@@brianglas7768 People think that its still the 80s. NYC, despite having the largest population of any city in American with high population density and massive ethnic, religious, and linguistic barriers within that population, is ranked #95/100 in rate of crime per 100,000 residents according to the FBI. The top 5 are Albuquerque, Memphis, St Louis, Spokane, and Oakland. You're more 3x likely to get mugged in Anchorage, Alaska than in NYC.
Lovely cross section of my home borough! If you ever decide to this again for some reason, you can actually get a lot closer to JFK airport on foot! You can technically enter the airport itself at the Lefferts Boulevard entrance, but you still need to take the Airtrain from there to get to your terminal, but since you're already in the airport, it's free to ride at that point and you don't need a metrocard.
This is one thing I think is special about the Seattle-Tacoma airport. You walk out the door and you're in a walkable airport neighborhood instead of a mile from any other civilization. If you have a long layover you can walk out of the airport and do things.
You can do this at Boston's airport too. I live near the airport. Recently, after arriving, I walked out of the airport to a Somali restaurant a 15-minute walk away before calling Lyft for my ride home. (Though I could have walked another 20 minutes or so to a subway station.)
this has happened to me, where i arrived in athens greece by plane, and my house is actually at a village about 4km from the airport, yet there was no way to leave the airport unless you were driving, on a bus or on a train. and i had no money and had no way to leave because it's impossible to walk to and from most airports. this is a big issue in my opinion
That’s why I love LGA they have a free bus that takes you to the subway unlike the other two NYC airports where you have to pay almost 10 dollars on top of transit to leave or enter the airport by air train.
A great airport to get to by walking is DCA. There are well marked signs out of the airport on the sidewalks leading to Crystal City in Arlington, VA. Also, a Capital Bikeshare station is there at the airport practically giving an option to bicycle from Washington DC.
By 2026 it’ll be even more efficient and integrated for pedestrians when the “CC2DCA”project concludes thanks to funding by the Northern VA Transportation Authority
About ten years ago I walked from the Dupont Circle area to DCA after having visited my son. I made sure everything I needed for the weekend fit into a smallish school backpack, so it was easy walking and took about 90 minutes (not counting all the time I spent at the park next door photographing airliner landings). The only tricky spot was coming off of the Arlington bridge, when I had to cross the road underneath to get to the walking trail and there wasn't much visibility for seeing cars coming from the right. Could have avoided that hiccup if I had used the 14th St Bridge instead, in retrospect.
I love that you did that. Walking is one of the best ways to experience an area. On business trips to Denver back in the day, I would walk 3 1/2 miles each way to attend church. Good exercise, and I got to experience the area and really soak in the vibe.
walking is a good way to experience an area... in a neighborhood. most of this walk is essentially walking along highways lol. this is an awful way to see queens and absolutely do not recommend for anyone visiting.
Excellent video. You passed thru my old neighborhood, Kew Gardens. I worked at JFK years ago and a few of us, who were stuck there during a snowstorm, walked from JFK to Kew Gardens, finally getting home. Cheers! Peter.
I once walked from LGA into Astoria when I lived there, just because. I took the free shuttle to a parking lot near the edge. Then when I walked away people looked real confused and tried to help me before I wandered off into the adjacent overpasses and industrial parks. Had to reassure them “No I’m doing this intentionally”
Wow.... this is such a good video... it just showed up on my recommendations and I started watching it and honestly thought it had like millions of views. I can't believe it doesn't. The idea is great, the content is great, and the editing is amazing. New subscriber here :)
So for the future, the actual pedestrian entrance to JFK (and the only way to enter JFK without a car or without paying the airtrain fare) is via the Lefferts Blvd Airtrain station. This stop is pedestrian accessible (albeit not a very pleasant walk) and is free to use, unlike the Howard Beach and Jamaica airtrain stops which cost money.
It's a fun, long walk, but worth the trouble if you have the route planned the time, and an emergency plan ( know the bus routes in case you run out of time, are too tired, or the weather turns bad). I lived in Queens for 25 years so I recognize the old places I saw on your video. I think one day I will do the same walk myself, just as a personal challenge. Thank you for posting this.

I do a lot of urban hiking in NYC like this (maybe I should film it?) and it's nice to avoid the major roads when possible to experience more of the flavor of each neighborhood and run into novel sites.
One of the first things that you notice about NYC is that when you get out into the residential neighborhoods of Queens the city really isn't that dense. Also it seems like the suburban areas of NYC are far less dense than the suburban areas of big west coast cities.
on my NY trip my flight home was at 9.30pm so I walked from Manhattan to the Mets Baseball stadium then Flushing Meadows tennis centre then LaGuardia airport then the Metro station for JFK. loved the journey but how they don’t have a metro for LaGuardia is crazy. I've travelled the streets you traversed. Congratulations Ewannawe. That was the ideal way to do it, walk and Air Train. I believe you can walk to JFK via Lefferts Blvd, but, that would have added many miles. Plus, you got to see, smell and experience the international borough of Queens. The underrated gem of NYC.
The only time I walked in and out of an airport was Providence Rhode Island. I had a long layover because I had booked separate tickets on two airlines. I walked to a nearby restaurant for lunch and back. only 1/2 mile of walking as opposed to 7
I really enjoyed seeing you do this walk. Especially liked seeing Queens Blvd and Rego Park. You were a block away from where I live. Glad you got to explore a bit of Queens, one of the most ethnically and culturally diverse places in the world.

I was wondering how you’d be able to do the walk from LGA to JFK in such a short amount of time. Turns out you only walked to the airtrain station in Jamaica. Nevertheless, superb effort. The walk is interesting, passing all the ethnic, vibrant hoods of queens. As you head closer to Jamaica and closer to JFK the area def gets sketchier esp when sun sets.
Although I wouldn't recommend it after dark but you can walk from Queens Blvd. to JFK and get in on foot. You can follow the bus route through the airport by walking along the grass medians. Funny that youtube recommended this to me! I had this exact conundrum back in January; I didn’t check my booking thru JFK thoroughly, and had to lug two carryons across Queens. It was not fun.
As an outsider, it is quite interesting. When you look at the map, you would’ve thought one would be Queens one would be Brooklyn however the anomaly of the borough of Queens positioning North round to the south east, which makes both airports in the borough of Queens?
@@BigAl72ZGE The Dutch history is so important with the five boroughs it could be the Royal connect with nausea . It could be with the numerous Dutch districts of the five boroughs crudely. Throwing this thought out at 1:03, before watching the rest of the video: LaGuardia is actually quite pedestrian-friendly as airports go, or at least it was the last time I checked (granted that was 10 years ago or more, way before the new terminal was built). It was surprisingly plausible to walk to the terminals from the surrounding streets either to the south in Jackson Heights or even from Flushing Meadows to the east. I've never approached Kennedy on foot but given the expressway loop under the airfield being the main access for cars I'm guessing it's less so, unless you resort to getting on the AirTrain at one of the outlying stops. Ok...now I'll see what you actually did.
Once, when flying into Santa Barbara, California, I was able, though a combination of light packing and very careful planning, to take a kick scooter on the plane with me and scoot my way to the hotel, right out of the airport. I was even able to take everything carry-on (the scooter was human-powered, so no lithium ion batteries) and didn't have to wait for a checked bag. The airport is sited right next to a bike trail, which makes getting out of there on a bike very easy. Another time, I flew to San Jose, California, and was able to walk out of the airport to a nearby office building stocked with Bird scooters. I hopped aboard and rode one of them 10 miles down a trail to my destination. The return trip was really a steal, riding a Spin non-electric bike for only $1. Nobody objected when I left the bike right at the airport entrance and walked on in.
I’m not sure I can enter or leave my nearest airport, PBI, on foot. Probably with a bit of effort? Last I was at MSP it seemed easy from the secondary terminal. Smaller airports like BMI or DAB look obvious from the parking lot: you end up in the middle of nowhere but you’re walking along a fairly prominent road that leads you to the city proper. Of course the next airport with scheduled flights is 50 miles or more away… Last I was at HPN I left on foot to kill time before a flight but I hopped a bus once outside to get somewhere interesting and then took a bus back. That was maybe 15 years ago though.
Great effort! Really awesome to get so far walking in the US! Having to find a way (any way) to get from A to B on foot there though, always astonishing...
I love that walked all of Junction Blvd. my hood. Next time you’re here. You need to hit up a few spots if you do this walk again. You will have a even better queens experience
Born and raised in Queens this was quite interesting to see also just to let you know if you wanted to burn some more time you could taken the bus from Jamaica station
This was a dope video. I just graduated from college, I plan on doing some solo traveling in the coming year. I like to walk to places, it’s good to know this is possible. Great video, hope to see more content like this!
Thanks for the video. I love walking and sightseeing and setting challenging offbeat goals that most would consider strange. You not only learn more about neighborhoods you might have bypassed, you get a greater sense of independence and self-fulfillment.
Great effort! You could have walked to the Lefferts avenue Airtrain station and boarded for free and this would have had you walk through more residential areas of queens including Forest Park. Even closer in you could walk to the rental car center and board airtrain there.
The taking the subway downtown made sense the going to a basketball game you don’t have time for at all was a stupid idea lol but there is a giftshop in time square that uses bounce to store your bag and it was really easy I recommend it if you ever need a spot in Manhattan but be careful if the subway is delayed it could get stressful. Last time I got reckless with an upcoming flight the E was delayed and then security was an hour long so I was stressed
Hahaha This is amazing! Walking out of an airport is a really fun way to kill time! I once walked out of Los Angeles Burbank airport to my hotel a few miles away, and on a separate occasion out of the same airport to the nearby strip mall for a dinner before flying out!
had to check to see if it would be possible to walk to/from my hometown airport of tpa after watching this. looks like there's a sidewalk pretty much the entire length of the airport service road (save for like 20 ft right at the start??) which would take you from the closest road to economy parking, from which you can get a free shuttle into the terminal. unfortunately, the sidewalk has no shade til you hit the parking structure and this is tampa so 10 months of the year you'll likely melt into the sidewalk before you actually reach your destination
Happy to see this video, thought about this so many times. LaGuardia always seemed doable on foot when approaching via bus but JFK, like most airports, is a pedestrian nightmare.
Worked temp at LGA last summer, stayed at a hotel just across Grand Central Parkway... walked a ton of the routes you showed on this video, and all over Queens. Never did get as far south as you though in your trip to JFK. Cool video!
You can actually walk to the Lefferts Blvd AirTrain station from LaGuardia completely on foot, which is way closer in proximity to JFK than Jamaica station. Bravo nonetheless.
Well, that’s one way to see Queens haha. I live between the two airports and it would’ve never occurred to do this. I would’ve quit once I got to Queens Blvd 😅. In all seriousness, very cool video documenting a very cool experience
That roadway shown in the first 2 minutes is Grand Central Parkway which is VERY busy 3 lanes each direction and takes you to the LIE, Northern State Pkwy and Cross Island Pkwy (to JFK: name changes to Belt Parkway) one way, and Triborough and Throgs Neck Bridge (to Bronx, Westchester . . Connecticut, Boston . . ) the other. At 5;00, I assure you that you do not have to go to Manhattan to go from LaGuardia to Nets game. . . that would be like going into (thru) Nevada to get from LA (Calif.) to San Francisco Calif. Grew up in Queens (took my driver's test out of Jamaica (Queens) along service road of Van Wyck Expressway.
DCA and BTV both have bike trails right to the airports. Some like you said are a lot easier than others to arrive on foot, some are almost impossible to not be run over
I used to live 1/2 mile from the airport in Albuquerque, and walked there almost every time I would fly. Got stopped by airport security a couple times just because no one ever does that.
This was a fun watch. I was actually wondering if you had everything in your backpack or if you FedExd the rest of your things.😆 But "where are you going" should've been my first thought.😂
Walking out of LGA is a little confusing because there is only one bridge that is walkable out. Just watch where the employees are walking. And getting into is a little tricky. There are sidewalks on the Van Wyck expressway, but at night it might be sketchy.
I had to leave ORD on foor last year and thought it was impossible when the sidewalk ended on the one road out, but then I realized that I could just take the peoplemover to the rental car center which was off-site, and walk from there 🤣
Easier way 1>take a cab from lga to the Woodside station of the long island rail road ( about 4 miles ) 2>take the LIRR east to Jamaica ( usually 1 stop ) 3>get off at jamaica and take the Airtrain to JFK
This is brilliant! Never would have thought to because airports are notoriously difficult to get in & out of for free hahaha! I tried to walk out of Gatwick Airport in the UK once. Or at least get somewhere where I could be picked up by my family. Couldn't do it - had to use the designated pickup/drop off. The only airports ive ever been to where you can just walk to the terminal is London-City and Teesside International in the UK
There was a New York Times story a few years ago about a British guy who flew in to JFK from London and then walked from there all the way to his hotel in midtown Manhattan. Took him all day long to get there, very interesting all the neighborhoods he walked through.

I hopped aboard and rode one of them 10 miles down a trail to my destination. The return trip was really a steal, riding a Spin non-electric bike for only $1. Nobody objected when I left the bike right at the airport entrance and walked on in.
What a awesome energy of youth
Awesome adventure. I hate cars and avoid them as much as possible. You nailed it.
Of course the next airport with scheduled flights is 50 miles or more away…
Last I was at HPN I left on foot to kill time before a flight but I hopped a bus once outside to get somewhere interesting and then took a bus back. That was maybe 15 years ago though.
How does AirTrain not have OMNY?!
Wonderful idea for a video!! Good on you for being brave and executing such an idea. Good luck with your channel ❤️
Great effort! Really awesome to get so far walking in the US! Having to find a way (any way) to get from A to B on foot there though, always astonishing...
You walked through some rough neighborhood in Queens near Jamaica station. I used to work there, and also walked there.
Even closer in you could walk to the rental car center and board airtrain there.
this is the best video I’ve seen in a while.
Definitely ain't wanna keep walking past Archer ave. That's South Jamaica Queens might see 50 cent out there 😂
its lovely to walk in NYC, I sometimes walk from my house in Jackson Heights Queens to my work in Kips Bay Manhattan! 6.5 miles!
Wow that’s great love seeing my old neighborhood in the video Rego park and Forest hills.
Cool video!
I tried leaving EWR on foot and it wasn't happening. Vehicles shouldn't be required for people to get around
You do realize that Newark airport was built on the outskirts of town?
You can actually walk to the Lefferts Blvd AirTrain station from LaGuardia completely on foot, which is way closer in proximity to JFK than Jamaica station. Bravo nonetheless.
Fascinating video! Thank you.
Well, that’s one way to see Queens haha. I live between the two airports and it would’ve never occurred to do this. I would’ve quit once I got to Queens Blvd 😅. In all seriousness, very cool video documenting a very cool experience
That was such a cool thing to do. Love it.
There was a Seinfeld episode that involved going between the 2 airports.
6:46 there’s a bus that you to terminal 5. It was only like 1 block away from where you were
DCA and BTV both have bike trails right to the airports. Some like you said are a lot easier than others to arrive on foot, some are almost impossible to not be run over
they changed laguardia a lot and it looks new.
Wow!! Congrats!! I didn’t even know this was possible!!
Why didn't you take the shuttle?
i hope you grabbed a preroll or two along the way
I used to live 1/2 mile from the airport in Albuquerque, and walked there almost every time I would fly.
I had to leave ORD on foor last year and thought it was impossible when the sidewalk ended on the one road out, but then I realized that I could just take the peoplemover to the rental car center which was off-site, and walk from there 🤣
My guess is that it would be very easy to walk to Midway in Chicago as it is in the middle of a residential neighborhood
Easier way
1>take a cab from lga to the Woodside station of the long island rail road ( about 4 miles )
2>take the LIRR east to Jamaica ( usually 1 stop )
3>get off at jamaica and take the Airtrain to JFK
No need to cab. The Q70 bus is free.
The only airports ive ever been to where you can just walk to the terminal is London-City and Teesside International in the UK
if your leaving the terminal eat away from the expensive airport. queens has great resturants cheap to expensive and from all kinds of cultures.
you are in my neighborhood. 63rd drive queens blvd.
Looks like you've got yourself a new subscriber.
You can walk to jfk long term parking and enter the airtrain for free to the terminals
There was a New York Times story a few years ago about a British guy who flew in to JFK from London and then walked from there all the way to his hotel in midtown Manhattan. Took him all day long to get there, very interesting all the neighborhoods he walked through.
really cool idea, well done
Hey you came through my old neighborhood! Rego park! :D
Love this! I'm just back from New York. TH-camr from Scotland!
Just checked out your channel. Really cool content! Not enough SPFL channels out there. Love the Buddies ⚫️⚪️
I work at LGA and still can’t believe someone would actually walk to JFK 🤣
This is fun 😊
Very entertaining
