    As a New Yorker, it's mind blogging that as massively extensive our subway system in NYC which is the largest in the world it has no direct connect with two major airports in NYC. It's crazy!

      It is insane that there are no rails that connect to the subway. There have been proposal after proposal on how to improve the situation, but it takes forever for anything to get approved.

    I just got back home from a NY trip a week ago and my flight landed on LGA. The Q70 is free for now, so you don't have to use OMNY or metrocard... It will go straight to a subway station (I can't recall which was) but from there I just took one train up to midtown. it took me around 40 minutes to arrive at my hotel in times square.

    Last visit to NYC grabbed an Uber from LGA to Manhattan and took 70 minutes and cost $89. Our return to LGA was via Subway to Jackson Hts - Roosevelt Av Station, then we grabbed the Q70 bus which is free and saved a lot of money, this took us about 40 minutes. Much better than a cab or uber.

    I keep looking at these videos thinking I will suddenly discover a better way to get to and from the airports.
    The sad truth is that my anxiety just won't accept carrying my luggage onto public transportation.
    In the end, it's worth it to me to pay for the cab/rideshare.
    That said, thanks for all of your videos, they're great! 🙂

    • @UrbanCaffeine
      @UrbanCaffeine  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It's awkward if you are not used to it so I don't blame you. Personally, I probably take a cab/rideshare 70% of the time when traveling to and from the airport, especially coming from a flight and it's pretty late. I'm just too tired.

    I absolutely love flying from LGA. I really don't understand all the hate. It is a fine airport just like any other. I live in the East Village and I just spend 2.75 and 50-60 minutes to get there: Take the 4 subway from Union Square to Grand Central, transfer to the 7 and go to Jackson Heights Roosevelt, and then take the Q70 to the airport. On the way back it is just M60 to 125th St and Lexington and then the 4 subway to Union Square. It is really easy and cheap. I LOATHE going to other cities where you have to take a taxi or an Uber or have someone pick you up to get anywhere. I didn't know about the trick to take the N/W. If I were going to Midtown that is definitely what I would do. Great video as always!

    • @UrbanCaffeine
      @UrbanCaffeine  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for this! I should have mentioned that if someone misses the Astoria stop on the M60, they could just get off at 125th instead. There are a lot of talk right now on how to expand public transit at LGA. The latest is by ferry that will dock at Pier 11. I was excited for an AirTrain, but there's so much debate around it.

    I love this video. One thing to note about LGA is that the yellow taxi stand isn't visible once you exit the airport. You follow the signs to where it says the taxis are and the only cars you can see are the private taxis. To get to the yellow cabs you have to follow the "Taxi" signs outside and *then* cross the street past a barrier (there's another Taxi sign on the other side of the road that's not very obvious) to get to where the real taxi stand is. If you can't find it (like I couldn't) just ask an airport employee.

      @@UrbanCaffeine you made a great video, I wouldn't have added anything to it. The LGA/LIRR Is not a choice many people would make, and the only reason I did it was the fact that there were zero youtube videos about that option, and I like filling in obscure options and information on my channel. So we did it, documented what it was like, and put it out there. It was an interesting choice Fast because it's non stop, a little more expensive than the subway, but limiting because of the whole Penn Station thing.

    I found your channel just a week ago and I like it a lot.
    When moving in a city other than cost and speed, comfort is a third factor that people take into consideration. I'm surprised that most of the web guides and video I found on TH-cam advice to take the bus and then the subway from Jackson Heights(not a nice station imho). When instead with one more stop of bus you can get woodside and take the a train to Penn station. The train passes every 15min and takes about 10mins with no stops. I'm not from NYC, just happened to visit in November, when even the info points in LGA advice to go to Jackson Heights 😑. Is there any particular reason not to prefer the train from Woodside?

    If I land in LGA on a domestic flight and I need to go to JFK for my international flight, do you have a video covering transfers between the various airports? Or just use public transport?
    I saw ads for “black car limo” services that provides transfers between airports and it feels no different than a Lyft/Uber/taxi since they all have to travel on the road.

    • @UrbanCaffeine
      @UrbanCaffeine  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      There used to be a shuttle bus but it looks like they are no longer running. I think most people just take a taxi or Lyft/Uber, partly because it's faster than public transit and they are easy to find at the airport. Any other private car service will be about the same, unless they car pool then it can be cheaper.

    I don't know why I'm so nervous to take a bus from LGA to the subway. I'm not scared of anything I'm just so scared of getting lost. Like the fear of getting off the plane and being in another country like oh my God I don't know what anything is. I'm sure there's tons of signs everywhere plus a bunch of people who will look like they know what they're doing that you don't necessarily just want to follow but might help you feel like you're going in the right direction lol. I've only ever taken a taxi from JFK to Manhattan and now I'm going to be flying into LaGuardia and I want to try to take the cheaper options to mid town. It seems like it's going to be so straightforward and easy but I still have those nerves that I need to shake in the next couple of weeks. Coming from a big metro area where there aren't even sidewalks to really walk on and you have to drive everywhere kind of stinks in this instance

    Thanks for all the videos Urban Caffeine! When flying in to LGA next month our group will consist of two adults, two grandparents, and one 12-year old, so five people total. We will all have luggage with us. What would you suggest for getting to a hotel near Grand Central? I was thinking of a pre-booking a mini-van from a private car service like Carmel, but would love to know what your suggestions would be. I know with certainty that the grandparents won't want to do the bus/subway option. Our flight lands at 6:40pm on a Thursday, if that makes a difference.

    • @UrbanCaffeine
      @UrbanCaffeine  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Personally, I would just take an Uber XL. It fits 5 people and they are usually a van anyways. I would pick Uber for simplicity. No need to pre-book. I'm not sure how much Carmel would charge, but I wouldn't expect Uber XL to be more than $100 (around $60 during nonpeak hours). Another option in case Uber is surging during that time is to take two yellow cabs. They don't surge and I estimate your two cabs won't be more than $100 total (maybe $40-50 per cab).

    How much is it from LaGuardia to JFK? and what is it better airport yellow taxi or uber/lyft?

    • @UrbanCaffeine
      @UrbanCaffeine  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I would estimate around $40 (more or less). It really depends on demand and traffic. I think taxi and Uber/Lyft are about the same. You can pay with cash with a taxi. With Uber/Lyft, the price is locked in.

    Since the Q70 is free, is the transfer also still free? Especially if you use OMNY?

    • @UrbanCaffeine
      @UrbanCaffeine  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello. You still have to pay for the subway once you get to the subway station. It's just the Q70 bus that's free.

      Hello there! The Q70 is now free. So no need for any ticket 😊. But with other buses, no need to get a paper ticket if you are using NFC.

    • @UrbanCaffeine
      @UrbanCaffeine  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@blackhammer1869 Yes, there are airport signs that will lead you there. The Uber/Lyft app will show you too.

    • @UrbanCaffeine
      @UrbanCaffeine  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@blackhammer1869 I just got back from Newark today. The pick up area (at least in Terminal B), is not labeled "Lyft" or "Uber". They are simply labeled as "Passenger Pick Up 1", "Passenger Pick Up 2", etc. But the app will coordinate at which one you can meet your driver at. From your gate, just follow signs to "Ground Transportation".

      I see people with luggage all the time. Even locals carry around a lot of bags. People don't have cars so it's kinda expected that you are carrying a lot of stuff with you all the time. Check out this video of a guy who took a I-beam on the subway: th-cam.com/video/l2-fLxSE1yw/w-d-xo.html

    How about "LGA to Manhattan"? Or at least, "the city". I never hear a local refer to Manhattan as "New York". Come on, get it together.
