this brings back good memories, just watching Jesse.. when i was young i used to stay at my dads, and my dad used to build hot rods and bikes for living. i just have good memories of sitting on a Friday night, getting takeaways, then watching Jesse James during the night! early 2000s, i was 13 or so. my dad has passed away for just over two years ago now. so this was super cool for me to see this. i hope more gets uploaded on youtube

I’m 73, I remember as a kid maybe 12 working in my dads shop bucking rivets on the inside of truck bodies, worked the entire summer to buy my first motorcycle , 56 zundapp. Thanks I really enjoy watching your work

It’s nice to watch a master craftsmen work. Slow is smooth, smooth is fast.
He's not wrong when it comes to riveting with a buck bar. Super satisfying doing it right, with perfect rivet heads and backs.
I learned all these skills from an old aircraft sheetmetal worker, and use them to fabricate old racecar parts and cool furniture. I love the look of riveted fabrication, a forgotten art.
I have always thoroughly enjoyed watching Jesse James do what he does with metals and fabrication. His passion for what he does is becoming more of a lost art every year.
I am actually teaching my kids how to weld and do woodworking because I think they are skills that come into play at some point in life and 98% of people don't have the slightest clue as to what or how to accomplish some of those skills when needed.
I love watching him work. He is doing what he loves and getting paid. He has it figured out. So glad I found this.

USAF taught me to shoot rivets and fabricate sheet metal.
I would love to be doing that again instead of delivering food.
Me and another Sgt. made lots of travel pods for F-16s. Making floors, doors, backing plates that had to be machine roles to fit inside empty napalm pods. Rivets all through the night. It is a blessing to be able to work with your hands.
Watching you work with metal is always a joy.
My oldest son loved watching Monster Garage with me years ago. He now works in a fabrication shop for Viking manufacturing in Phoenix.

jesse its great to see you teaching , our young people need to carry our metal working skills into the generations to come, or your right it will be lost. building a bike or anything one of a kind gives us the satisfaction of hand made. keep up the good work and share the gifts you have. take care and hope everything is well for you.
There are so many cool old tools and tricks that should be preserved in an archive and museum. It needs to be done before the old timers are all gone. And done by someone who has an appreciation.

Sounds Karen af, but you gotta deburr that. Saw the burs falling as he shot and bucked the rivets. Not for an airplane im sure, but it's the right way. No f.o.d. still looked cool as shit and I'm glad he's even showing people how it's done.

As a guy who does riveting on fighter jets everyday as a job, i can also say its a skill that is being lost. As companys role in machines that do what hands use to do, the skill is being lost. But its an awesome skill, as it can be used from aerospace, to automotive, even i the tech industry, to just making art.
I've always wanted to build a rat rod and make the body and internals in that riveted style. I don't have a garage so I had to put it on hold but that's one of those things that's on my bucket list.
BG, as a guy who does riveting on fighter jets everyday as a job are you saying you are current military and you repair/patch panels. Or do you build jets for an aerospace contractor?
@@Dixler683 i work for aerospace contractor. Bucking rivets is something that i do alot of, and in alot of hard to reach areas. Its a skill that not everyone can learn.

Been a fan for as long as I can remember, genius fabricator Jesse James is. Hands on, can't stress enough by hand, By Hand, by hand. Whether it's English wheels or whatever the hell he's working on, found out not too long ago I'm actually related to the dude. Pretty damn cool. I'm actually descendant of the Great Jesse James as well.

I learned this and other trade techniques in high school. Welding, running a lathe, casting. I guess they don't teach much shop anymore. It's a shame

So funny. Like hand riveting is unheard of? Welcome to the world of aircraft fabrication and assembly! I can speed rivet hundreds of 3/16 diameter rivets in minutes, and all bucktails perfect. Watch a good Boeing speed-riveter go at it! I kinda cracked up at this.

I've been watching Jesse James sence I was a teenager. I admire him for the no bullshit attitude. I also like how he builds bikes and cars you can use as well as look like a work of art. Not like those 150k OCC piles that use the head light bulb for a fuse and have a half pint gass tank.
Jesse James. The mike Tyson of fabrication Iron Jesse is what I’ve always referred him to.
Hopefully he's clearing the chips from between the parts mating surfaces. They Can cause bulges and gaps. Alot of times the clecos won't provide enough clamping force to prevent chips getting between parts.

Pretty cool. Instead of using tape on the drill bit they make tools for it. The are called drill stops. Can get them at the yard store.

What mathematical formula do you use for the spacing of the rivets?
I feel so far behind just started learning to do lead work at the shop I work at.
Rivets by Hand, is done without powertools ;-)
