "C1" means the same thing across the board, I have been consistently getting better for the last couple years and this feels like a slap in the face. I reached Champs which felt like a decent achievement, then made it into maintaining C2. Now my duo partner and I are teetering on the edge of D3 and C1, meanwhile i feel like the best I've ever been.
This change was so annoying because I am a 2's main, teetering on the edge of champ 1 and was hopeful to make the final push this season. But because of the 2v2 mmr shift, I went from D3 Div 3 to Plat 2. And even with the added mmr I'm still only diamond 1 div 3. They made a bs decision and didn't make up for it.
Cry more.. why does it matter? Oh it sounds cooler to say "I'm champ" rather than "I'm diamond" but if you're stuck at a level that's only a few wins or losses between the two then you gotta just level up your gameplay. I'm in the same boat, d3. If I get dropped down to d1 after my placements I don't care.
5:43 not only the challenge of it but i also highly doubt the physics would be the same if they switched. all the high ranked players would have to unlearn and relearn how to read the ball and do certain mechanics
I was 1640 last season and I agree with the mmr change, BUT it feels to me that lower ranked players got affected less somehow? All of my games on day 1 of the season had low gcs/c3 from last season players on my team and on the opposition team, I feel like if everyone got reset the same amount they wouldn't be in my lobbies.
i was so confused when i got placed into plat 3, i guess everyone just got a rank change. i was playing against a last-season champ 1, too.

I stopped playing when I saw people doing double taps and flips in my rank only to go to the rocket league tracker and see they were 4 whole tiers above me last season
@@everyone1liesd459 yea, there was a c1 in my lobby doing like perfect air dribbles. i get that they wanted to make everyone equal, but it would be nice if they had kept everyone in their own rank. I also dont wanna be put back in plat (even if i kinda deserve to)
I came back this season after a long break and it's constantly GCs in full solo queue lobbies either on opponent team clipping on us or on my team flaming everyone for not being on their skill level. Welp time to queue again and get slapped up lol
I agree with you about the rank displacement. Last season, I was Diamond 1 division 1 and at the start of my placements, I was ranked Platinum 3 division 3 and after winning 8 of my placement games, I again landed on Diamond 1 division 1.
The rank change feels very necessary... I used to play a ton and got to C2, but now I'm more casual and super rusty
But since ranks never reset, I'm playing like a Plat in C1 lobbies, and i kinda feel bad for my teammates having to carry me

Idk about the harsh reset but while I barely hit C3 in 2s last season I'm already in mid C2 again, while in 3s I was able to easilt hit C2 last season and now I'm playing with former GCs in low C1... and obvioysly I'm completely out of place there.

Only thing thats annoying with the mmr change is kinda ripping us who got ranked before they dropped the decrease. Like I went c3 to loooow c1 yet cousin got ranked after change and got c2
did this happen to anyone else, In my placement matches i went up 130 ish mmr so me a c1 was playing against gc's in their placement matches and I just gotta tell you it's completely different like there's no breathing room is constant defence or offence where i ended up getting demo'd about 5 times in 30 seconds bc of slow rotation
Id guess they reverted it because the distribution is likely impacted by the sample size. GC being a different percentage of players because is in part due to the large discrepancy of playercount across the different team sizes. 2s has the biggest discrepancy because it is the most played
I also lost a lot of mmr in 2s
but the problem is that in 1s when i grind and reach the same rank as the others, then when i go back to 2s i become really good at the game its weird
I was Grand Champ last season, I even got the GC title, now I’m Champ2 div 2, I worked so hard to hit GC now I have to do it all again.
Huh. I'm finding this video a little late but I did my 2s placements for the new season the day it dropped and actually placed higher than I had ended (C1 Div 2 last season to C1 Div 3 this season) and don't have a Twitter so I had no idea any of this was going on. I do agree that a rank such as GC should have the same meaning across playlists though, so I wish they had kept the change as it was.
I Fell from C1 to plat 3 in 2s and in rumble I fell while playing from c1 to d2 bc I lost so much. And now I’m no where near to champ
My highest rank is now d1 in rumble and d1 in 3s -_-

I won't lie dropping to diamond has felt like the biggest FU these teammates have literally 0% game since just boom ball no possession
I don't feel like the MMR adjustment would change anything. Like the reason 2v2 was so infalted is because most people play 2v2 most of the time. I was c1 in 2s and in ones and 3s I'm around plat because I just haven't played those playlists in a while.
As someone in the average ranks, my concern isn't the arbitrary logo next to my playlist. It's whether or not my game will be fair. They have yet to address this in any serious way. When I watch my dad play in silver, he's frustrated he can't "fly like the others". He doesn't get that he's playing against smurfs, he thinks he's supposed to perform at that level.
Having somebody leagues above my rank in every 2-3 games is really discouraging, because it feels like I don't deserve the rank I have. And if I don't deserve the rank I have, and lose well over 50% of my games, why does my rank increase each season? At this point, I just play to complete the pass, because I like making new cars.
The problem with the rank drift is people have associations with their rank, and dropping it out of nowhete by 300 just hurts player satisfaction. Good and necessary idea, awful for the players, especially c3s trying to push gc
When Wayton said that everyone's 1v1 rank is lower "in the dumps" than ur 2s or 3s rank. I am Plat 3 in 1s, Plat 1 in 2s and Silver in 3s😂
I used to be around c1 div3 the past seasons, now I'm around d3 div3 and I can't get higher. It feels like d3 is the old c1.
I’ll tell yeah. Day one was hard. You could tell especially down plat 2-3 the players there were way lower then they should be. I loved and hated it at the same time.
Funny thing is with the generic anti cheat that all these games implement, you can just spam cancel on the download and it’ll eventually just let you play. My old roommate is an IT guy and showed me how easy it is for people to continue cheating in games like pubg. Cause there’s no way to catch them other than player reports.
The way dropshot and snowday got effected are pretty huge. Probably because the top 50% in those modes was like gold 1.
I was gold 3 in snowday, and got boosted to plat 2.
I was low gold 1 in dropshot, and got boosted to high plat 1.(now plat 2)

Personally I found the rank reset quite annoying. I was high plat going in and out of diamond and at the end of my placements were gold. Maybe at the higher ranks it doesn’t feel so bad but it felt really harsh.
me and my friend have been champ 3 for 3 seasons, went 7-3 on our placements and got diamond 2
That MMR adjustment makes more sense -- 300 mmr decrease means there's SSL players in GC, GC players in Champ, and Champs in Diamond, and this game already has better diamond/champ players than the diamonds and champs from a year or so ago. Doesn't really matter that much, though. After a week or so everyone will have settled into their real rankings.
I'm 100% confident RL is already ported to UE5, they are probably just taking their time to make the physics identical and fixing all the bugs as its a completely new engine. Im sure it will probably release sometime in 2024
I had no Rank change at all I was Diamond 1 last season and stayed at D1 at the start off this season
the problem is more than just rank inflation. the problem is boost and smurf account artificially inflating the ranks.
Now there wants to be a problem with the ranks when I actually want to try and rank up

I had no problem with the change in mmr. I mostly play 1's anyways and I don't care that much about my rank. I think people should play most importantly to improve and have fun. But I know why they reverted it, it's because there was a huge backlash with everyone complaining so hard about dropping in rank. If everyone wasn't such a baby and didn't cry so hard about it, it probably wouldn't have been reverted.
When MarioKart 8 Deluxe first came out, online matches had a lot of 200cc mixed in. But lots of people, myself included, found 200cc to be really hard or difficult to play on. There was a lot of backlash with how common 200cc showed up and they cut it back significantly within days of it's release. But I quickly got accustomed to 200cc and actually preferred it over 150cc. But it was too late 200cc had basically been cut from online matches and you had to join a specific tournament that was exclusively 200cc in order to get any 200cc races online. I think most people would have been fine with 200cc they just needed a short period to get accustomed to 200cc. Its the same thing with Pysonix they should have given the player base more time to get accustomed to the changes. The backlash would have died down with time and everything would have been fine. I just hope they realize this and don't let early backlash affect changes in the future.

they could just allow bakkesmod for the anti cheat, i figure they are pretty well developed in making that happen, because through bakkesmod i dont think its possible to hack ingame with bakkesmod, but just give placebo effects

I love Rocket league. The 2 main issues with it is. They do need to airroll it over to unreal engine 5. The biggest issue they need to fix is the connection. It's trash. You never know what kind of connection you are going to get game to game. It's very frustrating expesialy if you are playing ranked. Connection is the biggest problem.
They should have just adjusted 1s rank mmr and kept 2s and 3s the same... backwards if u ask me
I feel like the idea of changing the MMRs to mean the same across the scoreboard is great. However, doing it in 1 season gets many players upset. Personally I've grinded 2s hard to get a GC title for the first time last season, only to be placed in low C2. It feels like my S10 GC rewards don't mean as much as the rewards yet to come which now feel way out of reach. I think it would have been best to get rid of the difference over more time; I hope with the reduction to -150 that next season will be similar/less harsh so that season 12 or 13 can start with an even scoreboard.
The problem with making the ranks mean the same across all ranks, is that it's subjective. You can't just say the top x amount of players is gc means they are all the same either. Since the different modes require different skills you can't compare them against each other easily, it's unrealistic to expect the average gc to be gc in all modes. Or else they would have the skill to be above just gc 1 for example.

If GC 1 is 0.05% in 1s, they should bring up 1s ranks, not bring down other playlists to try to meet it, that was the whole point in adding GC2, 3 and SSL. If I could get a higher rank in 1s without dedicating my life to it, I might actually play it.
1s is a chaotic playlist anyway, anything below C2 is just roulette. Is it a smurf? Is it a GC2 that never plays 1s? Is it a 1s main that hasn't been playing long? I go from scoring 7-0 one match and the very next match get clapped and then the 3rd match goes into OT.

I honestly think losing 300 mmr is way too harsh. Let’s say you were diamond 1 in 2s and had 830 mmr. Once the rank reset hits you would go down to 530 mmr which is gold 2. Now granted 2 seasons ago I was diamond 1 in 2s and gold 3 in 1s, but I still think it’s too harsh. The most reasonable reset would be somewhere around 150-200 mmr, since losing 200 mmr from 830 would put you in gold 3, and losing 150 would put you in plat 1, therefore making the ranks between different modes more equal.
So this is why I have gone from C1D1 to D2D2.
Rank Drift…. I do not agree so far… getting absolutely handled in games the last few days is frustrating.

Anti-cheat doesn't necessarily mean BM would go away. Psyonix could work with BM devs to integrate it / check for it properly, though I doubt. But they could only run anti-cheat checks during public games, which BM isn't supposed to be present on anyway.

I think that bringing the ranks down is good because it removes ALOT if not all of the smurfed people in my rank. ( i'm c1 - c2 )
How about getting a one week ban in casual. Only played 6 or 7 total matches on the new season and all on casual. This is not normal. Psyonix are the worst developers with this banning thing. Ban one week in causal WTF man .
i dont know why trn tells me i have won 4800 games around there i okay ranks but not crazy mainly ones cant get out of d1 and d2 gane keeps pairing me with gcs and smurfs even players that have played me laugh and say its unfair too

As a newcomer to rocket league this whole ranking down thing is not cool lol I've been playing for half a year maybe and now I'm playing nothing but diamonds and champions in platinum tournaments, even in casual matches lol I don't stand a chance now.....The fact I'm now playing people in platinum who were winning champion tournaments before I even started playing is absolutly ridiculous!!! 🤦♂️😂

Ranks: The Reason people are lower ranked in 1s is because They SKIP 1v1 practice so they are ass at 1s (like me) so they deserver to be lower rank in 1s. simple

Interesting, I was Plat 3 in 3s last season then this season I am Plat 1 in 3s. (Granted I did lose some of my placement games but clearly this rank reset also played a factor into this)

Ive been in diamond 3 and c1 in 1v1 for almost 3 years but im playing better and better players now in the same rank than i did 3 years ago.
Like im in gc in 2v2 now but then i play gc players in 1v1, but were both in diamond, like c'mon, neither of us should be in that rank 😂.
Everyone is stuck in a low rank playing good players in 1v1 when the 'real' diamond players get destroyed by us people who are gc in other playlists
