- I built a cheap Mercedes 190E Evo 2 Replica and it was time to drive over 1400 miles to Seattle for WekFest to join with hundreds of other modified cars. Let see if my Mercedes can make it… Part 2

I feel like u guys focused of the esthetic part of the build and not the mechanical cause i would not road-trip that thing more than 2 hours
let alone build a rollbar without an engine that can make it roll
Or at least the basics...spark plugs..battery..fluids...coils
He said they did all the preventative maintenance earlier on. But German cars like this are terrible on wiring.
That’s what I’ve been thinking. He rushed the build to get it to a car show instead of taking time to make it flush

What a pitty, so many beautiful cars at the show. Your (/the only) Mercedes would have fitted perfectly in
I suspect:
Overcurrent fuse, behind the battery. It will kill most circuts in the car and is easely overlooked because the rest of the fuses is in the other side of the enginebay.
Else:
Alternator brushes. The brushes can easely be replaced. But if the battery is charched, thats not the problem.
Worst would be the ECU thats fried.
Its sad because these cars rarely brake down IF the previous owners have treated it well. And thats a big IF.
I own 2 190E's, from 88 and a 500SEC, from 83 and through the last 8 years years I have learned a lot about the 80's Benz's wich i love more than any other cars! ❤
Further more watch out if you are towing it!
The automatic gearbox is oil cooled but only when the input-shaft is turning.
If you just use a tow hook and drag it along, your gearbox will overheat and die eventually.
Did you measure the voltage on the battery or try jumpercables? A very common issue is worn brushes on the alternator. You will experience a lot of the issues you describe which will gradually get worse as the voltage is lowered, and the car will eventually stop. I love your build. I was looking for the extremely rare wheels you got for a long while! I have had 12 190E's, but now only one, an original 2.3-16 with an EVO II kit and 440.000 km on the odo!
Another one is the fuse box too. Those inline ceramic fuse holders definitely fail occasionally and can cause all kinds of problems electrically but a bad ground is most likely the issue especially if your battery isn't charging
@@lapatron2902common for the gearbox strap to turn green and stop voltage going across it, but alternator brushes too as I’ve had them were out at 130k and this has what 144k I think I see ?
@magnacars Check for a alarm unit under the passenger footwell carpet and plastic. Theres been several kinds of old alarms that can give wiring/starting troubles like this
hang in there. I just got a 190E 2.3-16 and been riddled with issues. going through much of the same. it'll be worth it in the end :)
Did you ever think that the bolt you found on the road could be an Earth point Bolt…Just saying….Also get rid of the Mechanical Fan and put an electric One ..Works miracles on my 190e

Speaking from experience electrical gremlins suck to have and diagnose, but I am sure you and the others will be able to sort it out! Be as patient as you can with the electial diag process, you will learn lots! It will help you feel more confortable when it comes to making/running harnesses when you do an engine swap and familiarity with the chassis as a whole. Congrats on 400K, this car has come a long way since I found your channel in Feburary. I look forward to more

I recently bought a 190 with a M111 2.2 engine as a project car. Wasn’t a bad of a rust bucket as yours, but I preemptive maintenance on all key areas: engine, tranny, suspension overhaul before paint & bodywork which took 3 months. Now runs great and looks great (thankfully). Definitely think you should have focused on the engine first and suspension first. Then body work. Either way, hope your 190 gets sorted out. Got a 91 2.3 these cars are strange to say the least I’m facing a fuel issue that is next level stupid after home much I’ve put into it if it’s not one thing it’s another. Check the shitty fuses had a trunk light fuse go off and boom car was dead a handful of times till I went found it

My Favourite modified on cars is Roll cage and engine swap or engine build it into racing engine.
This was always going to happen, why did you not have a plan in place already...

Honestly it was pretty obvious from the start, bought a really crappy 190e and then dumped all of the money into the body and barely anything into the health of the car, not a huge surprise there, way too rushed

Ive watched this series from the start and I think you shouldve done a bit more drivetrain check and service before such long trip.
On the other hand Ive done similar thing with my 190e just after I bought it doin a 3k trip to italy, tho I was lucky my car showed its faults like 2 days after that trip. Spent 3 months with my friend researching and taking care of those gremlins afterwards.
In the end I hope you yourself dig a little bit deeper into the mechanical stuff of the car. It might make you love the car and appreciate it a lot more. I know it has for me.
