- It's been a little while but it doesn't mean we are stopping the MasterClasses. 😉 We've talked about breathing techniques, jaw position, warming up and this time we are going to cover different singing techniques. In particular today we will look at belting, curbing & overdrive. We will link this to my latest cover of Ave Maria!

It just takes some practice. I already improved from a dying animal to dropping a hammer on my toes. You'll get there too, don't worry.

Woo hoo! I saw Cathrine Sadolin speak in Vancouver, Canada, in 2005 at the International Conference of Voice Teachers. I loved her lecture and I've been using her Complete Vocal Technique Book ever since!

Can you talk about your growling technique? I'm really interested to know how you growl.
That is a difficult technique, there are probably going to be *way* more classes before that.
Her particular growl is a false chord growl, if you wanted to look up how to do that.
What @overmaster and @nroke1 said. I recommend watching false chord steps by Aliki Katriou, but you need some basic understanding of singing.
You don't need air; whilst she is using the highest note i cannot even shout and during that i almost breathed like 4 times!!! You're a TRUE ANGEL! PROFESSIONAL.
There is no hope for my singing, but I really enjoy to hear how it should be done 😁

@@FloorJansenOfficial thanks for taking the time to reply! Also, I have one question: in your fan Friday episodes you answer our questions but you never read them out loud. I guess you just show them on the screen, but I am 100% blind since my birth so it is hard to understand what your answer is referring to, especially if you just answer with yes or no. Could you read out the questions or list them in the video description in your next episode? That would be awesome, thank you!

That is sooo amazing! Ive been studying (and loving) CVT since 2004 and is amazing how beautiful the vocal modes sound on her voice. truly astonishing!
Nearly started crying at those Ave Maria examples. Incredibly beautiful! Besides that, I want to find me a band to sing in; I alreadyhave vocal lessons but theses master classes are incredibly helpful too. Plus, I watch videos from channels which provide either music theory or singing practice or both. Love singing so much!

Thank you Floor! Understanding how the different techniques are done is a lot better than just trying to replicate something without any warning of what could be a danger to the vocal cords. For my brain that loves knowing how everything works instead of just “feeling it” I really found this useful. I’ve been doing a lot of things wrong but now I’ll try to apply your tips 😉

I am a somewhat classical trained (have had a handful of lessons)/self-taught singer. I have always struggled with utilizing a pop tone but through your masterclasses, I have found that my range has opened up even more. Thank you!
I loved this lesson!! I have to say I am a GREAT singer in the car with the windows rolled up and the music LOUD..LOL...I so wish my dad would have gave me lessons when I was younger, oh well, I can live vicarious through you!!! This is so wholesome...I am a self taught singer and people always ask how is that possible ...when I was 15 yrs old, I saw a TH-cam video of After forever performing live and I fell in love with your tone ...ever since that day I would watch every single singing video you were in and just emulated whatever you did ...you’re such a great vocalist that just imitating you made me a better singer

My suggestion, I imagine it's not your area of expertise, but could you teach us a little about distortion? How to put that raspiness in the voice without messing up your vocal chords. And thank you so much for what you're doing!

Today was my birthday and I showed my mum your version of Phantom of the opera with Hank, and she was so moved by your voice that she cried. I thought i did something wrong but she was in tears of joy. You and Hank touched her in a special way and i am very thankfull for both of you, thanks to you I had such a special moment with my mum and i never forget that day.

Thank You for this examples - i´m still a beginner at singing (started at the age of 45) and it´s a really hard work to learn, it´s a challenge to come out of comfort-zone, a never ending process of learning and i like it sooo much 🙂 (and forgive me for my bad english 😀)

What could be better than to learn making music with your own voice? It's a beautiful instrument to have. When you learn more you can then choose how to use your own voice and the selection of songs you can sing could expand a lot. You can end up learning to sing your favorite song, which you thought would be impossible.
There might be a certain song with some absolutely fantastic lyrics you'd love to sing. Maybe you create those lyrics yourself... When you sing those words out loud it all becomes much more powerful. Keep watching these videos and you will get there. Take care and have a wonderful day.
