Most of the time when "voice teachers" do masterclasses online they explain poorly, inaccurate or generalize a lot. As a masterclass on singing this is VERY good and well explained. And I totally agree, when you want to get further, find yourself a teacher, IRL or online. And make sure to find a well educated teacher, preferably with a degree and one with a couple of years experience, and one who is familiar with the musical style you are interested in. Remember, a good singer isn't always a good teacher. It might be true in the case of Floor, but it's not true with everyone else. Internet is flooded with "voice teachers" who doesn't really know their trade. Choose carefully. Once again, Floors videos are VERY good, she knows her shit. I’ll never look as smart as you ever!!! This woman is a psychic!!! 🤣🤣🤣 Daughter: Mom... who you are talking to??? 😳
Hmmm... this isn't boring... This is fun! I play the trombone (amateur) and "signed up" to this class because I hope to learn more about breathing support. Now I have been doing FFFF's and Aaaaaah's and it feels strangely at home actually! What if I can gain some confidence to open my mouth and make some noices without a mouthpiece in front of it too?! -We'll see... Anyway, to have the opportunity to learn from you, Floor... That is a pleasure. Thank you!
I've always wanted to sing but my parents couldn't afford it when I was little. Now I've been going to singing lessons for over three months and I am so proud that I could do mostly all of the exercises that you showed in the video 😝. Guys, it's never too late to start doing what you've always wanted. I can even say that it's better when you're older because you have better understanding and consistence because of the desire that has accumulated throughout the years. So get up and START NOW!!! ❤️❤️❤️ Floor
I'm a vocal coach and I'm very happy because I use the same exercises of Floor!!! This is incredible!! I tell to my students the same things with the same recomendation! Thank you Floor for this masterclass videos! 😉
I believe that those breathing techniques are also very helpful for people with panic attacks and people who have a lot of tension in their neck or back. Keep you’re breathing low. Make you’re exhale longer then the inhale. Keep your shoulders low and your back straight, and try to relax your jaw. Very difficult when stressed out and specially during a panic attack but also really helpful. I wish my English was a little bit better so I could really be specific.
20 years ago I broke my sternum which made normal breathing very painful, I was fortunate that I had learned to breath to sing so I could breath more from my diaphram and belly, it still hurt but avoided very shallow breathing which would lead to far worse health issues, watching your masterclass makes far more sense than when I was training 40 plus years ago, thank you
I take singing lessons since january, sing nightwish karaoke all day long and you are my absolute rolemodel. Now you give these singing masterclass and I have to hold back tears because I feel like you are talking directly to me. Thank you so much!!! This is so helpful.
I play both sax and flute and still struggling with singing - the correct technique; these exercises you are teaching Floor are absolutely perfect for singing! You are the first teacher who actually really understands this stuff and can explain it well! THANK YOU, I LOVE YOU FLOOR! Alleluia!

And I love seeing how she is using the time off from touring to share of herself, including the help to those that *can* sing with tips on how to improve. Who wouldn’t want to sing like Floor?
Good evening Floor, thanks for the great tutorial video, I had a fracture of my right upper jaw in an accident ... the exercise, according to you, helped me move it, thanks 👍😊

Ik kijk uit naar de volgende lessen 😊💜
13 years ago i started singing lessons with my lovely teacher. And 13 years ago, I did the same breathing exercises and precisely THESE exercises, exactly in the same way as you did (hands on stomach and on the lower belly, don't stress the jaw, don't move the head up and down, the finger on the upper tooths... all the same. After 13 years, i'm really glad to see these exercises brought to all of us by one of the most talented female singers and I deeply glad to my teacher for all the patience, support and love she gave to me over and over the years. This video remember me how important are these basics, how important is to repeat these on a regular basis, how important is for me singing and also how important is for me my teacher. Seeing you doing these exercises in the same manner i made 13 years ago it was really a big pleasure. Thank you Floor and I hope to see many other videos about your youtube masterclasses. I enjoyed it so much!!!

You're a fantastic teacher, Floor, so it is always a pleasure to watch your videos ❤️ I'm also a teacher and you represent all I want to be for my students: fun, interesting, practical and confident. You sure know how to make people feel comfortable and ready to try new things. You were already my favorite singer, but now you're also my teaching inspiration 🥺❤️ Love You!! ❤️
15:14 Go swim people! As a former university level swimmer, it realy helped me to breath correctly. Today I'm a teacher and now I learning how to take care of my voice. Thanks Floor, following since After Forever Brazilian leg tour in 2005.
Floor, these exercises are very helpful. I’m going to practice them every day. Thank you so much for this masterclass and for sharing such a precious knowledge with us. ❤️
It is so good to have someone you admire teaching you what to do like a regular person. It shows what kind of person you are, even though you are a world class singer. I love singing, I watched tons of tutorials on TH-cam, and I always focus on the breathing. In the beginning of the song. Somewhere in the middle, everything goes away and I just sing with the throat or something, I don't know what I'm doing wrong, but at the end of 2 songs I have no voice. I will try to relax the body next time. I always sing flexing the abs to feel the muscles, maybe that's wrong. Thanks for the tips boss!
I don't really care about singing myself, (not even karaoke) but it is great to learn new things no matter what. And who would be a better teacher! Thank you!
I am not a singer by any means, i'm actually terrible at it, but this is very interesting to watch, I never really gave it much thought about how the body is just like any other instrument and there is a lot of technique that must be used for the instrument to sound good. Very informative.
I'd like to see other vocal coaches making reaction videos to this video or even people trying those exercises, heh. You inspired me to learn multiple singing styles, while still trusting my body... Breath support is the tecnique I struggled with the most, but nowadays I just rely on my body to do the job for me, and it works...! Thanks for the masterclass series, Floor! It's truly interesting.
I snorted wine out my nose when she was explaining which parts don't help support your singing and she said 'hole up your ass - no' :-) Floor, thank you so much for the gift of your knowledge and training. As a yogi, yoga teacher and breathwork geek I am so glad to see you bringing attention to all those other breathing areas of the body apart from the upper lungs. More than one vocal coach reacting to NW vids has noticed that your shoulders don't lift on the inhale. Thanks in part to years of practice long before I kew what I was doing, and my training in yoga as a yoga teaher I pretty much have the breathing part down - I can basically mirror the breathing in songs like Wachen GSL, which I know best - now to work on my *drowning tone-deaf crow* vocals ;-) Hari Om
I don't even sing or want to necessarily, but this is so informative that it cant be ignored. So easy to understand, entertaining and funny, easy to follow. Thanks so much Floor! You are really helpful.
Hallo Floor, so sweet you are doing this for us! You are such a professional, I am just curious, do you still need to train on a regular basis? No breathing exercises I guess, but (combined) muscle training? Btw, you look beautiful and happy! 😘😍 Groetjes🥰
Ohh wow! For me as someone who's never been able to sing, or speak ( I think a lot of the breathing translates to public speaking as well ) those exercises felt very good, I think they could really help me!
This has been awesome! I’m 41 years old and had grown up studying classical voice. But nearly a decade ago I began to develop thyroid cancer that wouldn’t be caught until two years after it began to grow and by that point it had paralyzed part of my vocal cord (I’m sorry I don’t remember the technical terms for the folds that move together that make the sound anyway the right fold had been paralyzed.) By this time I had not been singing in a choir for four years, the longest I’d ever been away from the stage and working with my voice, at the time. After learning that I had been told it would be better if I didn’t do any kind of singing if I ever wanted to have the ability for a while, from that point until a little while after the surgery, if I ever wanted to sing again. Come to find out the reason for the paralyzation was because the cancer had wrapped completely around the nerve that made that side of my vocal fold move. They were survived I was still able to sing as well as I did and put it down to the years of training. My main problem at that time was constantly having to clear my throat. So if anyone is reading this and you are a healthy singer (as in you use proper techniques to support your voice so you don’t cause your voice to strain on a regular basis) and start to experience having to clear your throat, or cough, or swallow to soothe your throat as it suddenly becomes itchy or tickles when you sing. Go see a doctor. Thyroid cancer doesn’t follow trends in age, sex or any of those common thoughts about cancer. It can happen just as easily to a teenager as it can to a first time mother as it can to a struggling artist right out of college, to the soldiers servicing on the frontlines, to our grandparents. So it’s important to not think it can’t happen to you if you feel something’s wrong with how your voice is acting. Trust me you do not want to be in the shoes I’m in now. I’m here watching this because, even though I had the best surgeon in The Mayo Clinic for the type of case of thyroid cancer I had, it was still wrapped around and squeezing the nerve that controlled part of my vocal fold. Afterwards, when they explained was causing the paralysis and how extensive the restrictions was, the doctors warned me straight away that I might never get the control needed to sing professionally again, but they did assure me that there was no danger of not regaining the full use of my speaking voice. That surgery was 8 years ago and I have just this year regained half the vocal range and control I once had. But what I found so useful in this video was that it showed me a lot of what I was skipping over because I was “past” it in my head. But when I worked with the video I realized that there was I lot of the basics I was really ignoring because I just wanted to get back to where I was that I am ignoring literally decades of vocal training. So thank you, Floor, for reminding me that I should not try to run before I can crawl.
Dear Floor, thank you very much for this! I am not a singer and I never aspired to be one. But this, like the reaction videos of a select few other singers/vocal coaches has helped/is helping me to appreciate what you and other singers do on an entirely different level and even more so than before. Please keep doing what you are doing, it is most highly appreciated!
I think that is the most that my abdominal muscles have been engaged since lockdowns started eight months ago. 😂 And you’re definitely right about feeling slightly dizzy! Oxygen! Woah! 🥴 Just like in dance, or any art form for that matter, you’ll always have these core exercises you’ll go back to - to refocus, or just automatically - that are the foundation building blocks of everything you do. Thank you for sharing your knowledge on an area that is fairly alien to me! 🙏🏻
I've been singing for many years, practicing a lot in classical style and also in order to let rip and powerhouse! But it's so good to come back to the basics sometimes and I think it's so important, even for well established singers, to come back to basics at times, even when they don't think they need to. It is so grounding and good for the body.
I love the Dutchie accent, Floor and Sharon Den Adel speak better English, than some of us English !!. How can such a sweet lady, be such a stellar metal goddess. Love you Floor x
Playing trombone in a wind ensemble, we practiced breathing technique with the assistance of a metronome. In for four, out for four, in for five, out for five, and so on. The goal being to use ALL of the air you take in within those beats. It teaches using the muscles in the abdomen without really having to focus on it. It'll happen naturally. Low brass has to often hold long sustained notes, and doing that exercise will teach you to keep the flow of air even, strong, and supported.
Wow I liked this class, you learn not only about breathing techniques but also how the body works when breathing and different body muscles, I can see how much you love teaching, you're a nerd by the way 😁 This master class is worthy to watch and learn. Waiting for the next one. Thanks you so much for sharing your knowledge.

Hey Floor, mocht je ooit stoppen met zingen (ik hoop nooit) kun je nog altijd een carrière als presentatrice beginnen. Echt super professioneel zoals je dit doet. Keep up the good work!
It's very an interesting Master Class and video thank you so much for your help and share all you know with us😄🙏❤
Glad you enjoyed it!
@@FloorJansenOfficial Yes of course always thank you😄🙏
Floor: Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa
My baby: AAAAAAAAAAAA
Learning from the master already!
We have the most beautiful, talented and funny teacher of the planet!!! Thanks Floor!!! 😂🤘❤️
wow .... super informative and easy to understand!!!!!! i especially like the fact you pointed out the muscles and the amount of the air needed in high and low notes are different! that really makes everything sense and connected! thank you so much! :D
Glad it was helpful!
The Nightwish Army getting singing Master Classes by Floor Jansen! Oh man, the concerts are gonna be way more epic!
I'm only a shower singer but with this I'm gonna be a hell of a shower singer.
No but seriously, I know I don't have talent but I think I'm not that bad and I've been considering taking classes to at least feel confident with myself, and having such a legend like Floor giving some tips is getting me motivated. Thanks a lot Floor.
The last time I sang was almost 30 years ago in the school choir. With these wonderful classes you have inspired me to start singing again. Thank you for your time and your generosity. Much love from 🇿🇦South Africa 💕🇿🇦
Pilates forced me to breath towards my back and less with the diaphragm and it has worked much better for me. By the end of this video I was feeling very relaxed. Thanks.
I'm not a singer but I'm pretty sure practicing this exercises help to keep a better lungs health and a better muscle support to help my back pains. And if I'm wrong...it was super fun and interesting to watch hahaha Thanks a lot Floor! Greetings from Argentina 🇦🇷
Me: “OMG... what would Floor think if she saw all of us trying to do the exercises while looking at the video and a mirror? 🤔
Floor: “You’ll look just as smart as I did in front of the camera!”
Me: No Floor! I’ll never look as smart as you ever!!! This woman is a psychic!!! 🤣🤣🤣
Daughter: Mom... who you are talking to??? 😳
Hmmm... this isn't boring...
I'll never be a singer. But it's amazing to watch such kindness from someone!
I play both sax and flute and still struggling with singing - the correct technique; these exercises you are teaching Floor are absolutely perfect for singing! You are the first teacher who actually really understands this stuff and can explain it well! THANK YOU, I LOVE YOU FLOOR! Alleluia!
A vocal lesson from metal-goddess? I should watch this. Devin, Bjorn Speed and Floor - my favorite metal vocalists. Great teacher, beautiful woman, killer singer.
I don’t sing; can’t sing. But I watched this whole video. I so admire Floor. Her good and positive spirit shines in everything I see her do. And I love seeing how she is using the time off from touring to share of herself, including the help to those that *can* sing with tips on how to improve. Who wouldn’t want to sing like Floor?
The fact that I'm learning stuff about singing from Floor Jansen herself is the strangest thing I've experienced this year.
Good evening Floor, thanks for the great tutorial video, I had a fracture of my right upper jaw in an accident ... the exercise, according to you, helped me move it, thanks 👍😊
Always a pleasure Floor! Thanks for sharing your wisdom🤘🏻
My pleasure!
Thank you for not flooding this with commercials ❤
Wow !!! I am very impressed with the quality of your teaching. Anyone wishing to learn the basics and singing techniques will be happy. I'm a guitarist and I don't sing, but if I wanted to learn to sing, I would choose you as my teacher. You give off superb positive energy. Thank you for what you do for the community !!! You're a beautiful person 💖
Floor: Have you been training?
Me: Si (Voice over: No :P )
🤣
😅🤣
🤣😅
Hahaha
You answered her in spanish, cool!
Thank you Floor, being a healthcare worker in these times is very hard, but I just wanted to share my appreciation for you and honestly, Nightwish and your voice as been therapeutic for me. Thank you for everything.
Thank you so much for this Floor! I've been taking lessons for a year and tensing the jaw/breathing have always been a problem. Last week I tried your tips in class and my teacher noticed the change! 😍
The legend teaching us her techniques ... It's time to learn with the best one :)
What a woman!
Thank you Floor!
Floooor I was doing that Fffff in the mirror and my reflection started laughing... I think I'm doing it wrong
😂😂😂😂
You better call a priest that mirror's prolly possessed 😄
🤣🤣🤣
ffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffff*ck

I started karaoke singing three years ago, just for fun, feeling myself improving by time but I never knew what exactly I am doing better. Now, after watching these previous videos, I understand better and hope to improve more. I even started thinking about finding a teacher ( although I'm 45..) because I really really love singing! These videos are a previous gift. THANK YOU, Floor❤️
OMG! ❤️Before this Master clases I'd see all the fans singing as an amazing chorus at the next concerts🤯 😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍
Thank you for this. It's hard to imagine, that I can wake up in the morning and be in a top level class with a world-class vocalist, for free.
I harmonized with you on the aahs. We sounded great. Life is good.
Such beauty inside out, such class, such everything... Floor you are the brightest star...
I enjoyed it so much!!!
there is no magic Floor. You are absolutely right in the world. It takes time and practice. Thank you for giving us your knowledge. we look forward to class 3 🤗🤗 👋👋👋
I can't sing to save my life, but this was incredibly interesting!
You're a fantastic teacher, Floor, so it is always a pleasure to watch your videos ❤️
I'm also a teacher and you represent all I want to be for my students: fun, interesting, practical and confident. You sure know how to make people feel comfortable and ready to try new things.
You were already my favorite singer, but now you're also my teaching inspiration 🥺❤️
Love You!! ❤️

Go swim people!
Wonderful!
Thanks for the tips boss!
who else was watching just hoping to hear some singing?😉
I don´t sing and I don´t want to sing but I will watch all of these videos because you are the best singer in the world.
Floor: Ffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffff
Me in the bedroom: ffffffffffffffffffffff
The wife comes in: what the hell are you doing?????
My last vocal lesson was when I was 18. Loving the masterclasses as a good refresher. It’s been a long time since I was 18.
You are really helpful.
incredible opportunity to learn these breathing exercises, with a vocalist that I admire a lot❤️🙏
Hallo Floor, so sweet you are doing this for us! You are such a professional, I am just curious, do you still need to train on a regular basis? No breathing exercises I guess, but (combined) muscle training? Btw, you look beautiful and happy! 😘😍 Groetjes🥰
Regular training definitely helps a lot! But do not overwork yourself
Ohh wow! For me as someone who's never been able to sing, or speak ( I think a lot of the breathing translates to public speaking as well ) those exercises felt very good, I think they could really help me!
Vocal class from the queen herself? :O Thank you, Floor!
Thank you so much for this, I needed it. Have a good day! 💕
You too!!
i was never into singing myself, i know im not good, but im here to listen how our queen is doing it
God! You are so humble despite being one of the best singers in the world! I love you!
If i still can't sing after this, its because i was distracted by Floor's magnificent arms 💪😍🎶
Oxygen! Woah! 🥴
Just like in dance, or any art form for that matter, you’ll always have these core exercises you’ll go back to - to refocus, or just automatically - that are the foundation building blocks of everything you do.
Thank you for sharing your knowledge on an area that is fairly alien to me! 🙏🏻
I miss these videos! Your warmup has been super helpful for me, thank you so much for sharing your knowledge with us ❤
I've been singing for many years, practicing a lot in classical style and also in order to let rip and powerhouse!
Floor Jansen you are from another world you are amazing 👏
Hey Floor, I watched this, Masterclass II and then I went back to your video of "Alone" and looked for the things you have mentioned in this class. It is great to be able to go to your other videos and notice what you are teaching us. Thank you. You really "play" your instrument well, quite the powerhouse, and controlled too. Amazing ☺️.
having watched every interview ever and now these Masterclass I understand the THOUSANDS of hours of studying and practicing that are behind your amazing singing but...
I still prefere my version: you being a Valkyrie! 😍
I would love to learn what is your vocal warm up for a gig and your vocal warm up to record on a studio. you are amazing!
While I'm not a vocalist, I do play a brass instrument. I found some good advise about breathing in your lesson that I can apply to my playing.
I'll be honest with you, im not a singer. I just am fascinated to hear from a true master how to learn to sing at that level. Floor ... you are a natural teacher. Any student would be blessed to have your guidance. Never seen you live, but definitely on my wish list.
