    I'm making a video on how to get around paying full price on this. Stay tuned!
    Need to get from JFK Airport to New York City? Or JFK to Manhattan? This t is about 16 miles from John F. Kennedy (JFK) International Airport. In New York, that’s a long ways to travel. But there are options: public transportation (i.e. the AirTrain, bus, subway, LIRR), New York yellow taxi cab, and ride shares like Lyft and Uber. And in this video, we are going to break all these down in detail so you know how to get around the airport, pay for transportation, and not get lost when traveling from JFK Airport to Manhattan.

    i did it in every way, the cheapest andthe uber and taxi... if is your first time.....take a taxi, because is likely you phone has no service and you cant ask for an uber, and if you are carrying to much luggage, believe me.... you dont want that on subway stairs

    You did a much better job at explaining all of this than other videos I've watched. I found myself having more questions than I started with after I viewed a few of them. This was very thorough. Great job! You should be a teacher... You do a great job at explaining things to people who truly don't know anything and making it seem approachable and easy.

    If the weather is decent (you decide what that is for you), jfk-[airtrain]->lefferts blvd->walk to aqueduct north-> A train towards manhattan is a great hack. Saves entire airtran fare entirely- so only $2.75 to/from manhattan. If I'm in a hurry, and headed into/out of manhattan, it's worth paying extra for LIRR+airtrain even if nearly $20 one way during peak times as a one-off ticket.

    I’m a New Yorker, so I’m going to say this. For the bus route: the Jamaica station actually connects to a lot of buses. For example, Q65, Q25, and many others and that from there you could connect to the 7 train that leds to Time Square which connects to a lot of the other subway lines. For example, N, Q, R, 1, 2, 3, A, C, and the E train.

    • @UrbanCaffeine

      Hi there. From JFK to Manhattan (or vice versa), taxis are generally cheaper because they have a flat rate. If a driver turns on the meter, mention the flat rate because they shouldn't be running a meter.

      Thanks! People bring luggage on the subway all the time. However, sometimes you have to carry your luggage up and down stairs. If you are ok with that, then go for it. I usually travel with one roller and one backpack and I do ok. Awkward on stairs, but doable. Good luck!

    Hi thanks so much for all these detailed and very clear information, really love your videos. We are arriving in NY Jfk airport on Saturday 3rd June at 1.00 o’clock pm. what is the fastest option to get into Midtown (riu manhattan time square hotel)? We only stay 4 days and we do not want to get stuck for Hours in the traffic. we have two suitcases.
    And we are leaving on thursday 8th June from Newark our flight is around 1100 am, we would have the same question.

    Retro Airport!! For finishing such a great video! I wouldn’t find a better instructor to make my trip easier! Thanks for your excellence at explaining! keep it up Thea you’re doing great 👏
    I will be staying in (Inwood) at the very top of Manhattan. Can I get your advice on which option should I take:
    1. Airtrain - howard beach station - Line A
    2. Airtrain - Jamaica station - Line E - Then either A or 1

      Thanks! I feel that the E and transferring to the A would be faster if you don't mind transferring.

    So looking forward to unlimited coming to OMNY!
    Hopefully all NYC modes of transit will be on one payment system someday. LIRR, Metro North, etc.

    Would you be able tell us about wheelchair accessibility with the train/subway?

    You mentioned not using the subway after 10pm. What about LIRR? Specifically, board Airtrain to Jamaica about 10:30pm then Jamaica to Penn Station on LIRR. Thanks.

    Can't believe you recommend flying into LaGuardia for domestic flights. There is no easy public transit into Manhattan and cabs are metered. JFK or Newark are better options. As for JFK, if I were a tourist, I'd opt for the Airtran/LIRR ride. t will take you into midtown where you can catch a cab. Also, taking a cab or ride share can get you stuck in traffic depending upon the time of day. There used to be an airport bus from midtown to the airports. Is it not still an option? It amazes me that there is such a ridiculous plethora of transit options to get from the major airports in NYC into Manhattan. I don't think there are any other major cities worldwide that have this problem. What a way to go America!

    Hi, this is so useful, first time solo traveler to New York in a couple of days. Thanks you so much for this. Some traveling tips that I’ve read says using subway is tough if you have luggage? Any additional tips?

    • @UrbanCaffeine
      @UrbanCaffeine  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The luggage is tough because you have to carry them over stairs and it gets tricky if trains are full. But if it's not rush hour and you can lift your luggage on stairs, it's ok. People do it all the time. As for other tips, locals are usually helpful so don't be afraid to ask for directions if you get lost. Have a great trip!

      @@UrbanCaffeine, the NYCTA needs to install elevators in _all_ subway stations in New York (both surface to mezzanine level and then mezzanine to platform level); the population of North America is rapidly aging, and mobility is an issue that will affect all (plus having elevators will allow people who are carrying items home like groceries and those who are carrying luggage more easy access to the subway.)

    the best guide on TH-cam, thank you! You replied a comment below that subway is safe, even when you have luggage, am I correct?

    • @UrbanCaffeine
      @UrbanCaffeine  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I would avoid the subway late at night. But in general, it's fine from the airport to Manhattan.

    Best video I have seen about this topic!!! Do I need the metrocard to take the Q10 bus??? if yes, where I can get the metrocard by arriving from an international flight?

    • @UrbanCaffeine
      @UrbanCaffeine  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The Q10 should accept both MetroCard and OMNY. But I haven't personally checked. There should be MetroCard machines at the airport or a way to pay. Lots of people take the bus. For the OMNY reader, I just published a video on that: th-cam.com/video/g2_aEHQlPSQ/w-d-xo.html

    Hi, I saw a comment on a different video that said the LIRR is $5 off-peak. IS that correct? That sounds like a good deal. Would my metro card do this for me or would I need a separate ticket? Thamks

    Thank you so much!!! Its like you read my mind LOL. Im flying to JFK this july (first timer) and still find the easiest way to penn station. Your information is so useful. Anyway for LIRR ticket, if im not mistake the price is 7.75 for non peak hour right?

    • @UrbanCaffeine
      @UrbanCaffeine  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi! Yes, off-peak is $7.75. On the weekends you can get a city ticket which is only $5 and can be used from Jamaica to Penn. You can check to see if you will be traveling during off-peak or peak times on this website (if you haven't found this already): new.mta.info/fares-and-tolls/fare-information
